When you are about to go to a boarding school in England, there are many different questions that may
come to mind. But once you take some time on them, you will certainly feel easy. Here is a normal boarding
day.
Early
Morning
Usually boarders get up around 7: 00 am and have around an hour to take a
shower and put on their uniform before breakfast.
Lessons
Classes start at 9: 00 am and every lesson lasts for 50 minutes. After two lessons,
you’ll have a short break at 10: 40 am. The next period of classes will include two
more lessons.
Lunch
Lunch is usually held around 12: 30 pm at the dining hall, where you’ll join your
friends to enjoy a hot dish. After an hour of lunch, you’ll have three or four more
lessons to attend.
Dinner
At 5: 00 pm you will have finished your school lessons for the day. Most
boarding schools in the UK offer their full boarders different kinds of hot meals
to choose from.
Activities
All boarding schools in the UK provide many different kinds of activities for their
boarders, such as football, swimming, golf or art.
Prep
An important part of boarding school life is the supervised homework session
known as “prep”. Although prep might sound stressful, it’s a great way for you to
keep up with your studies.
Free time Once you are done with your classes and activities, it’s time to relax.
Bedtime In most boarding schools, the lights go out around 10: 30 pm.
Being nervous before you go to a boarding school is completely normal and understandable. Hopefully,
being aware of the usual routine you’ll be following can help you. Once you are there, you will see how
exciting life in a boarding school in England can be.

When I was a teenager, I wrote postcards to show my friends the new places I had explored every time
my family took a vacation. I considered postcards as simply a way to share travels until I came across my
grandmother’s postcard album (专辑).
It was a dark gray leather album, where most of the postcards had pictures that did not reflect a holiday
or a travel destination. Instead, the notes were mostly invitations to a dinner party or, a walk the next day.
“Why do these postcards ask you to come to tea?” I asked my grandmother. “Because this is how we
communicated before we had a telephone,” she said. “I would post a postcard in the morning mail, and a
friend would receive it that afternoon. Then she would post a reply that arrived in my mail the next
morning.”
I was surprised. Life without a phone sounded like something out of the world. Connecting by postcard
seemed as unexpected as using a pigeon (鸽子). I had forgotten about my grandmother’s postcards until
lockdowns (封锁) limited our trips to seeing our three granddaughters. Remembering my grandmother’s
album, I bought several sets of cards and every few weeks, I’d write notes and mail them.
Then one day I opened my mailbox and saw three hand-addressed envelopes. They were from my
granddaughters, each thanking me for the postcards. The notes expressed their disappointment with the
pandemic(流行病)and described how my messages had comforted them.
I had been thinking how my grandmother had accepted the telephone as a new way to keep
relationships. Like her, I accepted the girls’ preferred way of communication and texted my thanks for their
letters. However, even as the lock-downs end, I will continue to send them postcards because everyone
enjoys receiving a real letter.
24. Why did the author’s grandmother write postcards?
A. To share her travel experiences. B. To show love and care.
C. To keep in touch with people. D. To kill the time.
25. What did the author think of life without a phone?
A. It was unbelievable. B. It was peaceful.
C. It was just as usual. D. It was attractive.
26. How did the author feel when receiving her granddaughters’ letters?
A. Disappointed. B. Delighted.
C. Regretful. D. Embarrassed.
27. Which one should be the title for the text?
A. An Old Postcard Album B. NewWays of Communication
C. Love during Lockdowns D. Attraction of Postcards
C
As people’s understanding of climate change increases, so does their wish to act. However, the size of the
problems — such as wildfires, melting ice, and long periods without rain — can feel too great to solve. It’s
difficult to see how our daily habits connect to protecting animals like polar bears, let alone how we can make a
difference.
4
A key way to measure the effects of our actions is through a carbon footprint. Although this idea is
becoming more popular (searching “How to reduce my carbon footprint? ” gives 27 million results), many still
don't fully grasp it. A carbon footprint refers to the total harm caused by producing goods or activities. For
people in wealthy nations, most emissions come from four main areas: home energy use, transportation, food
choices, and other purchases (购买) like clothes or electronics.
Each choice adds to your footprint. For instance, eating beef increases your food footprint more than being
vegetarian. However, someone who drives a fuel-heavy car daily might have a larger footprint than a
meat-eater who walks.
Calculating this is complex. Take flights: it’s simple to divide fuel use by passengers, but first-class seats
take up more space, increasing emissions. Other factors like cargo weight or flight altitude also matter. Other
calculations are even harder. Making a car involves mining materials, powering factories, transporting parts,
and using machinery — all linked to the car’s raw materials.
Because of this complexity, Berners-Lee calls carbon footprints “impossible to calculate exactly”, yet he
argues that rough estimates are enough for most people to take action. To lower your footprint, focus on what
matters most for your lifestyle. For example, switching to an electric car is better for the environment in
Vermont (where they use clean energy from water) than in West Virginia (where coal is the main energy source).
As Berners-Lee explains, “Flying might be a small part of someone’s carbon footprint, but for others, it’s the
biggest part. Prioritize the largest impact areas. ”
28. What can we infer from the first paragraph?
A.People paid little attention to climate change.
B. Polar bears are affected by wildfires and melting ice.
C.There is a gap between problems and individual actions.
D. Different countries’ environmental problems are different.
29. According to the text, what does a “carbon footprint” measure?
A. The total cost of producing goods like cars or clothes.
B. The carbon emissions coming from wealthy countries.
C. The things people use, eat and purchase in their everyday life.
D. The amount of greenhouse gases released by human activities.
30. What makes calculating a car’s carbon footprint particularly difficult?
A. The color and size of the car. B. The need to track raw materials.
C. The preference for electric cars. D. The cost of gas in different countries.
31. What advice does Beriers-Lee give about reducing personal carbon footprints?
A. Reduce the largest sources of emissions first. B. Switch to using an electric car in West Virginia.
C. Move to countries powered by renewable energy. D. Focus on small daily changes like turning off lights.
D
Imagine a school where students are taught by the best teachers in every subject, regardless of location.
Imagine a school where students could go on safe field trips to the Amazon rainforest or Everest base camp.
Well, such schools are already being built: in virtual(虚拟的)reality.
Last year, Optima Academy Online, an all-virtual school, delivered courses that aim to improve the hearts
and train the minds of young people. These courses are of different levels, attracting 170 full-time students
from all over Florida. In the progress of home-schooling, students use headsets for about three hours a day for
formal lessons and then do course work independently with digital check-ins.
Future versions(版本 )of VR will doubtless be widely used in education, but the only questions are: for
what purpose and at what speed? There are enough reasons to doubt whether VR schools represent the future of
education. Sticking a child in their bedroom with a heavy VR headset fastened to their face and no physical
social interaction with other kids will fill many of them and their parents with horror.
A recent report concluded that digital education could significantly improve the quality and equality of
schooling systems. But if managed poorly, it could have the opposite effect, turning a digital divide into an
educational one. There is growing evidence to suggest that is happening. In Mexico, only 24 percent of
15-year-old students in poor schools have access(使用)to a home computer for schoolwork compared with 87
percent in rich ones.
Used properly, technology can be great for enabling self-motivated students to access learning resources
and connect with fellow students and teachers all over the world, says Beeban Kidron, a member of the UK’s
Digital Futures Commission. The trouble is that Edtech is too often seen as a shiny new toy that will solve all
problems and save money rather than being viewed as a different way to learn, she adds.
32.What can we learn about Optima Academy Online?
5
A.It has been widely accepted.
B.It holds faraway outdoor field trips.
C.It provides various online courses.
D.It requires parents to help with check-ins.
33.What does paragraph 3 focus on about VR in education?
A.The development. B.The concerns.
C.The advantages. D.The popularity.
34.Students in Mexico are mentioned to show________.
A.Mexican schooling quality has been improved
B.local schooling systems are not fully developed
C.technology access gaps may cause education inequality
D.family backgrounds shape people’s views on education
35.What does Beeban Kidron think of digital education?
A.It enriches learning. B.It’s irreplaceable.
C.It needs improving. D.It’s undervalued.

第二节(满分 25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Jane was still sleeping when the phone rang in the living room. She opened her sleepy eyes and looked at
the clock on the table. It was already nine o’clock! Although Jane was still very sleepy, she knew she had to get
up because her mother was working in her office and she couldn’t expect her younger brother Tom, who was
sleeping like a pig, to answer the Phone. She quickly put on a coat and ran to the living room. When she picked
up the receiver, on the other end came the warm greeting, “Good morning!”
It was from her father, who was a seaman and rarely came back. Suddenly, Jane’s sleepiness disappeared.
Born in a not-so-rich family, Jane and Tom felt the stress of life, but they were happy to enjoy the family
atmosphere. At school, they were straight-A students and took part in various after-school activities. They were
the pride of the family.
“Good morning, Dad. Why do you call us so early on the weekend?” Jane said and pretended to be
annoyed. “Tom and I have been very nice recently.” “My dear, today is your mother’s birthday, and I have
ordered a cake online and it will be sent to our home late in the afternoon. Do remember to take the cake. It is
my surprise for your mother.”
Hearing her father’s words, Jane felt a little ashamed. How could she forget her mother’s birthday?!
While she was chatting with her father, Jane looked around the room and saw a lot of dirty clothes on the
sofa. The floor hadn’t been cleaned for a few days since her mother had to work all this week.
She looked at the clock again and was sure that she still had enough time to prepare a surprise for her
mother.
“Well, Dad, now I’m going to wake Tom up. We will give Mum a surprise, too!” Jane said and hung up
the telephone.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Jane hurried to Tom’s room and shared her plan with him.
