Choose the best answer (根据短文内容,选择最恰当的答案)
All through grade school I got extra help with school work. If I got a D, I was very happy. If I got a C-minus (C-), I had achieved greatness. A’s and B’s were a kingdom I could never enter.
Once my teacher Miss Mills had given me a list of ten spelling words. My mother and I went over the list until I knew those words. I felt great. I thought. “Wow! This time, I’m going to pass.” The next day, I went into the classroom and began to write down the words. The first word was “carpet”. I wrote that one down c-a-r-p-e-t. I was feeling pretty confident. Then came the word “neighbor”—I wrote down the letter “n”. Then rhythm—I knew there was an “r”. Suburban——I wrote “s-u-b”. My confidence failed me. I had gone from 100 percent to maybe a D-minus. Where did the words go?
Some people talk about information sliding off your brain. That was my life. I was an underachiever.
Now I know I have dyslexia (诵读困难症). A person with dyslexia might see “the” as “teh” and “bird” as “brid”. My brain learns differently. A learning disability can really change the way you feel about yourself. Now I know that even if I learn differently. I can still be filled with greatness.
Today when I visit schools as an actor, director, and co-author of children’s books, I tell children that everyone has something special inside. It’s our job to find out what that is and get it out, and give it to the world as a gift.
35. The writer’s problem in grade school is that ________.
A. he had trouble in spelling B. he often got C-minuses
C. he was absent-minded D. he had a physical disability
36. From Paragraph 2, we can know that the writer ________.
A. wrote down 20% words correctly B. knew he had dyslexia then
C. felt upset about himself at last D. studied hard and passed the test
37. The underlined phrase “sliding off” (in Para.3) most probably means “________”.
A. coming into B. going through C. moving around D. disappearing from
38. After the writer knew he had dyslexia, he ________.
A. felt very excited B. had more difficulties in study
C. was filled with sadness D. changed his view of himself
39. The best title for the passage is most probably “________”.
A. A Change for Sure B. A Great Underachiever
C. A Gift from the World D. A Special Spelling Bee
Choose the best answer and complete the passage (选择最恰当的选项完成短文)
In high school and college, you may be encouraged to travel or study abroad. Perhaps you are too busy with your schoolwork to ____40____ consider these chances. I encourage traveling at a young age. The earlier you travel widely, the more you can learn.
As young people, most of us live with mom and dad. Our community knows us well, too. The idea of ____41____this comfort zone can be scary.
However, one learns the most in strange situations. In our daily life, we know well how to act and respond to people. But how about being in a new place, with strangers who hold different values? It can be uncomfortable at first. But once you work out that, you can connect with people in spite of differences, you become ____42____ and more confident. You should learn to face this discomfort. It will help you to grow.
By traveling wide and far, you will also develop cultural sensitivity (文化敏感性). Being culturally sensitive is very important. And it is not enough to just know “People from that country are like this.”
When I was in Spain, ____43____, I found the people there took a two-hour break in the middle of their workday. Many foreigners consider the Spanish people ____44____. Few of them know people there place great value on family time. To the Spanish people, eating together as a family is more important than anything else. Cultural sensitivity will help you with your ____45____ on both business and daily personal affairs.
Finally, I’d like to mention that travelling abroad will be a wonderful way to learn a new language. Being in a new language learning environment, you will have to use the language. In this way, you will make your language skills better.
40. A. seriously B. briefly C. politely D. suddenly
41. A. taking charge of B. preparing for C. pointing out D. getting out of
42. A. smarter B. healthier C. richer D. luckier
43. A. in a word B. of course C. for example D. at last
44. A. fair B. lazy C. honest D. pure
45. A. attraction B. experience C. influence D. communication
Ten years ago, I set out to study luck. I wanted to know why some people are always in the right place at the right time, while o____46____ always experience ill luck.
Many people volunteered for my research. Over the years I interviewed them, watched their lives and had them take part in my experiments.
I carried out a simple experiment to discover why there were d____47____ in their ability to catch chances. I gave both lucky and unlucky people a newspaper and asked them to look through it and tell me how many photographs were i____48____.
I had secretly placed a large message halfway through the newspaper saying, “Tell the researcher you have seen this and win$50.”
This message took up h____49____ of the page and was more than two inches high. It was staring at everyone straight in the face, but unlucky people tended to miss it and lucky people tended to catch it.
Unlucky people are just more nervous than lucky people. They are busy looking only for what they need and this s____50____ them from noticing the unexpected. So they miss out on chances.
Lucky people tend to be more r____51____ and open. They can see everything that is in front of them, rather than just what they are looking for.
My research shows that lucky people live by several rules. Here are some of these rules:
*Be open to new experiences and b____52____ your old thought patterns (模式).
*Listen to your gut instincts (直觉)—they are often right.
*See yourself being lucky before an important meeting or phone call.
*Spend a few moments each day remember things that went well.
Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答下列问题):
Pu Cuifen, a villager from Yunnan Province, experienced that an elephant visited his house two years ago. The elephants were harmful to no one, but had com and beans on the farm. The villagers lost nearly 50,000yuan. Earlier than that, villagers would drive away the elephants to protect their crops, which made the animals angry and led to human injuries or deaths.
Now the government has helped to pay the money for the crops damaged (损害) by elephants. Such things will help protect the interests of farmers and elephants. The government has also created “dining halls” for the wild elephants to grow their favorite food, such as elephant grass and bamboo. Villagers now simply leave the elephants alone.
Yunnan Province is not the only example of protecting wild animals. In Tibet, Migmar used to be a hunter, but now has become a rescuer at the wildlife rescue station of Qomolangma. He and his friends take turns to go around to check there’s no trouble or danger for wild animals every day. The wildlife rescue station was set up in 2019. From then on, they have saved 17 wild animals. During this period, they learned to tie up the animals and clean their wounds, and set them free into the wild when they got well again. “Animals don’t talk, but I can feel their trust. We should protect them,” said Migmar.
Examples of taking care of wild animals appear more around us. From damage to protection, people see more changing on human-wildlife relations. Even the simplest change and action can make a change to the world.

Our trip to Xuhui campus
Last week, we had a school trip to Xuhui campus.
We started on a sunny day in the morning. It took us two hours to drive there. When we got there, we were attracted by the landscape garden of Xuhui campus. Then we visited the history of Rongqiao middle school in the museum. We were deeply moved by the spirit of Rongqiao people. Finally, we tasted the delicious food of Xuhui canteen.
To make school trips more meaningful, I think we could do some research about the destination before the trip and take notes during the visit. In this way, we can gain more knowledge and have a better understanding of what we see. All in all, we had an interesting and meaningful school trip.
