Part of my youth remains in the suburbs (郊区) of Hangzhou, China. I still remember the children fed homeless cats in the open streets and the elders took walks in the peaceful parks. The streets were just wide enough for one car to pass through. At 70 years old, my grandpa could still ride a bike to take me through the town fast enough for the wind to mess up my hair and send my hat flying.
One day, my grandpa and I went to the shopping mall to get some daily things. Back home, my grandparents went to work, creating an aroma that spread through the kitchen and into the living room where I was reading an old book. Within half an hour, some fish, white rice, and purple corn were laid out on the table. I was not a patient granddaughter and I often burned my fingers when picking up the purple com, though my complaints were forgotten after the first bite.
After about two years of living with my grandparents, I went to Australia. The streets were very noisy, and the corn in stores was white, small, and didn't have any flavor(味道). Even when I discovered frozen purple corn from a Chinese supermarket, it just wasn't the same. I could hardly eat a bite. I found myself crying for the purple corn my grandparents cooked, which reminded me of the simple and warm life in Hangzhou. I also dreamed of going back to my country one day!

China is working hard to help people manage their weight and live healthier lives. The government has started a three-year program (2024-2027) to fight obesity(肥胖) which can lead to serious health problems like heart disease. Here's what you need to know:
First, it is necessary to check your BMI(身体质量指数). For adults, a healthy BMI falls between 18.5 and 24. If your BMI is between 24 and 28, you are considered overweight, which can cause health problems. A BMI of 28 or higher shows obesity which more easily causes health problems.
For diet, choose whole grains(全谷物) like brown rice, fresh vegetables, and other healthy foods like fish, chicken, or beans. Avoid fried foods and sweet snacks, and eat less salt and oil.
Eating right is important. Exercise matters just as much! Try to do activities like walking, biking, or dancing for 150-300 minutes each week. If you sit for a long time, stand up and move for a few minutes every hour.
Besides diet and exercise, small daily habits can also make a big difference. Teens should sleep at least 8–10hours each night because poor sleep can lead to weight gain. During meals, eat vegetables first, then meat, and finally rice or bread to control how much you eat.
Schools and communities also take part in the program. For example, schools in Shanghai now make sure students exercise for at least two hours every day, and hospitals offer food plans, exercise tips and traditional Chinese methods. By 2030, China hopes to slow the rise in obesity through education and support.
Remember, losing weight starts with small changes. With the steps above, everyone can build a healthier future!
32. What has the government done to help people fight obesity?
A. It has made exercise plans for people. B. It has started a three-year program.
C. It has warned people with heart disease. D. It has told people about health problems.

Exploring Space: A New Home for Humans
Have you ever looked at the sky and wondered: Can we live in space? Scientists believe building homes on other planets, like Mars, could help humans survive future challenges. With problems like climate change and fewer resources on Earth, finding a new home in space has become an important task.
Exploring space is important because Earth faces many challenges. Our resources like water and energy are limited. Dangers such as asteroids(小行星) or very bad weather changes could also harm life on Earth. Space might offer safer solutions— for example, the Moon has materials to build houses, and Mars has ice that could become drinking water.
Right now, Chinese scientists and engineers are working on exciting space projects. China's Chang’ e-6recently brought back moon samples(样本), helping scientists study how to use lunar resources. Meanwhile, theTianwen-1 Mars rover(火星探测器) is exploring the Red Planet to learn if humans can live there. On the Tiangong space station, astronauts have grown rice and vegetables, proving that plants can grow in space.
However, living in space is not easy. Space has bad temperatures, harmful energy, and very weak gravity. To survive, humans need more high-tech tools to build safe houses and create clean air. Luckily, China is testing
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
new ideas, such as 3D-printed buildings for the Moon and systems to recycle air and water on space stations.
Looking ahead, space could become humanity's new area. It might take many years to build research bases on the Moon or Mars, but every step counts. Students should work harder to solve these challenges. By learning science and working together, humans can turn space into a place for exploration and growth. Let's keep exploring!
36. What makes it possible for humans to live on Mars?
A. Soil that could grow vegetables. B. Materials that could build houses.
C. Plants that could feed many people. D. Ice that could become drinking water.
37. Which of the following Chinese rovers collected samples from the Moon?
A. Chang'e-5. B. Chang’ e-6. C. Tianwen-1. D. Tianwen-2.

B. By giving examples first, then goals and suggestions.

D. By listing challenges first, then solutions and examples.

Chinese traditional art: the trotting horse lamp
The trotting horse lamp is a kind of traditional lantern which is often used to celebrate festivals such as the Spring Festival, the Lantern Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival. The lamp is popular for its fun and deep meaning in Changyi Town and Pohu Area in Jiangxi Province. If someone expects every-thing to go well in the future, he or she will light a trotting horse lamp. It is said that the lamp was invented in the Southern Song Dynasty.
There is a wheel inside the lantern, as well as small candles that are burning or lights at its bottom. The wooden sticks support the whole lamp and paper covers it. Once the candles burn, the temperature inside goes up. Then it's hot enough to cause the air to flow, so that the wheel shaft turns.
The shadow(阴影) of the paper cuttings on the shaft appears on the screen, and the image(图像) will move around without stopping because of the airflow. In ancient times, the paper cuttings were often about people who were riding horses. Because the movements of the paper cuttings looked as if a few people were running after each other, this kind of lantern is named the trotting horse lamp.
However, making a trotting horse lamp is very challenging. It requires not only painting and paper cutting skills but also lots of patience, as every step must be done carefully. At present, this skill is mainly in the hands of the older generation. They worry it might disappear and hope that young people will try learning it and pass it
