第2课时 七年级(上) Units 59 一、阅读理解 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 As we know, eating vegetables is good for us. Why do some people like them but others don􀆳t? A new study has found that other people􀆳s likes and dislikes could be a reason. According to the research, people who eat vegetables and show a clear dislike for them can influence others. People may make facial expressions(面部表情) when eating. How do they affect a person when we are watching them? A team of scientists in the UK did a study. They asked more than 200 young women to watch videos of other adults eating broccoli(西兰花). The people in the videos had different expressions while eating. They would smile, seem neutral(neither happy nor sad), or look disgusted. The study found that when people in the videos look disgusted while eating broccoli, people watching them began to like broccoli less. The opposite was not true, however. When someone had a smile while eating broccoli, people watching them did not like broccoli more. By watching others, humans learn which behaviors will be good for them. Scientists believe that people might avoid food that looks terrible. In this way, people can protect themselves from eating something bad or dangerous. The research focused only on adults, but the team believe that the results could also work for children. This means, if children see their parents not enjoying certain foods, including vegetables, they might not want to eat them, either. How does the behavior of adults influence children􀆳s choices of food? The team said they hoped to understand more about it. This could help find ways to encourage children to eat more healthy foods. And they also choose among elective subjects(选修课) to complete their high school education. 1.     Each student in the school has their own locker(锁柜) for books. 2. And students can own a small space where they can decorate with posters and favorite things.  Most high schools have at least one sports team. Schools often offer football, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, tennis and soccer. 3.     Many high school students have part-time jobs by the age of 15 or 16, some even earlier. 4. But later they will probably get a job at a fast-food restaurant, video store, or clothing shop.  Sixteen is the legal(法定的) driving age in most states, and students usually want to own a car as soon as they can. 5. Others would like their children to earn enough money to buy a used vehicle(交通工具). Many teenagers feel it􀆳s necessary to own one, and will do whatever it takes to be able to drive.  A.Their first jobs are often babysitting or cutting lawns. B.This helps students save time without carrying textbooks. C.Some parents allow their children to drive a family vehicle. D.Some may even have sports like golf, swimming and gymnastics. I didn􀆳t write a word 2 three days before the deadline(截止日期). Finally, I wrote 90 pages over 72 3 , staying up two nights in a row to finish it on time. Of course, it was a very bad paper.    I have a theory that the brains of procrastinators are different from 4 of other people. Both kinds of people are able 5 smart decisions. But the procrastinator􀆳s brain also has a part that doesn􀆳t like making the “right” 6 . It only wants whatever is the easiest and most fun.    For the procrastinator, this part of the brain makes all the decisions. So how can people like 7 work when we really need to? It turns out that procrastinators 8 have a part of their brain that makes them panic. This part isn􀆳t active all the time. But it suddenly “wakes up” when deadlines are 9 . It􀆳s the only thing that can make us take action.    The 10 is that there are many things in our lives that don􀆳t come with deadlines. We know that we should spend 11 time exercising or seeing our family. But these things don􀆳t have deadlines. 12 how can we work on them?    One thing you can try is making a “life calendar”. 13 a goal for yourself, such as exercising 20 minutes each day for a week. Take a regular calendar and put a big red “×” on each day. After a week, you 14 a neat row of “×”. This will help you feel more 15 about working towards your goals.
