Suddenly, I noticed a group of kids who were drawing with chalk on the ground outside the window. Then I took some chalk and joined them. At first, I just drew some simple shapes—a star here, a flower there. Then one of the kids suggested we work together to create a big painting on the wall. I thought it would be fun, so I agreed. After a heated discussion, we decided to draw an underwater world filled with fish. Each of us tried our best to design the underwater world we imagined. Soon, the wall turned into a wonderful picture and passers-by stopped to admire our artwork and take photos. We were all excited. Unluckily, it was going to rain. We watched our artwork slowly disappear. At first, I felt upset about losing what we’d created. However, one kid said, “It doesn’t matter—it’s not about keeping it forever; it’s about making people happy while it lasts.” His words lit up my world and it turned out to be a joyful experience. My view on art and life has changed since then. We don’t need things to last forever to make a difference. Sometimes, the best things are short-lived, but they stay in our hearts as happy memories. Now, whenever I feel sad or unsure, I will tell myself: live with courage, create without fear, and share happiness wherever you go. 6. Where were the kids drawing at first? A. On the wall. B. On the ground. C. On paper. D. On a blackboard. 7. What did the kids decide to draw together? A. An amazing garden. B. A forest with animals. C. An underwater world. D. A city with tall buildings. 8. What did the passers-by think of the painting? A. Strange. B. Helpful. C. Common. D. Wonderful. 9. How did the writer’s feelings change that afternoon? A. Bored→sad→calm→excited. B. Calm→happy→sad→excited. C. Bored→excited→sad→happy. D. Excited→bored→sad→happy. 10. What did the writer learn from this experience? A. Rain can clear our minds. B. Artworks should always be perfect. C. It’s important to be active and make friends. D. It’s good to enjoy creating and sharing with others. C Cats don’t always respond when people talk to them, but they may be listening more closely than we think. According to the results of a new study, they can learn to associate (联系) spoken words with images. A research team led by Saho Takagi of Azabu University in Japan ran an experiment (实验) with 31 cats. They gave the cats a word and picture test that is usually given to human babies. Researchers played a recording of the cats’ owners saying a meaningless word: either “parumo” or “keranu”. While listening to each word, the cats were shown either a picture of a red sun or a blue-and-white unicorn on a screen. The pictures would grow bigger or smaller to catch the cats’ attention. The cats were shown the word-picture pairs several times. Finally, they got used to them and started to show researchers they were bored. In the second part, researchers showed one of the images to the cats again. But for half of the cats, researchers changed the word that was played along with the image. The cats that heard the “wrong” word spent more time looking at the image. And their pupils (瞳孔) grew larger, showing they were confused (困惑的) by what they were seeing and hearing. Most cats seemed to develop a word-picture association after two nine-second training sessions. That’s faster than how human babies learn the connections in similar experiments, which is really surprising. This study adds to a growing body of research on cats’ ability to understand language. They can recognize their own names and the names of their family members. It seems that cats pay attention to what we say in everyday life—and try to understand us—more than we realize. 11. What is the result of the new study? A. Cats can’t understand images. B. Cats can know what we’re talking about. C. Cats can connect spoken words to images. D. Cats are more interested in spoken words than in images. 12. Why did the researchers change the size of the pictures? A. To test the cats’ eyesight. B. To attract the cats’ attention. C. To help the cats recognize colors. D. To train the cats to follow moving objects. 13. What’s the difference between the first and second part? A. The training time of all the cats was increased. B. The colors of the images were changed for half of the cats. C. The researchers added new images of animals for half of the cats. D. The researchers played another word along with the image for half of the cats. 14. What is surprising about cats according to the text? A. Cats can know their names. B. Most cats could learn the word - picture connections faster than human babies. C. Cats forget names after a long time. D. Cats understand the human language as we think. 15. Where is the text most probably taken from? A. A travel guide. B. A science magazine. C. A picture book. D. A culture newspaper. D Imagine having a conversation with your friend, and you feel happy about it at the end of the conversation, but you are not quite sure why. Now imagine having the same conversation, but this time you feel excited because you know more about your friend. What’s the difference? In the second case, you know exactly how you feel, which helps you deal with the situation effectively (有效地). This way of understanding and naming feelings in different situations is called emotional granularity (情绪粒度). Life is like a box of chocolates. It often presents us with different emotions. Understanding these feelings is important for a happy life. Those with high emotional granularity can name their feelings exactly. Instead of saying “I feel happy”, they would say, “I’m happy about the deep friendship and satisfied with the moment with my friend. I value our friendship and will remember it forever.” People with higher emotional granularity have more developed brain structure in emotional-processing areas. These areas in the brain work well together. They help us notice our emotions, name them, and react to them more correctly. Developing the ability to name feelings very well can build an emotional immune system (免疫系统) against mood disorders. The benefits of emotional granularity are far-reaching. It helps people manage their emotions better, and then improve relationships with family and friends. Actually, emotional granularity is not only gifted but can also be nurtured. To build emotional granularity, you can learn more emotional words, keep an emotional diary, try different emotional experiences, and often play emotional role-playing games. All in all, in real conversations, emotional granularity helps people make better decisions in many social situations. It also makes us stronger and better at dealing with stress by noticing emotional problems early. 16. Why does the writer begin the passage by comparing facts? A. To teach us how to deal with emotions. B. To encourage us to express our feelings. C. To lead into the topic of emotional granularity. D. To show the difference between feelings and expressions. 17. How do people with high emotional granularity express their feelings? A. They share their true feelings easily. B. They express their emotions exactly. C. They show the facts and avoid expressing their feelings. D. They use some single words to express their emotions. 18. How can you build an emotional immune system? A. By eating healthy food. B. By learning more words. C. By playing outdoor games. D. By practicing naming emotions exactly. 19. What does the underlined word “nurtured” mean in Paragraph 5? A. Developed. B. Described. C. Chosen. D. Checked. 20. Why does the writer write this text? A. To show the ways to control emotions. B. To call us to develop emotional granularity. C. To explain the benefits of noticing emotions. D. To give opinions about emotional granularity. 第二节 阅读七选五(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 It’s often said that a person’s thoughts create their reality. 8. 【答案】11. C 12. B 13. D 14. B 15. 【答案】16. C 17. B 18. D 19. A 20. Recently, many cities have increased the class breaks to 15 minutes. This change aims to encourage students to exercise more and improve their health. With longer breaks, students can relax both physically and mentally after sitting for a long time. To make good use of break time, students should plan wisely. First, doing light exercises like jumping rope or playing games can help them stay active. Second, chatting with friends or listening to music can reduce stress. Finally, preparing books for the next class is also a good idea to save time. I think this change is meaningful. Not only does it help students develop healthy habits, but it also makes school life more enjoyable. With more energy, we can focus better in class.
