She is busy helping the cooks with some traditional dishes. At their small manufacturing (制造) unit in Kerala, Lakshmi often refers to her mother’s handwritten cookbook. It’s a valuable guide that reminds her to stick to the original dishes, use time-honored methods of preparation and ensure the taste of food items remains the same. Lakshmi was only 10 years old when her mother Vinaya PG began the business of selling Kerala and Konkani specialities. After school, young Lakshmi eagerly looked forward to tasting the day’s specials. Mom loved cooking and would make all kinds of snacks, she recalls. “I was always excited to see what she had made each day. I’d help her with packing and deliveries. While she managed most of the manufacturing, I would attend trade shows to sell the products and aid her in sales and marketing.” Lakshmi says this business gave her mother a purpose in life. The project was so close to her heart that even on her hospital bed, as she struggled for her life, her primary concern was the business. After losing her mother in 2021, Lakshmi made the brave decision to carry on her mother’s business. It was not just about continuing a business; it was about honoring her mother’s memory. “I couldn’t bring myself to close down what she had started. He loves the bird songs he records, without the insect noises that are so common in other nearby regions. Born blind, Culasso pays more attention to the sounds of nature than most birders. In fact, he can identify more than 2,000 birds by their song. Now he and his partners in Colombia have developed birding trails (路线). These trails enable people who are blind or have poor eyesight to visit the cloud forest of San Antonio. They can enjoy the birds of the area. The trails include six separate locations. The locations offer tours with specially trained guides. Blind visitor Gabriel Soto took his first bird trip on one of the trails earlier this year. He also had an audio guide with recordings of 50 common birds in the area. “It’s wonderful because it makes me experience birding freely.” he says. He went home that day with a new interest in birds. And now he often tries to identify bird sounds at home. “When you can identify them, you enjoy them a lot more,” he adds. Using his knowledge of birdsong and tourism, Culasso trained local guides and tourist operators. During training, he asked guides to try to experience nature as he did. He challenged them to describe ecosystems in a detailed way without sight. What also makes the project unique is that the tours can be organized at any time, not just as scheduled special events. Culasso hopes that encouraging bird tourism can drive the protection of this unique ecosystem. For example, the multicolored tanager, his favorite bird, was seldom seen just four years ago. Thanks to the local environmental protection, today this beautiful bird is often seen and heard. Culasso says when nature is within reach, everyone wins. 28. What are the birding trails in San Antonio designed to do? A. Support scientific research on local forests. B. Provide job opportunities for blind guides. C. Bring nature to those with sight problems. D. Apply new technology to bird feeding. 29. How does the project benefit visitors according to Gabriel Soto? A By enabling creative bird photography. B. By inspiring active bird exploration. C. By improving communication skills. D. By increasing physical activity. 30. What is a special feature of Culasso’s training approach? A. Stressing the senses beyond sight. B. Organizing adventurous guiding trips. C. Allowing planning of volunteer events. D. Encouraging memorization of bird species. 31. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Travel through Colombia’s rainforest B. Teach bird-watching to nature lovers C. Save endangered birds actively D. Enjoy birding through sound 【答案】28. C 29. B 30. A 31. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。讲述了天生失明的库拉索开发观鸟路线,让视力不佳者通过声音赏鸟,推动生态保护,实现多方共赢。 【28题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“These trails enable people who are blind or have poor eyesight to visit the cloud forest of San Antonio. They can enjoy the birds of the area.(这些路线能让失明或视力不好的人参观圣安东尼奥的云雾森林。他们可以欣赏该地区的鸟类。)”可知,圣安东尼奥的观鸟路线是为了让有视力问题的人接触自然。故选C。 【29题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“He also had an audio guide with recordings of 50 common birds in the area. ‘It’s wonderful because it makes me experience birding freely.’ he says. He went home that day with a new interest in birds. And now he often tries to identify bird sounds at home. ‘When you can identify them, you enjoy them a lot more,’ he adds.(他还有一个音频指南,里面有该地区50种常见鸟类的录音。‘这太棒了,因为它让我能自由地体验观鸟。’他说。那天回家后,他对鸟类有了新的兴趣。现在他经常在家里尝试识别鸟叫声。‘当你能识别它们时,你会更加享受它们。’他补充道。)”可知,这个项目激发了游客积极地探索鸟类。故选B。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“During training, he asked guides to try to experience nature as he did. He challenged them to describe ecosystems in a detailed way without sight.(在培训期间,他让导游像他一样尝试体验自然。他要求他们在没有视觉的情况下详细描述生态系统。)”可知,库拉索的培训方法强调除视觉外的其他感官体验。故选A。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文可知,文章主要讲述了天生失明的库拉索利用对鸟鸣的了解和旅游知识开发了观鸟路线,让盲人或视力不好的人通过声音体验观鸟,还培训导游让他们用除视觉外的感官体验自然,所以D项Enjoy birding through sound(通过声音享受观鸟)符合语境,适合用作标题。故选D。 D The rapid growth of online platforms is seriously impacting video rental stores. With increasing Internet speeds, downloading movies has become convenient. In 2012, some websites landed in the UK and a stream of streamers followed, resulting in the near-total disappearance of video rental stores. However, it wasn’t always like this. After the Video Home System (VHS) came to the UK in the late 1970s, a number of video rental stores showed up. One of the world’s leading video rental chains opened its first British branch in South London in 1989. At its height, there were more than 800 branches in the UK. For years, these shops could be seen everywhere. The remaining owners remember this golden age of rental well. “On a weekend, we would have six staff and it would be continuous service. But when affordable DVDs came into play, the scene changed.” AllStar Video owner Colin Richards recalls. Snips’ owner, Dave Wain, is among a small group of movie supporters who refuse to let video rental fade to black. Alongside Snips, just two other original video rental stores still stand. The stores offer something extra. “We can come in for a DVD and spend a good half hour meeting different people and chatting about films,” one customer called Andrew says. “Every person who rents a film from us gives us a review of it when they bring it back. We really appreciate it.” says Wain. Standing in Snips, there are two great joys. First, the decision-making process: the arrangement of DVD covers draws the eyes in a way that online movies cannot match. Then, there’s something truly magical about physical media: the process of taking out a DVD, the artwork, and the DVD menus make viewers truly enjoy themselves. Can video rental stores really still survive, or even enjoy a comeback? After all, the streaming sites also face problems down the line with higher subscription fees (订阅费) and their new advertising plans. Plus, all the owners of these rental stores are now experiencing a growing crowd coming in, longing for physical videos. 32. What was the UK’s video rental industry like in the late 20th century? A. It grew rapidly across the country. B. It mainly focused on foreign films. C. It faced challenges from technology. D. It struggled to develop in North London. 33. What does the underlined phrase “fade to black” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Introduce new services. B. Replace online shops. C. Gradually disappear. D. Change its form. 34. What extra advantage do the rental stores offer according to Andrew and Wain? A. Personalized film recommendations. B. Chances of community interaction. C. Regular in-store film viewings. D. The online ordering system. 35. Which is Snips’ main strategy to attract customers? A. Providing discounts on ordering services. B. Inviting local artists to design the store. C. Hosting film-themed social gatherings. D. Creating a unique physical experience. 【答案】32. A 33. C 34. B 35. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了英国录像租赁行业的兴衰变迁。 【32题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“After the Video Home System (VHS) came to the UK in the late 1970s, a number of video rental stores showed up.(20世纪70年代末,家用录像系统(VHS)进入英国后,出现了许多录像租赁店)”可知,20世纪后叶,英国的录像租赁行业迅速发展。故选A。 【33题详解】 词句猜测题。根据画线短语后一句“Alongside Snips, just two other original video rental stores still stand.(除了Snips,只有另外两家原创视频租赁店仍然存在)”可知,Snips和另外两家原创视频租赁店仍然存在。由此可推测出,Snips店主不想让录像租赁消失,fade to black表义为“褪成黑色”,这里表示的是“慢慢消失”。故选C。 34题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段最后一句“The stores offer something extra.(这些店提供额外的东西)”和第四段““We can come in for a DVD and spend a good half hour meeting different people and chatting about films,” one customer called Andrew says. “Every person who rents a film from us gives us a review of it when they bring it back. We really appreciate it.” says Wain.(一位名叫Andrew的顾客说:“我们可以进来买一张DVD,花半个小时与不同的人见面,聊电影。”Wain说:“每个从我们这里租电影的人在带回来时都会给我们一个电影评价。我们真的很感激。”)”可知,在录像租赁店里,顾客们可以与不同的人见面,聊电影,给店主电影反馈。由此可推测出,录像租赁店提供了交流的机会。故选B。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段“Standing in Snips, there are two great joys. First, the decision-making process: the arrangement of DVD covers draws the eyes in a way that online movies cannot match. Then, there’s something truly magical about physical media: the process of taking out a DVD, the artwork, and the DVD menus make viewers truly enjoy themselves.(站在Snips中,有两大乐趣。 What makes sports stars so good at what they do? How can a violinist effortlessly perform a challenging piece without looking at the music? ____36____ More specifically, it can be termed “overlearning”. Overlearning happens when you practice or study something even after you’ve already mastered it. ____37____ However, it doesn’t always stay there. If that skill or information isn’t used again soon after, the brain will clear it away. This is a big challenge not only for teachers and trainers but also for learners. Some factors can help keep the learning in place. ____38____ Interaction (互动) is necessary. If the process makes the learner laugh or struggle, or it requires additional help, it is less likely to be forgotten. Besides, when the information is revisited regularly, the brain recognizes its importance. But how can we keep revisiting the same points in training practices without becoming bored? That’s where overlearning is important. Skills and knowledge should be revisited in different ways. For example, in tennis, serving (发球) is extremely important, and there are seven steps in achieving a perfect serve. Coaches will get players to practice each of those seven stages repeatedly. ____39____The learning goal remains the same; it's the method that changes. While overlearning has its advantages, it can also create a false sense of mastery. If you’ve practised something over and over again, you can certainly be highly fluent (流畅的). But it’s easy to confuse fluency and understanding. For instance, there’s a big difference between knowing all the features of a product and effectively using those features to make a sale. ____40____ A. Testing is good for active learning. B. The answer lies in learning through repetition. C. Students benefit from overlearning difficult texts. D. To prevent boredom, they'll introduce various ways. E Applying knowledge is just as important as storing it. F. Primarily, information should be learned in an active way. G. Newly learned information remains in our brain for a while. 【答案】36. B 37. G 38. F 39. D 40. E 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要探讨了“过度学习”,并详细解释了过度学习的含义、作用、保持学习效果的因素、如何避免过度学习中的厌倦感,以及过度学习的优缺点。 【36题详解】 根据上文“What makes sports stars so good at what they do? How can a violinist effortlessly perform a challenging piece without looking at the music?(是什么让体育明星如此擅长他们所从事的运动呢?小提琴手又如何能不看乐谱就轻松演奏一首极具挑战性的乐曲呢?)”可知,上文提出了两个问题。而空后“More specifically, it can be termed “overlearning”.(更确切地说,这可以被称为“过度学习”。)”则提出过度学习这一概念。选项B“The answer lies in learning through repetition.(答案在于通过重复学习。)”既承接了上文的问题,又引出了下文关于过度学习的内容,符合语境。故选B。 【37题详解】 下文“However, it doesn’t always stay there. If that skill or information isn’t used again soon after, the brain will clear it away.(然而,它不会一直停留在那里。如果这项技能或知识在不久之后没有再次被运用,大脑就会将其清除。)”中的“it”和“that skill or information”都指代前文提到的内容。选项G“Newly learned information remains in our brain for a while.(新学的知识会在我们的大脑中停留一段时间。)”中的“Newly learned information”即下文中的“it”和“that skill or information”,内容上与后文形成转折关系,说明新学信息先会停留,之后若不使用会被大脑清除,符合逻辑。故选G。 【38题详解】 根据上文“Some factors can help keep the learning in place.(有一些因素有助于将所学的知识巩固下来。)”可知,有些因素有助于将所学的知识巩固下来。而下文“Interaction (互动) is necessary. If the process makes the learner laugh or struggle, or it requires additional help, it is less likely to be forgotten.(互动是必不可少的。如果学习过程能让学习者欢笑或费些心思,又或者需要额外的帮助,那么所学内容就不太容易被遗忘。)”则强调了互动这种积极学习方式的重要性。选项F“Primarily, information should be learned in an active way.(首先,信息应该以积极的方式来学习。)”自然引出后文关于积极学习方式(互动)的阐述,符合上下文逻辑。故选F。 【39题详解】 根据上文“But how can we keep revisiting the same points in training practices without becoming bored? That’s where overlearning is important. Skills and knowledge should be revisited in different ways. For example, in tennis, serving (发球) is extremely important, and there are seven steps in achieving a perfect serve. Coaches will get players to practice each of those seven stages repeatedly.(但是,我们要如何在训练中不断复习相同的要点,同时又不会感到厌烦呢?这就是过度学习的重要之处了。应该以不同的方式复习技能和知识。例如,在网球运动中,发球极其重要,而要实现一次完美的发球有七个步骤。教练会让球员反复练习这七个步骤中的每一个。)”可知,上文提到如何在训练中不断复习相同的要点,同时又不会感到厌烦。选项D“To prevent boredom, they'll introduce various ways.(为了避免厌烦情绪,他们会采用各种各样的方法。)”承接上文关于避免训练厌烦的问题,以及教练让球员反复练习的内容,说明为避免厌烦会采用不同方式,符合语境。故选D。 【40题详解】 根据上文“While overlearning has its advantages, it can also create a false sense of mastery. If you’ve practised something over and over again, you can certainly be highly fluent (流畅的). But it’s easy to confuse fluency and understanding. For instance, there’s a big difference between knowing all the features of a product and effectively using those features to make a sale.(尽管过度学习有其优点,但它也可能会让人产生一种对知识掌握程度的错觉。如果你一遍又一遍地练习某件事,你肯定能做到非常熟练。但人们很容易将熟练和理解混为一谈。比如说,了解一个产品的所有特性与有效地运用这些特性来促成销售之间存在着很大的差别。)”可知,上文提到过度学习可能导致对掌握的错觉,比如知道产品功能和使用它们做销售的区别。所以这里应强调应用知识的重要性。选项E“Applying knowledge is just as important as storing it.(应用知识和储存知识同样重要。)”总结了上文内容,指出应用知识和储存知识同样重要,符合语境。故选E。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 When my cousin David was only fifty, he was diagnosed (诊断) with Pick’s disease. Also, this business provided job opportunities for a few women from economically (在经济上) disadvantaged backgrounds. I didn’t want to let them go.” she adds. In 2021, Lakshmi turned her mother’s business into “Lakshmi’s by GSB”. She poured her heart into breathing new life and purpose into the business. Lakshmi aimed to take the brand (品牌) to newer heights. Sharing the method that helped grow the business, she says, “I have realized my mother’s wish. C The cloud forest of the Western Andes in Colombia is one of nature recordist Juan Pablo Culasso’s favorite places in the world. A. By enabling creative bird photography. Enjoy birding through sound D The rapid growth of online platforms is seriously impacting video rental stores. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 What makes sports stars so good at what they do? B.
