The children welcomed me warmly on my first day. They asked me a lot of questions, and I told them stories about myself and my life in the city. The next day, I gave them an exam to find out their level. To my surprise, though the exam was very easy, over half of the students flunked it, yet they all wanted to learn new things. I knew they needed me.
I was busy preparing lessons, correcting exam papers every night. I enjoyed teaching these lovely and hard-working children, and I could see that they were making progress with my help. I have also learned a lot from them. I understand their lives better, and we are now good friends.

Recently, a United Nations (UN) climate group published a new report on climate change. The report explains that the climate crisis (危机) has become even more serious.
Since people first began burning coal to run factories, the world’s temperature has gone up by 1.1℃. The world is getting hotter, mainly because humans are burning coal, oil and natural gas to make energy. They give off pollution called “greenhouse gases”. The effects of climate change can already be seen: higher temperatures, record dry periods, wildfires and more strong hurricanes (飓风).
In the 2015 Paris Agreement, the countries of the world agreed to cut pollution in an effort to limit (限制) global warming to 1.5℃. If the planet heats up by more than 1.5℃, life on Earth will be far more difficult.
But the report makes it clear that many countries have not been keeping their promises to cut pollution. The Earth is now on the way to reach 1.5℃ by the early 2030s. So the world needs to cut greenhouse gas emissions (排放) almost in half by 2030. If not, global temperatures will continue to rise, and the future will become much more dangerous.
Governments know what must be done to avoid a climate crisis. There are already many technologies which are needed for environment-friendly power, such as wind, sun and water power, and they are getting cheaper.
Luckily, there is still time to avoid the worst effects of the climate crisis. Let’s act strongly right away.
13. The climate crisis is mainly caused by ______.
A. water pollution B. air pollution C. land pollution D. noise pollution
14. How does the writer prove the effects of climate change?
A. By listing facts. B. By raising questions.

15. What can we know from the text?
A. No countries have promised to cut pollution.
B. Humans have no time to stop the climate crisis.
C. Governments must take strong climate action by 2030.
D. The 2015 Paris Agreement makes our life difficult.
16 Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. The Goal to Cut Pollution by 2030, B. A UN Report about the Climate Crisis.

Whether you are successful or not depends on your habits. Good habits lead you to success, and bad habits lead you to failure. So it is said that the biggest difference between success and failure comes from different habits.
Good habits are not only necessary but also powerful for success, Truly successful people have many good habits that lead to their success. Bernard Shaw’s insistence (坚持) on the habit of “do what should be done first” made him a famous writer. John Rockefeller has become one of the richest people in the world because of his free working habit.
As students, habits are especially important to you. Obey the school rules. Listen carefully in class and finish the homework on time. Try to solve the difficulties you have in your study. Take an active part in as many meaningful activities as you can. Review and consolidate (巩固) what you have learned in your spare time. If you insist on it for a long time, you will succeed. Instead, if you are lazy, play and do something that has nothing to do with study, or even give up your study, will you succeed?
Ye Shengtao, an educator, once said, “It’s better to have a good habit than to have millions of dollars.” So good habits are the most valuable wealth in your life. No matter in study or in life, you should develop good habits. And they will benefit you all your life, and will accompany (陪伴) you on the final success.
