Every afternoon after school, the children played in the Giant's beautiful garden, where birds
sang and flowers bloomcd (绽放). "How happy we are here!" they cried.
One day, the Giant returned after visiting his friend. When
he saw the children playing in his garden, he angrily ordered
them to leave, saying, "This is my garden, and nobody else can
be here."He then built a high wall around it and put up a sign that
read, "Do Not Enter!"
Without the children, the garden fell into endless coldness
"I cannot understand why the Spring is so late in coming," said
the Giant, looking out at his cold white garden, "I hope there will
be a change in the weather."
But the Spring never came, nor the Summer. The Autumn gave golden fruit to every garden, but
to the Giant's garden she gave none
One morning the Giant heard some lovely music. Immediately he jumped out of bed and looked
out, seeing children sneaking (偷湍) back through a hole in the wall. The birds were flying with
pleasure, and the flowers were looking up and laughing
And the Giant's heart softened."How selfish (自私的) I have been!" he said: "Now I know why
the Spring would not come here, I will knock down the wall, and my garden shall be the children's
playground for ever and ever."

Scientists in California have created a new material called COF-9o9, soft yellow powder (粉末)
This material can remove large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO:) from the air. It could become an
important tool in fighting climate change, helping us better protect the Earth's environment.
Today, many people are working on ways to remove CO: from the air and store it. This is called
Direct Air Capture (DAC, ITt接空气捕集技术). DAC technology is still being developed. Usually, air
is pulled through a material that can catch CO, One common material is limestone -a kind of rock
Later, the material is heated to give off the CO:, so it can be stored safely underground. But today's
methods of using limestone are expensive and don't catch much CO.
COF-9o9 is a different story. Under a powerful microscope (显微镜). it looks like tiny balls with
many holes. These holes let air pass through. Attached(附着) to the ball are "amines." a specia
chemical that can take in CO: from the air. To test COF-999, scientists filled a small tube (管道) with
the powder. They passed air through the tube for 20 days. The air that came out of it had no CO: at
all.
COF-9o9 catches CO: 10 times faster than other materials. Half a pound (226.8g) of it car
catch as much CO: as a tree, Unlike trees, it works even at night. To let out the CO2, COF-999 only
needs to be heated to 140'F (6o'C). This needs less energy than other materials: COF-999 is also
cheap to make and can be reused many times. Scientists have tested it 3oo times and believe it car
be used thousands of times.
The next challenge is to use COF-999 in a DAC system. Scientists need to design a machine
that won't let the powder blow away. They hope COF-999 will be ready for use in about two years
56. What can we know about COF-999 from Paragraph 1?
A. It is a green plant that takes in CO..
B. It is a new material to remove CO2
C. It can produce new CO: from the air.
D, It can change CO: into yellow powder
57. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. Disadvantages of DAC.
B. DAC's process and limits.
C. Risks of CO, removal.
D. Low cost in CO, removal
58. The underlined word "it" in Paragraph 3 refers to (指代)"__".
B. amicroscope
C. theball
A. rock
D. the tube
59. What is the purpose of using numbers in Paragraph 4?
A. To show the advantages of COF-9o9.
B. To describe the shape of COF-999
C. To introduce the background of COF-999.
D. To explain the role of COF-999.
60. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. COF-999: Future of CO: Storage
B. CO, Capture: End of Global Warming
C. CO: Capture: A Solution with Trees for the Future
D: COF-999: A New Material to Fight Climate Change

High-tech products, including robots and drones, recently attracted widespread attention for
their successful role in rescuing tourists from the water. These new technologies were used for the
first time by the local government in the city of Wanning in Hainan, months ago. The products were
joined in rescue efforts by the local Blue Sky Rescue (BSR) team
Among the products was a U-shaped water rescue robot, a smart product designed to. quickly
reach people in danger or correctly send supplies. On January
31. three tourists fell into the ocean after their boat turned
upside down two kilometers away from the coast near the city
a water rescue robot
of Wanning in South China's Hainan Province. Luckily, a
member of the local BSR team saw them immediately. The
team first used a drone to check the situation in real time. Since
sending another boat was impossible because of the strong
wind and high waves, a U-shaped robot was used. Within five
minutes, the robot reached the three tourists in large ocean
waves and successfully pulled them back to the coast. All three
were unharmed
"Lifeboats can be broken in the stormy waters, while rescuers can experience physical tiredness
or even risk of life," said Liu Jiao, a member of the BSR. The U-shaped robot addresses these
problems, offering a safer and more effective solution. Operated far away from the ocean on the land
the small robot can deal with difficult conditions, greatly reducing risks for rescuers.
During typhoons, it is really dangerous for human rescuers to enter the water, as waves can
reach.heights of three to four meters. However, the U-shaped water rescue. robot can get through
waves of any height and function rapidly in both forward and backward directions.
This robot can be used in various environments, such as pools, lakes and rivers. Beyond Hainan.
the robot is already in use in some other coastal areas, including Fujian. China has made great
progress in robotics, applying (应用) these technologies into various fields such as agriculture (农业)
industry, and specialized services

A. They joined in a show in Hainan.
B. They did a good job in saving people
C. They were used for the first time in China

② The boat turned upside down
③ A U-shaped robot was used
④ The BSR. team saw the situation
A.①→③→②→④
B.①→③→④→②
C.②→④→③→①
D.②→④→①→③
63. What does the underlined word "addresses" in Paragraph 3 mean?
B. Causes.
C. Solves.
A. Spreads.
D. Presents.
64. What is special about the U-shaped water rescue robot?
A. It can function without human operators.
B. It moves faster in calm waters than in stormy ones
C. It can work in difficult conditions and operate quickly
D. It is three to four meters higher than common lifeboats.
65. How does the writer feel about the use of robots in China?
C. Worried
A. Hopeful.
B. Doubtful.
D. Curious

People greet each other in various ways - high fives,
handshakes, or even nose touches. The goal is to make others feel
welcome, but it's important to respect their comfort. 66
The sensitive plant, whose scientifie name is Mimosa pudica
is also called the shameplant, or the touch-me-not. It mainly
grows in Central and South America. 67 When you touch

causes the plant to look wilted (枯姿的)
68 Because it doesn't want you to touch it, of course! Just like people, this plant sends
physical signals that you should leave it alone
This gesture is a kind of self-protection. Surprised by the sudden wilting, hungry animals move
away to find a different plant to eat. 69 This encourages other nearby enemies to look for
their dinner elsewhere
A.fter a few minutes, the sensitive plant will send water back to its leaves and stand straight up
again. However, it takes a lot of time for the plant to get well. 70 Wilting may seem like fun.
