“Daddy, may I ask you a question?”
“Yeah sure, what is it?” replied the man.
“Daddy, how much do you make an hour?”
“If you must know, I make $20 an hour!”
Looking up, the little boy asked, “Daddy, may I please borrow $10?”
The father was angry, “If you ask for money to buy a toy, go to bed right now. I work hard every day for your childish behavior?”
The little boy quietly went to his room and closed the door. After about an hour, the man started to think, “Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $10.”
The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door. “Are you asleep, Son?” he asked. “No Daddy, I’m not,” replied the boy.
“I was thinking, maybe I was too strict with you just now,” said the man. “Today I felt a little tired. Here’s the $10 you asked for.” The little boy sat straight up, smiling, “Oh, thank you, Daddy!” Then, he pulled out some crumpled (褶皱的) bills.
The man saw the boy already had money and started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted his money and then looked up at his father. “Why do you want more money if you already have some?” the father asked. “Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,” the little boy replied. “Daddy, I have $20 now. Everyone is born with the ability to learn. But whether or not you can do this well depends on your learning habits. Research shows that successful learners have some good habits in common.
Creating an interest in what they learn
Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it is also easier for you to pay attention to it for a long time. For example, if they need to learn English and they like music or sports, they can listen to English songs or watch sports programs in English.
Practicing and learning from mistakes
Good learners think about what they are good at and what they need to practice more. Remember, “Use it or lose it.” Even if you learn something well, you will forget it unless you use it. Good learners will keep practicing what they have learned. Alexander Graham Bell did; not invent the telephone overnight. He succeeded by trying many times and learning from his mistakes.
Developing their study skills
Good learners know the best way they can study. For example, they may take notes by writing down key words or by drawing mind maps. They also look for ways to review what they have learned.
Asking questions
Good learners often ask questions during or after class. They even ask each other and try to find out the answers.
Learning is a lifelong journey. Everything that you learn becomes a part of you and changes you, so learn wisely and learn well.

With the development of technology, education is changing. The classroom of the future will surely not be the same as the classroom of today.
Students will take classes by looking at their touch-screen desks instead of blackboards. And doing homework, taking down notes, and taking tests will be just a click away (点击鼠标即可). The walls of the classroom will also be filled with real-time screens for students and teachers to show any information they want.
In the coming years, another technology called metaverse (元宇宙) will make learning more exciting. Metaverse is a 3D virtual (虚拟的) world where people can meet, play, and work with others through digital avatars (数字化身). In the metaverse, people can do things like going to the mall, attending a concert or buying virtual clothing. The only difference is that they’ll be doing all these in a virtual environment. Teachers and students can get into a virtual classroom, while in real life, they may be sitting on the sofa at home. The experience will be like being in an actual classroom. Students can also “visit” historical sites, see the real geography of the planet, take tours through international universities or research labs, and much more.
Besides, the classroom of the future holds several learning styles for students. They will be given the freedom to learn things in the way they want. This includes learning through video lectures. Everyone moves at their own pace (节奏), with teachers guiding them along the way. This practice will help students learn faster and have better results.
13. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. The classrooms. B. Real-time screens.
C. Students and teachers. D. Touch-screen desks.
14. What can people do in the metaverse according to the text?
a. Attend a famous singer’s concert. b. Tour around the world on their sofa.
c. Enjoy the smell of beautiful flowers. d. Take classes in world-famous universities.
A. a, b, c B. a, b, d C. a, c, d D. b, c, d
15. What can we know according to the last paragraph?
A. Technology can change our lives. B. Students can choose learning ways.
C. Freedom will be paid much attention to. D. Teachers will disappear in the classroom.
16. What’s the purpose of writing the text?
A. To tell us how the metaverse will change our lives.
B. To tell us how students will learn at their own pace.
C. To tell us how virtual classrooms will become popular.
D. To tell us how the classroom will change in the future.

Hello I’m Jeremy. I’m from the US. This is my report on transportation (交通工具).
This world is always moving. Everything seems to have wheels, engines (引擎) or wings. Everything seems to be getting faster, too. Long ago, horses pulled carts, but now we have engines on everything, even on bicycles and skateboards!
In the 1700s, many scientists worked on steam engines. In the 1760s, a scientist in England found a way to put steam engines and wheels together. Soon people had a new type of transportation: the steam train. In 1804, the first train engine was born in England. It traveled only about fifteen kilometers in two hours. In 1825, the first passenger railway opened. The Rocket was the most famous early engine.
During the 1830s, countries all over the world started to build railways. Fifty years later many countries had railways. People built many train stations to help passengers get on and off the trains easily. Early trains were slow by today’s standards. The Rocket had a top speed of only 45 kilometers per hour. Today’s high-speed trains can travel at about 300 kilometers per hour. The fastest trains can go about 500 kilometers an hour. Chinese is taking the lead in railways in the world.
Transportation is not just on the ground or water. Over 100 years ago, people began to make flying machines. Today we travel a lot by airplane, even travel to space in spaceships. Can you imagine future transportation?
My favorite type of transportation is the bicycle. I like to go everywhere by bike in my city. It’s good for my health and for the environment.
41. When did a British scientist find a way to connect steam engines to wheels?

42. Why were many train stations built after the 1830s?

There have been many great inventions in history. I think the first great invention is the one that is still very important today—the wheel. It was invented a few thousand years ago and it was made of wood at that time. However, the inventor is still unknown.
This invention has made traveling faster and made it easier to carry heavy things. With wheels, people can travel long distances to farther places. People can trade goods between different places. Besides, knowledge and culture spread all around the world. It helps humans develop in a great way.
