Once upon a time, there was a small village in a faraway land. All
of the villagers were used to their robotic daily and none of them had
the will to try something new. Very few people in the village could read,
let alone write. Unlike them, Hannah was an adventurous girl. She loved
to explore(探索) and would spend hours in the woods looking for new
things.
19
One afternoon, Hannah came upon an abandoned cottage(遗弃的小
屋). With curiosity, she slowly opened the door and was shocked by a
room full of books! Shining in the dust(灰尘), books were bathed in
the warm sunlight just waiting to be explored. Seeing them, Hannah
jumped up and down with excitement! She dusted the books and the
shelves. Finally came the moment when she could enjoy reading the
books, which were filled with stories about different creatures. They were
so interesting and encouraging that Hannah lost herself in them
completely. Meanwhile, she couldn't wait to share what she read with her
friends.
However, when she told stories to her friends the next day, they
showed no interest in them. She knew it would be a difficult journey,
but she wouldn't give it up. To inspire(唤起) their curiosity and
imagination, she started telling stories every day at the cottage. She
added her own touch of curiosity now and then to different stories,
making them more interesting. Soon, the word of Hannah's storytelling
spread rapidly. People traveled from different places to just listen to her
stories. Later, she even created workshops to teach villagers how to read
and write. Hannah became their teacher and everyone respected her.
Hannah continued doing this all her life. She was remembered and
lived in her stories even after she was long gone. She became a
reminder for everyone that even in the dustiest corners, there can be a
hidden treasure. And that treasure is not always gold, it can be a story
simply waiting to be shared.

Have you ever been to the Dead Sea, one of the
most famous natural wonders in the world? Have you
ever considered why it is called Dead Sea? Does it hold
life? Can people swim there? With all these questions in
your mind, let's know something about it!
The Dead Sea is actually a lake in the Middle East. At four
hundred meters below sea level, it's the lowest point on the surface of
the earth. It lies between the borders(边界) of Jordan, Israel, and the
West Bank. It's about 80 kilometers long, 11 kilometers wide at its
C
widest point, and 377 meters deep at its deepest. The lake is surrounded
by hot, dry desert on all sides.
Since it's in a hot desert, water evaporates(蒸发) faster than the
lake is refilled. And the area is lower than all the land around, it can
only evaporate. In fact, the water of the Dead Sea evaporates so much
that a cloud of fog can often be seen hanging over the lake. As the
water evaporates, it leaves behind salt and minerals(矿物质). The
water in the Dead Sea is almost six times saltier than ocean water!
Because the Dead Sea is so salty, almost nothing can live in it
except bacteria(细菌). Any fish or freshwater animals that gets washed
into the lake dies almost immediately. And the shores are covered in
thick salt crystals(结晶), so animals can't even live near the lake.
That's why it's called the Dead Sea.
Actually,it's really safe for people to swim in the Dead Sea if they
want to. However, it's pretty hard to swim because all the salt makes it
much easier to float(漂浮).
Want to know more about it? Just explore it yourself!

My favorite book is The Old Man and the Sea, which was
written by the American writer Ernest Hemingway. This book tells
about a fisherman fighting against sharks that want to eat the fish.
The reason why I like this book most is that I was moved by the
fisherman when I read it. That's because the fisherman never gives
up no matter what difficulties he meets. I still remember the well-
known sentence,“Man is not made for defeat.” It tells us that nothing
seems terrible as long as we have a strong will and a brave heart.
From the book, I have a deep understanding of human nature
and beliefs.
