参考范文:
"You don't look happy, Marc. What's wrong?" she said. Hopeless and helpless, he turned to look at Lily
and told her the bet between him and Huck. “I am eager to revise math, but I don't know where to start and how to
do”, he sighed. “Don't worry. I will help you with the exam.” Lily comforted him. The following days, Marc
worked very hard. Every time he wanted to give up, he would think of the bet. Having prepared for the exam for a
few days, his confidence grew and he could solve the math problems easily.
On the day of the exam, Marc went to school with great confidence. He met Huck in the classroom, who
looked delighted, as if he was bound to win. The exam started and Marc answered all the questions carefully.
Several days later, the result came out. A strong sense of excitement overwhelmed Marc as he knew he beat Huck
with a high mark. Relieved and delighted, he called his sister immediately, expressing his joy and gratitude. It was
this unique experience that made Marc realize “Nothing is impossible for a willing heart.”

In my early teens, I was once given a film camera as a gift. On receiving it, I jumped on my bike,
headed to Wimbledon Common and took photos, just for me: photos of trees and wildlife. I was out
all day. On my way home I spotted a tree lit up by street lighting and tried to capture its beauty.
Rushing home, I put the spent film in a special little envelope and sent it off to a photography store,
desperate to see how it would come out. I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you
processed your film you got back color photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging
the hobby and the payments for processing.
As I grew into adulthood, that simple, deep happiness gradually faded away. One weekend when
I was busy answering the work calls, my eyes caught a box in the corner of the room. I suddenly felt a
sense of sadness. The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow
to the box in the corner. I thought I needed a change.
I took out the camera and dusted it down. It was a great joy that it still worked. I bought new film
and took the camera everywhere I went. Now it is always on hand to accompany me on journeys, to
allow me time to myself. Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take
photos, to observe the world around me.
The wall of my room now holds all my camera equipment on display, along with photos I ’ve
taken. To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of
myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment
that allows opportunities for delight.

A. More fun in the daily routine. B. New journeys in the wild.
C. Better skills of observation. D. Different styles of photography.
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. Revisiting Lost Childhood Memories B. Appreciating Beauty in Daily Life
C. Escaping Teenage Sadness with Camera D. Regaining Pleasure Through Photography

If you ever wondered what your child’s drawings might reveal, keep on reading.
Imagine how you would feel when looking at Earth from outer space. That feeling of awe (敬
畏) is what we call the Overview Effect, a feeling most astronauts report when they return to Earth,
described as a transformative experience that changes their view of our planet and humanity— an
experience that builds a sense of unity, interconnectedness, and responsibility for Earth’s well - being.
Recently, 40,000 children experienced a virtual reality (VR) space journey, beco ming a unique
group to experience this awesome feeling without leaving Earth.
To find out whether they had experienced the Overview Effect, we asked 100 children from this
special group to draw self- images before and after the VR journey. In previous studies on adults, we
found after viewing a video to bring about the Overview Effect, participants tended to draw a
smaller self. Obviously, going through the experience of awe and wonder makes one feel smaller,
with a smaller drawing as the result. However, when we applied this method to children, we
encountered unexpected results. The size of their drawings remained unchanged after the VR
experience. This discrepancy led us to question: Were drawings by children simply not a good way
to measure the Overview Effect? Did what worked for adults simply not work for children?
Upon closer analysis, we discovered that the key to measuring transformative experiences in
children lies not in the size of their drawings but in the richness of their content. Before the VR
journey, the children’s drawings were simple, often showing familiar elements from their daily lives.
After the journey, their drawings became far more insightful, filled with vivid descriptions showing
what they had learned during the VR journey — for example, the Earth’s ecology. This discovery
gave us a new way to understand children’s responses to transformative experiences.
I’m not suggesting that we replace tests in schools with children’s drawings. But when it comes
to transformative experiences, I’d recommend paying more attention to what children actually draw.
28. How can we describe the Overview Effect?
A. It expresses man’s view of Earth and humanity.
B. It helps people get deeper insights into the world.
C. It brings about awesome feelings of the outer space.
D. It is a transformative experience unique to astronauts.
29. What does the underlined word “discrepancy” mean in paragraph 3?
A. Problem. B. Progress. C. Doubt. D. Difference.
30. How did the children’s drawings change after the VR journey?
A. The self-image became larger. B. They described more details.
C. There were more familiar elements. D. They expressed richer emotions.
31. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To suggest a way of measuring children’s learning.
B. To compare adults’ and children’s Overview Effect.
C. To describe the psychological experience of space travels.
D. To analyze the role of VR technology in child education.

Each year, the world loses about 10 million hectares of forest — an area about the size of
Iceland because of cutting down trees. At that rate, some scientists predict the world’s forests could
disappear in 100 to 200 years. To handle it, now researchers at Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT) have pioneered a technique to generate wood- like plant materials in a lab. This
makes it possible to “grow” a wooden product without cutting down trees.
In the lab, the researchers first take cells from the leaves of a young plant. These cells are
cultured in liquid medium for two days, then moved to another medium which contains nutrients
and two different hormones (激素). By adjusting the hormone levels, the researchers can adjust the
physical and mechanical qualities of the cells. Next, the researchers use a 3D printer to shape the
cell-based material, and let the shaped material grow in the dark for three months. Finally, the
researchers dehydrate (使脱水) the material, and then evaluate its qualities.
They found that lower hormone levels lead to plant materials with more rounded, open cells of
lower density (密度), while higher hormone levels contribute to the growth of plant materials with
smaller but denser cell structures. Lower or higher density of cell structures makes the plant
materials softer or harder, helping the materials grow with different wood- like characteristics.
What’s more, it’s to be noted that the research process is about 100 times faster than the time it
takes for a tree to grow up!
Research of this kind is ground-breaking. “This work demonstrates the great power of a
technology,” says lead researcher, Jeffrey Berenstain. “The real opportunity here is to be at its best
with what you use and how you use it. This technology can be used to meet the requirements you
give about shapes, sizes, rigidity, and forms. It enables us to ‘grow’ any wooden product in a way
that traditional agricultural methods can’t achieve.”
32. Why do researchers at MIT conduct the research?
A. To grow more trees. B. To protect plant diversity.
C. To reduce tree losses. D. To predict forest disappearance.
33. What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about the lab research?
A. Its theoretical basis. B. Its key process.
C. Its scientific evidence. D. Its usual difficulties.
34. What does the finding suggest about the plant materials?
A. The hormone levels affect their hardness.
B. They are better than naturally grown plants.
C. Their cells shapes mainly rely on their density.
D. Their growth speed determines their characteristics.
35. Why is the research ground-breaking according to Berenstain?
A. It innovates the way to make wooden products.
B. It uses new biological materials in lab experiments.
C. It challenges traditional scientific theories in forestry.
D. It has a significant impact on worldwide plant growth.

How to Find Your Purpose in Life
Many people are living life without knowing what they want out of life. They live life not for
themselves, but because of work and survival needs. When you are not living a purposeful life and
you have no idea what you are meant to do in this world, you will feel lost. 36
One of the easiest ways is to listen to what life is telling you. To discover your life, you must learn
to listen to it. 37 The better you understand yourself, the more you can align (使一致) your
purpose and live a meaningful life.
Another method is through exploration and discovery. 38 And this is why most people
are not living their life’s purpose. It doesn’t matter if you try out something and fail in it. What matters
most is that you try out new things to see if they are what you are looking for.
Sometimes, to find your purpose in life, you need to start with your strengths. 39 Your
strengths give you a clear sign of the kind of life you might want to live. Your strengths are what drive
your inner motivation.
40 If you are unclear about what makes you happy, just take a piece of paper and list
down every possible activity and thing that makes you happy. Relate the things that make you happy
to the purpose of your life.
A. What comes easy to you?
B. So how do you find your purpose in life?
C. Finding and living a purposeful life is difficult.
D. Find out what makes you most happy and joyful in life.
E. Most people don’t dare to do things that will change their lives.
F. Spend time understanding your feelings emotions, and mastering yourself.
G. If you’ re good at one thing and you love doing it, then, by all means, pursue it in life.

It was exam time at Marc’s school Every day, their teachers gave them loads of homework and
told them the test was very important and that they ought to spare no effort to perform well in it.
Everyone followed the teachers’ instructions and made preparations for it, except Marc. He just
turned a deaf ear to it. He thought he would rather play football than study.
His mum and dad repeated the importance of revision for exams over and over again. They
told him that he should be working hard preparing for the test. But the weather was sunny and he
thought he had better things to do.

play football and kick around.” Huck shook his head. “I'm supposed to review my lessons,” he said.
“I’m going home to do some math.”
Marc was amazed. “You’d rather do math than play football?” “Math is important. Besides, my
mum says she will buy me a mountain bike if I do well in the math exam.”
“That’s crazy”, said Marc. Huck shrugged(耸肩) and replied, “Wait until I beat you in the test
and you will watch me riding past on my mountain bike!”
“You won’t beat me,” said Marc.
“Oh yes, I will.” “Oh no, you won’t! That will never happen. Just wait and see!” For the first time
ever, Marc wanted to perform well. He couldn’t bear it if his friend came top and he did badly. So
when he got home, he opened his math book. But there was so much to do. All of a sudden, he felt
like he’d forgotten everything he had learned that year! He didn’t know where to start. When his
