games are designed for kids aged 8+ to develop spatial awareness, planning, and reasoning. With 60
challenges (beginner to expert), this award-winning game can be enjoyed by all the family. The expert

A Texas woman says that she took two kittens (小猫) into her home, only to discover that they were
not housecats.
Jane Dinscore, her sister and her niece were bitten on the hands while trying to feed them.
“I think they started doing a little bit more research and thinking. These don’t look like standard
housecats. Maybe we should call somebody. Thankfully, they did.” San Antonio Animal Care Services
(ACS) spokeswoman Lisa Norwood told local TV station KENS 5 on Monday.
But Jane Dinscore has changed her story since the news broke on Monday. Originally, she told the
authorities she found the kittens in an alleyway (小巷) in San Antonio. Now she says she received the
kittens from her brother, James Dinscore, in rural Atascosa County. However, she maintains that she
believed the kittens were pet cats. She says she took the kittens home and called ACS after they began
biting her and her relatives. She says she lied at first about their origin in the interest of her brother.
ACS and Texas State Parks and Wildlife are working together to determine if the situation deserves
any criminal charges for disturbing wildlife, according to USA Today.
The animals are now under the care of Wildlife Rescue Rehabilitation in San Antonio. The group
hopes to eventually release the bobcats in a safe area.
In general, wild animals should be left in the wild. If you suspect a problem with a wild animal or
believe you have found one that’s sick, injured or abandoned, call a local wildlife center or animal
control organization. And if you believe an animal you’ve found is a lost pet, you may take it to an
animal shelter or a rescue group.
24.What happened to Jane Dinscore?
A.She was attacked by her kittens.
B.She was interviewed by KENS 5.
C.She was accused of disturbing wildlife.
D.She was forced to live in Atascosa County.
25.Why did Jane Dinscore tell a lie at first?
A.She was sure her kittens were housecats.
B.She was told to keep everything a secret.
C.She was unwilling to cause her brother trouble.
D.She was afraid her kittens would be taken away.
26.How will Wildlife Rescue Rehabilitation in San Antonio deal with the bobcats?
A.Set them free in the wild. B.Send them to a pet shelter.
C.Help them find their mother. D.Raise them until they are adopted.
27.What’s the function of the last paragraph according to the writer?
A.To arouse curiosity. B.To invite comments.
C.To make predictions. D.To provide suggestions.

In 1973,when Melissa Greene was in 6th grade, her parents bought the first apartment on
Hutchinson Island on the southeastern Atlantic coast. The first time she and her siblings ran down to the

wild shore, they were shocked by the seashells there. Every tide left a wrack line of seashells. Today, on
the same stretch of beach, she rarely finds the large, undamaged shells that were common in her
childhood. “It's a shocking difference,” she says,“what you don't see any more are the deep piles of
whole shells, quarter-sized and above, and the largest shells that we saw for years."
Among the most admirable natural objects throughout human history, seashells contain both the
surprise and wonder still promised by a trip to the beach and the profound changes underway on our
coasts. Some of the largest and best-known marine mollusks(软体动物)have declined under fishing
pressure. They are also harmed by rising ocean temperatures and acidifying waters and by other
pollution. They can be reduced by the severe erosion--a persistent problem on Hutchinson Island.
With beaches seeing record tourism numbers, more people can mean fewer shells. “It is not as much
individual collecting as the many ramifications of massive tourism,” says the paleo-biologist Michal
Kowalewski at the Florida Museum of Natural History. “Mass tourism means more boats, more beach
maintenance, more machinery, all contributing to changes in shorelines.”
Over twenty years ago, Sanibel became the first city in the U.S. to ban the practice of collecting and
killing mollusks for their shells. Delaware's state parks are among increasing numbers of state and
national parks taking so-called low-impact beachcombing a step further: Asking visitors to leave empty
shells alone, too. At Delaware Seashore State Park, signs advise visitors to “Leave shells where they lay
or snap a photo of a marine critter in the sand. After all, the point of enjoying nature is because it is in a
natural state”.
28.Why is the story of Melissa Greene mentioned in the first paragraph?
A.To introduce readers to an Atlantic coast.
B.To share Melissa's attitude towards shells.
C.To show an ocean village's development.
D.To lead in the topic of seashells' disappearance.
29.How does the author state the reasons for the great decline of mollusks?
A.By comparing different conclusions.
B.By collecting the supporting data.
C.By listing the related factors.
D.By quoting the opinions of experts.
30.What does the underlined word ramifications in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Consequences. B.Industries. C.Branches. D.Benefits.
31.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The common phenomenon of shell collecting.
B.Different measures taken to protect the seashells.
C.Future anticipation of seashells' condition.
D.The effectiveness of bans on seashells' development.

Tesla’s self-driving cars have recently come under investigation as a report on crashes raises
questions about their safety. Despite Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s claim that their Autopilot capability makes
their cars “extremely safer,” data suggests otherwise.
According to The Washington Post, the number of deaths and serious injuries associated with
Tesla’s driver-assistance technology is higher than previously reported. The National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration (NHTSA) recorded 736 crashes since 2019, with at least 17 of them being fatal.
These figures include crashes involving both Autopilot, which allows cars to drive on highways without
human intervention(干预 ), and the newer Full Self-Driving feature, which extends automation to city
streets. However, these statistics can’t record incidents that were avoided due to the cars’ safety features.
Additionally, when compared to the total number of car crashes that occurred last year, the number of
crashes involving driver-assistance vehicles appears relatively small, but actually it’s not.
Tesla’s safety claims lack context as Autopilot is primarily designed for highways, while most
accidents occur in more complex environments with cross-traffic, pedestrians, and cyclists. Moreover,
Tesla’s customer base consists mainly of wealthier individuals who live in communities with lower
accident rates.
Concerns are raised by Tesla’s request to the NHTSA not to reveal whether Autopilot or Full
Self-Driving was in use during fatal crashes. This lack of transparency (透明) prevents a comprehensive
analysis of the incidents and raises questions about responsibility.
Safety exaggerations combined with Tesla’s aggressive marketing have led to accidents caused by
drivers relying too heavily on the system. Full Self-Driving does not allow the car to fully drive itself,
and drivers are expected to remain attentive and ready to intervene at all times. However, Tesla’s
messaging may mislead some users into believing otherwise.
While a driverless future has the potential to be safer, it is crucial not to convince the public that
underdeveloped capabilities are ready for widespread use. Tesla should address past problems, ensure
their automation set can detect(检测) emergency vehicles, and be transparent with the public about the
limitations of their technology.
32.What can we learn about Tesla’s driver-assistance-related crashes?
A.736 fatal cases of self-driving are recorded.
B.NHTSA focused on the crashes on highways.
C.The total number of car crashes is extremely small.
D.The incidents avoided are not counted in the crash statistics.
33.What can be inferred about Tesla’s safety claims?
A.They are supported by comprehensive data.
B.They are based on limited driving environment.
C.They are restricted to the experiences of satisfied customers.
D.They have been proven to be accurate and reliable by NHTSA.
34.What can we know about Full Self-Driving?
A.It is ill-received. B.It is well-developed.
C.It needs the driver to stay focused. D.It reduces the accidents greatly.
35.Which title best summarizes the content of this text?
A.Concerns and Questions Surrounding Tesla’s “Self-Driving” Cars
B.Tesla’s Self-Driving Cars: The Safest Option of Driving on the Road
C.The Future of Self-Driving Cars: A Closer Look at Tesla’s Technology
D.Reconstruction and Revolution of Tesla’s Autopilot and Full Self-Driving

When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest, I said
no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second
language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my
paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed
harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply:“Because I
love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged
by his words, I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠 ) in Boston who
rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming.
My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny, and unlikely to be
anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want
to quit? I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I
kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I
checked out a half-dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud and said,“Great. Now, write
it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had
given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn't win, I wouldn't care.
注意:1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news.
I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation.

故填that/which。
and连接并列成分,前面是名词self-discovery,所以这里也用名词形式growth,“a journey of self-discovery and growth”表示“一段自我发现和成长的旅程”,故填growth。
故填a。
be sure to do sth.

A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. I still remember it was a Monday morning in spring, when my teacher called me to his office, telling me that I had taken first place in the writing contest, and that I was the only winner whose native language wasn't English. Dominated by an overwhelming sense of excitement and pride at his words, I simply stood there dumbfounded, and my feet, as if rooted to the ground, couldn't move a bit. The next day, I was presented with my award and a certificate at the ceremony.
I went to my teacher's office after the award presentation. With a broad smile spreading on his face, he told me that he was proud of my wonderful performance. It was at that moment that a warm surge of streams washed through my body, and the image of the horse emerged in my mind, encouraging me to continue writing. Indeed, I got a taste of victory and learned to pursue my dream with perseverance, whatever difficulties might arise.
(Text 1)
W: So, how is your German class going, John?
M: Well, not bad. The pronunciation is fine with me, and its vocabulary is similar to English. But I’m finding the grammar awful.
W: Well, it takes a while to get it right.
(Text 2)
W: I hope you can come to the party on Saturday.
M: I didn’t know I was invited.
W: Sure you are. Everyone in our office is invited.
(Text 3)
W: May I help you?
M: Yes. When is the next train to London?
W: Oh, let me check. It leaves in twenty minutes.
M: One ticket, please.
(Text 4)
W: Charlie, do you know a restaurant called Bravo?
M: Bravo … I know the name. But I’m not sure where it is.
W: It’s on George Street. The food there is excellent.
(Text 5)
W: Brian, I just had an interview. They said they would make a decision soon.
M: What are your chances of getting the job?
W: Quite good. I think the interview went very well.
(Text 6)
M: Let’s go kite flying, Judy. It’s such a lovely day.
W: Okay, but let me finish my chemistry homework first. Would you mind waiting for half an hour, Max? There are a few sports magazines on the table.
M: Isn’t the chemistry homework due next Wednesday?
W: Yeah, but I have a full day of classes on Monday and a birthday party to attend on Tuesday.
M: All right, then. You go ahead, and I’ll catch up on some sports news while waiting.
(Text 7)
W: We’ve been on the computer all the time lately. Why don’t we do something different Sunday afternoon?
M: Well, we could go to a concert.
W: But I don’t think we can get the tickets this late.
M: Then what about playing a computer game? There’s a really cool new one we could download.
W: Hmm, I don’t know. I feel like I need to do some exercise. We could probably just walk by the lake, and I’ll ask Mike to join us.
M: That sounds like fun. Let’s do it!
(Text 8)
W: Welcome to our program, Dr. Peterson. Let’s see what questions we’ve got for you today. Here’s one: Can cats see color?
M: Sort of. In the wild, many cats hunt at night because their eyes are designed for low light. Your cat can’t see bright colors such as red and green. But it picks up more shades of blue, yellow, and grey than humans do.
W: And why do cats give dead birds to their owners?
M: When your cat drops a dead bird at your feet, she isn’t bringing you a present. Most cats just drag food home because it’s a safe place to eat. A cat’s mom also brings home things to her children to help them practice hunting. So, a female cat without children may bring these “treats” to her owner instead. You may not like them, but at least you don’t have to write her a thank-you note.
(Text 9)
W: How is little Ed doing at the kindergarten, Jack?
M: Oh, he’s doing fairly well. It’s been three weeks since he first started going, so Macy and I are pretty used to it now. You should have seen Macy cry when Ed was about to set off on the first day, though.
W: I think that’s a normal reaction for mothers. You live quite close to the kindergarten, don’t you? How does he get there?
M: Macy walks there with him every morning unless the weather is bad. When it rains, they’ll drive.
W: And is Ed enjoying kindergarten?
M: Yeah, he loves to have other kids to play with. He keeps telling us things they do together.
W: What do the teachers at the kindergarten say about him?
M: They said he’s bright, and that he’s starting to learn how to tell time. Isn’t that fantastic?
W: That is fantastic. It sounds like everything goes well.
(Text 10)
W: My name is Emily. I had been a dancer for quite a long time. I started studying ballet when I was six years old. By the time I was nine, I was dancing five days a week. When I was eighteen, I decided that I really preferred contemporary dance and that I wanted to do it professionally. So I applied successfully for the training program at the School of Toronto Dance Theater, and moved to Toronto to attend the program. That was the period of time I enjoyed most in Toronto. I graduated on scholarship and danced professionally for ten years. But after all those years, I found that dance was gradually becoming something that felt like more of a burden than a joy. I found myself increasingly unwilling to drag myself to dance performances, so I quit. I do miss dance often. But it makes me happy to think that I’ll never have to go to another training session again.
