B Lena is a psychologist (心理医生) working in a high school. She is devoted to helping students who are struggling with mental health issues. Her days are filled with counseling (咨询) sessions and organizing workshops to educate students about mental health. One day, a student named Sarah came to Lena for help. Sarah had been feeling anxious about her schoolwork. Lena listened carefully to Sarah’s concerns and asked her questions to better understand her situation. Lena then developed a personalized plan for Sarah including relaxation techniques, time management strategies, and a referral to a support group. Over the next few weeks, Lena worked closely with Sarah, meeting regularly to discuss her progress and adjust the plan as needed. Sarah gradually felt more in control of her emotions and her schoolwork. She even started to participate in extracurricular activities and make new friends. Lena’s work doesn’t stop at the school gates. Beyond the school, Lena leads community activities. She organizes monthly “Mind Matters” talks at the local library, where she explains mental health through easy-to-understand stories and fun activities. During lockdowns, her online support groups became really important connections for lonely teens, making her known as a kind guide who links adolescents and the resources they can get. What makes Lena do all this? Memories of her brother having a hard time with depression without saying anything, a personal experience of feeling really tired during training that taught her how important it is to take care of herself, and the many moments when students get their confidence back. To her, every counseling session gives a chance to change how society thinks turning silent struggles into open talks and helping those facing life’s challenges become stronger. She believes that by raising awareness and breaking down shame, she can help create a more supportive and understanding environment for everyone. 4. Why did Sarah come to Lena? A. She was feeling stressed out. B. She was flooded by her housework. C. She was suffering physical disease. D. She was defeated by boring courses. 5. What can we learn from this passage? A. Sarah seldom took control of her emotions and her schoolwork. B. With the help of Lena, Sarah could change herself for the better. C. Lena’s work only stops at the school gates and the result is fantastic. D. Lena organizes annually “Mind Matters” talks at the local library. 6. What does Lena think of her job? A. Significant. B. Tiresome. C. Demanding. D. Depressing. 7. Which of the following can best describe Lena? A. Talented and calm. B. Organized and selfless. C. Responsible and experienced. D. Determined and brave. C Greenhouse gas emissions would rise if all farms in England and Wales went organic. Though the emissions of each farm would go down, much more food would have to be imported, as the amount they would produce would decrease greatly. “The key message from my perspective is that you can't really have your cake and eat it,” says Laurence Smith, now at the Royal Agricultural University in the UK, who was part of the team that ran the numbers. Smith is a supporter of organic farming and says “there are a lot of advantages of the organic approach”, but his analysis shows that organic farming has downsides too. Farming and changes in land use, such as cutting down forests, are responsible for a third of all greenhouse gas emissions. That means reducing farming emissions and the land needed for farming is required to limit further global warming. Smith and his colleagues found that emissions per unit of food are, on average, 20 per cent lower for organic crops and 4 per cent lower for organic animal products. However, organic harvests per hectare (公顷) are also lower on average. For wheat and barley, for instance, harvests are just half of those of traditional farms. This means 1.5 times as much land would be needed to grow the same amount of these foods. The estimated increase in emissions varies greatly, depending on where the extra farmland comes from. If only half comes from turning grassland into farms, the increase could be as low as 20 per cent. If grassland that would otherwise have been reforested is turned into farmland, emissions could nearly double. This doesn't necessarily mean people should stop eating organic produce, says Smith. People might choose organic food for other reasons, such as to reduce their pesticide exposure (though contrary to popular belief, organic farmers do use pesticides) or for the sake of wildlife. Smith says the best choice may be to use some organic and traditional farming methods at the same time. 8. Why may greenhouse gas emissions increase if a country goes organic? A. Organic farms take longer to build. B. The agricultural output will increase greatly. C. The emissions of each farm unit will increase. D. Greater demand for imported food will be created. 9. What does the underlined word “downsides” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Changes. B. Challenges. C. Disadvantages. D. Differences. 10. What did Smith and his colleagues find? A. Organic harvests per unit are greater than traditional harvests. B. Organic farming needs more farmland to feed a country. C. Global warming could be brought under control. D. Land was not used in a responsible way. 11. What is Smith's suggestion? A. Stopping using pesticides. B. Eating less organic produce. C. Going back to traditional farming. D. Adopting mixed farming methods. D Dopamine (多巴胺) is often considered as the source of pleasure. But that’s not quite what it does. Dopamine is what makes us desire things. And it’s that desire that gives us the motivation to get up and do things. In fact, your brain considers something more important than others mainly depending on how much dopamine it’s expecting to get. If an activity releases a lot of dopamine, you’ll be motivated to repeat it, over and over. So which behavior releases dopamine? Any activity where you expect there’s a possible reward releases it. And in today’s digital society we are flooding our brains with unnaturally high amounts of dopamine on a daily basis, even if we don’t know it. Some examples of high dopamine behavior include: visiting social media websites, playing video games, etc. And you might think, “Oh so what? It’s not like it’s harming me in any way.” But you’d be wrong. Our bodies have a biologically balanced system. Whenever an imbalance occurs, our body adapts to it. Basically, your brain gets used to having high levels of dopamine and those levels become your new normal. Thus, you develop a dopamine tolerance. This can be a huge problem because the things that don’t give you as much dopamine don’t interest you any longer. That’s why people tend to prefer playing video games or surfing the Internet, compared to studying or working on their business. But it is possible to make doing difficult things feel easier. Separate yourself from the unnaturally high amounts of dopamine, or at least expose yourself to it far less frequently. Only then will normal, everyday, low dopamine activities become exciting again and you’ll be able to do them for longer. That’s why you might want to limit your phone and computer usage, along with other high dopamine-releasing behavior. We are all dopamine addicts to a certain extent. And that’s a good thing because dopamine motivates us to achieve our goals and improve ourselves. But it’s up to you to decide where you’re going to get your dopamine. 12. When is dopamine released? A. When tough things come into being. B. When we are encouraged to do things. C. When we take pleasure in the behavior. D. When possible rewards can be obtained. 13. What can we learn from the passage? A. Dopamine does great harm to our body. B. It’s difficult for our body to keep the balance. C. Video games produce more dopamine than study. D. Dopamine tolerance keeps us away from social media. 14. What is the purpose of the fifth paragraph? A. To explain why dopamine is harmful. B. To introduce the effects of dopamine. C. To stress the importance of dopamine. D. To offer solutions to dopamine tolerance. 15. What is the author’s attitude toward dopamine? A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Concerned. D. Negative. Roommate Harmony: The Art of Peaceful Co-Living Sharing the space you live in with anyone can be rewarding, but it can also be challenging, especially when it is with someone who has a different background. Emily stood in the hallway, her backpack hung over one shoulder, her eyes downcast. She had just returned from a meeting with her art teacher, who had praised her work and encouraged her to consider a career in art. Excitement arose within her, but she knew what awaited her at home would be far from enthusiastic support. The living room, with its neatly arranged old furniture and family pictures on the walls, showing an atmosphere of tradition and order. It was a contrast to the colorful chaos that Emily’s art studio had become, where canvases (画布) in various stages of completion leaned against the walls and paintbrushes lay on the table. The thought of sharing her dreams with her parents filled her with a mix of anticipation and fear, as she knew their expectations for her future were firmly rooted in more conventional paths. It was a freezing evening when Emily arrived home, her shoulders dropped and her eyes red from crying. She had just had a huge argument with her parents over her decision to pursue art instead of medicine. They didn’t understand her passion and saw it as a waste of time. Emily stormed into her room, keeping the door shut. The following days passed in silence. Emily barely spoke to her parents, eating her meals in her room and avoiding any eye contact. Her mother, noticing the tension, felt a knot (纠结) in her stomach. One day, Emily decided to focus on her art. She began to work on a new painting. It was a landscape, inspired by a place she had visited with her grandparents when she was younger. She recalled the vivid colors of the sunset and the way the trees waved gently in the wind. As she worked, Emily lost herself in the creativity. She mixed the colors carefully, applying them to the canvas with brushstrokes. The painting was a way for her to express her emotions and her love for nature. Observing her from a distance, her parents began to understand her passion. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ One night, her parents knocked gently on the door of Emily’s room. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 奋斗中学2024-2025学年第二学期英语期中考试 高二英语 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话,选出最佳选项。 1.What did the woman forget to take during the trip? She even started to participate in extracurricular activities and make new friends.(在接下来的几个星期里,Lena和Sarah密切合作,定期开会讨论她的进展,并根据需要调整计划。 根据最后一段中的“She believes that by raising awareness and breaking down shame, she can help create a more supportive and understanding environment for everyone.(她相信,通过提高意识和打破耻辱感,她可以帮助为每个人创造一个更加支持和理解的环境。)” 故选A。 根据倒数第二段“Lena’s work doesn’t stop at the school gates. Beyond the school, Lena leads community activities. She organizes monthly “Mind Matters” talks at the local library, where she explains mental health through easy-to-understand stories and fun activities. During lockdowns, her online support groups became really important connections for lonely teens, making her known as a kind guide who links adolescents and the resources they can get.(Lena的工作并不止于学校大门之内。 和最后一段中的“To her, every counseling session gives a chance to change how society thinks turning silent struggles into open talks and helping those facing life’s challenges become stronger. She believes that by raising awareness and breaking down shame, she can help create a more supportive and understanding environment for everyone.(对她来说,每一次咨询会议都是改变社会对心理健康看法的一个机会,将无声的挣扎转化为公开的对话,帮助那些面对生活挑战的人变得更坚强。 C。 C Greenhouse gas emissions would rise if all farms in England and Wales went organic. A Organic harvests per unit are greater than traditional harvests. D 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第一段“Greenhouse gas emissions would rise if all farms in England and Wales went organic. Though the emissions of each farm would go down, much more food would have to be imported, as the amount they would produce would decrease greatly. 根据第二段“‘there are a lot of advantages of the organic approach’,but his analysis shows that organic farming has downsides too.” 根据第四段“However, organic harvests per hectare (公顷) are also lower on average. For wheat and barley, for instance, harvests are just half of those of conventional farms. This means 1.5 times as much land would be needed to grow the same amount of these foods.” 根据最后一段“Smith says the best option may be to use some organic and conventional farming methods at the same time.” D Dopamine (多巴胺) is often considered as the source of pleasure. And in today’s digital society, we are flooding our brains with unnaturally high amounts of dopamine on a daily basis, even if we don’t know it. We are all dopamine addicts to a certain extent And that’s a good thing because dopamine motivates us to achieve our goals and improve ourselves. A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Concerned. D. Negative. D 13. C 14. D 15. 根据第二段中“So which behavior releases dopamine? Any activity where you expect there’s a possible reward releases it.(那么哪种行为会释放多巴胺呢? 根据第四段中“This can be a huge problem because the things that don’t give you as much dopamine don’t interest you any longer. That’s why people tend to prefer playing video games or surfing the Internet, compared to studying or working on their business.(这可能是一个巨大的问题,因为那些没有给你那么多多巴胺的东西不再让你感兴趣了。 根据第四段中“ Basically, your brain gets used to having high levels of dopamine and those levels become your new normal. Thus, you develop a dopamine tolerance. 同时根据第五段中“Separate yourself from the unnaturally high amounts of dopamine, or at least expose yourself to it far less frequently. Only then will normal, everyday, low dopamine activities become exciting again and you’ll be able to do them for longer. 根据第一段中“Dopamine (多巴胺) is often considered as the source of pleasure. But that’s not quite what it does. Dopamine is what makes us desire things. 以及倒数第三段中“Thus, you develop a dopamine tolerance. This can be a huge problem because the things that don’t give you as much dopamine don’t interest you any longer. That’s why people tend to prefer playing video games or surfing the Internet, compared to studying or working on their business.( 因此,你会产生多巴胺耐受性。 以及最后一段中“We are all dopamine addicts to a certain extent. And that’s a good thing because dopamine motivates us to achieve our goals and improve ourselves. But it’s up to you to decide where you’re going to get your dopamine.(在某种程度上,我们都是多巴胺成瘾者。 Roommate Harmony: The Art of Peaceful Co-Living Sharing the space you live in with anyone can be rewarding, but it can also be challenging, especially when it is with someone who has a different background. Emily stormed into her room keeping the door shut. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Observing her from a distance, her parents began to understand her passion. This was not just a hobby, but a true calling. They started to reflect on their own views of art. Her father recalled how, as a child, he had been drawn to the vivid paintings. Her mother, on the other hand, had always seen art as something difficult. But as they watched Emily work, they felt a growing sense of pride and an urge to communicate. One night, her parents knocked gently on the door of Emily’s room. Unwillingly, Emily opened the door. Her father said sincerely, “I saw your drawings, and I’ve come to understand your dreams.” Emily’s eyes widened in surprise. Emily’s mother expressed her concerns about the uncertainty of an art career. Emily said, with tears in her eyes, “I understand, but art is not just a hobby for me. It’s what makes me feel alive.” Her mother held her hand, saying, “We see how passionate you are, honey. We have decided to support your dreams. ”Emily embraced her parents, feeling a great sense of gratitude and love. 词汇激活 行为类 ①交流:communicate /interact ②反思:reflect/rethink ③决定:decide/determine ④拥抱:embrace/hug 情绪类 ①热情的:passionate/enthusiastic ②感激:gratitude/appreciation 【点睛】[高分句型1] But as they watched Emily work, they felt a growing sense of pride and an urge to communicate.
