Where There Is a Will There Is a Way.
Dear teachers and students,
As a saying goes, “Where there is a will there is a way.” At first, I couldn't understand it. After a special experience, I have a better understanding of it now.
Last year, I faced a challenging math competition. At first, the problems seemed impossible to solve, and I felt like giving up. However, I reminded myself of this saying and decided to keep trying. I spent countless hours practicing, asking for help, and trying out different ideas. Slowly but surely, I began to see progress.
On the day of the competition, I felt nervous but determined. To my surprise, I solved most of the problems and even won a prize. This experience taught me that with determination and effort, even the most difficult tasks can be finished.
In conclusion, this saying is not just a phrase but a powerful reminder that not giving up and having a strong will can lead to success. No matter how difficult the journey is, believing in yourself and staying committed will always pave the way to success.

Reading and writing Chinese characters is often considered the biggest challenge that language learners face. Indeed, the process which has shaped this character system(体系) is both difficult and long.
Maybe they feel unable to understand character systems at first. Actually, Chinese characters are made up of different parts. If you know the structure of Chinese characters, it will soon be easier for you to read and write. Read the following and continue along your journey to learn Chinese characters.
Unlike the English letters, Chinese characters are used to show meaning rather than sound. In fact, most characters were firstly used as visual descriptions of things like trees, houses or humans. Their earliest forms, known as character radicals(偏旁), are the basis for written Chinese. In addition to Chinese pinyin, radicals are important for anyone who wants to read or write well.
When two or more radicals are connected, they work together to create a single character. The radical on the left shows the character’s type or meaning, while the radical on the right might show its pronunciation. Most of the written Chinese language is made up of character compounds(复合词), in which several characters are connected to make one word.
An important rule is that characters are written according to a proper stroke order(笔画顺序), which typically moves from left to right, top to bottom and outside to inside.
Although Chinese characters may seem difficult at first, having a basic understanding of them may help a lot. So, review your radicals, know about the most widely used Chinese characters, and watch as your Chinese skills grow quickly!

School uniforms were invented in the 16th century in the UK. Over time, they became a sign of belonging and pride in your school. Lots of students wear smart uniforms to school, but Summerhill School in England lets its pupils wear an “active uniform”. This includes sports clothes and sports shoes. Now there are different attitudes towards this.
Yes—pupils should be comfortable
A UK-wide survey found that 51% of seven-year-olds thought wearing a uniform was uncomfortable. If pupils are in discomfort, how can they focus on learning? Also, a relaxed uniform makes it easier for children to move around and be energetic, and exercise is great for physical and mental health. Plus, changing into a PE kit (装备) takes up lesson time, and some people feel embarrassed about changing in front of others. Besides, surely it doesn't matter what uniforms look like—after all, school isn't a fashion show. It's what pupils can do in their clothes that counts, as long as they can focus on learning, be active and happy, that's all that matters.
No— ▲
Wearing sports clothes to school might sound fun but wouldn't you feel better knowing you look smart and tidy, ready for class? Anyway, you can still run around and have fun in school uniform. One of the main reasons that schools have smart uniforms is that it helps pupils to take pride in themselves and their school. Also, having to wear tidy clothes is a good way to learn self-discipline, an important life skill that means doing things you know you should, even when you don't want to. It might not be fun tucking(塞进) in your shirt and making sure your shoes are shiny but it prepares you for work and life. It's better to dress smartly at school and save your relaxed clothes for after lessons.
What do you think? Should uniforms be more relaxed?
( )16. Why do some people think pupils should get dressed comfortably?
A. Because it makes pupils feel embarrassed.
B. Because it can help pupils get better scores.
C. Because it makes pupils look more fashionable.
D. Because it’s convenient to move around and exercise.
( )17. What can be the missing part in “ ▲ ”?
A. being smart is important
B. being ready to be active comes first
C. wearing sports clothes sounds very fun
D. wearing uniforms can’t help pupils learn
( )18. What does the underlined word “self-discipline” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. I value myself. B. I love myself.
C. I feel proud of myself. D. I am strict with myself.
( )19. Which of the following sentences is NOT true?
A. Most of 7-year-olds in the UK find it uncomfortable to wear a uniform.

D. Some students think it’s a waste of time changing into a PE kit before class.
