Abby felt worried when mom told her she had to get braces to help her teeth grow straight.
After lunch, when students were playing basketball, Abby was so distracted by her worries that she didn't even notice the ball flying fast toward her.
“Ow,” she cried as the ball hit her in the face.
“I'm so sorry,” said Tara. “I thought you saw it coming.”
Abby rubbed her jaw. “It's OK. My mouth is going to be hurting like crazy soon anyway.”
“How come?” Tara asked.
“I have to get braces next week,” Abby said, “I'm so worried. I can't concentrate on anything else.”
“What's stressing you out about getting braces?” Tara asked.
“EVERYTHING!” Abby exclaimed.
“If you write down the exact things you' re worried about, maybe you can actually do something about them. I' ll help you make a list.” Tara said.

The only thing that no one could agree on was the best color for rubber bands on braces.

Have you ever been on a plane and felt that sudden bump(碰撞), causing your stomach to drop? That's turbulence, and it's a normal part of air travel. Turbulence can be scary, but understanding what causes it and how to deal with it can help ease your fears.
Turbulence can be caused by three things: mountains, jet streams, and storms. Air forms waves when it meets with mountains. These “mountain waves” can break up into many disorderly currents(气流), which we experience as turbulence. Jet streams, fast moving currents high above the earth, can also cause turbulence. Storms are the most common cause. The fast growth of storm clouds pushes air away, creating waves that can turn into turbulence. Each of these can cause“clear air turbulence”, or CAT, the least noticeable type. It's hard to predict, and it can happen suddenly.
Part of the nervousness around turbulence is the fear of the aircraft failing. It's a natural reaction, especially when you' ve had the experience of watching a wing bend in a seemingly impossible way. “Everything on wing bending a plane has been tested. In fact, a little wing bending during turbulence is a good thing, as it shows the plane is able to deal with the stress,” explains Marilyn Smith, an engineer at Georgia Tech.
If you are a nervous flyer, there are a few ways to plan for and deal with turbulence during the flight.
“Turbulence is worse at the back of the plane and it's usually the most serious in the mid-afternoon,” says Heather Poole, a flight attendant for 21 years. “So, try to book a morning flight and sit at the front of the plane.”“Keep your seat fastened at all times,” Poole adds. She also suggests just talking to your flight crew(机组成员) if you are feeling nervous, as they can check on you and offer support.
“The fear mostly comes from losing a sense of control,” Poole says. “If you learn more about how turbulence happens and what you can do, you will feel better.”
23. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Turbulence is very common during an air travel.
B. Jet streams cause turbulence because of the growth of clouds.
C It's easy for people to notice“clear air turbulence”.
D. Wing bending in turbulence is a sign of the arcraft failing.
24. According to the passage, you can feel less scared of turbulence by .
A. keeping watching a wing bend
B. trying to take a morning flight if possible
C. asking other passengers for support
D. booking your seat at the back of the plane
25. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A. Turbulence: Its Relation to Weather Conditions
B. Turbulence: Its Risk to Flight Safety
C. Is It Possible to Get Away from Turbulence?
D. Is It Necessary to Fear Turbulence?

Once there was a very popular song called Which Do you Prefer, Crying or Smiling? It is common that people always think crying is a sign of sadness. But it is not always the truth. When babies are hungry, they will cry to show their feelings and get tasty food. Then babies feel like being on cloud nine and of course stop crying.
We also know that many people may think crying is a bad thing and it may be bad for their health. However, in fact, sometimes it is healthy to have some tears. According to the studies, some health problems have something to do with not crying enough. Sometimes people need to cry more because it helps them to get well.
Different cultures have different ideas about crying. The people in Indonesia think that crying— unless done by a person who has lost a close friend— is unhealthy and that it can cause health problems. In some other cultures, people usually cry together when they are afraid of something and in times of sadness.
People have been studying crying for a long time and here are two interesting studies about crying.
A study of 5,000 people in 35 countries made by Professor Ad Vingerhoets found that women usually cried between 30 and 64 times a year while men usually cried 6 to 17 times a year. Vingerhocts thinks that women's higher prolactin levels(催乳素水平) may cause women to cry more. Prolactin levels are especially higher when women are having babies.
Besides that, according to another study, when 150 women were watching the film SteelMagnolias, scientists found 22 percent of them cried and the others didn't. Those who cried felt more sadness for a long time. The study said crying can make people sadder, and it took people longer to get well.
Crying may make people feel better only if it helps with their problems. Studies show comfort from a friend does make people feel that crying is a good idea. So next time you don't feel good, you can talk with your friend and cry out to make yourself feel better. Try to have a good cry!
26. The underlined words“feel like being on cloud nine” in Paragraph 1 are closest in meaning to“ .”
A. feel very great B. feel quite scared
C. feel really hopeful D. feel truly tired
27. Why does Professor Ad Vingerhocts talk about prolactin levels in his study?
A. To show how women have babies.
B. To explain why women cry more.
C. To introduce the reason for the study.
D. To stress the importance of the study.
28. The writer probably agrees that .
A. most people prefer crying to smiling in daily life
B. people may cry more after watching a sad movie
C. one can stop crying quickly whenever he wants
D. people may feel better after having a good cry
