When I first arrived at the camp, I was excited but also nervous. I knew that I had to follow the rules of the game and work with my teammates but I was worried that I wouldn’t be good enough. On the first day of practice, our coach Mr. Zhang, gathered us together and said, “Basketball is not just about scoring points. It’s about teamwork, respect, and perseverance (坚持). If you follow these rules, you will learn much more than just how to play the game.” I nodded, but I wasn’t sure what he meant. During the practices, I struggled. Sometimes I would miss easy shots or make mistakes when passing the ball. I felt worried and thought about giving up. But then I remembered what Mr. Zhang had said about perseverance. I decided to keep trying and to learn from my mistakes. One day, we had a practice game against another team. I was nervous, but I tried to stay focused. In the first half, we were losing badly. I could see that some of my teammates were getting discouraged. But then, something changed. We started to work together better. We passed the ball more and fought as a team. Slowly, we began to catch up. In the last minute of the game, I got the ball. I looked around and saw that my teammate, Li Ming, was open. I passed the ball to him, and he made a great shot. We won the game by just one point. After the game, Mr. Zhang smiled and said, “See? When you work together and never give up, you can achieve great things.” That day, I learned an important lesson. Basketball taught me that success is not just about winning or losing. It’s about how you play the game, how you treat your teammates, and how you face challenges. These lessons are not just for basketball; they are for life. 29. Why did the writer join the basketball camp? A. He wanted to make friends. B. He was good at playing basketball. C. Why, then, do some people like them but others don’t? A new study has found that other people’s likes and dislikes could play a part. According to the research, watching someone eating vegetables and visibly (明显地) disliking them could put you off them a bit too. A team from the U. K. set out to study how the facial expressions that people make as they eat affect a person watching them. They asked more than 200 women to watch videos of other adults eating broccoli. The people in the videos would have different expressions while eating. They would smile, look neutral (neither happy nor sad) or look disgusted (厌恶的) by what they were tasting. The study found that watching people react with disgust to the broccoli reduced how much the women liked it. However, a positive facial expression didn’t make them like broccoli more. People learn which behaviors are good for them by watching the reactions of others. This is known as social modeling, and it is a strong influence on people’s eating habits. Scientists believe that seeing others react to food helps us decide what to eat. For example, if something looks gross (令人恶心的), we may not want it because it could be bad for us. Although the research only focused on adults, experts think the results could also apply to children. If children see their family not liking certain foods, like vegetables, they may not want to eat them either. In another study, kids aged four to six were more likely to eat broccoli if they saw adults enjoying it in videos. The team hopes to understand more about how the behavior of adults influences children’s enjoyment of food. This could help experts find ways to encourage young people to eat more of the foods that are healthy for them. 32. What happened when people saw someone reacting with disgust to broccoli? A. They liked broccoli more. B. They disliked broccoli more. C. They didn’t care about broccoli. D. They didn’t change their feelings about broccoli. 33. What is “social modeling” when it comes to eating habits? A. Learning from how others react. B. Watching some cooking shows. C. Making food together with friends. D. Eating the food that famous people like. 34. What is the best title of the passage? A. How adults decide what children eat. B. Why some people dislike vegetables. C. You shouldn’t have to go far to find them. Start by being your own friend. What does self-love mean? Self-love means being as kind to yourself as you are to others. Imagine your best friend is worried or sad, then think about how you’d support them and try to make them feel better. Self-love means giving yourself the love, care and respect you might give your friends and family. An expert called Becky Goddard-Hill says, “Self-love means valuing yourself at all times. It’s speaking to yourself with kindness and encouragement, and it means taking really good care of your body and mind.” Why does it matter? Learning to love who you are develops your self-esteem (how you feel about yourself). This makes you believe in yourself and feel that you deserve (值得) good things—such as kind friends and fun experiences. It doesn’t mean you’ll be happy all the time, but when you do face challenges, they’ll be easier to overcome. Studies show that self-love can help friendships, schoolwork and health. Love yourself better. Start by being kind, especially if you make a mistake. Instead of being angry, tell yourself that everyone gets things wrong sometimes. Then work out what you could do differently next time. Try not to compare yourself to others and remember that no one is perfect. Focus on yourself instead. Goddard-Hill suggests writing down your strengths and asking your family and friends for their thoughts. “Keep the list somewhere safe and look at it often to remind yourself you are amazing,” she says. Before you go to bed, think about three things that went well for you that day. “This will help you see the positives (积极的方面) in your life,” says Goddard-Hill. Positive self-talk. Goddard-Hill advises saying something nice to yourself three times every morning to encourage yourself. Here are some ideas. • I can do this. • I like who I am. • I am a good friend. Take time out for you. Spend 15 minutes a day giving yourself the attention you deserve, starting with: • Playing with your pet. • Reading a book in bed. • Going for a walk or bike ride. • Listening to your favorite music. 35. A. it makes your self-esteem stronger B. it makes you feel happy all the time C. it makes you compare yourself to others D. it means you have to be perfect all the time 36. In the future, there will be more jobs where AI knowledge is required. Even in daily life, people may need to understand things like Deepseek to make their work and life easier. (二) 阅读下列短文,根据短文内容,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选择最佳选项。 B Last summer, I joined a basketball camp in my town. I had always loved playing basketball with my friends, but I really wanted to play in a real competition, so I signed up for the camp. One day we had a practice game against another team. C. He wanted to play in a real competition. D. He wanted to learn basketball rules and skills. 30. How did the writer feel during the practice? A. Happy. B. Relaxed. C. Excited. D. Worried. 31. What lesson did the writer learn from the basketball game? A Every rule matters if you want to win a game. B. Teamwork weighs much more than scoring points. C. Winning is the most important thing in basketball matches. D. Success is about how you play the game and face challenges. C We all know that eating vegetables is good for us. C. How facial expressions affect food preferences. D. Why social modeling encourages healthy habits. D Learn to Love Who You Are Expect to be treated with kindness, respect and love from a good friend? Spend 15 minutes a day giving yourself the attention you deserve, starting with: • Playing with your pet • Reading a book in bed. • Going for a walk or bike ride. • Listening to your favorite music. 35. Learning to love who you are matters a lot because ________. A. it makes your self-esteem stronger B. it makes you feel happy all the time C. it makes you compare yourself to others D. it means you have to be perfect all the time 36. According to the passage, which is a good way to take time out for yourself? A. Watching TV all day. B. Talking to friends for hours. C. Helping your friends with their problems. D. Playing with your pet dog for 15 minutes. 37. The writer probably agrees that ________. A. self-love is only about speaking kindly to yourself B. being kind to yourself can help you face challenges more easily C. spending time alone is more important than spending time with others D. making and learning from mistakes is a good way to improve yourself 38. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing the passage? A. To explain how to make new friends. B. To teach us how to improve our friendship. C. To encourage us to love and value ourselves. D.
