A lot of people play sports, but very few people become sports professionals (专业人员). If sports aren’t going to be your future, then why should you play them? Why should you train every day? Why should you work hard and feel sore the next day? Wouldn’t it be better to forget sports and only pay attention to your lessons?
There are actually a lot of good reasons to play sports. First of all, sports are a great way to exercise. Exercising keeps you healthy and strong. It also helps you stay in a good state. When you exercise ,your body produces endorphins (内啡肽). Endorphins give you more energy and make you feel happier.
Sports are important for everyone, but they are especially important for young people. They teach young people about winning and losing. Also, they teach young people how to communicate and work as a team. For example, when you play football, you must learn how to communicate with your teammates and work together. Sports teach young people to respect their coaches, teammates, and people they fight against as well.
Many reports say that sports help young people stay out of trouble. If a young person plays sports, he or she is less likely to have problems. This is because sports teach people about rules. They also teach people that if they work hard, they might succeed.
Another good way of sports is that they make people leave their houses. These days, a lot of people spend too much time watching television and playing video games. When you play sports, you go outside and exercise in the sun. You take in fresh air. All of these things are important.
You’re probably not going to become a sports professional, but that doesn’t matter. Sports will help you become a better and happier person. Sports will help you make friends and stay healthy. Here is another good reason to play sports: Sports are fun.

From the fall of 2022, primary schools started to have labor education (劳动教育). Now, in many primary schools, students have cooking classes. Some think that it is a useful skill for students, while others think it’s a waste of time.
Actually, cooking provides students chances to learn subjects from practical application (应用). When preparing different kinds of ingredients from different places for cooking, students are connected to the world and learning history and culture in a new way. When cooking, students measure (称量) materials from time to time, or find that oil and water don’t usually mix. Students are also learning maths and science in practice.
Apart from knowledge, cooking helps students build their characters. It encourages kids to work with others. It also encourages them to be open to failures. Li Mei, a 12-year-old girl, was crazy about the yummy cakes and wanted to make one on her own. But when baking the cake for the first time, she was frustrated (沮丧的) to find that the cake was really hard and black at the bottom. After trying over and over again, Li Mei finally solved the problem and succeeded in making one yummy cake. Li Mei learned from her failure of cooking and became braver to face failures. She learnt that the importance of facing failures in making food is as much as successes.
In a word, by cooking, students put down their phones and work together with family members in the kitchen. What’s more, students form the habit of doing labor work. As a part of labor education, cooking is a way to teach kids some vital skills in 21st century. If these skills aren’t taught to today’s students, they might hardly live a happy life in the future.
30. According to the passage, what cannot students learn from cooking?
A. Art B. Science C. Maths D. History.
31. The example of Li Mei tells us that _______.
A. cooking can help people avoid failure B. there is no failure without success
C. failure is as important as success D. cooking can make people braver
32. What does the underlined word “vital” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Creative. B. Difficult. C. Simple. D. Necessary.
33. Why does the writer probably write this passage?
A. To tell students that cooking is a waste of time.
B. To explain why cooking can help students to be braver.
C. To encourage students to learn cooking.
D. To teach students how to make a living by cooking.

A Young Cheese Maker
16-year-old Pat Tulloch has an unusual hobby. She makes cheese on the family farm in Australia. She began it by making yoghurt with her mother when she was little. Then she started watching her father’s workers make cheese. When she was ten, she made some cheese herself for the first time. “It wasn’t great in the beginning,” she says, “but the workers told me where I had gone wrong and how to improve it. I tried hard day and night, and I slowly got better.”
Pat always needs good milk for her cheese, but she doesn’t have to buy it. Her parents keep about 100 cows on their farm. Pat can just ask them when she needs more. Last year, Pat’s neighbour gave her a young cow to keep and look after, but it doesn’t produce milk to make cheese yet.
Pat helped her family create many kinds of cheese. This year they won a prize for one of them. “Last month we started selling cheese in New Zealand. People there read about our prize in a food magazine. Soon we’re going to do some advertisements (广告), too.”
Pat’s next idea is to post some recipes (烹饪法) for cooking with cheese on the Internet such as having cheese with eggs for breakfast. She also thinks that people can eat cheese with pasta (意大利面食). “I hope a restaurant might buy some one day”, she says. But right now Pat is still at school. “Making cheeses is fun and winning a prize for it is great, but doing well in my studies is more important now.”

What experience can you share about kindness?
What did you learn from this experience?
I’m glad to share my experience about kindness.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】例文:
I’m glad to share my experience about kindness. Last winter I noticed a classmate struggling with math after school. Though we weren’t close, I offered to help her solve the problems. We spent hours practicing together, and her smile gradually returned. Her words-“Thank you for not giving up on me”-truly cheered me up.
This experience made me realise how powerful small acts of kindness can be. A little support can light up someone’s day and even change their confidence. Now I actively look for ways to be helpful, because kindness isn’t just an action—it’s a chain that connects hearts. As Hugo said, “kindness truly is the sunshine of the soul.”
