As we drove along the county road, a group of deer showed up as if by magic, surrounding us from all sides. I shouted at my husband to slow down and avoid hitting them. But it was too late. We saw a deer lying injured by the roadside, with its eyes wide open. While some deer run away, a few remained at a safe distance, watching the scene.
“I have to call the police,” my husband said. As we waited for help, a nearby farmer came out of his house, angrily shouting instructions. I told him that we had already called the police. He stood at his doorway, arms crossed, watching us. I know he wanted to make sure we didn’t leave the scene.
I suggested calling a 24-hour veterinarian (兽医) clinic, but before doing so, I noticed a slight movement in the deer’s back leg. We watched as she struggled to rise. After several minutes, she managed to stand. She turned her head to look at us, and then leapt gracefully toward the forest.
I raced after her until she disappeared into the forest. Tears ran down my face a mix of joy that she could run again and fear for her survival. I walked back to the car just as the police arrived. Our “security guard” returned to his house, satisfied that his role was complete.
After listening to what happened, the police praised us for remaining at the scene. They told us that deer are resilient (有适应力的) creatures and that she would survive.
The following day, we revisited the scene. The area showed no signs of blood. I discovered a piece of our car’s plastic bumper with the deer’s fur attached to it. I picked it up and took it home.
It was a relief (宽慰) that not only we had given it our all trying to save her but also the “security guard” and police showed their care about her in their own way. She is such a lovely creature after all. Whenever I see a deer walking through the forest along our country road, I wonder if it was our deer from that summer evening.

A drove away the deer. B. slowed down to avoid hurting them.

37. How did the author feel when the injured deer stood up and disappeared into the forest?
A. Sad and frustrated. B. Relieved but a little upset.
C. Surprised and satisfied. D. Happy but a little worried.
38. What does the author probably want to tell us through her experience?
A. It’s important to drive safely on country road.
B. You have to make up for your own mistakes.
C. It’s our responsibility to take care of animals.
D. Kindness can always make a big difference.

Inaccurate information has been around for years. But AI is making it easier, faster and cheaper to spread unreliable (不可靠的) information. AI-made pictures, videos or information that pretend to be those of real people are known as deepfakes
A 2022 study in Vision Research showed that people could generally tell the difference between pictures of real faces and faces made with a model from early 2019. But participants had trouble spotting realistic fake faces made by more advanced AI about a year later. In fact, people’s later assessments (评估) were no better than guesses.
Photos and videos used to be proof that some event happened. But with AI deepfakes floating around online. that’s no longer true. Experts worry that liars may blame the unbeneficial information on the result of technology, so no information becomes trustworthy. “It makes it hard to hold people responsible for what they say or do”, says Nelson, a sociologist in Princeton, N.J.
Researchers are working on ways to spot AI fakery. So far, though, there’s no surefire fix. Sarwar was part of a team that tested several AI-detection (检测) tools. Each tool generally did a good job at spotting AI-made texts if those texts were similar to what the tool had seen in training. The tools did not perform as well when researchers showed them texts that had been made with other AI models. The problem is that for any detection tool, “you cannot possibly train it on all possible texts,” Sarwar explains.
Researchers will continue to improve tools to spot AI-produced files. Meanwhile, some people will keep working on ways to help AI escape detection. And AI will get even better at producing realistic material. It’s kind of an arms race.
Education is of the best ways to avoid being taken in by AI fakery. People have to know that we are often targeted by fakes. When you see news, images or even audio, try to take it in as if it could be true or false. Then try to evaluate its reliability.
Be careful where you look for information, too. Always seek medical information from reliable health sources, such as your doctor. And be careful about online sources — especially social media and AI chatbots. Check out the authors and their backgrounds. See who runs and funds websites. Always see if you can confirm the “facts” somewhere else.
Nelson hopes that today’s kids and teens will help slow AI’s spread of fake information. “My hope,” she says, “is that this generation will be better equipped to look at text and video images and ask the right questions.”
39. Why does the writer mention the study in Paragraph 2?
A. To prove AI is making it harder to tell truth from fakery.
B. To show AI is better than human in making assessments.
C. To show AI deepfakes are floating around on the Internet.
D. To prove AI is making it faster to spread fake information.
40. The writer probably agrees that ________.
A. Tools to spot AI fakery can help people avoid being taken in by AI fakery.
B. It is important for teenagers to look for information from plenty of sources.
C. AI deepfakes make it hard to hold people responsible for what they say.
D. Education is the best way to help people understand what is true or false.
41. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To compare the new generation’s different ways to handle AI fakery.
B. To discuss the influence of deepfake pictures, videos and information.
C. To prove the importance of education in beating Artificial Intelligence.
D. To warn people to be critical about the information we see, hear or read.
D
Growing up, Roberto S. Luciani realized his brain worked differently than most people’s. He heard people talking about how they pictured what a character from a book should look like, but he couldn’t understand what they meant.
He has a condition called aphantasia (心盲症). This is an inability to picture objects, people and scenes in ones mind. Now he studies the condition as a cognitive scientist at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. He and other scientists are getting a clearer picture of how some brains work. Their study centers on those with a blind mind’s eve.
In the study Luciani and colleagues explored how our senses interact. In this case, they focused on hearing and seeing. In most people’s brains, these two senses work together. Sound information affects activity in brain areas that process vision. But in people with aphantasia, this connection isn’t as strong.
The researchers asked people to lie in a brain scanner, blindfolded. The volunteers listened to three sound scenes: a forest full of birds, a crowd of people and a street bustling with traffic. In 10 people without aphantasia, these sounds kicked off activity in the brain’s visual (视觉的) system. It was as if the sounds led them to form a mental image. But in 23 people with aphantasia, these patterns were weaker.
The results show that senses can be linked within the brain to different degrees, says Lars Muckli. He’s also a cognitive scientist at the University of Glasgow. At one end of the range (范围) are people with synesthesia, he says. In this condition, sounds and sights are tightly blended together. For instance, someone might hear music as shapes or associate (联想) letter sounds with certain colors. “In the midrange, you experience the mind’s eye.” Muckli says. Perhaps sounds trigger (激发) images in your mind, even though you know the pictures aren’t real. “Then you have aphantasia,” Muckli says. “Sounds don’t trigger any visual experience, not even a slight one.”
The study results help explain how brains of people with and without aphantasia differ, Muckli says. They also give clues about how our brains work in general. “The senses of the brain are more interconnected than our textbooks tell us.”
The findings also highlight how people can make sense of the world in very different ways. Aphantasia “is an unseen difference between people that makes our personal experiences unique, without us realizing,” Luzuriaga says. “I find it fascinating that there may be other differences we don’t notice when we think everyone experiences the world the same way we do.”
42. What does the words “those with a blind mind’s eye” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. People who don’t know how their senses interact in brain.
B. People who can’t picture their visual experiences in mind.
C. People who have little willingness to create inner imagery.
D. People who think they are weak in their senses of seeing.
43. How was the study carried out?
A. The volunteers’ brain activities were compared when they listened to sound scenes.
B. The volunteers were asked to draw pictures blindfolded according to what they hear.
C. The volunteers answered questions about three sound scenes and took visual tests.
D. The volunteers watched videos of different scenes while their reactions were recorded.
44. What can we learn from the passage?
A. The sense of hearing and seeing work together in people with aphantasia.
B. Sounds and sights are tightly mixed together in people with synesthesia.
C. You can experience the mind’s eye when sounds trigger no image at all.
D. The senses of the brain are interconnected just as our textbooks tell us.
45. What might be the best title of the passage?
A. What is the difference between different mental images?
B. How does our brain form a mental image differently?
C. Why do some people not have a mind’s eye?
D. How can people make sense of the world?
九、阅读与表达(第62-64每题2分,第65题4分,共10分)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Recently, a three-year-long “Weight Management Campaign (活动)” has been really popular. It is a positive response to the global public health problem caused by obesity (肥胖) and chronic diseases (慢性疾病). The campaign aims to lead healthy lifestyles and prevent chronic diseases.
As citizens flood social media with healthy recipes and fitness training, this campaign stresses individual responsibility and self-management, as showed by the story of Liu Caizhen, a 65-year-old woman who overcame health challenges through a balanced diet and regular exercise.
Liu told the reporter that she had once been troubled by poor physical condition, so she decided to start a journey of self-health management. To improve her health, she not only took exercise regularly, but also paid more attention to healthy diet.
Liu followed the principle of light seasoning, high fiber and easy digestibility (消化). She also used healthy cooking methods such as steaming, boiling and stir-frying to improve her condition.
“This not only kept the natural flavors of the ingredients but also made it easier for our body to take in nutrients,” Liu said, whose method has led to significant improvements in her overall health condition.
The government has used a variety of creative methods to make the campaign more engaging and attractive. It published the “2024 adult obesity dietary guidelines”, which offers practical dietary advice tailored to (定制的) different regions, taking into consideration local food preferences and nutritional needs. For example, the spring menu for Northeast China includes dishes like iron pot stewed fish and vegetable wraps, completed with detailed energy content.
In addition, the development of WeChat stickers and AI-driven dietary apps has further promoted the campaign, helping the general public know more about healthy living.
By engaging the entire population and building social consensus (共识) China is providing a “Chinese approach” for chronic disease prevention and control in other countries and regions around the world.

In the study, Luciani and colleagues explored how our senses interact.

As citizens flood social media with healthy recipes and fitness training this campaign stresses individual responsibility and self-management, as showed by the story of Liu Caizhen, a 65-year-old woman who overcame health challenges through a balanced diet and regular exercise.
Liu told the reporter that she had once been troubled by poor physical condition, so she decided to start a journey of self-health management. To improve her health, she not only took exercise regularly, but also paid more attention to healthy diet.
Liu followed the principle of light seasoning high fiber and easy digestibility (消化).
By engaging the entire population and building social consensus (共识), China is providing a “Chinese approach” for chronic disease prevention and control in other countries and regions around the world.
