We all know how to enjoy our food. However, have you thought of what happens after a dish has been served to the diner? The ideal (理想的) picture would be this: the chef sees his hard work being rewarded (回报) when the plates are empty after the meal. Sadly, things are not like that. You can see unfinished food on plates left on the tables almost every day.
My dear students, this is not good. It shows that little thought has been put in stopping food wastage (浪费).
Let’s learn from a chef in a Japanese restaurant who says that he will always respect (尊重) the fish he cooks. Why? Simply because he knows the dangers which the fisherman always faces in order to bring the fish to him. Therefore, by not wasting any part of the fish, and by cooking excellently every time, the chef is respecting the fisherman’s work.
Similarly, we should respect our food more. Just think of the poor and homeless who have not eaten for days because of a war or a natural disaster. Think. Wouldn’t it be good if we shared our food, instead of throwing away what we can’t finish?
Now, the Environmental Club would like our students to help people in need. Instead of buying lots of food you might not be able to finish, buy a small amount; you can also take food from home. Give some of your pocket money to the Club so we could buy some food or biscuits to give to the needy; or, you could give some of these food to the Club if you have any at home.
So, I hope to see every one of you playing your part to stop food wastage. Respect your food and share the joy of living well through giving food to those in need.
27 Why does the writer tell us the story of the chef in the Japanese restaurant?
A. Because the chef was a fisherman in the past. B. Because the chef is famous for cooking fish.
C. Because he wants us to learn from the chef. D. Because he wants us to go to the restaurant.
28. What does Paragraph 5 mainly talk about?
A. What students can do for people in need. B. What kind of food students should buy.
C. Ways to get some pocket money. D. Ideas on cooking meals at home.
29. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Start a Food Club B. Respect Our Food C. Share with Others D. Enjoy Every Meal
D
Teens (青少年) will have a duty on caring for the environment. However, according to a new study, teens’ low interest in nature may be something we should worry about.
The study finds that teenagers’ interest in nature wanes. Researchers asked 1,269 students, ages 8 to 14, to take part in an online survey across four weeks in March 2017. The questions were designed to help researchers tell how much the kids’ interest is in nature. The findings show that for children ages 8 to 11, one out of two felt very close to nature. However, in the older age group, only one in five felt the same closeness.
How did this happen? Natural reasons, such as the beginning of puberty (青春期) and hormonal changes, could lad to teens’ changing interests. Experts note other reasons could include teens’ activities, such as spots and spending time with friends, which could take more of teens’ attention. And of course, computers and technology also take their attention.
The effects (影响) of nature on our health are too many to be told. The findings said that spending time in parks forests and other green spaces as a child lowered the risk (降低风险) of developing a number of heath problems. Kids’ interest in nature is not just good for themselves, but to others, and the world as a whole.
So it is important to help kids keep an interest in nature. There are many ways that parents can play a part. You can encourage kids to spend time outdoors doing fun activities or visit places that focus on the beauty of nature. You can also set an example for your teens. Recycling and volunteering to help clean up the community show that you are interested in protecting the environment, and that will influence (影响) teens as well.
30. What does the underlined word “wanes” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Goes up. B. Gets larger. C. Stays fixed. D. Becomes weaker.
31. What can you learn from Paragraph 3?
A. Computers take most of teens’ attention.
B. Teens spend too much time doing sports.
C. Natural reasons could change teens’ interest in nature.
D. Teens’ activities are the main reason for their problems.
32. Paragraph 4 mainly talks about ________.
A. the ideas about nature protection B. the effects of nature on the world
C. what places are important for health D. why kids’ interest in nature is helpful
33. Why does the writer write this passage?
A. To tell kids some ways to solve natural problems.
B. To advise parents to help teens keep an interest in nature.
C. To ask teachers to help students protect the environment.
D. To encourage children to learn more about the environment.

Let’s Celebrate (庆祝)
For most kids the best thing for their birthday is having a birthday party. But thousands of children never celebrate their birthday. Thanks to Paige Chenault and her Birthday Party Project, that is changing in the U.S.A.
Every month, the Birthday Party Project holds birthday parties for the homeless kids. For some kids, it is the first birthday party they have had.
The Birthday Party Project wanted to make every kid feel special (特别的). “Everyone is special,” Paige said. So she started the Birthday Party Project in 2012 and the group’s first celebration was at a homeless shelter (避难所) in Texas.
Today, the Birthday Party Project holds about 50 monthly parties in cities around the county. Nearly 10,000 kids have celebrated their birthday. Dipson, 8, is one of those kids. He lives in a homeless shelter in Minnesota. At a party in March, he and other kids played games and ate cakes. They also opened gifts. “It was very fun.” he said.
The Birthday Party Project has held parties for years. Kids always look forward to (盼望) them. “Mary people come to the party,” Paige said. “It brings the whole place together.”
There are many ways you can help other kids feel celebrated. Join the Birthday Party Project and visit the homeless shelters. Raise (筹集) money by holding sales of old clothes and other activities. Give gifts to a homeless shelter. Make birthday cards for kids living in difficult places. Everyone can join in!

The findings said that spending time in parks, forests and other green spaces as a child lowered the risk (降低风险) of developing a number of heath problems.

The Birthday Party Project has held parties for years. Kids always look forward to (盼望) them. “Mary people come to the party,” Paige said. “It brings the whole place together.”
