Snakes are special creatures in China. For over 100 million years, snakes have lived on Earth, even before humans existed. In Chinese stories, they are called “little dragons” because they are brave, wise, and strong.
In ancient tales, snakes are magical helpers. People believed they could bring good luck and protect homes from harm. A famous story, The Legend of the White Snake, tells of a kind snake spirit who helps humans with her wisdom. For example, she once saved a village from a terrible flood by using her magic powers. Snakes also appear in festivals like the Spring Festival, symbolizing happiness, growth, and new beginnings. During this festival, families hang snake decorations on doors to scare away bad luck and welcome good fortune.
Snakes shed their skin every few weeks. This reminds people of growth and hope, just like how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly. In Chinese art, snakes are often drawn with flowers or trees to show the connection between nature and life. Long ago, artists drew snakes with cicadas (insects that also shed skin) to teach about life’s cycle of renewal. This tradition continues today in some rural areas, where people believe snake patterns can protect farms from drought.
Today, the Year of the Snake teaches us to respect nature’s wisdom. Snakes remind us that even small creatures can teach us big lessons. By studying snakes, we learn to protect the environment and live in harmony with all living things. Let’s celebrate this year by learning from their courage and protecting our planet!
32. What do snake decorations symbolize during the Spring Festival?
A. Keep away bad luck and bring good fortune. B. Show snake wisdom and harmony in stories.
C. Teach that snakes only exist in old stories. D. Protect farms from harm and dangers.

A. Scientists focus on snake behavior studies. B. Snake symbols are mainly in old stories.

As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes part of our daily lives, it is changing education in positive ways. Instead of replacing teachers, AI works like a helpful assistant. It makes learning more customized, creative, and welcoming to all students. For example, AI can adjust math problems to fit a student’s level or create online labs for students in faraway areas, removing obstacles to education. These changes help every student access good resources and reach their potential.
AI also pushes students to solve real-world problems. Instead of just memorizing facts, learners use AI tools to tackle issues like designing eco-friendly cities or studying local data. By handling repetitive tasks like grading, AI gives teachers more time to inspire creativity and teamwork. For instance, students might work with AI to analyze pollution levels and suggest solutions, mixing technology with environmental care. AI-powered apps can also turn grammar exercises into fun games, making learning exciting. In art classes, AI helps students try digital painting or create music, encouraging new forms of creativity.
Additionally, AI connects students globally. Through AI platforms, learners worldwide can team up, share ideas, and solve problems together. For example, students from different regions might use AI simulations to design sustainable farming plans. Such projects teach teamwork and cross-cultural understanding, preparing young people for a connected world.
However, with these benefits come responsibilities. Schools must teach students to use AI wisely—asking questions like, “Is this tool reliable?” or “How can I protect privacy?” Imagine a student creating an AI chatbot to help classmates learn sign language. This project combines coding skills with empathy, showing how technology supports inclusion. Students also learn to check AI results critically, ensuring fairness and accuracy.
The future of education will mix human skills with AI’s abilities. Students will learn coding, data analysis, critical thinking, teamwork, and ethical decisions. By using AI as a partner, learners can build a fairer, more innovative world while valuing kindness and responsibility. Whether designing apps for seniors or studying climate change with AI models, today’s youth are creating a brighter future.
35. What does “customized” mean in the sentence “It makes learning more customized”?
A. Made for a specific person. B. Controlled by some teachers.
C. Taught in a traditional way. D. Focused on memorizing facts
36. What do students do with AI tools in real-world challenges?
A. Write letters using AI tools. B. Solve eco-city design tasks.
C. Memorize textbook facts daily. D. Analyze science project data.
37. What does the author think about AI in education?
A. AI makes education less creative. B. AI is only for science classes.
C. AI should replace all teachers. D. AI supports learning effectively.
38. What is the main purpose of this article?
A. To explain AI’s role in fair education. B. To list AI tools for student learning.
C. To warn about AI’s dangers in schools. D. To argue against using AI in classrooms.

Jane, a 12-year-old exchange student in Hunan, never imagined a school festival could reach her so much about China. “At first, I thought the Dragon Boat Festival was just about eating zongzi,” she said. “But now, I see it’s a bridge between history and modern life!”
A Day of Immersive Experiences
During the festival, Jane joined two activities:
Sachets for Health (香囊)
In the art room, Jane filled cloth bags with mugwort (艾草) and lavender (薰衣草). “These guard against illness,” Ms. Li explained. Jane also learned that classroom decorations of mugwort and calamus (菖蒲) symbolized ancient Chinese wisdom to ward off sickness.
Zongzi Tasting
In the school kitchen, Jane learned to wrap zongzi by stuffing glutinous ice and pork into bamboo leaves. As she folded the leaves, her teacher explained: “Northern zongzi are sweet with red bean paste because northern China grows more beans, and sweet fillings last longer in cold winters.” Ms. Li added, “Southern zongzi use salty pork because the warm climate supports pig farming. Soy sauce and spices balance the saltiness.” Jane realized the difference wasn’t random—it was shaped by China’s geography and resources!
Sharing China’s Story
In a video call, Jane showed her family zongzi: “Sweet red bean symbolizes happiness, while salty pork represents prosperity.” She also explained dragon boat races united people like families.
Jane’s Promise
Boarding her flight home, Jane whispered: “Zongzi aren’t just rice dumplings—they’re symbols of Chinese culture. I’ll share the history and culture behind them with my friends!”

33. What is the main idea of the third paragraph?
A. Snakes are so feared for their poison. B. Snakes help farmers grow some crops.
C. Snakes’ skin—shedding means new life. D. Snakes only live in ancient times.
34. What is the main message of the passage?
A. Scientists focus on snake behavior studies. B. Snake symbols are mainly in old stories.
C Snakes are dangerous and should be avoided. D. Our culture values snake wisdom and harmony.
D
36 What do students do with AI tools in real-world challenges?
