A.Once in their life. B.Three times a year. C.Twice a month. 20.Where did some people think the money will be according to the talk? A.In savings accounts. B.In computer stores. C.In shopping malls. 【答案】18.C 19.A 20.A 【原文】    Japanese children may soon have smiles on their faces and money in their pockets. Japan’s government is planning to give $880 to all children under the age of 19. Around 20 million children, from newborns to 18-year-olds, will receive the one-time payment. The new plan is part of an election promise from Japan’s newly-elected Prime Minister. He promised to help “people in need”, such as part-time workers and families with small children. Officials say the money will be given without considering the financial situation of a child's family. All children in any one family will receive the money. The plan is expected to cost around $17.6 billion. However, many people have doubts about spending so much money when Japan has so much debt. The country’s debt is currently more than twice the size of its economy. Also, some people said most of those who received it would not go out to buy high-cost items, eat in restaurants or take holidays in Japan. It is predicted that much of the money will end up in savings accounts. However, Yuki Ono, a mother of three, welcomed the plan. She said her children would be able to buy new computers. A For many people, childhood is the best time of their lives. Children’s Day is celebrated by different countries on different days of the year. It is a holiday that celebrates the happiness, healthy growth, and bright future of children. China Children’s Day is on June 1st. On this day, pupils go to school as usual, but often for only half of the day. The school day tends to involve various Children’s Day activities instead of regular classes. The celebration doesn’t end at school. After school, parents usually take their children out to play. They often celebrate by having a picnic in the park or by going to an amusement park, the cinema, or the zoo. Many tourist attractions, including the Forbidden City, have discounts on admission or are completely free for children on this day. Japan The Japanese people celebrate Children’s Day on the fifth day of the fifth month every year. Families fly colorful carp flags (鲤鱼旗) from their homes, as carps represent determination and vigor in Japanese folklore (民间传说). They display figurines of Samurai Warriors in their homes to symbolize strength and bravery. Children enjoy sticky rice cakes in Quercus dentata leaves and participate in events around the country like traditional Japanese plays. India Children’s Day is celebrated on November14 every year. This date marks the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of independent India. Nehru was very fond of children and so, to honor him and acknowledge his work for children, the 14th of every November is set as Children’s Day. On this occasion, children of India usually get gifts from their parents. Many schools allow students to attend their classes in colored dresses. Special programs are held by the children themselves. Many schools hold activities such as camping trips or free movies on Children’s Day to allow students to have fun. New Zealand In New Zealand, Children’s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of March each year. Fun community events are held throughout the country and include games, carnival, food, traditional haka dancing, and more. 21.What do Chinese do on Children’s Day? A.Pupils go to school as usual B.The celebration end at school. C.Parents usually take children out to play D.Many tourist attractions have no discounts 22.When is the Children’s Day in Japan? A.June 1st B.May 5th C.November14 D.The first Sunday of March 23.Where can you probably find the passage? 根据China部分的“After school, parents usually take their children out to play. They often celebrate by having a picnic in the park or by going to an amusement park, the cinema, or the zoo.”(放学后,父母通常会带孩子出去玩。 根据Japan部分的“The Japanese people celebrate Children’s Day on the fifth day of the fifth month every year.”(日本人每年五月的第五天庆祝儿童节。) 通读全文,尤其是根据文章第一段中的“Children’s Day is celebrated by different countries on different days of the year. (儿童节在一年中的不同日子由不同的国家庆祝。)”可知,文章介绍了不同国家的儿童节庆祝方式,可以推测这篇文章可能出现在旅游手册中。故选A。 B It was a normal day, Julia and I were working in the container checking the instruments and doing other routine operations when the phone rang. It was Ian. He wanted to know if one of us could go outside to be their polar bear guard for the next few hours. We looked at each other and it was soon decided that I would go. Julia had more work to do in the container. Obviously shooting was our last resort; there were a lot of other actions that needed to be taken beforehand in order to scare the bear away. But, if worse came to worst, we needed to be ready. The other reason for which a female “newbie” like me was allowed to guard was that I would be working at the balloon site that is the closest to the ship. This means that in case a polar bear comes we could reach the ship in just a few minutes and thus it was really unlikely that I would have to use the rifle. Being a polar bear guard is not the most exciting job out there: you have to stand in the cold, downwind from the group, from where the polar bear is likely to approach because of the smell, looking at the horizon for several hours. On the other hand, the guard job gives you a lot of time to think and reflect while staring at this breathtaking landscape. This is one of the reasons why I often volunteer to be a polar bear guard. During the last period we had several interesting observations about a big puzzle that we were trying to solve. While I was reflecting on some elements, I realized that Ian and Julia recovered the balloon, so I joined them and we headed back to the ship just in time for dinner. We stayed outside only for a couple of hours but this was enough to refresh my brain with clean Arctic air and come up with new ideas and thoughts to discuss with the other scientists on board. Similar “recreational” activities were one of the reasons for which I enjoyed so much this expedition and I will certainly miss them afterwards! 24.Why does the author guard at the balloon site? A.To admire impressive landscapes. B.To withdraw safely from here. C.To send off warning signals. D.To gather with her colleagues. 25.What does the author mention about her working place as a polar bear guard? A.It is frequently visited by polar bears. B.It is filled with various wildlife smells. C.It provides opportunities for reflection. D.It is extremely cold near the pole. 26.What does the author gain from the work shift? A.Friendship and joy. B.Confidence and courage. C.Responsibility and duty. D.Relaxation and insight. 27.What is the text most likely to be? A.A novel. B.A journal. C.A report. D.A review. 根据第二段“The other reason for which a female “newbie” like me was allowed to guard was that I would be working at the balloon site that is the closest to the ship. This means that in case a polar bear comes we could reach the ship in just a few minutes and thus it was really unlikely that I would have to use the rifle.(像我这样的女性“新手”被允许看守的另一个原因是,我将在离船最近的气球站点工作。这意味着,如果一只北极熊来了,我们可以在几分钟内到达船上,因此我真的不太可能使用步枪)”可知,作者在气球站点站岗是以便遇到危险时可以快速从那里离开,安全回到船上,即作者选择在气球站点守卫是因为该位置便于安全撤离。故选B。 25.细节理解题。根据第三段“Being a polar bear guard is not the most exciting job out there: you have to stand in the cold, downwind from the group, from where the polar bear is likely to approach because of the smell, looking at the horizon for several hours. On the other hand, the guard job gives you a lot of time to think and reflect while staring at this breathtaking landscape. This is one of the reasons why I often volunteer to be a polar bear guard.(做一名北极熊警卫并不是最令人兴奋的工作:你必须站在寒风中,站在群的下风处,站在北极熊可能会因为气味而靠近的地方,盯着地平线看几个小时。另一方面,守卫的工作给了你很多时间去思考和反思,同时凝视着这令人惊叹的风景。这也是我经常志愿做北极熊守卫的原因之一)”可知,作者提到她担任北极熊警卫的工作地点是为了说明在这里她有很多时间去反思,即提供了反思的机会。故选C。 26.细节理解题。根据最后一段“During the last period we had several interesting observations about a big puzzle that we were trying to solve. Similar “recreational” activities were one of the reasons for which I enjoyed so much this expedition and I will certainly miss them afterwards!(在最后一段时间里,我们对一个我们试图解决的大难题有了一些有趣的观察。 根据第一段中“It was a normal day, Julia and I were working in the container checking the instruments and doing other routine operations when the phone rang. It was Ian. He wanted to know if one of us could go outside to be their polar bear guard for the next few hours.(这是平常的一天,茱莉亚和我正在集装箱里检查仪器和做其他日常操作,这时电话响了。是伊恩。他想知道在接下来的几个小时里,我们中是否有人能出去做他们的北极熊守卫。) ”结合文章内容可知,文章以第一人称叙述了个人在北极科考期间的日常工作,担任北极熊警卫的经历和感受;由此可以推断出,本文最有可能是一篇日志,故选B。 C Humanity uses a little less than half the water available worldwide. Yet occurrences of shortages and droughts (干旱) are causing famine and distress in some areas, and industrial and agricultural by-products are polluting water supplies. Since the world’s population is expected to double in the next 50 years, many experts think we are on the edge of a widespread water crisis. But that doesn’t have to be the outcome. Water shortages do not have to trouble the world — if we start valuing water more than we did in the past. Just as we began to appreciate petroleum more after the 1970s oil crises, today we must start looking at water from a fresh economic perspective. We can no longer afford to consider water a virtually free resource of which we can use as much as we like in any way we want. Instead, for all uses except the domestic demand of the poor, governments should price water to reflect its actual value. This means charging a fee for the water itself as well as for the supply costs. Governments should also protect this resource by providing water in more economically and environmentally sound (健康的) ways. For example, often the cheapest way to provide irrigation water in the dry tropics is through small-scale projects, such as gathering rainfall in depressions (凹地) and pumping it to nearby cropland. No matter what steps governments take to provide water more efficiently, they must change their institutional and legal approaches to water use. Rather than spread control among hundreds or even thousands of local, regional, and national agencies that watch various aspects of water use, countries should set up central authorities to coordinate (调整) water policy. 28.What is the real cause of the potentials water crisis. A.Only half of the world’s water can be used. B.The world population is increasing faster and faster. C.Half of the world’s water resources have been seriously polluted. D.Humanity has not placed enough value on water resources. 29.As is indicated in the passage, the water problem _________ . A.is already serious in certain parts of the world. This game has not only gained great popularity within China but has also captivated international audiences, many of whom may not be familiar with the complexities of the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West”, from which the game draws its inspiration. Despite this, the game’s complex plot presents certain challenges for players who are not good at the slight differences of the source material. “Black Myth: Wukong” is a proof to the perfect integration of traditional Chinese cultural elements with modern gaming technology. The game beautifully combines Daoist talismans (护身符), Buddhist artifacts, and ancient architectural wonders, creating a visually stunning experience that draws inspiration from iconic landmarks such as the Great Wall and the splendid Mount Huangshan. The Shanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism has cleverly capitalized on the game’s popularity by releasing a promotional video that highlights real-life locations featured in the game, such as Xiaoxitian and Yuhuang Temple. This has led to a surge of cultural pilgrimages (朝圣) to these historic sites, as fans of the game seek to experience the real-world counterparts of the virtual wonders they have explored. The development team’s dedication to authenticity is evident in their careful research in Shanxi, a region that boasts (自夸) 80 percent of China’s surviving wooden structures from the Yuan Dynasty and earlier periods. This research has led to an almost exact copy of China’s breathtaking landscapes, grand temples, and delicate sculptures inside the game. This remarkable achievement not only serves as a proof to the team’s dedication to authenticity but also stands as a powerful cultural export, allowing players from around the globe to experience the richness of Chinese heritage in an immersive (沉浸式的) and interactive manner. The game’s success is a reflection of the growing influence of Chinese culture in the global gaming industry. “Black Myth: Wukong” is not just a game; it is a cultural phenomenon that bridges the gap between traditional Chinese culture and modern gaming, creating an experience that is both educational and entertaining. As the game continues to gain popularity, it is likely to attract even more players who are curious about Chinese mythology and history, further cementing its status as a global cultural icon. 32.“Black Myth: Wukong” appeals internationally mainly because of . Last week, we had a lively discussion about how to select our major after we enter the university. While 6% of students would follow their parents’ advice, 46% students believed that the choice should be based on the needs of society. Otherwise, they couldn’t find a job. However, the majority (48%) believed that personal interest should come first, since they would be bored to study what they are not interested in. The eight children dropped their bags on the tables and flopped down on the mat at the front, chatting. Eugene held up a hand and the talking stopped. “We will start with a song,” he proposed. In a couple of years, he knew the boys would no longer want to sing like this. But for now, they were happy to join in with the children in the YouTube video he would play. Eugene has been leading the French after-school club for three years after retiring from his job at a high school. Suspecting it might be an attempt to keep him active and stop him being lonely, he now looks forward to his French Club afternoons. He invented counting games and color games, and used classroom resources like blocks and puzzles to build the youngsters’ vocabulary. Eugene liked all of his young charges, but there was one little boy who stood out. Henry, a boy who was small for his age and softly spoken, picked up all that the teacher offered with apparent ease. His accent was better than anyone else’s. Eugene was careful not to single him out as a teacher’s pet, but he loved to listen to him. After some weeks, Eugene noticed that Henry was dropping in bits of French that hadn’t been taught at their club afternoons. “He must be having additional lessons elsewhere,” Eugene thought in his heart. It was Thursday and the second French Club afternoon of the week. Today, Eugene had the children make crêpes (法式薄饼) using his electric frying pan. They happily enjoyed the process and ate the crêpes as quickly as they were produced. They only stopped when it was time to pack up for home. She revealed that she was from Paris and had been teaching Henry French since he was little. “I’m so glad he enjoys coming to your club,” she added. “He says you make learning fun with all those interesting games.” Eugene felt a sense of satisfaction, realizing that his efforts had paid off not only in teaching but also in inspiring the children.       Eugene had an idea to invite Camille to pay a visit to their French club. He shared his plan with Camille, suggesting that she could teach the children some authentic French culture and songs. Camille was delighted at the proposal. The next week, she came to the club. Dressed in a beautiful traditional French dress, she started by singing a classic French lullaby. The children were fascinated, their eyes wide open. Then she taught them some French table manners while making more crêpes. Eugene watched as the children absorbed the knowledge eagerly. From then on, the French club became even more lively, with a blend of Eugene’s creative teaching and Camille’s authentic French touch. 词汇激活 行为类 ①回复:reply/respond/answer ②鼓舞:inspire/motivate/encourage ③建议:suggest/advise 情绪类 ①高兴的:glad/delighted/happy ②渴望地:eagerly/longingly 【点睛】[高分句型1] She revealed that she was from Paris and had been teaching Henry French since he was little. Maybe they'll be a review for you, but not for me. I think i'm going to head back to the book store and see if the book has come in since you checked. then i'm going to relax a little in front of the television set set. A.June 1st B.May 5th C.November14 D.The first Sunday of March 23.Where can you probably find the passage? A.Tourist brochure B.Book review C.Science report D.News report B It was a normal day, Julia and I were working in the container checking the instruments and doing other routine operations when the phone rang. C.A report. D.A review. C Humanity uses a little less than half the water available worldwide. B.has been exaggerated by some experts in the field C.poses a challenge to the technology of building reservoirs (水库) D.is underestimated by government organizations at different levels 30.According to the author, the water price should _______ . A.be reduced to the minimum B.stimulate domestic demand C.go with its real value D.take into account the occurrences of droughts 31.In order to raise the efficiency of the water supply, measures should be taken to ______ . A.guarantee full protection of the environment B.centralize the management of water resources C.increase the sense of responsibility of agencies at all levels D.encourage local and regional water resources D The video game “Black Myth: Wukong” has been praised as a “masterpiece” by critics and enthusiasts alike, with many boldly predicting that it will be a strong competitor for the famed title of Game of the Year. A.its simple plot and gameplay B.its complicated plot and cultural elements C.its focus on Western mythology D.its lack of historical accuracy 33.To use the game’s popularity, the Shanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism . A.released a video game B.created a promotional video C.built new tourist attractions D.published a travel guidebook 34.What is the significance of the development team’s research in Shanxi? A.It led to the creation of a new game engine. B.It was used to develop a virtual reality experience. C.It caused a decline in tourism to Shanxi. D.It resulted in a near 1:1 reproduction of Chinese landscapes. 35.“Black Myth: Wukong” bridges the gap between traditional Chinese culture and modern gaming . A.Tourist brochure B.Book review C.Science report D.News report B It was a normal day, Julia and I were working in the container checking the instruments and doing other routine operations when the phone rang. C.A report. D.A review. C Humanity uses a little less than half the water available worldwide. A.ignoring historical accuracy B.focusing on Western themes C.integrating cultural elements into gameplay D.using outdated graphics Smarty pants, wise guy, smart aleck — we all know one who knows everything.
