It was a sunny spring morning. The air was fresh and the sky was blue with a few white clouds. This day was special because I finally learned to ride a bike on my own.
For years, I watched my friends ride their bikes with envy (羡慕). Every time they sped by, laughing and enjoying the wind in their hair, I felt jealous. My efforts always ended in tears as I couldn’t keep my balance.
That Saturday, my father decided to teach me to ride. He took me to a quiet park, away from busy streets and traffic. The grass was green and flowers were blooming, adding color to the peaceful setting.
My father held the back of my bike seat tightly as I pedaled (踩踏板) slowly. At first, I was nervous and tense, expecting to fall any moment. But as I gained confidence, I relaxed and enjoyed the feeling of moving by myself.
After a few rounds, my father gradually let go of the bike without my noticing. I kept pedaling until I turned around and saw him standing a few feet away, smiling proudly. That’s when I realized I was riding alone.
The excitement was indescribable. I felt a strong sense of independence and success. I rode faster and farther, exploring the park with a freedom I’d never felt before.
As the day went on, I practiced turning, stopping, and even some tricks. My father watched from the sidelines, offering encouragement and advice. By the time we went home, I was a confident bike rider.
That evening, I realized learning to ride wasn’t just a new skill. It was a symbol of growth and strong will. It taught me that with patience, sticking power, and help from those who care, we can overcome any challenge.
So, that sunny Saturday became a memorable day—the day I learned to ride a bike, marking the start of many adventures and the understanding that I could achieve anything I set my mind to.

Physical activity (PA) isn’t just good for your body—it can also make your brain stronger and help you do better in school. In the past few years, scientists have found that PA can improve brain health in both animals and humans.
In early studies with rats and mice, scientists discovered that running daily led to healthier brains, better memory, and improved learning ability. The animals grew new brain cells (细胞), developed better connections between these cells, and had better blood supply to the brain. More recent researches have shown similar benefits in humans, including children and seniors, as well as those with conditions like ADHD (注意力缺陷多动障碍) and Alzheimer’s.
Scientists use EEG to measure brain electrical activity. Kids who are more fit show more efficient brain activity and a better ability to pay less attention to distractions (干扰). MRI scans (磁共振成像扫描) show that fitter kids have a larger hippocampus (海马体), an area important for memory.
Exercise has been shown to benefit brain health across all age groups. For kids, regular exercise helps them do better in school and develop important skills for future success. Among teenagers, exercise supports the ongoing development of brain structures related to memory and decision-making.
For adults, sticking to a regular exercise routine helps keep their mind sharp and reduces the risk of brain-related diseases. For older people, exercise helps slow down the loss of thinking skills and improves memory. Studies have shown that seniors who take part in regular physical activity, such as walking or swimming, often experience better overall brain health and keep their independence for longer periods.
Adding exercise to your daily routine doesn’t have to be difficult. Start by finding activities you enjoy, whether it’s dancing, hiking, or playing a team sport. Making realistic plans and slowly doing more and longer workouts help make exercise a regular part of your life. Finding someone to exercise with can give you motivation (动机) and make it more enjoyable.
Remember that even small amounts of exercise can have meaningful benefits for your brain. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking during lunch breaks, or doing a quick home workout can all contribute to your overall PA levels. The key is continuity—making exercise a regular part of your life will bring the greatest rewards for both your body and mind.
27. According to the passage, who probably has a healthier brain?
A. A quiet boy who does well in school.
B. An Alzheimer man who takes the stairs every day.
C. A girl who likes playing on the beach every weekend.
D A scientist who discovered how to have a healthier brain.
28. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Making practical plans can make exercise a part of your life.
B. Regular exercise can help older people make good decisions.
C. Routine exercise can help kids develop their interest of future.
D. Having a little bit of exercise can also help your brain work better.
29. What’s the passage mainly about?
A. The importance of exercise for physical health.
B. The ways of developing a regular exercise routine.
C. The positive effects of exercise on different kinds of age groups.
D. The benefits of exercise for brain health across different age groups.
D
Do Primates Make Friends Like Humans?
Primates, such as bonobos and chimpanzees, are brainy animals that live in complex (复杂的) social groups, similar to humans. They form friendships both within and outside their families. But do primates create friendships in the same way as humans do? Scientists study their behavior to find out.
Friendship among primates can be noticed through behaviors like grooming. For example, bonobos in the Democratic Republic of the Congo often remove parasites (寄生虫) from each other’s fur. This behavior shows a close relationship, much like how humans help friends. However, understanding friendship in animals is more complex than just observing these behaviors.
Primates’ survival depends on their ability to interact socially. They use awareness—knowledge stored in memory—to understand the goals and intentions (意图) of others. For example, if a primate sees another one moving towards him, it might wonder if the other one wants to play or fight. This ability to predict goals is key for forming friendships.
However, not all interactions involve understanding intentions. Sometimes, primates react based on sensory inputs like touch or sound. For example, if a primate is hit after a foot stamp (跺脚), it might fear foot stamping in the future, without understanding the intention behind it.
Primates use gestures and sounds to communicate, which helps them understand each other’s goals. For example, a bonobo might touch another gently to signal a desire for grooming. This intentional communication enables them to focus closely on the other one’s goal, making it easier to form friendships. Communication helps primates build strong social connections.
Stress affects primates’ ability to form friendships. When primates feel really stressed, they only think about the danger right in front of them and don’t pay attention to unclear social hints (暗示). Chronic (慢性的) stress can make the situation worse, as primates may altogether avoid social interactions. However, intentional communication can help overcome this. For example, stressed chimpanzees use attention-getting gestures to signal friendship, even when they don’t know the other well.
Studying primates helps us understand our own social behaviors. This research also highlights the importance of communication in forming, building and keeping social ties. By understanding these behaviors, we can better appreciate the social nature of primates and humans alike.
30. Why does the writer write paragraph 2?
A. To explain how primates use grooming to form friendships.
B. To lead in the complexity of understanding animal friendships.
C. To argue that primates form friendships only within their families.
D. To discuss the influence of stress on primates’ social interactions.
31. What does the word “highlight” in the last paragraph mean?
A. draws attention to B. passes over C. leaves out D. builds up
32. What do we know from the passage?
A. The ability of building friendship is key to goal-predicting.
B. Primates use only sensory inputs to interact with each other.
C. Intentional communication is important for primates to form connections.
D. Stress has a positive effectiveness on primates’ ability to form friendships.
33. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing the passage?
A. To compare the social behaviors of primates and humans.
B. To encourage people to understand the friendship in animals.
C. To discuss the effects of stress on primates’ social interactions.
D. To explain how communication helps primates build friendships.

The Central Axis of Beijing: A Historical Treasure
The Central Axis of Beijing is a really important part of the city. It runs about 7.8 kilometers right through the middle of Beijing. This long line is like a thread (线) that connects many famous and important places in the city, showing us the long history of China and great building skills of Chinese people.
The story of the Central Axis starts from the Yuan Dynasty, around 700 years ago. At that time, the city was planned carefully around this axis. People built the city according to old Chinese ideas about the world and how things should be in order. The axis was the center, just like the middle of a big family, showing the power and importance of the emperor.
The Forbidden City is a very famous part on the Central Axis. It was the home of emperors a long time ago. There are many big palaces in the Forbidden City, all were built in a balanced way along the axis. The biggest one, the Hall of Supreme Harmony, is right in the middle. Its big size and beautiful look tell us how great the old Chinese building skills were.
Going south along the axis, you’ll find Tiananmen Square. It’s a huge open place. Tiananmen, the big gate, is at the north end of the square. It’s not only a beautiful old building but also a very important symbol of modern China. The Monument to the People’s Heroes and the Great Hall of the People are also on the axis. They remind us of the history of China and how the country is moving forward.
The Temple of Heaven is another special place on the axis. The round buildings there are very different from the square walls around them. This shows the old Chinese idea that the sky is round and the earth is square.
At the north end of the axis are the Drum Tower and the Bell Tower. In the past, people used the sounds of the drums and bells in these towers to tell the time. Even today, they stand there, telling us stories of old Beijing.
Nowadays, the Central Axis is still very important. It’s like a bridge between the past and the present. Many tourists from all over the world come to visit it every year. The Chinese government is working hard to keep it in good shape so that we can always remember our great history.

D. A scientist who discovered how to have a healthier brain.
A The importance of exercise for physical health.
B. The ways of developing a regular exercise routine.
C. The positive effects of exercise on different kinds of age groups.
D. The benefits of exercise for brain health across different age groups.

In our life, understanding often begins with a single step towards each other. I deeply realized this through an experience with my mother last year.
One day, my mom asked me to take out the trash while I was doing my homework. I got angry because I thought she didn’t understand how busy I was. I said some hurtful words and ran to my room. After a while, I began to cool down. I realized that my mom was just trying to help me develop good habits. So I made a decision to break the silence. I went to her and said sorry. We communicated sincerely and solved the problem.
This experience taught me that understanding requires courage to reach out. Instead of letting anger control us we should calm down and talk openly. Only in this way can we build better relationships with the people around us.
