Emma looked sadly out of the window of the bus. Only 50 miles outside the town was the farm where she grew up. She thought about the farm all the time, especially the animals.
When her family sold the farm and moved to the nearby town, Emma was excited. But when she got to the new school, she felt out of place. She had few classmates to talk to.
With a sigh, Emma turned her attention back to the present. The bus came to a stop. “Welcome to the Nature Center.” her teacher said. “A guide will give us a presentation about the animals, and then you’ll help to feed the baby squirrels. Now, I want everyone to find a partner.”
Emma didn’t have any friends yet. Who would be her partner? Emma got close to Julia, a talkative and outgoing girl. “Could I be your partner?” Emma asked uncertainly.
“Sure.” said Julia warmly.
Together the girls walked into the center. After the presentation, a keeper showed them how to hold the bottle of milk for baby squirrels. Then the girls started to feed their own baby squirrels.
After the babies finished eating, the keeper asked, “Would you like to help feed the adult squirrels, too?” Emma was quick to volunteer, but when the keeper opened the first cage, a squirrel inside jumped out. Emma remained calm, held out her hand, made quiet sounds, and then quickly got it.
“Wow! You are so brave!” Julia said. “You’re always so quiet. I thought you were afraid of everything.”
“I know that we have to stay calm when animals are frightened or excited.”
The keeper nodded in agreement and asked Emma, “Would you like to volunteer to help out with the animals at the center?”
“Cool! I would love to work here! That’s a great chance!” Emma replied cheerfully.

What will our world be like in the future? Different people have different answers, but one thing is sure that it will be very different from the world today. Here are some ideas.
Thanks to the robots, our lives will be easier. Roberts will be able to make cars, look after sick people and teach students. And they don’t mind doing dirty or difficult jobs, and can work for long hours without getting tired or bored. Some robots work in dangerous places-under the sea or in space. People will have less and less work to do and spend most of their time playing sports and traveling, so they will become stronger and healthier.
As for travelling, you can see lots of self-driving cars and buses on the road because special computers will control (控制) them with the help of 5G. Many companies are now planning self-driving cars. By 2045, driverless cars will be the main transport on the road. Maybe every family will own a personal flying car. We could fly at 480km per hour. However, some people believe there will be problems with traffic. If the flying cars become popular, there is likely to be an air traffic jam. And what will happen if the cars stop working?
Where will people live? People will be able to live in the sea, on the moon or on the Mars. The Earth won’t be crowded or noisy. So there will be much space for people to plant trees. There will be less pollution. Some people think maybe will live in the house with wings (翅膀) on both sides of the house, and there are many different kinds of wings. Wherever you want to go, the flying house can take you there in a short time.
Moreover, people used to pay with cash (现金) for everything we bought. In fact, we are already using one kind of digital (数字的) money when we take a bus or use a credit card (信用卡) to shop online. You have to say that using digital money is much easier than using cash. It is also safer than taking a lot of cash with you.
Technology is also improving people's happiness. Blind people may have a chance to get their sight back-by wearing bionic eyes (仿生眼). A blind eye can no longer sense light, but a bionic eye can use camera to “see” and send the message into brain. Although the bionic eye now only help patients to see lights and unclear shapes a better and clearer bionic eye could be just a few years away.
27. How many ideas of the future are mentioned?
A. Three B. Four C. Five D. Six.
28. Why will there be less pollution in the earth?
A. There will be no cars on the road.
B. Many factories will be closed or shut down.
C. No one will live in the earth any more.
D. There will be less people and more space to plant tress.
29. The passage mainly tells us ________.
A. life in the future B. technology in the future C. money in the future D. travelling in the future
D
Looking at the unfinished homework on his desk always makes David Grey feel uncomfortable. David often leaves his homework behind and surfs the Internet or watches TV instead, waiting until the last minute. “But the longer I wait,” says David, aged 15, “the more I worry.”
Everyone procrastinates (拖延) because they want to feel good now. The way to do that is not to do the task at the moment. You can procrastinate on nearly anything, even enjoyable task such as planning a vacation. “Some people procrastinate cleaning. Some people procrastinate by cleaning,” says Professor Peter Stone. Research has shown that the top tasks young people procrastinate are studying and going to bed. “One big cause for procrastination is that people are afraid of failure, of not meeting others’ expectations(期待),” Stone adds.
Some people believe that procrastination will make them thrive. But researchers disagree. “I did a study several years ago, asking procrastinators to finish a task in a certain period of time,” says Stone. “They did badly. They did worse than non-procrastinators: they made more mistakes and they took longer. But they thought they did better.” No matter what the cause is, procrastination is usually not going to be good for you. For example, bedtime procrastination can lead to sleeplessness which in turn can cause many other health problems.
For those who need some drives to stop procrastinating, the best advice might be to take action first. If you’ve been procrastinating on getting into a habit of exercise, just put on your walking shoes. A little bit of progress (进展) will get you moving
Next, find something to help you remember to take action. If you want to go to bed at 10:30 pm, you might set timed dimmer switch (调光开关) at l0 pm. When the lights are dimmer, you’ll start going to bed. It works for most people.
Finally, reward (奖励) yourself every time you make progress. For example, after you’ve run 3 km, enjoy your favorite ice-cream. But be careful: it won’t work the other way around.
30. What is the main reason for people’s procrastination?
A. They don’t want to do hard work.
B. They fear to lose and let others down.
C. They need to finish the top tasks first.
D. They plan to do the enjoyable tasks last.
31. The underlined word “thrive” in Paragraph 3 most probably means “________”.
A work more successfully B. think faster
C. fail more easily D. worry too much
32. What can be the best title of this passage?
A. A Day of a Procrastinator. B. Procrastination: Yes or No?
C. Say Goodbye to Procrastination. D. Want to feel good now? Procrastinate.
33. What should David do if he wants to stop procrastinating on a writing task?
A. Put on some soft music to help think actively.
B. Switch off the light before he goes to bed at night.
C. Surf the Internet for fun before starting to write.
D. Enjoy his favorite ice-cream after writing for a while.

Together, the girls walked into the center.
That afternoon, in the bus on the way back to school, Emma sat next to Julia, her new friend. A rush of new found happiness washed over her.

A. work more successfully B. think faster
C. fail more easily D. worry too much
