Dear Sir/Madam,
On behalf of the Student Union of our school, I'm writing to express our concerns regarding recent environmental issues at the newly popular tourist site and propose constructive solutions.
Recently, Mini Erhai Scenic Area has become a beloved destination for locals and tourists alike. However, due to a sharp increase in the number of tourists and mobile vendors recently, the beautiful environment of the scenic area has been affected.
To address these issues, we would like to put forward some suggestions. First, it is essential to standardize the management of the scenic area. For example, specific areas for vendors should be set aside to keep the area clean and organized. Second, environmental awareness of tourists needs to be enhanced. Posting more environmental protection slogans in noticeable places can be very helpful.
We sincerely hope that the scenic area management department can take these problems seriously and take effective measures as soon as possible. Your efforts in preserving this natural treasure will undoubtedly contribute to maintaining its charm and attract more visitors in a sustainable way.
Thank you for considering our proposals.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
I could be someone who was really competent. “I can definitely help with that! Where are the parts?” Following Grandma, I went into the room, where a computer sat surrounded by some scattered parts. Rolling up my sleeves, I carefully connected everything. It was a piece of cake to me. “Done!” I announced confidently. After a few adjustments, the internet was up and running. Now it was time to sell the roses. I decided to start from my social media platform. I quickly uploaded photos, added descriptions, and set prices. Before long, notifications started showing up — people were noticing. My abilities made a difference!(96词)
Within a few hours, orders for roses flooded in. “This is amazing, Jude!” Grandma cheered with joy as she began bustling about, packing flowers. Mr. Jackson chuckled warmly as he handed me another bunch to label. The energy was electric — everyone was on their feet, moving quickly to keep up with the growing orders. The farm felt alive, and so did I. To our surprise, the roses sold out in just half a day. “You’ve brought the farm into the twenty-first century, Jude,” Grandma hugged me tightly. I realized that being competent wasn’t about avoiding mistakes. It was about facing them head-on and making the most of my strengths.(100词)
【A篇】21. A 22. C 23. B
根据“What kinds of activities do campers get to do?(营员们可以参加哪些活动?)”部分中“Hands-on activities to practice specimen (标本) collection procedures(实践标本收集程序)”可知,该夏令营提供标本收集练习,故选A。
根据“What does the cost cover?(费用包括什么?)”部分中“The cost of the non-residential program is $850, with an additional $400 fee for the residential option. The total program cost covers room and board, all materials for labs and activities as well as transportation for field trips. A 10% discount is available for early admission.(非住宿项目的费用为850美元,住宿项目的额外费用为400美元。项目总费用包括食宿费、实验室和活动的所有材料以及实地考察的交通费。提前加入可享受九折优惠)”可知,住宿项目总费用为850+400=1250美元,提前加入可以享受九折优惠,即1250×90%=1125美元,故选C。
23. 细节理解题。根据“Application Requirements(申请要求)”部分中“Note: Answers to questions provided by anyone other than that applicant will disqualify the application.(注:由申请人以外的人提供的问题的答案将取消申请资格)”可知,提供别人给出的答案会导致申请人被取消资格,故选B。
【B篇】24 A 25 B 25 A 26 C
根据第一段“Math and music are two entirely different fields of study, but there is a strong relevance between them. At some point, they tend to overlap, and it is common for people good at math to be good at music. It may seem illogical to compare the two, but there are more similarities between math and music than you would imagine. (数学和音乐是两个完全不同的研究领域,但它们之间有很强的相关性。在某些时候,它们往往会重叠,擅长数学的人擅长音乐是很常见的。比较两者似乎不合逻辑,但数学和音乐之间的相似之处比你想象的要多。)”可知,音乐和数学之间有重叠,有很强的相关性,与A项“Math and music are deeply intertwined (数学和音乐深深交织在一起)”意思相近,故选A项。
25.主旨大意题。根据第二段“Numbers can tell us more about music. Sounds strange but it’s true.Music is divided into sections that are called measures, where each measure has equal amounts of beats. This is comparable to mathematical divisions of time. Now, each piece of music will tell us how many beats there are in each measure. All the music notes have numerical connections and a number of beats. It is important to understand the value of fractions (分数) and notes to count the music correctly. (数字可以告诉我们更多关于音乐的信息。听起来很奇怪,但这是真的。音乐被分成几个小节,每个小节都有等量的节拍。这与数学上的时间划分相当。现在每一段音乐都会告诉我们每个小节有多少拍。所有的音符都有数字连接和节拍数。理解分数的价值和音符对正确计算音乐很重要)”可知,本段主要阐述数字能告诉我们音乐的信息,即:数字有助于我们理解音乐。故选B项。
26. 细节理解题。根据第三段“The biggest similarity between math and music in pattern. (数学和音乐最大的相似之处在于模式。)”可知,作者同意“模式在数学和音乐是共有的”这个说法。故选A项。
根据最后一段“Music is a gateway to many things, and until now, you probably didn’t realize that it’s just as demanding, analytical, logical and scientific as math. Something as simple as learning ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ on the piano is actually setting your child up for bigger and better things; maybe they’ll pick up Pythagoras (毕达哥拉斯) in a flash, maybe they’ll be a genius in math, perhaps they’ll one day discover their own theory of relativity.
【C篇】28.C 29.D 30.A 31.B
第一段中“doing new activities and having new experiences can help enhance those connections at any age(在任何年龄,做新的活动和有新的经历都可以帮助增强这些联系)”提到,在任何年龄,做新的活动和有新的经历都可以帮助增强这些联系,根据第二段内容,尤其是“Most of the participants who had traveled and lived abroad demonstrated a measurable increase in creativity. One of the reasons for this obviously is that living in another culture exposes you to new ideas, to new people, to new stimuli (刺激); and that increases the amount of elements or bits of information that you can combine or recombine in novel and original ways to come up withnew ideas.(大多数在国外旅行和生活过的参与者在创造力方面都有明显的提高。其中一个原因显然是生活在另一种文化中会让你接触到新的思想,新的人,新的刺激;这增加了元素或信息的数量,你可以用新颖和原创的方式组合或重新组合,从而产生新的想法)”可知,一项研究表明,大多数在国外旅行和生活过的参与者在创造力方面都有明显的提高,是通过例子证实第一段中的观点,故本段使用的写作技巧是举例子,故选C。
29.推理判断题。根据第三段中“She found that if the body was in an enriched environment, the brain could be shaped by that environment and grow.(她发现,如果身体处于一个营养丰富的环境中,大脑就会被这种环境塑造并成长)”以及“The rats that had spent more time in the enriched environment had more synaptic connections. So an enriched environment allows you to develop more pathways(在富集环境中待得更久的大鼠有更多的突触连接。所以一个丰富的环境可以让你发展出更多的途径)”可知,丰富的环境有助于大脑产生更多的突触连接。故选D。
30.词句猜测题。根据第三段前两句“Scientists used to believe that the brain was unchangeable and only degraded with age. It wasn’t until the 1960s that neuroscientist, Dr. Marian Diamond, proved the complete opposite.(科学家过去认为,大脑是不可改变的,只会随着年龄的增长而退化。直到20世纪60年代,神经学家Marian Diamond博士才证明了完全相反的情况)”可知,Marian Diamond证明大脑不会随着年龄的增长而退化,结合划线词前“so that they’ll be there and available for you(这样它们就会在那里,为你所用)”可知,此处指“不会随着你年龄的增长而退化”,pruned away意为“退化,逐渐消失”,故选A。
31.主旨大意题。根据全文内容,结合第一段中“doing new activities and having new experiences can help enhance those connections at any age(在任何年龄,做新的活动和有新的经历都可以帮助增强这些联系)”和最后一段“If you want to be changeable, adaptable, travel with openness and courage and embrace the unknown. It may just transform your brain for the better.(如果你想改变,适应能力强,带着开放和勇气去旅行,拥抱未知。它可能会让你的大脑变得更好)”可知,文章主要讲述旅行能让你的大脑变得更聪明,大脑发育需要适度刺激,旅行有助于大脑的开发,故选B。

【语填】
52.Completed 53.an 54.to promote 55.as 56.strengthen 57.which 58.has risen 59.globally 60.improving 61.solutions
故填an。
此处为make efforts to do sth意为“努力做某事”,所以此处使用动词不定式形式。故填to promote。
故填as。
故填which。
故填has risen。

M: Hello, my name’s Lukas Royle, and I’m a glass artist. Actually, I make pictures in glass, often very large ones. I must say that it wasn’t the career my parents had hoped I’d follow. According to them, a much more suitable thing to do was work as a mechanic. My father was a farmer, and he thought I should do something conventional, even if I didn’t follow in his footsteps. I’ve always been artistic. I wouldn’t have gone to art school, though, unless I’d been encouraged to do so. My older brother and cousin used to tease me a bit when I preferred painting to climbing trees, but my sister was kinder. She said I was so good at art that I should definitely study it, and that gave me the confidence to apply. I was lucky enough to find a job while I was still at art school. There was a furniture shop nearby. I went in and told them I specialized in making pictures in glass. I offered to produce some lamps for them. What I made sold well, and the shop owner was delighted, so that turned out to be very successful. By the time I graduated from art school, I’d managed to save up a bit of money, so I could get all of the equipment I needed.I first rented a small studio and started my life as an independent artist. Though it can be hard work to make a living as an artist, it is also a very exciting time!

Math and music are two entirely different fields of study, but there is a strong relevance between them. At some point, they tend to overlap, and it is common for people good at math to be good at music. It may seem illogical to compare the two, but there are more similarities between math and music than you would imagine.
Numbers can tell us more about music. Sounds strange but it’s true. Music is divided into sections that are called measures, where each measure has equal amounts of beats. This is comparable to mathematical divisions of time. Now, each piece of music will tell us how many beats there are in each measure. All the music notes have numerical connections and a number of beats. It is important to understand the value of fractions (分数) and notes to count the music correctly.
The biggest similarity between math and music in pattern. For example, music has repeating choruses while math uses patterns to explain the unknown. You can use different mathematical phenomena in music. These include geometry (几何学), signal processing, etc. In fact, research has shown that when music shows some mathematical structure, it tends to be more popular.
In addition to their shared elements, math and music can be taught using the principles of both. A student who enjoys math and music can benefit from both. For example, music can enhance cognition and reasoning skills. For instance, Einstein listened to music when solving math problems to increase clarity. Similarly, playing music can improve cognition, as it increases communication between the two brains.
Music is a gateway to many things, and until now, you probably didn’t realize that it’s just as demanding, analytical, logical and scientific as math. Something as simple as learning “Mary Had a Little Lamb” on the piano is actually setting your child up for bigger and better things; maybe they’ll pick up Pythagoras (毕达哥拉斯) in a flash, maybe they’ll be a genius in math, perhaps they’ll one day discover their own theory of relativity.
24. What does the author think about math and music?
A. Math and music are deeply intertwined.
B. Music is a totally different subject from math.
C. It sounds reasonable to compare math and music.
D. People expert at math all tend to be music lovers.
25. What’s mainly about the paragraph 2?
A. Measure is a piece of music. B. Math helps in reading music.
C. Music sound appears strange. D. Music beats equal to math numbers.
26. What statement will the author probably agree with?
A. Patterns are common in both math and music.
B. Certain music skills are practised via choruses.
C. Music principle seems easier than mathematics.
D. Reasoning skills in math chiefly rely on music.
27. What message does the last paragraph convey?
A. Musical involvement promotes to be a genius.
B. Music allows kids to combine math with piano.
C. Music offers kids potential success in mathematics.
D. Music may enhance the mathematics skills of all kids.

How can travel strengthen the human brain? It’s child’s play. By the age of three, a child’s brain has twice as many synapses (突触) per neuron (神经元) than in adults. That’s because as humans age, the brain removes unused connections to make stronger ones; but doing new activities and having new experiences can help enhance those connections at any age.
A 2009 study gave participants a unique creativity puzzle to solve involving a candle, a box of tacks and matches. The goal was to fix a lighted candle to a cork board with nothing but those items. Most of the participants who had traveled and lived abroad demonstrated a measurable increase in creativity. One of the reasons for this obviously is that living in another culture exposes you to new ideas, to new people, to new stimuli (刺激); and that increases the amount of elements or bits of information that you can combine or recombine in novel and original ways to come up with new ideas.
Scientists used to believe that the brain was unchangeable and only degraded with age. It wasn’t until the 1960s that neuroscientist, Dr. Marian Diamond, proved the complete opposite. She found that if the body was in an enriched environment, the brain could be shaped by that environment and grow. She did this by placing some lab rats in a multi-sensory environment and others in a bare environment. The rats that had spent more time in the enriched environment had more synaptic connections. So an enriched environment allows you to develop more pathways; so that they’ll be there and available for you and they won’t be pruned away as you grow older. By accessing these environments and travel, the mind can enter a complex emotional state known as awe. Awe is one of the most powerful perceptions we have, and awe gives you the excitement and the ability to step to the very place we evolve to avoid which is not knowing. So it gives you the curiosity and the courage to step forward.
If you want to be changeable, adaptable, travel with openness and courage and embrace the unknown. It may just transform your brain for the better.
28. What writing technique does the author use in Paragraph 2?
A. By comparison. B. By citing quotation.
C. By giving example. D. By giving definition
29. What can we infer from Dr. Marian Diamond’s proof?
A. As humans age,the brains degrade.
B. Children are more creative than adults.
C. The brain can be shaped by the environment and grow.
D. Enriched environments help brain grow more synaptic connections.
30 What does the underlined phrase mean in paragraph 3?
A. faded B. deleted C. expanded D. increased
31. What does the passage mainly tell us?
A. The relationship between body and mind.
B. Travel can help transform your brain for the better.
C. More synapses in neurons make people more creative.
D. Travel gives you the curiosity and the courage to embrace the unknown.

The car turned onto the familiar road that led to Grandma’s farm. “Jude, this summer holiday will be a great chance for you to stay with your grandma,” Dad said as he drove. Every moment, we were moving farther away from the city, the place where I knew how to do things right.
The car engine wasn’t off before Grandma hugged me. I slowly dragged myself out of the car. “Jude, you look unhappy. Why?” Grandma asked. She acted like nothing bad had happened last time. Could I ask how much money her neighbor Mr. Jackson had lost because of my mistake? Was he still upset with me? “I’m fine,” I answered. “I’m just missing my computer camp. Computers are something I’m good at.” “That sounds disappointing.” Grandma nodded.
I liked visiting the farm during breaks before I messed things up last summer. Grandma lived alone, and Mr. Jackson was like family to her. Then one day I forgot to lock the gate and let the goats into his flower beds. He lost almost all his roses for the farmers’ market.
Now, back at the farm, I felt nervous. I was trying to hide in the room when I saw Mr. Jackson! He was opening the door and calling Grandma. “I need help!” he yelled to her. “Just a second for the freshly harvested roses!” That was when he saw me. I felt my heart tighten and was ready for his criticism. I deserved it. He had probably been waiting for this moment since last summer.
However, Mr. Jackson greeted me happily, “Great, Jude is here! Your grandma always tells us you are a wonderfully competent(有能力的)computer programmer.” I shook my head. “I am not competent. I am sorry I messed things up.” He was surprised and comforted me, “It was an accident. Being competent doesn’t mean you never make mistakes.”
I looked out of the window. There were piles of roses waiting to be sold. “Jude can you help us? We want to sell roses online. We have a computer and all the parts(零件)for our internet connection, but we just can’t set it up,” Grandma asked. No internet. They seemed to live in the twentieth century.

Maybe I could be someone who was really competent.

Dear Sir/Madam,
On behalf of the Student Union of our school I'm writing to express our concerns regarding recent environmental issues at the newly popular tourist site and propose constructive solutions.
We sincerely hope that the scenic area management department can take these problems seriously and take effective measures as soon as possible Your efforts in preserving this natural treasure will undoubtedly contribute to maintaining its charm and attract more visitors in a sustainable way.
