B Known by the Nazis as the “White Mouse”, Nancy Wake is Australia’s most celebrated World War II resistance fighter. Hearing the name the “White Mouse”, most people would imagine that Nancy was mild, and shy, but nothing could be further from the truth. Nancy Wake was a brave and fearless woman who took part in dangerous tasks to save the lives of Allied servicemen and war refugees. As a journalist living in France, Nancy witnessed firsthand the cruelty of the Nazis and made up her mind to fight it any way she could. When the war started, Nancy helped hundreds of people escape to neutral ( 中立的) Spain. Placed on top of the Gestapo’s most-wanted list, Nancy was referred to as the “White Mouse” because of the way she slipped (溜走) through their fingers and avoided detection. Nancy was sent to England in 1943 to join the British Special Operations Executive (SOE). She was trained in parachuting and surveillance (监视), throwing herself into these activities with strength and determination. She was later parachuted into France, where she helped organise and lead resistance fighters. On one memorable occasion she walked and cycled 500km through several German checkpoints to find a radio operator. She believed that being female allowed her to pass through checkpoints that no one else could get through.       Nancy received medals from Allied countries. The medals are displayed in the World War II gallery at the Australian War Memorial, and form a fitting tribute to this fearless woman, who passed away in 2011. Perhaps the best words to underline Nancy Wake’s spirit came from her own lips: “I hate wars and violence. But if they come, I don’t see why we women should just wave our men a proud goodbye and then make them shoes, socks and gloves.” 4. What might most people think of Nancy Wake on hearing her nickname? A. She was a protective woman. B. She was gentle and easily harmed. C. She would like to tell the truth all the time. D. She was not afraid of being involved in a war. 5. What did Nancy Wake do at the start of the war? A. She got a full copy of the Gestapo’s most-wanted list. B. She helped people get away from war areas. C. She organised and led resistance fighters. D. She left France for Spain for good. 6. What can be learned about Nancy Wake as a female soldier? A. She fell victim to cruelty easily. B. She died in a parachute accident. C. She became a successful radio operator. D. She got past German checkpoints successfully. 7. Which of the following is probably Nancy Wake’s belief ? A. Women can fight on the front line. B. Women can make a great difference at home. C Women should be trained to support the family. D. Women shouldn’t put themselves in high-risk situations. C Twins have been rare in human history and for that reason can seem special. Many cultures associate twins with health and energy, while others see them as a reminder of the duality (双重性) of life and death, good and evil, and some famous twins are even credited with the birth of nations. Despite the fact that almost all primates (灵长目动物) today, including humans, usually give birth to just one baby, our most recent common ancient ancestors, who lived about 60 million years ago likely gave birth to twins as the standard, according to the recent research. Researchers have been studying the evolution of litter size — the number of babies born per pregnancy — for years to find out when and why twin pregnancies became uncommon. And the best way to reconstruct the history of litter size is to map the known litter size of as many species as possible across the mammalian family tree and then used mathematical models. But outside of rare events where entire animal families are fossilized together, it is extraordinarily difficult to assess litter size for extinct species from the fossilized skeleton (骨骼) alone. So they instead collected data on as many living mammals as possible, from nearly 1, 000 living mammal species for information about how many babies are commonly born to each species. Based on the study, the switch to single births in many primates, including humans, occurred at least 50 million years ago, leading to the evolution of increasingly larger bodies and brains. This adaptation allowed for the development of large human babies with sizable brains capable of complex learning as babies and young children, and increased their chances of survival. Furthermore, because multiple pregnancy requires more energy from the mother, early primate ancestors who gave birth to just one large baby may have been at a survival advantage. The findings don’t mean that having twins today is a disadvantage. That is quite a different experience from our tiny primate ancestors birthing in the trees 60 million years ago. 8. What do we know about twins in human history? A. Twin birth has been relatively infrequent. B. Twins are viewed as a symbol of harmony. C. Twins are more likely to become nation founders. D. Twin birth has seen a noticeable increase in recent times. 9. Which approach was adopted in the study of litter size evolution? A. Drawing mammalian family trees. B. Employing living mammal data. C. Construct models of extinct species. D. Assessing fossilized skeletons. 10. What led to the shift from twins to single birth according to the study? A. The growing preference for single births among humans. B. The increasing complexity of social structure in primate societies. C. The necessity for mothers to conserve energy during the parenting process. D The natural process of genetic development of body size and brain capacity. 11. What is the author’s attitude towards twins’ evolution? A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Approving. D. Ambiguous. D In a study of 4,000 people, 56% of women described being unhappy with their physical appearance. Furthermore, 89% wanted to lose weight, and 15% had used weight loss strategies for at least 5 years of their life. The fact that 89% of women want to lose weight shows how unattainable (难以实现的) the measures of feminine (女性的) beauty are. For genetic and biological reasons, there are many different kinds of beauty. If we compare ourselves to the impossible measures that only 10% of the population can achieve naturally, we will always be “ugly”. Even models who measure up to the “ideals” of beauty and fashion have also expressed dissatisfaction with their bodies. For example, Irina Shayk said that she feels insecure and ugly. Women who don’t feel beautiful develop a style of passive emotional coping when faced with their image. Conversely (相反), active emotional coping refers to actions taken to gain control of the situation. This coping style involves the psychological activation of our resources to do things such as stress management. Current studies show that women are less influenced by their body mass index, and more influenced by the image they have of themselves. Therefore, a woman with model features who has a passive coping style when it comes to her body may not feel beautiful. However, a woman with less “popular” features, using an active coping method, may feel more beautiful. Really, the western beauty standard is detrimental because extreme thinness is the prototype (典型) for what women should look like. This beauty ideal, as unattainable as it is extreme, has been internalized by many women. In return, women have experienced negative effects in the way they see themselves. Negative self-concept influences the manner in which a woman faces her self-image. We develop our self-concept through interactions with others. If, every day, women receive information about how their bodies should look, our self-concept will diminish (降低). This is especially true if we don’t try to control our own resources and strengths. 12. Why is Irina Shayk mentioned in Paragraph 2? A. To explain what beauty means. B. To encourage women to learn from her. C. To prove that ugly women can be models too. D. To show some measures of beauty are hard to achieve. 13. What can be inferred from the current studies? A. Confident women may feel more beautiful. B. A passive coping style can be found in most women. C. Women pay more attention to their weight than their image. D. Women with model features are less influenced by their image. 14 What does the underlined word “detrimental” in Paragraph 5 probably mean? A. Official. B. Harmful. C. Achievable. D. Unlimited. 15. What plays an important role in developing our self-concept? A. Experience. B. Knowledge. C. Judgment. D. Appearance. At some point, everyone has faced unkind remarks or actions. Whether it’s teasing from classmates or harsh words from peers, dealing with such situations can be challenging. ____16____ Here are some tips to help you respond effectively and build your confidence. Practice comebacks. Quick, confident replies - known as comebacks - can stop bullies in their tracks. Instead of waiting for the perfect moment, try practicing. Ask a friend or a sympathetic adult to role-play with you. If you don’t feel comfortable with this, you can try it on your own in the mirror. Notice which style of comeback feels most natural to you. For example, if humor doesn’t feel natural, a calm response like “Are you finished?” may be more effective. ____17____ Learn a little about your bully. Bullies are usually very socially intelligent and great people-readers. They can easily see which comments get under people’s skin. You can benefit from building up this same skill, but using it for defense instead of for aggression (like the bully). Watch the bully’s reaction when you deliver your comeback and the reaction of others around him. Did he respond with surprise or walk away? ____18____ Watch for patterns and make note of what worked and what didn’t. ____19____ Sometimes comebacks can lead to more insults and even violence. Keep an eye out for signs that the person is becoming aggressive. The person may touch his head or face and clench (握紧) his fists. The person may remove an article of clothing, and may crouch down slightly. In addition, the person may turn his non-dominant side toward you; so, a left-handed person may turn his right side toward you. If you notice any of these behaviors, do not try to make a comeback and back away from the person. Get help. If someone is bullying you regularly, get help from a teacher or a parent. ____20____ If you can’t solve the problem informally, get someone in a position of authority involved. You shouldn’t have to deal with constant insults from a bully in any situation. A. Come up with safety ideas. B. Watch for physical signals of violence. C. Then the comeback style used was successful. D. Bullies are less likely to pick on you if you aren’t alone. E. You can also get in a lot of trouble for using these kinds of insults. F. While ignoring them sometimes works, a more active approach is often needed. G. Use what works best for you until you can practice and use the other methods effectively. After a recent business trip, I was heading back to my home in Northern California. She sank slowly into her father's favorite chair and stared at the small American flag on his desk. It was the flag which Chief Russell had given to her after the funeral last summer, when he hugged her and told her how proud the Police Department was of her dad's work for them. His tears had warmed Ally's cheeks; her own tears were still frozen inside her heart. Ally looked at her father's picture on the bookcase. Dad was sitting in the middle of a stream, wet through but grinning proudly. "I miss you, Dad," she said softly. By this time last year she had already taken dozens of pictures. Ever since she could remember, she and Dad had been a team, searching the woods behind the house each weekend for a glimpse of the special wood warbler(林中莺). Ally reached for the first photo album she and Dad had put together. On the cover a tiny orange bird with blue-gray wings and sharp black eyes peered out of the photo her father had clipped from a local newspaper. Ally smiled, remembering the excited look on his face when he first showed her the pretty bird. "Ally, I bet if we search real hard, we'll see this little guy together some day." They'd never spotted the warbler, but her father had an amazing way of making each outing seem special. Staying with Dad, Ally felt comfortable. "If only I could get that good feeling back," she thought, sighing. Staring at the bird, suddenly, she knew exactly what she had to do. Grabbing the-little flag, she placed her camera around her neck and hurried outside. Ally stuck the flag among the flowers in the garden. "Please let me see the warbler," she murmured to herself. She gave her worried Mom a kiss and then set off into the woods. Familiar smells of the earth rose up to greet her. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Determined to start out the next morning, she was about to head home when a ringing birdsong floated down to her. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 扬大附中东部分校2024-2025学年第二学期期中考试 高二英语试卷 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项,并标在试卷的相应位置。 1. She was trained in parachuting and surveillance (监视) throwing herself into these activities with strength and determination. C. Women should be trained to support the family. D. Women shouldn’t put themselves in high-risk situations. B 5. B 6. D 7. 根据第二段中“Hearing the name the “White Mouse”, most people would imagine that Nancy was mild, and shy, but nothing could be further from the truth. (听到“白鼠”这个名字,大多数人会认为南希温和、害羞,但事实远非如此)”可知,听到“白鼠”这个名字大家会觉得Nancy温顺、害羞,即认为她很温柔,很容易受到伤害。故选B项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“When the war started, Nancy helped hundreds of people escape to neutral (中立的) Spain.(战争开始时,南希帮助数百人逃往中立的西班牙)”可知,战争开始时Nancy帮助人们逃离战区。 根据第四段中“On one memorable occasion she walked and cycled 500km through several German checkpoints to find a radio operator. She believed that being female allowed her to pass through checkpoints that no one else could get through.(在一个难忘的时刻,她步行和骑行500公里,穿过几个德国检查站,找到了一名无线电操作员。她认为,作为女性,她可以通过其他人无法通过的检查站)”可知,Nancy曾骑行500公里穿越多个德国检查站,并认为女性身份帮助她成功通过,D选项“她成功地通过了德国多个检查站”直接对应这一事实。故选D项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“But if they come, I don’t see why we women should just wave our men a proud goodbye and then make them shoes, socks and gloves.(但如果它们来了,我不明白为什么我们女人应该骄傲地向男人挥手告别,然后给他们做鞋子、袜子和手套)”可知,Nancy反对女性仅承担后勤角色,主张战争发生时女性也可以上前线,A选项“女性可以上前线”准确体现了她的信念。故选A项。 C Twins have been rare in human history and for that reason can seem special. D. The natural process of genetic development of body size and brain capacity. 11. What is the author’s attitude towards twins’ evolution? A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Approving. D. Ambiguous. A 9. B 10. D 11. 根据文章第一段“Twins have been rare in human history and for that reason can seem special.(在人类历史上,双胞胎一直较为罕见,正因如此,他们似乎显得很特别。)” 故选A。 根据文章第二段“So they instead collected data on as many living mammals as possible, from nearly1, 000 living mammal species for information about how many babies are commonly born to each species.(因此,他们转而尽可能多地收集现存哺乳动物的数据,从近 1000种现存的哺乳动物物种中获取有关每个物种通常生育多少幼崽的信息。)” 根据文章第三段“Based on the study, the switch to single births in many primates, including humans, occurred at least 50million years ago, leading to the evolution of increasingly larger bodies and brains. This adaptation allowed for the development of large human babies with sizable brains capable of complex learning as babies and young children, and increased their chances of survival. Furthermore, because multiple pregnancy requires more energy from the mother, early primate ancestors who gave birth to just one large baby may have been at a survival advantage.(根据这项研究,包括人类在内的许多灵长目动物向单胎生育的转变至少发生在 5000 万年前,这导致了身体和大脑逐渐进化得越来越大。 再根据最后一段“The findings don’t mean that having twins today is a disadvantage. That is quite a different experience from our tiny primate ancestors birthing in the trees 60 million years ago.(这些发现并不意味着如今生育双胞胎是不利的。这与我们6000万年前在树上生育后代的小型灵长目动物祖先的经历截然不同。)”可知,作者只是客观地陈述研究发现。故选B。 D In a study of 4,000 people, 56% of women described being unhappy with their physical appearance. 14. What does the underlined word “detrimental” in Paragraph 5 probably mean? A. Official. B. Harmful. C. Achievable. D. Unlimited. 15. What plays an important role in developing our self-concept? A. Experience. B. Knowledge. C. Judgment. D. Appearance. D 13. A 14. B 15. 根据第二段“The fact that 89% of women want to lose weight shows how unattainable (难以实现的) the measures of feminine (女性的) beauty are. (89%的女性想要减肥,这一事实表明,女性美的衡量标准是多么难以实现)”和“Even models who measure up to the “ideals” of beauty and fashion have also expressed dissatisfaction with their bodies. (即使是符合美丽和时尚“理想”的模特也对自己的身体表示不满)”主要围绕“有些美丽的标准对于大部分人来讲是很难实现的”展开论述,段末举Irina Shayk的例子是为了进一步证明该观点。故选D项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“a woman with model features who has a passive coping style when it comes to her body may not feel beautiful. However, a woman with less “popular” features, using an active coping method, may feel more beautiful (一个拥有模特般外貌特征但在面对自身身体时采用被动应对方式的女性,可能不会觉得自己很美。然而,一个外貌特征不太符合“流行”标准但采用积极应对方法的女性,可能会觉得自己更美。)”可知,自信的女性可能会感觉自己更美丽。故选A项。 根据划线词后面的“extreme thinness is the prototype for what women should look like. This beauty ideal, as unattainable as it is extreme (极端的瘦弱是女性应该拥有的外貌的典型模板。这种极端且难以达到的审美标准,成为了女性美的理想典范。)”和“women have experienced negative effects (女性经历了许多消极的影响。)”可知,西方关于“美”的标准是有害的,会给女性带来负面影响,划线词意为“有害的”。故选B项。 【15题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“We develop our self-concept through interactions with others. If, every day, women receive information about how their bodies should look, our self-concept will diminish (我们通过与他人的互动来形成自我概念。如果每天女性都接收到关于她们的身体应该如何的讯息,她们的自我概念就会被削弱。)”可知,周围人的评价对人的自我概念的发展有着重要影响。故选C项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 At some point, everyone has faced unkind remarks or actions. F 17. G 18. C 19. B 20. 【16题详解】 上文“At some point, everyone has faced unkind remarks or actions. (虽然有时忽视它们会起作用,但通常需要更积极的方法。)”既提到了常见的忽视方法,又引出后文要介绍积极应对的建议,与上下文逻辑连贯。故选F项。 【17题详解】 上文“Notice which style of comeback feels most natural to you. For example, if humor doesn’t feel natural, a calm response like ‘Are you finished?’ may be more effective. (注意哪种回应方式对你来说最自然。例如,如果幽默对你来说不自然,像‘你说完了吗?’这样冷静的回应可能更有效。)”强调要找到适合自己的回应方式,G选项“Use what works best for you until you can practice and use the other methods effectively. (使用最适合你的方法,直到你能有效练习并使用其他方法。)”承接上文,进一步说明先使用适合自己的方式,符合逻辑。故选G项。 【18题详解】 上文“Watch the bully’s reaction when you deliver your comeback and the reaction of others around him. Did he respond with surprise or walk away? (当你做出回应时,观察欺负者的反应以及他周围其他人的反应。他是惊讶地回应还是走开了?)”提出要观察欺负者的反应,C选项“Then the comeback style used was successful. (那么所使用的回应方式就是成功的。)”根据上文提到的欺负者的反应,得出回应方式成功的结论,逻辑合理。故选C项。 【19题详解】 下文“Sometimes comebacks can lead to more insults and even violence. Keep an eye out for signs that the person is becoming aggressive. (有时回应可能会导致更多的侮辱甚至暴力。留意那个人变得有攻击性的迹象。)”主要围绕留意暴力的身体信号展开,B选项“Watch for physical signals of violence. (留意暴力的身体信号。)”与下文内容一致,起到了总领段落的作用。故选B项。 【20题详解】 上文“If someone is bullying you regularly, get help from a teacher or a parent .(如果有人经常欺负你,向老师或家长寻求帮助。)”建议向他人寻求帮助,D选项“Bullies are less likely to pick on you if you aren’t alone. (如果你不是独自一人,欺负者就不太可能找你麻烦。)”说明寻求帮助后有人陪伴,欺负者就不敢轻易欺负你,与上文寻求帮助的内容相呼应。故选D项。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 After a recent business trip, I was heading back to my home in Northern California. A Sweet Song "Nothing will ever be the same again," Ally whispered. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: Familiar smells of the earth rose up to greet her. Some things never change, Ally thought. Quickening her pace, she hurried to the rock by the stream where she and her father used to sit and eat lunch. She sat on it, with her face toward the sun. Overhead the sky was filled with birds busily diving to gather dried grass to place in their nests. Their sweet songs echoed throughout the woods. Ally felt content for the first time in a long while. She could almost hear her father’s laughter in the gentle breeze as she listened for the sweet song of the special bird. All too soon, the sun disappeared behind thick gray clouds. Paragraph 2: Determined to start out again the next morning, she was about to head home when a ringing birdsong floated down to her. It was prettier than any she had heard before. An excited feeling bubbled up inside Ally as she searched the sky. A flash of orange dashed down and rested on a nearby branch. For a moment Ally couldn’t believe her eyes, but it was true. The tiny wood warbler just sat there, looking around, as if it were waiting for something. Ally blinked back tears. “Thanks, Dad,” she whispered slowly lifting her camera and taking careful aim. “Things will be different without you. I’ll always miss our time together, but I feel better now.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①做决定:determined to do/ make a decision/ make up one's mind to do sth. ②.回家:go back home/return home ③.四处看:look around/ look about 情绪类 ①.满足:feel content for / be satisfied with ②. Quickening her pace, she hurried to the rock by the stream where she and her father used to sit and eat lunch.(现在分词作状语,关系副词where引导的定语从句) [高分句型2]. She could almost hear her father’s laughter in the gentle breeze as she listened for the sweet song of the special bird.(as引导时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
