A well-known poem by Tang dynasty poet Du Mu tells of a scene in early April: “Rains fall heavily as Qingming comes, and pedestrians with lowered spirits (情绪) go.”
This scene takes place on Tomb Sweeping Day, also known as Qingming Festival. Tomb Sweeping Day is a traditional Chinese festival. It began in the Zhou Dynasty, over 2,500 years ago. Chinese people celebrate it to remember their ancestors (祖先). This year, it falls on April 4th. Tomb Sweeping Day became a holiday in the Chinese mainland in 2008. People have one day off for that day.
On this day, families offer food and flowers to the dead to remember the loved ones they lost. After that, they sweep the tombs and cherish (怀念) the memories of their dead family members. Tomb Sweeping Day gives us a chance to show respect to our ancestors and family members who have passed away and show that we miss them. This tradition shows that family values are an important part of Chinese culture.
Different from the sad tomb sweepers people also enjoy the hope of spring. Tomb Sweeping Day is a time when the sun shines brightly, trees and grass turn green and nature is full of life again. Since ancient times, people have followed the custom of spring outings. At this time, you can see people here and there, enjoying the spring. In some places, people love to fly kites during Tomb Sweeping Day. It is also a good time to plant trees because trees are easy to grow.

A. Friends. B. Families. C. Children. D. Walkers.
39. How can people enjoy spring during Tomb Sweeping Day?
A. By walking in the rain. B. By planting flowers. C. By sweeping tombs. D. By flying kites.

B. Tomb Sweeping Day began in the Tang Dynasty.
C. People from all over the world celebrate Tomb Sweeping Day.
D. Life values play an important role in Chinese culture.

A team of scientists are carrying out a project at the University of Greenwich in London. They are trying to find ways to make food on Mars (火星) in the future. The project is called Feeding Mars. It tries to use water, fish and fish waste to grow fruit and vegetables on Mars.
It would take at least 21 months to reach Mars, learn about its surface and return to Earth. So it would be a big help if the spacemen could grow fresh food on Mars itself.
Farming on Mars, however, will be very hard. There’s plenty of water that could be taken from ice just below the surface, but the land on Mars is missing the nutrients (养分) that living things need. The team say that they could solve the problem by growing plants and fish together. Fish waste can then be used to provide nutrients for plants.
“It is expected that you can grow lots of food, such as vegetables, salads, teas and medicinal plants on Mars,” said Dr Benz Kotzen, who leads the project. “You can even harvest (捕获) fish for food then.”
41. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 1 refer to (指的是)?
A. The future. B. The project. C. The land. D. The planet.
42. What makes it difficult to farm on Mars?
A. Ice below the surface. B. Too much fish waste.
C. The missing of living things. D. The poor land condition.
43. How does Dr Benz Kotzen feel about Feeding Mars?
A. Hopeful. B. Doubtful. C. Surprised. D. Funny.
E
It is important to keep enough energy (能量). Here are some ways to renew your energy.
Get out of bed immediately.
To feel and stay refreshed, you need to wake up and get up at the same time every day. A tip: keep the alarm far away enough so that you have to get out of bed to turn it off. That will get you moving in the morning.
Enter your day carefully.
Use those extra minutes to start the morning slowly and calmly. Begin by drinking a cup of coffee and think about three things you’re thankful for. Write them down. Throw away each negative (消极的) thought and take the place of it with a positive (积极的) one—negative feelings take a lot of mental energy.
Get moving.
Exercise can help make you stronger and healthier, so get the blood flowing early in the day if you can. If there is time for a trip to the gym or pool in the morning, that’s great!
Balance your breakfast.
Try to eat a mix of foods like whole grains, healthy fats and protein (蛋白质) to make sure your energy is enough as you go through the day. Eggs make an excellent start to the day.
Take a break from the TV.
Give yourself a weekend break to spend a few hours staying in green places instead of staying indoors. Research has found that spending time in nature can lower blood pressure and improve mental health.
44. How does the writer feel if he wakes up and gets up at the same time?
A. Interested. B. Bored. C. Tired. D. Renewed.
45. Why does the writer suggest taking the place of negative feelings with positive ones?
A. Because each of us doesn’t need negative feelings.
B. Because negative feelings may make us feel sad.
C. Because positive feelings can save us much mental energy.
D. Because negative feelings take a lot of time in our daily life.
46. Which suggestion about renewing your energy isn’t mentioned (提及) in the passage?
A. B. C. D.
47. Which is the best title of the passage?
A. The ways of dealing with health problems B. The ways of renewing the energy
C. The importance of eating breakfast D. The importance of movement

There is a well-known alley (巷子) named Liuchixiang in Tongcheng City, Anhui Province. In Qing Dynasty, there was a quarrel (争吵) between Zhang Ying’s family and the Wu family over a piece of land. Zhang Ying, an officer from Tongcheng, got a letter from his family asking for help. Instead of using his power, he replied with a poem, “A letter just for a wall. Why not give in three feet?” Zhang’s family felt ashamed and moved back three feet. Then the Wu family were moved by Zhang Ying’s generosity (慷慨). They also gave up three feet. Dear Daming,
I’m glad to hear from you, but sorry to know you’re not well. Health matters a lot, so here are some tips.
For diet, have a balanced one. Eat more fruits and vegetables which provide necessary vitamins. Avoid junk food because it’s bad for health. As for rest, ensure you get enough sleep. Going to bed and waking up regularly helps your body recover. Don’t skip exercise either. Running or walking can make you stronger. When you feel stressed, listen to music or talk to friends.
Hope you’ll get better soon.
Yours,
Tony
