Recently, a group of thin-legged robotic dogs are working to carry trash on the narrow and steep (陡峭) paths of Mount Tai. “Please don’t litter! I work very hard every day and I don’t want to be too tired,” one robot dog says in a short video. The video has received millions of likes online.
Keeping Mount Tai clean is a big headache. In 2023, there were over 8.6 million visitors and they left nearly 24,000 tons of rubbish behind. As big machines couldn’t be used there, the area has depended on porters (挑夫), also known as tiaoshong in Chinese, to carry trash up and down the mountain on foot. However, fewer people now want to do this job.
The robotic dogs, also called Unitree B2, are produced by Unitree Robotics, a Chinese technology company in Hangzhou. “The robots can carry up to 120 kilograms and can climb for four to six hours on a single charge (充电),” said Ma, a manager of Mount Tai. In a recent test run, a robotic dog finished the 9.5 kilometer route (路线) in just two hours, about twice the speed of a human climber. The robot has a built-in camera and can monitor things around so that it won’t knock into (撞到) tourists.
People had different views on the robots. Some gave a thumb-up to the use of new technology. Others worried that porters would lose their jobs. A few even joked, “Can the dogs carry tourists too?” Ma said, “Robotic dogs are of great help but they cannot fully replace (代替) humans.”
37. Why are robotic dogs working at Mount Tai?
A. To keep tourists safe. B. To pick up and carry trash.
C. To make funny videos. D. To bring more visitors.
38. Which words best describe the robotic dogs?
①heavy ②fast ③cheap ④safe
A. ①② B. ①③ C. ②③ D. ②④
39. Which of the following would Ma most likely agree with?
A. Robotic dogs could carry tourists one day. B. More porters will be needed in the future.
C. Humans are still necessary even with technology. D. Tourists love the new robotic dogs.
40. What is the best title for this passage?
A. Robots Are Changing Mount Tai B. Porters and Robots Work Together on Mount Tai
C. Robotic Dogs Help Clean Mount Tai D. New Technology Makes Mount Tai Popular

Spring Outing in Chongqing
Recently, teachers from Xiushan and Wulong take students to go on spring outings. Over 1, 500 teenagers cook meals outdoors and learn about nature. The outdoor activity quickly becomes popular online.
Ms. Yang, a geography teacher from Wulong, says, “When students measured (测量) the karst caves (溶洞), they finally understood their textbook diagrams (图解).” She thinks students can get close to nature and enjoy the beautiful spring scenery during the outing. In this way, it also helps them relax and reduce study pressure (压力).
Many parents also share happy moments on Douyin, saying things like, “My daughter learned to identify (辨认) 20 plants, and she’s never cooked before!” They believe it is good for children’s independence (独立) and can make them happier. However, some parents worry about it. Mr. Li comments, “Is it safe to play with fire? Schools should focus on classroom learning.”
Lily, a student, shares her experience on social media. “I’ve learned so much during this spring outing,” she says. “When we were measuring the karst caves, I really understood those abstract (抽象的) diagrams in the textbooks. It was such a great feeling to put what we learned in the real-world.” Moreover, cooking with my classmates and teachers outside makes me feel closer to them.
Now, more schools follow the Ministry of Education’s “comprehensive practice activities” policy (综合实践活动). How can we balance classroom learning with outdoor activities?
