On a hill 6oo feet above the surrounding land, we watch the lines of rain move across the
scene, the moon rise over the hills, and the stars appear in the sky. The views invite a long
look from a comfortable chair in front of the wooden house.
Every window in our wooden house has a view, and the forest and lakes seldom look the
same as the hour before. Each look reminds us where we are. (Paragraph 2)
There is space for our three boys to play outside, to shoot arrows, collect tree seeds
build earth houses and climb trees.
Our kids have learned the names of the trees, and with the names have come familiarity
and appreciation. As they tell all who show even a passing interest, maple(枫树) makes the
best fighting sticks and white pines are the best climbing trees
The air is clean and fresh. The water from the well has a pleasant taste, and it is perhaps
the healthiest water our kids will ever drink. Though they have one glass a day of juice and
the rest is water, they never say anything against that.
The seasons change just outside the door. We watch the maples turn every shade of
yellow and red in the fall and note the poplars (杨树) putting out the first green leaves of
spring. The rainbow smelt fills the local steam as the ice gradually disappears, and the wood
frogs start to sing in pools after being frozen for the winter. A family of birds rules our sky
and flies over the lake

In the early 19oOs, American chemist Harvey W. Wiley led the famous "Poison Sauad"
experiment, which showed the dangers of uncontrolled food additives(添加剂) and made
people realize the importance of knowing what was in the food they bought. However, it
wasn't until almost 90 years later that a law asked companies to display what was really
1_ the boxes, cans, and bags in American grocery stores. Then, consumers(消费者)
had clear information to help them make healthier choices
Today, it's hard to imagine walking around a supermarket without these labels. Yet when
we browse the internet - another necessary marketplace in our lives - there is 2
information about what we are "consuming" with each click. We're taking in huge amounts of
digital information, often without any idea of its "nutritional" content
Just like nutrition labels (营养标签) that help you make better choices about what enters
your body, content labels can help you take control of what gets into your 3. This will
reduce harmful behavior such as useless surfing and time wasted on meaningless browsing.
With social media platforms under attack for creating bad feelings, a content labeling
system could offer users a much-needed tool to make healthier digital choices
4 , U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy recently suggested warning labels for
online platforms. Much like cigarette packages, they should tell users about the 5of
browsing harmful content. What's more, that's not enough - we also need instructions
Content labels provide those. They offer a way for users to control their "diets" on the
Internet.
With the help of these tools, we could 6 content labels before diving into a news

D. Answer the questions.(根据短文内容回答问题)(6分)
"Hello! I said to myself today that if I did five handstands, it would be an excellent year
and I did!" Thus began the 4l-volume (and counting) diary of my life, It was I984 and I was
14, feeling myway through adolescence(青少年时期).
Most of the diaries have lair
unrcad since I wrote them. Yet every morning. I hold my pen and write up the yesterday
You pay more attention to the world when you know you'll be writing it up. I recorded:
pony-tailed metalworker from Canada who shared the same singers with me and a
middle-aged woman in a waiting room who described to me her lively garden. I want to write
about even the dullest day because the ordinary things of today will be tomorrow's history.
The past still lives on in those pages, and I can feel it closing over me if I look back on
them. Recently, I read every day of my university years. It was like reading a novel about
someone else. I read of difficult situations I no longer recalled and of dramas whose endings I
had forgotten. Long-lost friends danced to a Swedish pop group in my student room, and
long-dead voices spoke again. When I closed the diary, I felt like I went into a different
century, a different home and a different family, and surprised at the years that had brought
me here.
It's a weighty business recording a life, yet it has taught me not to take myself too
seriously. When painful moments are written down, I can more easily let them go. Seeing life
as a story with an unknown number of chapters to write is both exciting and frightening.
