The best we can do is make educated guesses based on past and current trends. The occupations below are probably some of the most promising future careers. Personal education guide Compared with online programs today, education could be better able to meet individual needs, even with improved convenience. Like an adviser, a personal education guide may assist people with on-demand course selection or the planning of personalized training. Custom body part producer Doctors may expect custom organs grown or 3D printed using their patients’ own cells. After all, scientists’ creation of hearts, kidneys, and livers has already had some success in the labs. Even external body parts like skin and ears have been grown. Pharmaceutical artisan (制药师) The increasing popularity of 3D printing may enable the quick production of customized medications based on individual needs. It’s possible that the drugs would be created according to one’s unique genes, habits, and medical history. Brain implant specialist We are making greater progress in understanding how the complex human brain works, so it’s highly possible that we would create something amazing by combining the rapid advances in neuroscience (神经系统科学) with the advantages of computer technology. In the future, one can have a specialized computer chip put into his brain to treat certain health issues, such as mood disorders. 1. Who helps people to be more competitive? A. A personal education guide. B. A custom body part producer. C. A pharmaceutical artisan. D. A brain implant specialist. 2. What is the main duty of pharmaceutical artisans? A. To promote 3D printing. B. To develop personalized medications. C. To speed up medicine production. D. To apply technology to tests for diseases. 3. What do the four future jobs have in common? A. They are informative. B. They are entertaining. C. They are customer-based. D. They are labor-saving. A 2. B 3. 根据Personal education guide部分中“Compared with online programs today, education could be better able to meet individual needs, even with improved convenience. Like an adviser, a personal education guide may assist people with on-demand course selection or the planning of personalized training.(与如今的在线课程相比,教育甚至在提高便利性的同时,还能更好地满足个人需求。就像顾问一样,个人教育指导者可以帮助人们进行按需课程选择或个性化培训的规划)”可知,个人教育指导者能帮助人们选择课程和规划培训,从而让人们更有竞争力。所以帮助人们更具竞争力的是个人教育指导者。故选A项。 根据Pharmaceutical artisan (制药师) 部分中“The increasing popularity of 3D printing may enable the quick production of customized medications based on individual needs. It’s possible that the drugs would be created according to one's unique genes, habits, and medical history.(3D 打印技术越来越普及,这可能使根据个人需求快速生产定制药物成为可能。这些药物有可能是根据一个人独特的基因、习惯和病史来制造的)”可知,制药师的主要职责是开发个性化的药物。“customized medications based on individual needs”和“created according to one’s unique genes, habits, and medical history”都表明了药物是个性化的。 根据Personal education guide部分中“assist people with on-demand course selection or the planning of personalized training(帮助人们进行按需课程选择或个性化培训的规划)”;Custom body part producer部分中“Doctors may expect custom organs grown or 3D printed using their patients’ own cells.(医生可能期望使用患者自身的细胞培育或 3D 打印定制器官)”;Pharmaceutical artisan (制药师)部分中“enable the quick production of customized medications based on individual needs(使根据个人需求快速生产定制药物成为可能)”;Brain implant specialist部分中“one can have a specialized computer chip put into his brain to treat certain health issues, such as mood disorders.(一个人可以在他的大脑中植入一个专门的计算机芯片来治疗某些健康问题,比如情绪障碍)”可知,这四种未来的工作都是基于客户的需求来开展的,都具有以客户为基础的特点。故选C项。 B It was a Sunday night. I circled the belghbbhood a few times, looking for a place to park my car. Finally, I found one to the south of my house. It was behind a late-model Jeep. I tried to back into the space, but I failed to see the angles clearly. I heard it before I felt it, the sound of plastic on plastic, like a sheet of sandpaper along the surface of a painted piece of wood. I got out of my car to check the damage. My car was unharmed. However, there were two distinct lines on the Jeep. Then I noticed a woman, walking her dog, who was now photographing me with her phone. “Hope you’re no planning to drive away,” she said quietly. Until then, I was annoyed with myself for having been careless, but now I was mad with her for taking my picture. How dare she, I thought. She had no respect for my privacy. And how dare she assume I would do the wrong thing? But soon I calmed down because I knew she wasn’t entirely incorrect. I’d made no decision to drive away without leaving ante but I’d be lying if I said the idea hadn’t flashed across my mind. It was dark, and aside from her no one was watching. It happens all the time-the hit-and-run in the parking lot. We all have those desires to behave selfishly, to go against the social contract; it is not the thought but what we do with it that counts. It is the commitment to take responsibility, to care for one another, and to think about the greater good that makes this world a better place to stay. The choice to own up was left to me. I left a note with my name and phone number under the wiper blade of the Jeep. 4. What happened to the author on that Sunday night? A. He knocked down someone. B. He got hurt in a car accident C. He hit a parked car accidentally. D. He failed to find a parking space. 5. Why did the author feel angry with the woman? A. She blocked his view on purpose. B. She spoke to him in a very rude way C. She photographed him without permission. D. She refused to take responsibility for her fault. 6. What does the underlined phrase “own up” in the last paragraph mean? A. Admit. B. Occupy. C. Disappear. D. Refuse. 7. What does the author intend to tell us through his story? A. Everyone makes mistakes. B. Always do the right thing. C. Avoid conflicts with others. D. Apologizing sincerely matters. C 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第一段的“I tried to back into the space, but I failed to see the angles clearly. I heard it before I felt it, the sound of plastic on plastic, like a sheet of sandpaper along the surface of a painted piece of wood.(我试图倒回到车位里,但我看不清角度。在我感觉到它之前,我听到了它的声音,塑料对塑料的声音,就像一张砂纸沿着一块油漆过的木头表面。)”可知,那个星期天的晚上,作者意外地撞上了一辆停着的车,故选C。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段的“but now I was mad with her for taking my picture(但现在我对她拍我的照片很生气)”可知,作者对这个女人感到生气是因为她未经允许就给作者拍照。 根据最后一段的“I left a note with my name and phone number under the wiper blade of the Jeep.(我在吉普车的雨刷下留下了一张写有我名字和电话号码的纸条。)” 根据最后一段的“We all have those desires to behave selfishly, to go against the social contract; it is not the thought but what we do with it that counts. It is the commitment to take responsibility, to care for one another, and to think about the greater good that makes this world a better place to stay.(我们都有自私、违背社会契约的欲望;重要的不是思想,而是我们如何利用思想。是承担责任的承诺,是相互关心的承诺,是为使这个世界成为一个更美好的地方而考虑更大的利益的承诺。)”可知,作者想通过他的故事告诉我们要永远做正确的事。故选B。 C When we speak of a person being independent, what do we mean? Usually, we take it to mean that as a person achieves adulthood, they become capable of being independent. The process begins as a young child. Their level of independence increases as they pass through the various stages of growing up. As adulthood approaches, they will have gained a lot of experience that will make for a smooth transition into the adult world. Naturally, we will grow apart from our parents as we grow older. Breaking those ties enables us to step into the real world and function there as fully-capable people. We need to develop independence in every aspect of our lives. The more independent you are, the more confident you will become. Having confidence gives you a positive outlook on life. You can try new ventures, and so gain more experience. This becomes self-fulfilling, for the more experiences you have, the more your confidence will grow. The more your confidence grows, then you gain even more experience. The greater your confidence, the greater your chances of big rewards for your efforts will be. When facing the challenging situations throughout the course of your lives, handling your emotions without turning to others is a mark of being mature and independent. Keeping our emotions from controlling our lives is essential. If your emotions are under control, you will have a sense of contentment and calm. Stress is reduced, and you become happier. When you are independent, you can lead a more free social life, pursue (追求) the career that you want, and undertake activities that appeal to you. You will grow, have a better understanding of the ways of the world, and become more knowledgeable. Your independence will allow you to follow your instincts (本能) and satisfy your curiosity without others holding you back. When you can act independently in each of these areas of your life, then you will have become a mature adult with a positive attitude towards everything you do. 8. What helps young children enter adulthood smoothly according to the text? A. Rich life experience. B. Good school education. C. Close relationship with parents. D. Understanding of independence. 9. What does the author intend to show in paragraph 3? A. Doing risky activities requires much effort. B. You are capable of getting big rewards of life. C. Being independent can boost your confidence. D. It's never too old to develop a positive outlook on life. 10. What does it mean to be able to keep your emotions under control? A. You struggle to have inner peace. B. You allow stress to drive your life. C. You have a deep sense of gratitude. D. You gain your emotional independence. 11. What is the best title for the text? A. What results in maturity? B. How can we pursue our growth? C. Why is independence important? D. Why is confidence equal to success? A 9. C 10. D 11. 根据第一段最后一句“As adulthood approaches, they will have gained a lot of experience that will make for a smooth transition into the adult world.(随着成年的临近,他们将获得大量的经验,这将有助于顺利过渡到成人世界)”可知,丰富的生活经验有助于年轻人顺利进入成年期。故选A项。 根据第三段第一句“The more independent you are, the more confident you will become.(你越独立,就会变得越自信)”以及后面的内容“Having confidence gives you a positive outlook on life. You can try new ventures, and so gain more experience.(有信心会让你对生活有积极的看法。你可以尝试新的冒险,从而获得更多的经验)”可知,作者在第三段想要展示的是独立能够提升自信。故选C项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段第一句“When facing the challenging situations throughout the course of your lives, handling your emotions without turning to others is a mark of being mature and independent.(在你一生面临挑战的情况下,不求助于他人就能处理好自己的情绪是成熟和独立的标志)”可知,能够控制自己的情绪意味着获得了情感上的独立。 D Graduate students struggling to survive the cost of living crisis have been advised by their university to take on extra work, such as fruit-picking, making deliveries, or selling make-up. PhD students in a research program from University of East Anglia (UEA) were sent the suggestion on Wednesday, setting off shock and anger among the research community. The research program aims to create “leaders in the science and sustainable business of the natural environment”. Dr Addy Lowe, a former PhD student, said, “It's insulting and as if they don’t really care. I think the reality is that PhD students aren’t taken very seriously in this country. They are advising governments, at the forefront of tackling climate change and developing groundbreaking medical research. In reality, they are people with a lot of responsibilities.” Prof Jenni Barclay, the director of the research program, said, “Firstly and clearly, we are sorry for any offence caused. The primary concern here is the cost-of-living crisis and its great impact on our research students. Action is needed soon. Many students are reporting extreme financial difficulties now.” She said the intention of the suggestion “was to provide support as a temporary measure” while the university works out how to persuade UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), which oversees (监管) the most respected research councils and is the country's largest funder. The UKRI has proposed a 2.9% rise in student stipends (助学金)next academic year, which is below inflation (通胀率). Graduate students have warned that could push them into poverty. The Natural Environment Research Council, which funds the UEA program, said the suggestion sent to students “does not reflect” its position. A spokeswoman added, “We do recognize the effect the increased cost of living is having on students and we are looking to see if we can provide further financial support.” 12. Why were graduate students advised to undertake extra work? A. To enrich their learning experience. B. To gain first-hand knowledge of life. C. To help cover the rising living costs. D. To learn how to volunteer in society. 13. How did the research community respond to the suggestion? A. They felt rather hopeless. B. They didn’t take it seriously. C. They couldn’t agree more with it. D. They felt very surprised and upset. 14. What could be the real solution to helping students financially? A. Turning to UKRI for more fund. B. Persuading PhD students to work part-time. C. Taking out short-term bank loans. D. Asking the government to control inflation. 15. What can be inferred about the proposed rise in student stipend? A. It can hardly cover students’ living costs. B. It will compensate for the low inflation. C. It will have a sharp increase next academic year. D. It keeps students above the poverty line. C 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第一段“Graduate students struggling to survive the cost of living crisis have been advised by their university to take on extra work, such as fruit-picking, making deliveries, or selling make-up.(在生活成本危机中挣扎求生的研究生们被他们的大学建议去做额外的工作,比如摘水果、送货或卖化妆品。)” 根据第一段“PhD students in a research program from University of East Anglia (UEA) were sent the suggestion on Wednesday, setting off shock and anger among the research community.(东英吉利大学(UEA)一个研究项目的博士生在周三收到了这一建议,在研究界引起了震惊和愤怒。)” 根据第四段“She said the intention of the suggestion “was to provide support as a temporary measure” while the university works out how to persuade UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), which oversees (监管) the most respected research councils and is the country's largest funder.(她说,这一建议的意图是“作为一种临时措施提供支持”,同时该大学正在研究如何说服英国研究与创新署(UKRI),该机构监管着最受尊敬的研究委员会,也是该国最大的资助者。)” 故选A项。 根据最后一段“The UKRI has proposed a 2.9% rise in student stipends (助学金) next academic year, which is below inflation (通胀率). Graduate students have warned that could push them into poverty.(英国研究与创新署(UKRI)提议下一学年学生助学金提高2.9%,这低于通货膨胀率。研究生们警告说,这可能会使他们陷入贫困。)”可知,助学金的增长低于通货膨胀率,这可能会让学生陷入贫困,由此可以推断出这几乎无法支付学生的生活费用。故选A项。 How to Remember What You Read How often have you read a book from start to finish, only to discover that you haven’t remembered very much of the information it contains? This can happen when you read whatever type of book.(你有多少次从头到尾读完一本书,却发现自己没有记住书中包含的很多信息?无论你读什么类型的书,这种情况都会发生)”以及后文“You can remember the important content of a book by following some simple methods. 【17题详解】 根据后文“This act of writing will help you remember the information better. You can also write down ideas that come to mind as you read. This is a form of active reading, which helps you better understand the material instead of just taking it in passively. Active reading will help you absorb and remember the material better.(这种写作方式可以帮助你更好地记住信息。 Try to only highlight important and relevant information. For example, stress just a few key words on a page. Before you stress something, ask yourself, “Does this information satisfy my purpose of reading the material?”(突出重要概念。 Creating mental pictures for the content you read will help you remember the content better than just reading the content without any mental images. Make mental pictures of important events, concepts or people.(在图像中思考。 【20题详解】 根据后文“After you read something, talk about the new information with a friend , family member or classmate. The act of discussing the content will create new associations in your memory. It will also help you see which information you have understood and remembered, and which you haven’t.(阅读后,与朋友、家人或同学谈论新信息。 The stage lights dimmed (变昏暗), and I took a quick look from behind the heavy black curtains into the audience. It would be a big mistake not to invite Lucy to the party. ”“She never even talks to me! ” Dad sighed and moved down the aisle ( 走廊). “Lucy is a new girl in class. She just moved here a little over a month ago. Think about how that must feel. She doesn’t know one single person in the school. She left all of her old friends behind and now she has to try to make new friends. Your party will be a great chance for her to get to know everyone. ” “No, it won’t. She will probably sit in the corner and not talk to anyone. Every day at lunch she sits all by herself. She wants to eat alone!" Madison shrugged and rolled her eyes (翻白眼). “Madison I’m done discussing this. You will invite every girl in your class, including Lucy Gilbert!" On Saturday morning, the family blew up balloons and decorated the house cheerfully. Madison was dressed beautifully for the day, wearing her new blue dress. It was not typical of her to dress herself like this. She usually wore sports clothes because she loved to be outside riding her horse Star with a lead rope (缰绳). Madison greeted her friends at the doorstep, picturing (想象)various presents her friends would bring her. In the meanwhile, she was wondering whether Lucy would ruin the party if she came. Anyhow, all the girls she invited came finally, including Lucy. The girls had a fantastic time by singing and dancing while Lucy sat in the corner silently alone. That’s when I got the idea of making you a lead rope. ” Deeply moved by what she said, Madison held the lead rope tightly in her hands. It was the most beautiful birthday present she ever received. D Graduate students struggling to survive the cost of living crisis have been advised by their university to take on extra work, such as fruit-picking, making deliveries, or selling make-up. B To gain first-hand knowledge of life. C. To help cover the rising living costs. D. “Madison, I’m done discussing this. You will invite every girl in your class, including Lucy Gilbert!" On Saturday morning, the family blew up balloons and decorated the house cheerfully. Madison was dressed beautifully for the day, wearing her new blue dress.
