Last weekend, my family went to the Yellowstone National Park. There, we saw a mother wolf and her baby come toward us, then settle down to rest, completely relaxed with us being nearby. And the feeling is mutual (相互的). My mother, who was anxious about being near such large predators (捕食者) an hour ago, now relaxed so much that she fell asleep on the grass, too.
The Yellowstone can only be accessed by land or air. Its faraway site helps keep wildlife viewing safe. Our guide, Johnson, told us that the common view of wolves as dangerous predators hunting for meat only showed part of the picture. The Yellowstone spring sees wolves eat small animals like rabbits and mice, and they also look for birds and fish. From late June to September, they go to forests to hunt for deer, but they sometimes eat plants when other food is not enough.
Each time we saw a wolf, Johnson reminded us to read its behavior. If the wolf appeared relaxed, we can watch for a while from a safe distance. As responsible visitors, we must never let it get too close, and never let even a bit of our food fall to the ground. Johnson learned this the hard way after a wolf entered a wooden house and stayed near the door for days, expecting more after finding food. Besides, we must also avoid affecting the wolves while they feed.
“What do you think people get out of seeing wolves?” I asked Johnson. “I’ve watched visitors go from unsure to amazed, then comfortable, and then caring and thinking. Hopefully they learn to share space with wild animals. Those who don’t learn to share don’t grow alongside each other. And those who share, do,” he says.
This experience teaches us the importance of living in harmony with wildlife and understanding their behaviors. It shows that by respecting and observing nature, we can get a deeper appreciation for the world around us.
4. Why did the author’s mother fall asleep?
A. She was bored with the wolves. B. She was advised to rest by the guide.
C. She felt comfortable in the environment. D. She didn’t want to trouble the wolves.
5. What does paragraph 2 mainly focus on?
A. Wolves’ attacking actions. B. The variety in wolves’ diet.
C. The faraway site of Yellowstone. D. Changes in seasons in Yellowstone.
6. What should a responsible visitor do when observing wolves?
A. Leave food on the ground. B. Help wolves find more food.
C. Stay outside a wooden house. D. Watch wolves from a safe distance.
7. What message does the author want to express?
A. Coexist peacefully with wildlife. B. Care for wolves with heart.
C. Learn from wolves to survive in the wild. D. Increase habitats for wildlife.

Inside an amazing show center in Beijing, a two-armed robot is busy making sugar paintings. Its smooth movements attract a crowd of visitors. The robot is acting as a “skilled worker” of this traditional art of Beijing. But the machine also acts as both a witness (见证) to and a guide for the increasing mix of fields of knowledge that come from different places. This mix challenges the limits of time and geography.
At the show, hundreds of experts from home and abroad are considering the relationship between cultural heritage and new technologies. For many, the promotion of traditional culture is one of the areas in which technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) can play a key role.
“AI helps pass on culture,” said Guo Chunchao, head of Tencent’s Hunyuan Text to 3D project. Yu Minjing, a teacher at Tianjin University, agreed with him. She led her team to use VR technology to conduct a firework show and make traditional Hanfu clothes. “With AI, the inheritance (传承) of traditional culture can solve the limits of space and geography, which helps traditional skills that used to be taught by talking, to be spread more widely and better,” she said.
“The mix of AI technology with VR, 3D and other technologies has also helped create cloud walking-around experiences, attracting young people to traditional culture,” Guo said.
However, some experts warned that while technology is important for preservation, it’s even more important to think about the people in the process.
Renata Sansone, from Italy, said that some archaeological sites are very difficult for everybody to understand, but the use of technologies may make a difference in getting more people involved and playing their part in protection. Many Chinese experts agree with her. Yu Minjing thinks that saving and passing on cultural relics should focus on people. How much people like and accept it is very important for protecting cultural relics well.
8. Why is the robot mentioned in paragraph 1?
A. To introduce the challenges the robot faces.
B. To call for people to protect traditional cultures.
C. To praise sugar paintings’ role in cultural protection.
D. To show a new function of technology in traditional culture.
9. What is the main reason for Yu Minjing’s team using AI and VR technologies?
A. Solving space problems in culture sharing.
B. Making new technologies develop well.
C. Attracting more young people to their show.
D. Taking the place of old teaching methods.
10. Which of the following statements would Renata Sansone agree with?
A. Schools will play a key role in cultural protection.
B. Archaeological sites are best explored with technology.
C. It’s important to make the public join in cultural protection.
D. Cloud walking-around has become a major way to experience culture.
11. What’s the best title for the text?
A. The Popular Rise of Robot Artists
B. The Role of Technology in Cultural Protection
C. The Influence of AI on Cultural Exchange
D. The Future Development of Traditional Skills

Joan Feynman, born in 1927 in Queens, New York, was the younger sister of the famous physicist Richard Feynman. Growing up, Richard played a key role in developing Joan’s curiosity and scientific interest, teaching her advanced mathematics and science. At the age of five, she was already assisting him in his experiments.
For her fourteenth birthday, Richard gifted Joan a college-level physics textbook, Astronomy by Rebecca Horace Baker. This book not only deepened her understanding of physics but also showed her the possibilities for women in the field of science. Inspired by this, Joan pursued a rigorous academic path, which means she chose to study in a way that requires a lot of hard work, self-control, and responsibility. Later, she successfully earned a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College and later a PhD in 1958.
Despite her academic success, Joan took a stop from physics in 1960 to focus on her family, marrying and raising two children. However, this period was ended by a sense of depression (抑郁), leading her to seek employment in 1962. Following an expert’s advice, she secured three job offers and chose to work part-time at Lamont, where she began her research into Earth’s magnetosphere (磁层), making significant contributions to its understanding. It was her determination to explore science that helped Joan regain her mental health.
Joan’s career was marked by numerous scientific breakthroughs, particularly in the study of solar wind and its interaction with Earth’s magnetosphere. As author or co-author of more than 185 papers, Joan’s research achievements range from discovering the shape of the Earth’s magnetosphere to identifying the origin of auroras (极光). In 1974, she made history as the first woman elected as an officer of the American Geophysical Union, and in 2000, she was honored with NASA’s Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal.
“Joan Feynman leaves a wealth of scientific achievements,” said American Physical Society (APS) CEO Kate Kirby. “Despite being discouraged to explore science by social expectations, she stuck to it, and her achievements serve as an inspiration to women who wish to pursue a career in science.”
12. How did Richard influence Joan?
A By preparing her for subjects in college.
B. By introducing her to the world of science.
C. By teaching her the importance of experiments.
D. By offering her a job serving as his lab assistant.
13. What does the underlined word “rigorous” mean in paragraph 2?
A. Strict. B. External. C. Intelligent. D. Diverse.
14. What message can be inferred from the passage?
A. Joan Feynman was a key member of APS.
B. Richard designed Joan’s career path as a mathematician.
C. Working for scientific goals contributed to Joan’s mental health.
D. In Joan’s time women were encouraged to become scientists.
15. Which of the following words can best describe Joan Feynman as a scientist?
A. Successful and wealthy. B. Outgoing and hardworking.
C. Generous and determined. D. Productive and respectable.

Unbreakable
My brother and I were playing a game of tag in the house. “Tag! You’re it!”, shouted Alim and ran as fast as his 5-year-old legs could carry him. I chased closely behind. I watched him jump over the sofa and landed, falling sideways to hit our Mom’s favourite vase, the one late Grandpa gave her on her wedding day, off the side table. SMASH!! Alim burst into tears almost at the same time the vase broke. I was equally alarmed said “Ha! Alim, you are in trouble.” This made Alim cry more, “Mummy is going to beat me!”
He was crying so much that I felt sorry for him. Just then Mom came into the house. I rushed over to Alim’s side. “What is this? Who broke my vase?” My Mom shouted. Her eyes were wide open and bright with terrible anger. Alim tried to say something through his tears but I started to clean his wet face with my hand and I said, “I am so sorry, Mom. I broke the vase and told Alim that I would say it was him.” My Mom pulled me by my left ear and dragged me to our room. Alim followed quietly behind. My Mom said, “That’s it. You are grounded for the rest of the holiday.” As she closed the room door on me, I saw Alim’s face in the corner, his eyes very big, looking straight at me.
The door was shut and I felt very alone in the room as I nursed my painful ear. Why did I do that? I thought. Alim should be the one taking the punishment, not me. Humph. He owes me big time. I fell asleep thinking of the ways I could get back at Alim. I woke up suddenly with the realization that Alim was not in the room with me. He had not come to bed. I tiptoed out of the room to look for him. The house was quiet and dark and I was beginning to worry when I noticed the light through the kitchen door.

A. By preparing her for subjects in college.
B. By introducing her to the world of science.
C. By teaching her the importance of experiments.
D. By offering her a job serving as his lab assistant.
13. What does the underlined word “rigorous” mean in paragraph 2?

【答案】When I got there, Alim was picking out the pieces of the vase from the garbage bag. He put the different pieces on the ground, and then carefully pieced them together according to the color of the pattern. It's hard for Alim, because it takes patience and perseverance, but Alim doesn't give up. He tries patiently, and I can see the joy on his face every time he finishes a piece. I knew this time he really knew he was wrong. He wanted to put the vase together so that my mother wouldn't blame me again. At the thought of this my anger disappeared. I slipped back into the bedroom, hoping I hadn't disturbed him.
The next morning Mum walked into our room and stopped as she saw the “new” vase. Mother was not surprised that the vase had been restored. She called over both of us and asked us who had broken the vase and who had repaired it. This time Mr Alim voluntarily admitted his mistake. At that moment, Mom hugged us and said “I shouldn't have punished you so impulsively. I actually saw Alim's efforts last night. That moved me. ”It was then that we both realized how much she loved us. And that's when my relationship with Alim became unbreakable.
