Why do we have tears when we cry? Scientists have been trying to answer this question for centuries. Till now, one thing is clear. There are different kinds of tears: basal tears (基底眼泪), reflex tears (反射眼泪) and emotional tears. And the studies show emotional tears are the most of all. They are caused by strong feelings.
Tears are easy to appear (出现). In fact, you make 15 to 30 gallons (加仑) of tears each year. Being moved by a moving movie, being away from home for the first time or seeing a loved friend off can all cause tears.
Tears have many roles. “The role of tears may be more important than its physical effects (物理作用)” says Lauren Bylsma, a PhD in University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Bylsma found out that people are more likely to feel better after crying. It is common (普遍的) that some people may cry when they know they are wrong. After crying, people can feel better.
But people who try to hold back their tears or cry without tears won’t feel better after crying. So next time when you want to cry, just do it.
31. How does the writer start the text?

B. Everyone makes 30 gallons of tears a day.
C. Holding back tears isn’t good for people.

Scientists from the Virginia Tech University in the USA believe the smell of our bodies could attract mosquitoes (蚊子). This includes (包括) smells from our bodies and from soaps (肥皂). Some of these smells could also help reduce (减少) the number of bites (叮咬) we get in the summer.
The scientists said mosquitoes seemed to like soaps with a flowery smell. The lead scientist said over 60% of the smells from our bodies come from soaps rather than natural bodies. He said that changing the soaps we use could change how attractive we are to mosquitoes. Soaps with no smell could make us less tasty (没那么可口) to mosquitoes. The scientists tested the effects (影响) of four popular kinds of soaps on mosquitoes. They studied the smells of different people after they used each soap, and when they did not wash themselves. Then the researchers recreated the soapy and unwashed smells and put them in two different cups in a box full of mosquitoes. The mosquitoes seemed to like the flowery smells from the soapy cups. Mosquitoes may be like humans because they are attracted by flowery smells.
One scientist gave some advice. He said, “I would like a soap without smell if I wanted to reduce mosquito attraction.” Mosquitoes are one of the world’s most dangerous creatures (生物). The diseases (疾病) they carry can kill about 725,000 people every year.
36. What’s the meaning of the underlined word “attract” in Chinese?
