When Marybeth Hearn was 10 years old, she asked her parents to let her train a dog to become a guide dog. It turned into a lifelong thing. Over more than fifty years, Hearn has raised 56 dogs to help visually impaired (视力受损的) people. But her influence doesn’t end there — the longtime high school teacher has encouraged several of her family members and some of her students to train many more.
When she looked to her parents for support years ago, things were different from what she expected. Her mom didn’t like dogs, and her dad doubted she would be able to find any money to pay for the cost of the training. However, Hearn presented the project at a Lions Club and raised $2, 500. So on a sunny summer day in 1962, the family drove home with a black Lab named Letta, the first of a long series of dog trainees.
Two sons and a granddaughter have followed in Hearn’s footsteps, but her greatest influence has come from guiding student trainers, who since 1992 have worked through a school club with 170 dogs that ended up in different service posts. They spend 14 months with each dog teaching them skills. The dogs live full-time with the students, attending their classes and field trips to become socialized.
The dogs then go to trainers employed by Guide Dogs for the Blind, an organization that partners with the program, before graduating and being paired with two-legged companions. Those that aren’t up to the difficult task of helping the blind can become other kinds of service animals. Often students attend the graduations and help pass the dogs on.
“I love seeing the look on kids’ faces ... when they get to see that dog again after three or four months and the dog remembers them,” Hearn said. “It’s a great feeling.”
24. What has Hearn done since she was a child?
A. She has collected money for the blind.
B. She has trained dogs to help the blind.
C. She has petted and cared for many homeless dogs.
D. She has provided the blind with education for free.
25. What was the attitude of Hearn’s dad towards her plan?
A. Mad. B. Uncaring. C. Unacceptable. D. Supportive.
26. If a dog fails to help the blind after graduation, it will _____.
A. continue to be trained
B. be taken away as a pet
C. live full-time with Hearn’s students
D. become another kind of service animal
27. Which of the following can best describe Hearn?
A. Honest and hard-working.
B. Strong-minded and caring.
C. Outgoing and careful.
D. Strict and creative.
B 25. C 26. D 27. B

Beethoven is undoubtedly one of the greatest musicians. He completed 722 musical works. Unfortunately, the master died while still working on his Tenth Symphony (交响曲). Now, a team of musicians and scientists have used artificial intelligence (AI) to complete the artist’s final composition.
Dr. Matthias first came up with the idea to complete the composition in 2019. He thought it was an appropriate way to celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday in December 2020. He began by enlisting an international team of music experts to help him with the giant task. They included the music composer Walter and Dr. Ahmed, the creator of an innovative AI technology for the art market.
Ahmed and his colleagues started the process by familiarizing the AI software initially with a broad range of classical music, and then, narrowed it down to just Beethoven’s work. Meanwhile, Walter and his group tried to interpret the rough drafts and the handful of notes that detailed Beethoven’s plans for the Tenth Symphony.
The team then began the slow and careful task of feeding the AI software musical notes from the unfinished composition. To stay true to Beethoven’s original composition, Ahmed’s team sent Walter hundreds of AI-generated musical note variations every evening. Walter would listen to them and then select the one that he thought was closest to what the artist would have written. The AI team would add the music and rerun the software to generate the next suggestions. And piece by piece, the team was able to complete Beethoven’s Tenth Symphony!
The composition was first released on October 9, 2021. Not surprisingly, it caused some controversy (争议). Critics believe technology should not be used to replicate the human creative process. Ahmed and his team agree with their opinions and say their AI software is not out to replace humans — it is just a tool to help artists to express themselves in new ways.
28. What is the purpose of the writer in writing paragraph 1?
A. To voice his greatest respect for Beethoven.
B. To compare traditional music and AI music.
C. To present the team’s hard work.
D. To introduce an innovative method to create music.
29. Which can be used to best describe the team’s work?
A Inspiring B. Steady C. Challenging D. Boring
30. What does the underlined word “replicate” in the last paragraph mean?
A. question B. copy C. direct D. speed
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Beethoven’s Tenth Symphony Is Eventually Staged
B. AI Helps Complete Beethoven’s Unfinished Symphony
C. A Team of Experts Completed an Impossible Mission
D. A Controversial Way Successfully Interprets Beethoven’s Music
D 29. C 30. B 31. B
根据文章第一段“Beethoven is undoubtedly one of the greatest musicians. He completed 722 musical works. Unfortunately, the master died while still working on his Tenth Symphony (交响曲). Now, a team of musicians and scientists have used artificial intelligence (AI) to complete the artist’s final composition.(贝多芬无疑是最伟大的音乐家之一。他完成了722部音乐作品。不幸的是,这位大师在创作他的第十交响曲时去世了。现在,一个由音乐家和科学家组成的团队使用人工智能(AI)完成了这位艺术家的最终作品)”和文章第二段“Dr. Matthias first came up with the idea to complete the composition in 2019.(马蒂亚斯博士在2019年首次提出了完成这一合成的想法)”可推知,第一段的主要目的是为了介绍一种创新的音乐创作方法。
根据文章第二段中“He began by enlisting an international team of music experts to help him with the giant task.(他首先召集了一个国际音乐专家团队来帮助他完成这项艰巨的任务)”和第三段“Ahmed and his colleagues started the process by familiarizing the AI software initially with a broad range of classical music, and then, narrowed it down to just Beethoven’s work. Meanwhile, Walter and his group tried to interpret the rough drafts and the handful of notes that detailed Beethoven’s plans for the Tenth Symphony.(艾哈迈德和他的同事们首先让人工智能软件熟悉大量的古典音乐,然后把范围缩小到贝多芬的作品。与此同时,沃尔特和他的团队试图解读这些草稿和一些详细说明贝多芬第十交响曲计划的音符)”及文章第四段“The team then began the slow and careful task of feeding the AI software musical notes from the unfinished composition. And piece by piece, the team was able to complete Beethoven’s Tenth Symphony!(随后,团队开始了一项缓慢而细致的工作,将那首未完成作品中的音符输入人工智能软件。
根据划线词下文“Ahmed and his team agree with their opinions and say their AI software is not out to replace humans — it is just a tool to help artists to express themselves in new ways.(艾哈迈德和他的团队同意他们的观点,并表示他们的人工智能软件并不是要取代人类——它只是一个帮助艺术家以新的方式表达自己的工具)”可知,划线词所在的句子意为“批评者认为,技术不应该被用来复制人类的创造过程。”

Going against the tide of flocking to well-known tourist destinations on vacation, a growing number of holidaymakers in China tend to spend their leisure time at lesser-known attractions. Reverse tourism (逆向旅游) has appeared as a new trend among young holidaymakers in China.
According to data from an online travel agency, the number of rooms booked at hotels in less-traveled cities during the holiday was up 30 percent year-on-year. Bookings for four-star or five-star hotels in less-traveled places all increased ten times at a minimum. Some lesser-known scenic spots posted double-digit (两位数的) growth during the holiday. Baimaiquan Park in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, received 52,100 visits in the seven days, up to 15.78 percent year-over-year.
Besides crowds, some vacationers chose less-traveled places to save on the cost of trips to popular destinations. In addition, lesser-known attractions are not as “commercial” as developed ones and are able to offer more actual experiences and natural encounters.
Essentially speaking, total relaxation is becoming a real expectation for many people when they travel. Changes in demand may be the fundamental reason for the popularity of reverse tourism. COVID-19 is another key factor fueling reverse tourism. As preventive measures continue, traveling has an unpredictable quality. Travelers have thus become more cautious and tend to choose local attractions or places with fewer tourists.
“The rise of reverse tourism is not a bad thing,” said Zhengzhou Daily. It means that vacationers now have more options, which brings more possibilities to the tourism market. More importantly, it noted, the trend is set to force popular destinations to improve themselves instead of resting on their past honor.
Jiang Han, a senior researcher, said that reverse tourism will become one of the future directions for the market. To give a real boost to the tourism market, Jiang suggested that more efforts be made to tap the potential of underestimated, lesser-known destinations. It is necessary to dig deeper into the local customs and highlight the local characteristics to improve the quality of local tourism.
32. What do the statistics in paragraph 2 tell us?
A. The popularity of travel agency in China.
B. The high income of hotels during holidays.
C. The contributions of tourism to the economy.
D. The increasing trend of reverse tourism in China.
33. What may be the root cause of the rise of reverse tourism?
A. The impact of COVID-19.
B. Holidaymakers’ changing needs for travel.
C. The lower cost of heading to less-traveled places.
D. The lack of innovative improvements in famous attractions.
34. What does Zhengzhou Daily think of reverse tourism?
A. It will drop with the recovery of economy.
B. It benefits both tourists and the tourism market.
C. It is beneficial to spread local culture to tourists.
D. It blocks the development of some popular resorts.
35. What is Jiang Han’s advice on developing the tourism market?
A. Upgrading the supporting facilities in tourist areas.
B. Improving the management rules of tourist attractions further.
C. Exploring the potential and features of lesser-known attractions.
D. Promoting the local characteristics of China through online media.
D 33. B 34. B 35. C

根据上文“Many people complain that they just can’t get into reading. They say they can’t find the time or that books are boring.(许多人抱怨他们就是无法进入阅读状态。他们说他们找不到时间或者说书很无聊)”以及下文“It’s that they haven’t found the right approach.(是他们还没有找到正确的方法)”可知这里需要一个句子来表明问题的关键所在是他们还没有找到正确的方法,并非阅读本身有问题,与C项“In fact, the problem isn’t reading itself(事实上,问题不是阅读本身)”表达的含义一致。故选C项。
【37题详解】
根据上文“One of the key steps is to find the right motivation.(关键的步骤之一是找到正确的动机)”以及下文“it will become easier to stick with it.(坚持下去会变得更容易)”可知这里需要进一步说明明确动机与坚持阅读之间的关系,D项“If you can understand why you need to read(如果你能理解为什么你需要阅读)”表达的含义一致,与后文构成合理的逻辑关系,即明确了阅读动机,坚持阅读就会更容易。故选D项。
根据上文“Select books that interest you, not just the ones that seem important.(选择你感兴趣的书,而不仅仅是那些看起来重要的书)”可知此处在强调选择自己感兴趣的书籍,与E项“The key is to find something you really enjoy(关键是找到你真正喜欢的东西)”表达的含义一致。故选E项。
根据下文“So it’s necessary to join a book club or find a friend who loves reading. Discussing books with others can make the experience more enjoyable.(所以有必要加入一个读书俱乐部或者找一个爱读书的朋友。和别人讨论书能让阅读体验更愉快)”可知这里强调了找阅读伙伴的重要性,因为独自阅读可能存在一些问题,与G项“Sometimes, reading can be boring if you do it alone(有时候,如果你独自阅读会很无聊)”表达的含义一致。故选G项。
【40题详解】
根据下文“If you can make reading a habit, it becomes much easier to pick up a book. Try setting a specific time each day for reading, whether it’s in the morning or before bed. Consistency is crucial, and having a set schedule helps make reading a natural part of your day.(如果你能养成阅读的习惯,拿起一本书就会变得容易得多。尝试每天设定一个特定的阅读时间,无论是在早上还是在睡觉前。连贯性是至关重要的,有一个固定的时间表有助于使阅读成为你一天中自然的一部分)”可知该段主要讲的是要养成阅读习惯,建立固定的阅读时间,与A项“Establish a routine(建立一个常规)”表达的含义一致。故选A项。

I lost all my hair at age two due to alopecia (脱发症). All I wanted growing up was to fit in. So I wore a wig (假发). However, my classmates still found out my secret. They made fun of me, saying, “Lindsay has no hair.”
Sports became my escape, and I was fortunate to have inborn athletic ability. I became known as the girl who was good at basketball, not just as the girl who didn’t have hair. I was still laughed at by some classmates, but it began to bother me less. I put all my time and energy into basketball and becoming the best player I could be.
I had a great high-school career, breaking countless school records, and received a scholarship to play in college. However, I still wasn’t okay with my alopecia and rarely talked about it. I continued to wear my wig all the time, no matter the weather or what I was doing. College is a huge transition. I remember the first time when I built up the courage to tell an amazing friend in college about my alopecia. She was called Jennifer, who was good at running. When I told her about my alopecia, she comforted me that even without hair, I was a great girl. It was the first time that I had felt accepted by a person of my age.
After that, we supported each other and often ran together. She offered me some advice on running. With her guidance and help, I wanted to realize my dream of running marathons. I trained hard and made great progress. Jennifer advised me to run my first marathon without a wig. I wanted to do this but I was hesitant.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Two weeks later, I started my first marathon.

When the crowd saw two bald girls competing, they screamed (尖叫) in surprise.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1: Two weeks later, I started my first marathon. On the day of the competition, I saw Jennifer wearing a hat. When I approached her, I found that she had already shaved off her hair. I was surprised and moved. I knew she was encouraging me in this way. I hugged her, with tears welling up in my eyes. At the beginning of the competition, she took off her hat and I took off my wig. We smiled at each other and ran towards the finish line.
Paragraph 2: When the crowd saw two bald girls competing, they screamed (尖叫) in surprise. We ignored the voices of others and just strove to run forward. As I crossed the finish line, I threw myself at Jennifer to express my gratitude. “You did it!” she congratulated me. Meanwhile, the audience at the finish line gave us warm applause. For the first time, I felt I was brave, strong and beautiful. I felt like I finally found myself, a person who no longer needed a wig.
①看见:see/notice/observe/spot
②接近:approach/come close to/draw near to
③拥抱:hug/embrace

Four Famous Festivals in the World
Holi Festival in India
The ancient Hindu festival of Holi is held in late February and early March. This colorful act symbolizes the victory of good over evil (邪恶) each year. It begins with a bonfire (篝火) , the flame of which burns away evil, and after that, the participants are in for some real fun. Crowds of people sprinkle (酒) each other with colored powder and organic paints as a sign of goodness and good luck.
Venice Carnival in Italy
The most romantic city in Italy fills with bright colors and sounds of music every year at the end of February. Residents and guests of Venice dress up in splendid costumes in the style of the Middle Ages and cover their faces with masks. The carnival ends with the awarding of the competitors who have showed the most original and colorful costumes.
Tomorrowland in Belgium
The biggest electronic music festival in the world is held at the end of July in the Belgian city of Boom. The famous three-day event annually gathers more than 300 thousand guests. The main stages are set up in a large park with artificial ponds and beautiful green areas. The area will be equipped in advance with food courts, grills, and all the necessary equipment.
Burning Man in the USA
Many cultural events pale in comparison to the legendary Burning Man, held in Nevada from the last Monday in August to the first Monday in September. The unique atmosphere is created not only by the organizers and the desert where the festival takes place but also by the participants themselves.
They build a tent city with homemade art objects and the necessary equipment. The highlight of the festival is the burning of a huge wooden statue of a man and the main temple.

29. Which can be used to best describe the team’s work?
A. Inspiring B. Steady C. Challenging D. Boring
30. What does the underlined word “replicate” in the last paragraph mean?

31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Beethoven’s Tenth Symphony Is Eventually Staged
B. AI Helps Complete Beethoven’s Unfinished Symphony
C. A Team of Experts Completed an Impossible Mission

Essentially speaking total relaxation is becoming a real expectation for many people when they travel.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
