Sports were a big part of my life as I grew up. When the weather was nice, I would be outside playing sports with my friends.
From about 5 to 13 years old, I spent most of my spare time playing in the playground. However, throughout all my years before high school, I never played football in any formal team. My junior high school didn’t have a football team, and I never tried out to play for any of the town teams. After I graduated from junior high school, some of my friends asked, “Are you going to try out for the senior high school team?” I hadn’t really thought about it. So I just shrugged off their suggestion. However, the more I thought about it, the more I wondered, “What is it like to be part of a team?” So, I decided to have a try.
My first day in the school football team wasn’t easy. I was really nervous. I had to go through organized training, wear football pads, and play with a lot of other young players. Coaches called out loudly, and whistles blew all over the place. This was quite different from what I had experienced. Yet, as the day went on, things started to get more comfortable for me. I didn’t feel worried anymore.
I proudly look back on this time of my life. I succeeded, and I overcame the fear of uncertainty. In the end, I loved playing football in senior high school, made some lifelong friends along the way, and kept good health.

A. Excited. B. Comfortable. C. Nervous. D. Bored.
24. What do the writer’s experiences in the football team tell us?

What can you do to help yourself get out of stress or worry? If you’re an artist, you keep making art. And if you have never considered yourself an artist, now is the time to take up an artistic hobby such as drawing or painting. It is never too late to start. Everyone can do it. If you can hold a brush or crayon, you can create art.
Creating art heals (治愈) not only the mind and spirit but also the body since all of these are connected. As you draw or paint, your breathing slows, your blood pressure (血压) lowers, and your mind lets go of daily problems. This slowing down allows you to fully experience the moment. The process not only relaxes you but also brings a feeling of joy, increasing your energy and enthusiasm (热情) for life.
Making art also allows you to play, freeing you to find out and try out new materials and methods. It also lets you express pleasure by seeing beauty where others may not. Creating art provides you a special chance to express your anger or upset, as well as your personal ideas.
Although the process of making art is the most important part, your finished product is important too. Your painting or drawing will remind you of the lessons you learned while making it, and you may feel energetic just by looking at it.
If you don’t know how to begin, here are some ways to start creating art. If possible, set aside a small table with your brushes and watercolors so you can get creative whenever you get inspiration (灵感). Without thinking much about it, just choose colors that you like and start painting with them, or cut pictures with those colors out of magazines and glue them down, combining (结合) them with paints. The act of enjoying the colors and working on the color combinations will give you something to focus on instead of the stresses of your daily life.
26. What do you need to do if you start making art according to Paragraph 1?
A. Ask a teacher for help. B. Start as early as possible.
C. Be a young artist first. D. Just have a brush or crayon.
27. What can you learn about making art from Paragraphs 2 and 3?
A. It is good for our health. B. It causes high blood pressure.
C. It’s like playing games. D. It helps us solve daily problems.

A. You must be very careful while choosing colors.
B. You can begin painting whenever you get inspiration.
C. You can get brushes and watercolors for preparation.
D. You may use magazines to make color combinations.
29. What’s the writer’s purpose (目的) of writing the text?
A. To tell us how to be an artist. B. To introduce the history of art.
C. To encourage us to make art. D. To teach us how to choose colors.
30. What’s the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

Liu Yang, a professor at Sun Yat-sen University, is one of the country’s most famous bird-watchers, and has a sighting list of about 1,330 species (物种) of birds.
Since childhood, Liu has been interested in studying house swifts (家燕). He began his love for nature and wild life. During high school in 1994, he started his bird-watching journey. Since then, knowing all the birds he saw and keeping a record have become his goals.
Bird-watching for scientific research has always excited Liu. Surprisingly, they were giving birth to the young. This discovery changed present knowledge, leading to the naming of two new species.
“Even though I have seen over 90 percent of the bird species in China, I still have met interesting bird behaviors in the wild that give birth to further research,” he says.
But research is just one side of his work. “Scientific research and popular science shouldn’t be seen separately. Your research questions come from nature and life, and the results should be made known to the public,” he explains.

A. It is good for our health. B. It causes high blood pressure.

B. You can begin painting whenever you get inspiration.

Liu Yang, a professor at Sun Yat-sen University, is one of the country’s most famous bird-watchers, and has a sighting list of about 1,330 species (物种) of birds.
Since childhood Liu has been interested in studying house swifts (家燕). He began his love for nature and wild life. During high school in 1994, he started his bird-watching journey. Since then, knowing all the birds he saw and keeping a record have become his goals.
Bird-watching for scientific research has always excited Liu. In the summer of 2008, while working at the Beishan National Farm in Qinghai, he came across birds that looked similar to a specie that normally appears in spring and autumn.
As the writer of three books about birds, Liu has also given speeches and helped review the yearly report of the China Bird-watching Records Center. He hopes his work is good to both people and birds.
