A. 阅读单选
A new AI model named DeepSeek-R1 has recently amazed the tech world. Developed by Hangzhou-based company DeepSeek, it cost only $5.57 million (about 40.58 million yuan) to create—far cheaper than similar U.S. models, which often require hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars.
Topping the App Store in One Week
DeepSeek-R1 debuted on January 20. Within just seven days, it outperformed OpenAI’s ChatGPT and became the No.1 free app on Apple’s App Store. Unlike traditional AI models, DeepSeek-R1uses Reinforcement Learning (RL) to solve problems independently. This method allows the AI to learn through trial and error, improving its reasoning skills. It excels at complex tasks like math while using less computing power, making it faster and more affordable.
Innovations: Self-Learning and Open-Source
The team at DeepSeek focused on RL training, enabling the AI to “think” like humans by earning rewards for correct solutions. Additionally, DeepSeek-R1 is fully open-source, meaning anyone can access and modify its code for free. Liang Wenfeng, founder of DeepSeek, emphasized that open-source technology promotes global collaboration and accelerates AI development.
This cost-effective AI model not only showcases China’s rapid innovation but also points to a future where advanced technology becomes more accessible worldwide.
1. Why might DeepSeek-R1 have become the No.1 app on the App Store faster than ChatGPT?
A. It was advertised more heavily.
B. It uses Reinforcement Learning (RL) to solve problems efficiently.
C. It was released earlier than ChatGPT.
D. It is only available in China.
2. What is the main focus of the third paragraph?
A. The high cost of developing AI models.
B. The competition between Chinese and U.S. AI companies.
C. DeepSeek-R1’s self-learning ability and open-source nature.

(四)【导语】Future cities未来城市
世界发展迅速,未来变得不再遥不可及。城市在你想象中会变成什么样子呢?我们一起来畅想一下。
What do you imagine cities will be like in the future? Will we have smart buildings and flying cars? Or robots that will pick up our rubbish? What about schools? Will we still go to school or will we study online from home? Perhaps all the buildings and roads will be underground and we’ll just have parks and cycle lanes above.
Maybe or maybe not, but what we do know is that in the future, cities are going to have more and more people living in them. More than half the world’s people already live in cities, and by 2050, cities will become home to about 6.5 billion people. That’s a lot of people and very little space! More people means that we’re going to have more pollution, traffic and noise. It also means that we’ll need more homes, schools, hospitals, jobs and transport. We’ll need more resources, like water and energy, and more ways to grow food too. Oh, and more parks to play in!
Many cities are already planning for the future. For example, Bristol is a cycling city in England. You can hire a bike (instead of taking a car or bus) and ride in cycle lanes which are separated from the traffic. In Singapore, people are looking “up” to grow food! To save space, they grow vegetables in lots of layers in special tall buildings, called “vertical farms”. And in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, there are “floating houses” built on water instead of on land!
What do you think city life will be like in the future?
1. How does the author start the first paragraph?
A. By telling a story. B. By asking questions.
C. By giving facts. D. By sharing personal experiences.
2. What can we infer about future cities from the second paragraph?
A. Cities will have less pollution.
B. We won’t need more homes and schools.
C. More people will mean more needs for homes, schools, and resources.
D. There will be less need for water and energy.
3. What type of houses are built on water in Amsterdam?
A. Underground B. Vertical C. Rooftop D. Floating
4. What is the main idea of the article?
A. Cities are preparing for a future with more people and the challenges that come with it.
B. Cities in the future will have flying cars and robots.
C. The future of cities is uncertain.
D. Vertical farms and floating houses are the only solutions for city growth.

(6) 【导语】Students are addicted to smart phones
学生沉迷于智能手机
The teachers are worried that young children are becoming “addicted (沉迷)” to smartphones.
They can’t do easy things with hands as they hold mobile phones in both hands. They can’t make toys themselves or help cook dinner with mum.
“Many children like to play with smartphones but they don’t like to do other things. Many children don’t like to talk with other children but their parents are proud of (以……自豪) them because they are good at using a phone,” said Colin Kinney, a teacher.
Many children spend too much time staying at home and quietly playing with a smartphone. If children do not know how to stay with others, it can become difficult for them to learn how to make friends when they get together.

D. Children will become communicative if they play with phone for long time.

In the first place, a no-car day should be set up every week in our school. Because cars not only cause serious air pollution but also waste energy. On a no-car day, neither students nor teachers are allowed to drive to school. Just walk, cycle or run. Use our legs and enjoy the fun.
In the second place, we had better not use plastic bags any more. No one can stand (忍受) the “white pollution”. So, it is wise to use bags which can be reused for many times.
Finally, one thing that we should keep in mind—every big thing comes from subtle (细微的) things. Therefore, as students, we ought to (应该) turn off the lights when we leave, turn off the tap in time, and reuse our textbooks and so on.
All in all, it is necessary for all of us to put the low-carbon lifestyle into our daily life. Just remember these: no-car day, no plastic bags, and no waste. Let’s do it now.

(十八)【导语】本文主要介绍了中国的人口现状,存在的问题以及政府为了解决这一问题所采取的措施。
It is reported that there were only 9.02 million newborn babies in China in 2023, and the population growth rate (出生率) is -1.48%.
China has one of the 1 (large) populations in the world, but its birth rate has been falling in recent years. One main reason is that most young 2 (parent) prefer to have fewer children. Then what social problems may appear if the birth rate keeps on 3 (go) down?
First, it will lead to an aging population. The number of old people is growing 34 people live longer than before. The government needs to put in more money on 5 (medicine) care and meet other needs of the old people.
Second, it will be bad for the 6 (develop) of our society, especially the economy (经济). If the population falls, 7 lot of schools and shops will be closed. It could also lead to the labor shortage.
Now the government has taken measures to deal 8 this problem. Young people are 9 (encourage) to raise more children. In Fuzhou, a family can receive 5,000 yuan from the government if they have a 10 (three) child. The government also tries to improve education and the job market.
(十九)【导语】本文主要介绍了中国政府决定延迟退休年龄这一新闻事件。
China’s retirement (退休) age, set in the 1950s, should have been raised long time ago because of many reasons. Recently, the government has decided to gradually raise its official retirement age over the next 15 years, starting in 2025. The retirement age for men will increase from 60 to 63, while for women, it will rise between 55 and 58. This change is a way to solve the problem of an aging society.
The plan allows people to choose when to retire within certain limits. For example, people can retire up to three years earlier or later than the new retirement age, which depends on their personal situations. The goal of the reform (改革) is not only to improve the availability (可用性) of workers but also to support the development of skills and talents in China.
Even with these changes, the reform faces challenges, including worrying about its influence on youth employments (就业). And more methods are needed to help older workers who may have trouble finding new jobs. The plan also points out the importance of improving the pension (养老金) system and elder care services (服务) to meet the needs of an aging society.
