Many of China’s ancient buildings were in danger of being destroyed before Lin Huiyin and Liang Sicheng started recording them in the 1930s. Thu husband-and-wife team were among the first people to work on protecting these buildings in China, and they are also the most well-known. Their efforts have inspired generations of people to speak out for architecture that is threatened by rapid development.
Becoming China’s best architectural historians was anything but an easy task. The buildings they wanted to save were centuries old and often located in distant parts of the country. In many cases, they had to travel through dangerous areas in the Chinese countryside to reach them. During the 1930s, exploring remote areas in China meant traveling on muddy, poorly maintained roads by mule or on foot. Inns (客栈) were often dirty, food could be polluted, and there was always a risk of violence from rebels, soldiers, and robbers.
Their greatest discovery was the Temple of Buddha’s Light in Wutai County, Shanxi Province. The breathtaking wooden temple was rebuilt in 857 AD, making it the oldest building known in China at the time. Liang and Lin crawled into the temple’s most forbidden, forgotten areas to determine its age. One area they explored was inhabited by thousands of bats and millions of bedbugs, covered in dust and littered with dead bats.
“In complete darkness and among an awful smell, hardly breathing, with thick masks covering our noses and mouths, we measured, drew, and took pictures with flashlights for several hours. When we finally came out to take a breath of fresh air, we found hundreds of bedbugs in our bag. We ourselves had been badly bitten. However, the importance and unexpectedness of our find made those hours the happiest of my years hunting for ancient architecture.” Liang wrote about his experience in a book called Liang and Lin: Partners in Exploring Chin’s Architectural Past.

A Japanese city is using AI (人工智能) to help with the problem of kids not wanting to go to school. They look at students’ information to see who might stop coming because of worries, being bullied (欺凌), or other problems.
In a city near Tokyo, they tested an Al system for a year. They wanted to help teachers find students who are having a hard time. In Japan, more and more kids are not going to school for a long time. In 2022, almost 300,000 kids didn’t go to school for 30 days or more.
The AI system looks at things like how often kids go to school, how well they do in school, and if they are healthy. It also looks at if they visit the school nurse a lot or if there are reports about them being bullied.
The system then uses past data (数据) to see how likely it is that a student will stop going to school. It gives each student a color, from red (highest risk) to yellow (lowest risk).
In the test, the program said 1,193 students were at high risk. Teachers decided that 265 of them needed help right away.
To keep kids’ information safe, the city made rules about how to use the data and not to treat students unfairly because of the AI’s predictions (预测). They also told parents they could say no to using their kids’ data. Only important people in the school, like headmasters, could see the results.
“By using real information, we might be able to stop kids from not wanting to go to school,” said Makiko Nakamuro, a professor from Keio University and an expert on education. “But we have to think really hard about keeping their data safe by telling them clearly why and how we use their information,” she also said.
32.What is the main purpose of using AI in the Japanese city?
A.To improve students’ scores.
B.To study students’ health conditions.
C.To make bullying problems happen less in schools.
D.To find students at risk of not attending school.
33.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The job of school nurses.
B.How the AI system checks kids’ health.
C.The main focus of the AI system.
D.Why students need better education.
34.How did the city protect students’ information?
A.Make strict rules about data using.
B.Hide all the data after testing.
C.Give up using their real information.
D.Send the result only to their parents.
35.What is Makiko Nakamuro’s attitude towards the AI system?
A.Doubtful. B.Supportive. C.Anxious. D.Confused.

Does your teenager seem addicted to the Internet? Probably yes. 36 At first, parents welcome the Internet into their homes, believing they are opening up an exciting new world of educational chances for their children. 37 Instead of using the Internet for homework or research, they are spending hours messaging with friends, playing online games or talking to strangers in chat rooms.
Keeping a healthy balance between entertainment media and other activities in their children’s lives has always been a challenge for parents. The Internet has made this challenge even more difficult. 38
However, parents are usually not aware that there is a problem until it becomes serious. This is because it is easy to hide what you are doing online and Internet addiction is not widely recognized by the medical community.
Children and young people can easily become hooked on online activities such as multi-player games, instant messaging and chat rooms. The most vulnerable children are those who are unpopular or shy with peers. 39 Boys, in particular, are frequent users of online role-playing games, where they assume new identities and interact with other players. For the children who are not so outgoing, playing these games with thousands of other users may apparently be a social activity. 40 . So parents need to help children limit the online time to an appropriate amount.
A.That is especially obvious when it comes to online social games.
B.In fact, playing too much can further keep them away from friends and peers.
C.The amount of time teenagers spend online is a source of concern for many parents.
D.But numerous parents don’t discover this worrying situation and ignore it naturally.
E.However, many parents soon realize that their kids were gradually becoming Internet addicts.
F.The engaging nature of the Internet makes many children lose track of time when they’re online.
G.They can be easily attracted to the opportunities for creating new identities in online communities.

Afternoon was Mrs. Green's favorite time of day. After a hard day at work, her eyes were tired and her feet hurt. She usually enjoyed the nice long sleep when she was on the bus. Mrs. Green had made friends with the bus driver, Mr. Smith. He always woke her up before her stop. She usually felt fresh again when she got off the bus. But today was different. Mr. Smith wasn't driving. A small man sat in the driver’s seat. "Where's Mr. Smith?" asked Mrs. Green, dropping her money into the box. "I don’t know. Sick, I guess. I just work here, lady." Mrs. Green hoped that Mr. Smith was all right. She didn't like this new driver. She decided not to sleep on the way home today. She didn't want to ask this driver to wake her.
Mrs. Green looked out of the window. It was a warm afternoon. Though she tried hard to stay awake, the gentle rocking of the bus made her fall asleep soon.
Then Mrs. Green felt someone shaking her. "Wake up, lady. We’ve come to the end of the line." Mrs. Green slowly opened her eyes. The bus driver looked down at her, "I said, this is the end of the line, lady. It's time to get off."
Mrs. Green looked out of the window. "Where am I?" she asked. "I was supposed to get off at Brighten Avenue."
"You are at the last stop, lady. Come on, get off the bus."
Mrs. Green had trouble waking up. When the bus driver took her arm and helped her step off the bus, she felt a sense of panic. "Wait a minute," she screamed. "This isn't Brighten Avenue. Where am I? How can I get home?"
"Cool off, lady. You are at the end of the line. You have to get off here." But why can't I ride back with you?" she begged."I have the fare!"
"Sorry, lady," he said as he closed the door. It's against the rules. You have missed the stop, and I can't take you back again."

A.It was effortless but fruitful.

A.a travel brochure on ancient Chinese sites.
B.A magazine about famous Chinese couples.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 左右。
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

第二节(满分25分)
【参考答案】
Mrs. Green watched the bus disappear down the road. She looked and walked around, trying to figure out what part of the city she was in. There were no stores around, no street signs, and no taxis. Few people could be seen at this lonely stop. It seemed the city was miles away. She couldn't help complaining. "How rude the new driver is!" she thought. "Although it is the end of the line, why can't I ride back? Is it a one-way ride?" It seemed she could not find the way home.
Suddenly the afternoon sun seemed surprisingly bright. The small driver drove his car and pulled up. He got out of his car, smiled and came up to her, saying it was time for her to go. She couldn't understand and still complained about the driver and the unreasonable rules, saying that she was just having a sleep and then missed Brighten Avenue. But the driver explained patiently that those were the company's rules and he couldn't break them, and that was why he came again to send her home.

Owning swans was seen as a great honor something only for the ruler and their rich friends. Nowadays swans are no longer eaten in fact this practice was officially banned in 1981, but the swan still remain a protected species. To make sure these beautiful birds are kept safe and well, the government officially counts the swans on the temps river during the third week of July each year.
The count is carried out by an official called the king swan marker and his team who are known as swan uppers. Easily identified by their bright red shirts, the uppers travel on the river in six small boats doing research about the local swan community. They spend five full days catching young swans to weigh them, measure them and give them a health check.
Today’s event is focused on education and swan protection and the annual swan upping attracts both tourists and local schoolchildren who come to observe this ancient tradition.

B.The significance of ancient Chinese buildings.
C.The methods used to protect ancient buildings.
D.The contributions of architects to Chinese culture.
30.What did Liang think of his exploration of the Temple of Buddha’s Light?
A.It was effortless but fruitful.
B.It was dangerous but meaningless.
C.It was challenging but rewarding.
D.It was breathtaking but time-consuming.
31.Where is this article most likely taken from?

C.Anxious. D.Confused.

【答案】Mrs.
