Section Ⅲ Grammar and usage The Abu Simbel temples in Egypt are thousands of years old and it took decades to build them. There are divisions among historians over when exactly the construction of the twin temples started, but no one can deny the fact that they were constructed in the 13th century BCE.In the mid-20th century, the temples were under serious threat. The government had decided to build the Aswan High Dam on the Nile and this structure would cause water levels to rise, which could in turn flood the Abu Simbel temples. This decision caused widespread concern among people around the world. They could not prevent the construction of the dam and they had no idea whether the temples could be saved from the rising waters. Some experts, however, had a feeling that it was possible.UNESCO put together an international team of architects, engineers and heavy equipment operators, who looked at different ways of saving the temples. At first, they had no idea which way could work. Finally, they decided to try to take the temples apart, move their parts to a new location and then put them back together. There was no guarantee that it would work, since no one had attempted anything similar before.Furthermore, the experts had no clue whether any parts of the temples would break during transport. However, the operation was carefully planned and the team eventually managed to relocate all of the Abu Simbel temples without incident. This success demonstrates the power of international cooperation in times of crisis. It is difficult to forecast what threats our heritage sites will face in the future, but we have the belief that we will need this kind of cooperation in heritage preservation. 答案 1....,but no one can deny the fact that they were constructed in the 13th century BCE. 2....and they had no idea whether the temples could be saved from the rising waters. 3.Some experts, however, had a feeling that it was possible. 4.At first, they had no idea which way could work. 5.There was no guarantee that it would work, since no one had attempted anything similar before. 6.Furthermore,the experts had no clue whether any parts of the temples would break during transport. 7....,but we have the belief that we will need this kind of cooperation in heritage preservation. There is no doubt that the assistant is fit for this job. I have no idea where their wedding is to be held.Maybe in the hotel,I think. I’ve come to the conclusion that it is unwise to insist on your view in the circumstances. He referred to Copernicus’ statement that the earth moves around the sun. The users of smart watches have brought up some doubt whether their privacy will be violated. The question came up at the meeting whether we had enough money for our research. The question who should do the job requires considering/to be considered. I have no idea what has happened to the captain in the past several years. I haven’t answered the question how I will deal with the urgent situation. The decision when we should get started hasn’t been made. Word came that some wolves were caught around that village. The suggestion that the new rule (should) be adopted came from the chairman. Do you know his command that we (should) start our work right now? The fact that the Chinese people invented the compass is known to all. (同位语从句,fact和从句没有逻辑关系,that也不作成分) The fact that we talked about is very important. The news 1.that Tom failed in the exam made his parents disappointed. However, when they asked Tom a question 2.whether he had the confidence to succeed,Tom said yes and expressed his hope 3.that he would make progress soon. Now they hold the firm belief 4.that he can achieve success sooner or later, because they know the fact 5.that failure is the mother of success. Ⅱ. Scientists have obtained more evidence that plastic is finding its way into the human body. 2. There is no doubt that there is not any problem for me to communicate with foreigners. 3. The thought came to her that maybe she had left the door open when she left home. 4. The proposal that we (should) build a shelter for these puppies came from my niece. 5. I made a promise that I would write to him as soon as I got to Beijing. 用适当的连接词填空(共10小题;每小题1.5分,共15分) 1.Experts hold the opinion that a small amount of stress can be good in exams. 2.There is still some doubt whether the autumn sports meeting can be held as scheduled. 3.There is no doubt that staying up is more likely to result in anxiety. 4.I have no idea which wine is best—it’s a matter of personal taste. 5.The question who will take his place is still not clear at the moment. 6.We haven’t yet settled the question where we are going to spend our summer vacation. 7.Li Ping repeated her request that we should share the cost. 8.An idea occurred to him that he might go there by air. 9.—Is it true that Mike refused an offer from Yale University yesterday? —Yeah, but I have no idea why he did that;that’s one of his favorite universities. 10.We can’t solve the problem how we can travel faster than light at present. Ⅲ.阅读理解(共8小题;每小题2.5分,共20分) A (2024·云南曲靖高二下期中) It’s a race against time,as generations of cultural heritage conservators at the Dunhuang Academy make a great effort to protect the artistic charm of the Mogao Caves,a UNESCO World Heritage Site, despite erosion(侵蚀) by sand and wind. The team is dedicated to protecting the 45,000 square meters of murals(壁画) and more than 2,400 painted sculptures of the 735 caves of the site, the construction of which spans about a thousand years, from the 4th century to the 14th century. The cultural relics are the product of the cultural exchanges that took place over centuries on the ancient Silk Road.“Our work, repairing murals and painted sculptures,is to better preserve the caves, which promotes the great Dunhuang spirit of inclusiveness(包容) to the world and inspires modern people,” says Su Bomin, director of the Dunhuang Academy. Commonly seen “diseases” affecting the murals include cracking and flaking(剥落),as well as erosion that is caused by changes in temperature and humidity of the caves, and the deposition of salts. To restore(修复) a mural requires an all-rounder.Restorers must understand painting, possess masonry(石造) skills, and have chemistry and physics knowledge to identify problems, causes, and solutions. They select materials and tools, experiment, restore, and evaluate the results. The restoration(修复) should respect the original work and aim to maintain the status quo(原状) of the murals rather than repainting them. When the restorers find some parts of murals missing or fading away, they never repaint them to create a “perfect” appearance in restoration.“Cultural relics are witnesses of history,” explains Su.“When you pursue the so-called intact(完好无损的) look for artistic reasons, you will lose their key meaning.” Cave conservation is about continuously solving problems.“It needs a long-term research to better preserve the caves, over a much wider time span that goes beyond our lifetimes,” Su says. But at least, they can keep the existing look of the murals for as long as possible. 1.What is the main purpose of paragraph 2? A.To show the popularity of Dunhuang murals. B.To explain the history of the ancient Silk Road. C.To stress the significance of the restoration work. D.To present the ways of protecting cultural heritage. C。 2.Which of the following best describes the restoration work? A.Creative. B.Well-paid. C.Interesting. D.Demanding. 根据文章第三段的“To restore(修复) a mural requires an all-rounder.Restorers must understand painting...” D。 3.What should restoring murals focus on according to paragraph 4? A.Spotting the faded murals in time. B.Fixing the missing parts of murals. C.Making preservation of the murals as they are. D.Repainting to perfect the appearance of murals. 根据文章第四段的“The restoration(修复) should respect the original work and aim to maintain the status quo(原状) of the murals rather than repainting them.” C。 4.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.The Artistic Charm of Mural Paintings B.The Mural Restoration in the Mogao Caves C.The Successful Experiment on Cave Conservation D.The Role of the Dunhuang Spirit in Chinese Culture 答案 B 解析 标题归纳题。 B (2024·山东临沂高二下期末) It’s no secret that sleep is important to your overall health, but a lack of sleep could have great effects on your heart,a new study shows. The researchers said people with insomnia(失眠症) are more likely to have a heart attack. Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder in the US,the researchers wrote in their report, noting that 10% to 15% of people in the US struggle with it.The meta-analysis of previously published research suggests that the potential association between insomnia and heart attack risk is strongest in women. Dr.Martha Gulati, director of prevention at the Cedars-Sinai Smidt Heart Institute, said that most of her patients are women and that insomnia is a noted risk factor for women who have had any form of ischemic heart disease.“We see it probably in 1 in 10 patients in the United States,” said Gulati, who was not involved in the new research.“It is my impression that almost everyone experiences insomnia at some point in their life. The estimate is that 1 in 2 adults experience it at some point in their life, maybe in the short term because of stressful moments.” For their analysis, the researchers defined insomnia as a sleep disorder with three main symptoms(症状):Difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep and waking early and being unable to fall back asleep. The study also found an association between increased heart attack risk and how long a participant slept each night. Those who slept five hours or less had the highest association with heart attack risk and were 1.56 times more likely to have a heart attack than people who slept seven or eight hours.Longer sleep duration wasn’t always more protective. The study found that people who slept six hours a night had a lower risk of a heart attack than those who slept nine hours or more.“A lot of studies have pointed somewhere between seven and eight hours of sleep being the magic number for us,” another researcher said.“There is obviously variability for everyone, but too much sleep is rarely the issue.” 5.What’s the function of the first paragraph? A.To list a fact. B.To warn the readers. C.To introduce the topic. D.To draw the readers’ interest. C。 6.What can we infer from Gulati words? A.Insomnia is unavoidable in the short term. B.Insomnia is a common phenomenon in life. C.Heart attack often happens during insomnia. D.Women are less experienced in dealing with insomnia. 根据第三段中“‘We see it probably in 1 in 10 patients in the United States,’...‘It is...because of stressful moments.’” B。 7.What inspiration can we get according to the sleeping time? A.Put quality before quantity. B.Too much is as bad as too little. C.Bite off more than one can chew. D.Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. A。 8.What’s the author’s attitude to the relationship between insomnia and heart attack? A.Pessimistic. B.Indifferent. C.Objective. D.Positive. Ⅳ.七选五(共5小题;每小题2.5分,共12.5分) How to Control Weeds When Planting No matter what you choose to grow in the garden,at some point, you will have to deal with unwanted plants, known as weeds. 1 Even a tomato plant can become a weed if it grows where you don’t want it to. 2 Weeds can bring many problems. They steal nutrients and water.Weeds can also bring harmful bugs and diseases into your garden. Some weeds release chemicals that can slow the growth of nearby plants. It is important to note that some weeds are not all bad.In fact, you can eat them.Dandelions(蒲公英) are also viewed as a weed by many people. 3 And you can eat or use nearly every part of the plant. But even other weeds can do good things in our garden. The roots of weeds can prevent the soil from being blown away by wind or washed away by rain. However, left to grow on their own, weeds can take over a garden. To slow the growth of weeds, add a layer of weed-free,organic material to the top of your garden, around the plants. 4 A simple and effective method of weed control is to break up the surface layer of the soil. But you must do this regularly.Do not turn the soil over. 5 If you turn the soil over, you give those seeds the light and air they need to grow.Probably the best way to fight some weeds is to eat them! Just make sure they are,in fact, eatable. A.But their leaves are also full of nutrients. B.This makes it difficult to reshape a garden. C.A weed is just a plant growing in the wrong place. D.This improves the soil and keeps weeds from growing. E.Besides being unwanted, what else do weeds do to a garden? F.Buried in the soil are weed seeds, waiting for the right conditions. G.So,before we hurry outside to kill all the weeds, consider their good side. 1. Ⅴ.语法填空(共10小题;每小题1.5分,共15分) Gabi Rizea only discovered his talent for wood carving three years ago,and has since put it to good use,1.
