教学内容
1. 学习本单元的重点单词,短语和句型。
2. 复习掌握单词、词的用法。
3. 通过听课及运用所学知识谈论学校生活,能对不同学校进行对比。
教学目标
1. 能够准确地读写本单元的重点单词和短语。
2. 复习掌握单词、词与词的用法。
3. 能够听懂并谈论关于"学校"的对话,对不同学校进行对比。
4. 能够正确说出句子的重音。
5. 通过学习描述学校生活,提高对英语的学习兴趣。同时了解其他国家的教育制度及其他国家学生的学校生活,从而拓宽学生视野,激发学生学习英语的兴趣。
重点难点
1. 重点:
(1) 学习关于教育的词汇和表达方式。
(2) 学习发音知识。
2. 难点:学会谈论自己在学校的情况。
教学过程
Step 1 Lead-in
Show some pictures of the school and the school life which are familiar to the students, such as the classroom, the playground, spare-time activities and so on. If the students can find themselves in the pictures, their interests will be more likely provided(激发). Then ask them to talk about their own school lives, and lead in the lesson.
【设计意图】通过展示学校图片,引导学生谈论学校生活。在复习有关学校词汇的同时,培养了学生的技能,激发了学生的学习兴趣,顺利导入本单元话题。
Step 2 Brainstorming
Ask the students some questions such as "What do you think of our school?" "What do you think of our class?" "Do you think your school life is interesting or boring?" According to their answers, the teacher can lead them to brainstorming or "What is the school life like in your mind?"
T: People always want to go to good schools, but what makes a school good?
S1: Good learning environment.
S2: High quality teaching.
S3: Broad and flexible curriculums(课程).
S4: Some activities related to real-world work.
T: How much do you know about English schools? Let's list some differences from ours.
【设计意图】通过头脑风暴把学生的思维引到"What is the school life like in your mind?"这个话题上来。通过这个环节,既可以活跃课堂气氛,还调动了学生的学习兴趣。
Step 3 Presentation(Activity 1)
Ask students to answer the question in Activity 1 after they finish brainstorming. Let them ask and answer in pairs like this:
A: Do you like the computer room best?
B: No, I like the laboratory best because I can do physical experiments there. I like learning physics. What do you like best about our school?
A: I like... What about you?
C: ...
(The students take turns to practise.)
Then ask some students to act out their dialogues in front of the whole class.

Step 4 Listening
Listening and answering(Activity 2)
T: We have learned English for nearly 6 years and how do you know about England and its school? What are their school courses?
Ss: ...
Finally, the teacher plays the radio and students fill in the blanks in Activity 2. Discuss the answers in groups. Then check the answers with the class.
Listening and reading(Activity 3)
1. Play the tape and ask the students to follow the tape to read the whole passage. After it, ask some students to summarize the general idea of the passage. Play the tape again, and ask the students to listen to the tape with books folded in order to practise the students' listening ability.
2. The students then should finish Susie's column in the table in Activity 3.
3. Play the recording again. Then check the answers with the whole class.
4. Listen again and answer the questions in Activity 4.
(1) Who did Tony visit in London?
(2) How did Tony get the photos of Susie's school?
(3) Which class is a bit bigger, Susie's or Daming's?
(4) What does Betty hope to do one day?
5. Check the answers in class.

Step 5 Practice(Activity 5)
Ask the students to finish Activity 5 after reading the passage again themselves. Then the teacher checks the answers with them.

Step 6 Pronunciation(Activities 6 & 7)
1. Give a detailed introduction of the "English stress". Teach the method how to stress in a sentence and which parts should be stressed. Ask the students to try some sentences stress practices in order to find out problems with the stress. Then, play the tape, ask the students to listen to it and find out the way to stress a sentence.
Betty: Hey, Tony! Did you enjoy yourself in London?
Tony: Yes! I went to see my friend Susie. And I visited her school.
Betty: What are English schools like?
Tony: Here are a few photos. I took them myself.
2. Work in pairs. Let the students read the conversation in Activity 6 aloud.
【设计意图】让学生了解并掌握句子重音,一般实词(名词、动词、形容词等)需要重读,虚词(介词、冠词、连词等)不需要重读。这不仅可以锻炼学生的语音、语调,而且有利于学生正确表达句子的意思。
Step 7 Speaking(Activity 8)
Introduce the methods of comparing and contrasting two things. Then give the topic "Compare your school with Susie's school" to the students and let them use the comparing method to do the practice.
Example:
A: Today we have learned about Susie's school. What do both schools have?
B: Both schools have sports grounds.
A: Which school do you prefer and why?
B: I prefer Susie's school. Because it has a swimming pool for us to swim.
C: I prefer my school because we have more pupils in the classroom and we have more friends to play with.

Step 8 Homework
1. Remember the words and phrases in this unit.
2. Finish the exercises in the workbook.
