I was on a tour of France with my friend Matt when our car pulled to a stop at the beach and we saw the Mediterranean Sea. Massive waves surged against large rocks that formed a waterproof jetty(防波堤). People said this beach was known for its dangerous currents. I was overcome with fear. Nothing scared me as much as water. Just the sight of the sea made me sick to my stomach.
I’d always loved water and been a good swimmer until last summer, when I’d decided to climb up to the highest diving board at the pool. I’d hopped from that height and hit the water with an incredible impact and I blacked out. The next thing I knew, I was being pulled out of the pool. From then on, I was absolutely terrified of water.
“Jason, are you coming?” my friend, Matt, called. Matt was also a good swimmer. As teenagers, we had attended the life saving class and swum a lot.
“Yeah,” I said. “Just enjoying the view,” from dry land, I added silently, worried they might regard my fear pitiful if they knew.
Suddenly I heard shouting in French. People were running into the sea, fully clothed. That’s odd, I thought.
I glimpsed something moving up and down in the waves, past the end of the jetty. That’s a little boy out there! The would-be rescuers fought against the tide, but with the water’s tow(拖拽), they’d never get to him in time.
I soon realized the boy was close to the jetty! Maybe I could help from there. I raced down the beach, out onto the jetty, and it hit me: Water! My palms got sweaty and my stomach felt sick. I stopped short.
The people in the water weren’t making any progress. I was the only one who saw that going out on the jetty was the fastest way to reach the drowning boy. But I was extremely terrified.

Last month, it was my friend Emily’s birthday, and she invited us to her house to celebrate. I’m really excited because Emily always gives me special birthday gifts, so I want to do something good in return. I decided that, instead of just buying her a gift, I’d bake (烤) her a cake. I’m not a master in the kitchen, but how hard could it be to bake a simple chocolate cake?
The day before the party, I went to the store to pick up everything I needed: flour (面粉) , sugar, eggs, and, of course, chocolate. I even bought a nice toy to make the cake look beautiful. I was feeling pretty confident.
When I got home, I started mixing everything together. It was going smoothly and the kitchen was filled with the sweet smell of baking. But then, disaster struck. I was rushing to get the cake finished, and in a hurry, I took the wrong bag. Without even thinking, I put in what I thought was sugar, but it was actually salt!
The cake looked perfect when it came out-golden brown with a shiny top. The smell was so amazing that I couldn't wait to show it at the party. I imagined everyone was surprised at my baking skills and how impressed Emily would be. But little did I know, my cake was about to become the most memorable birthday cake ever.
The next day, I arrived at Emily's party with the cake. The moment came when we cut the cake. Emily, being the birthday girl, was the first to taste the cake. She carefully cut a piece, and with a big smile, she took the first bite (咬) .

After finishing my first marathon, I felt I could conquer(征服) anything. As I rested my aching legs, I read a friend’s article about a 70.3 triathlon (铁人三项)she had completed. She described the race as fun. Her story inspired me — should I attempt a triathlon myself?
I liked running, but cycling and swimming weren’t my strengths I had always categorized the triathlon as one of those things I’ll never do. However, encouraged by my marathon success, I found a 70.3 triathlon and registered.
I told my coach that my goal was to finish the race within 7 hours. She thought I might make it if I followed a training plan. Training, however, was tough. Every day, I had a big workout that left me exhausted. Many times I considered quitting. But I wanted to push myself and try something challenging. So I persevered with the training plan.
Finally, the race day arrived. I stood on the beach in the early morning. Three triathlon races were being held that day, and I had signed up for the longest — the 70.3 triathlon: a 1.2- mile swim, a 56- mile bike ride, and a 13.1- mile run.
People around me wore fancy triathlon suits and waterproof watches. “Are you doing the 70.3 triathlon?” I asked. To my surprise, they were all competing in the shorter races. I started panicking Everyone looked younger and fitter than I was.
I walked through the crowds until I found another 70.3 competitor —a strong man who was young enough to be my son. My anxiety increased, and I was consumed with doubt as to whether I could even complete the race.
I heard thunder as rain started hitting the beach, hoping the race would get canceled. But an announcer declared the weather was improving and the race would soon begin. With no choice but to proceed, I made my way to the starting line. As I swam, I repeated to myself, “Don’t drown.” I was behind a woman who seemed to be going the same speed, so I followed her lead. Eventually, I was out of the water.
The rain stopped, and the swim was over. My day was looking up. Cheerfully, I started the bike ride.
Paragraph 1:
Unfortunately, minutes later, it was pouring again with strong winds.

In the golden mist of late summer, Frank and John, two inseparable friends, set off on an adventure they had particularly planned for weeks: a camping trip by the river. The air was filled with excitement as they packed their backpacks with essentials—tents, cookers, and a map, though they were confident in their knowledge of the area, having explored its boundaries since childhood.
As the sun began its fall, casting long shadows across the green landscape, they arrived at their chosen spot—a quiet bend in the river, far from civilization’s noisiness. They set up camp, and the crackling of the campfire and the gentle lapping of water against the shore were their only companions. Under a starry sky, they shared stories and dreams, unaware that their comfortable escape was about to take a dangerous turn.
The following morning, as they ventured deeper into the woods to gather firewood, the sky, which had been clear and blue, turned frightening, with heavy clouds gathering. In the distance, a low, powerful, rolling thunder echoed (回响) through the valley, a warning they should have noticed. Not frightened, they continued, their laughter now was drowned out by the growing roar(咆哮) of the river.
It happened swiftly. A wall of water, caused by the storm, rushed down the river, catching them off guard. In a heartbeat, their return path was cut off, the once familiar place was transformed into a maze (迷宫) of rushing currents and mudslides. Panic rose within them, but Frank, always the calmer of the two, remembered a survival tip from his father: “When lost or in danger, stay put if possible, assess your resources, and think reasonably.”
With the river too dangerous to cross, they came back to higher ground, seeking shelter beneath a rocky overhang. As the rain pounded down, they gathered together, their spirits dampened but not defeated. John remembered another crucial lesson: using natural resources for survival. He suggested they start a fire using dry leaves and branches they had collected before the storm and they managed to light a small flame, providing warmth and a light of hope.

It was a gloomy afternoon, with dark clouds hanging low in the sky, making the already old-fashioned campus seem even more deserted. After the last class of the day, I walked across the campus with my close classmate, Tom. As we neared a quiet corner beside the old library, a series of faint meowing sounds (猫叫声) pierced the stillness. Our curiosity piqued, we exchanged a glance and immediately traced the source of the noise.
Behind a messy stack of old boxes, we discovered a minuscule, emaciated cat. Its once-soft fur was now caked with dirt, and its small body trembled ever so slightly, a clear indication that it had suffered from days of hunger and cold. A profound sense of pity welled up within us. Tom bent down slowly, his hand extended gently, his voice soft as he tried to lead the frightened animal out. At first, the cat was frightened, its wide-eyed gaze fixed on us in fear. But gradually, after a few moments of cautious sniffing (嗅), it timidly stepped out from its hiding spot.
We knew we couldn’t abandon this helpless creature. Tom proposed taking it to the school infirmary (医务室), believing the school doctor might be able to assess its condition. I nodded in instant agreement, yet a tinge of worry crept in as we pondered how the school authorities would respond to us bringing a cat into the infirmary.
Just at that moment, Lily, a classmate with a kind heart and a skill of animal care, happened to pass by. The moment she laid eyes on the pitiful cat in our arms, her expression softened. She informed us that she had experience in dealing with stray (走失的) animals and eagerly offered her assistance. With Lily on board, our determination to save the cat grew tenfold. We held the cat gently and made our way towards the infirmary, filled with hope and a touch of nervousness.

Oops. Colored rice poured out of Manju’s paper cone (纸锥) and showered across the floor. “I’m sorry. I cut it too much.” he told his grandmother, Nanima. He rushed to clean up the rice. Would Nanima still let him help with the rangoli (地画)?
The rangoli represented good luck for a new year and Nanima made one every Diwali (排灯节). First, she would draw on the floor with chalk. Then, she would fill the drawing with uncooked colored rice without any gaps.
This year, Manju was old enough to help. He stood on one side of rangoli, while Nanima the other side. But so far, he’d only made a mess.
“ Don’t worry,” Nanima said gently, smiling at him.“ It takes some practice.” Manju tried again. He made a new cone and filled it with rice. This time, he cut it carefully. Rice flowed out immediately.“ It works!” Side by side, they made rice move out of the con e across the drawing.
After a while, Manju glanced over at Nanima. He frowned (皱眉) with disappointment.“ You’ve finished a lot. I’ve done hardly any.”“ You’ re doing a good job,” Nanima said with a smile.“ Gaps bring bad luck. But your side looks nice and tight.”
Manju kept working. Sometimes his rice moved very quickly and lightly outside the drawing. Sometimes he used the wrong color. Sometimes he touched the outline carelessly. It became so unclear that Nanima had to redraw it. But slowly, the bright patterns of rice was transformed into a beautiful peacock (孔雀).
All of a sudden, the phone rang. “I’ll be right back in a moment,” Nanima said as she left to answer it. Manju admired the peacock in wonder. Then he spotted a small gap on Nanima’s side.

Jack is a 10-year-old who has development issues in his leg muscles, causing him to walk on the balls of his feet, which makes him unbalanced. He also has a speech delay, so he speaks slowly and can be hard to understand. However, it was this boy that totally changed my attitude toward life.
Three years ago, when I was unbelievably self-centered, my dad arranged for me to watch a video after I got back home from school.
I will never forget that movie. My eyes filled with tears as images of mentally and physically challenged children playing baseball flashed across the screen. I learned about Challenger, a program that gives these children the chance to play baseball on a team with the help of “buddies (伙伴)”. Some buddies act as eyes for those who have vision problems, legs for those who can’t walk, and a friend to the mentally challenged. Challenger not only gives the children a team to play on, but a sense of belonging that they may lack in their difficult life.
After the short film ended, my dad explained he was going to add this program to our town’s baseball league, since he was president of the league, and he told me that he expected me to participate. I suddenly became interested in volunteering as a buddy for children with special needs.
So when Sunday came, I sat with my dad and other volunteers waiting for the players to arrive. A few cars pulled up, and some players were introduced to their buddies. Then, I saw another car pull up. A cute little boy called Jack got off the car with his mother.
“This is my daughter, Amy. She’s going to be your buddy for the season. Is that okay, Jack?” my dad said with a smile. But Jack just hid behind his mother, looking unhappy.

One sunny afternoon, Jamie and his friend Ethan gathered at their favorite spot, the old oak tree in the park. As they sat together, exchanging plans for the coming weekend, Jamie felt a familiar knot of anxiety forming in his stomach. This was the day he had to present his science project, and the thought of speaking in front of everyone made his palms sweat. “What’s wrong, Jamie?” Ethan asked, noticing the change in his friend’s behavior. “I... I have to present my project about renewable energy tomorrow, and I’m really nervous. I don’t think I can explain it well. What if they laugh at me?” Jamie admitted. Ethan leaned in closer, “Listen, Jamie, everyone gets nervous. But if you believe in what you’re saying, others will too. Just think of it as telling a story.” Jamie sighed, considering his friend’s words, but the fear of failure still overwhelmed him.
That evening, Jamie sat at his desk, on which lay the papers and diagrams of his project. He had spent weeks researching solar panels, wind turbines (风力涡轮机), and the importance of conserving energy. Yet, despite his hard work, the doubts crept back in like shadows in the night. “What if I forget everything? What if I trip over my words?” he murmured (低语) to himself.
His mother, hearing his murmurs from the hallway, comforted him with a warm smile, “Jamie, remember, it’s not about being perfect. It’s about sharing what you’ve learned. You’re passionate about this topic, and that passion will shine through.” As Jamie lay in bed that night, he thought about his mother’s words. Slowly, the knot in his stomach began to loosen, replaced by a flicker of determination.
The next morning, after a quick breakfast, he grabbed his project materials and headed to school. As the bell rang, one by one, students presented their projects. Jamie’s heart raced as he watched his classmates speak confidently, their voices steady and strong.

“Bob, my dear,“ a warm voice called out from Bob’s mother. Feeling pain all over his body, Bob slowly opened his eyes and saw his mother sitting in a chair next to his bed. Trying to sit up, he looked around and found himself in a small sick room.
Memories of the past few days came rushing back: a football match his friends cheering him on, a shining medal, and then the sudden slip (滑倒) on the road and the blaring horn (刺耳的喇叭声). After that darkness followed.
Bob’s mother watched him with a pained expression as he raised a shaking hand to touch the white sheet covering his legs. Bob broke down and cried. When the doctor entered the room, Bob had only one question on his mind, “How will I ever play football again?” Football was Bob’s life. He was the star player on his school team, scoring countless winning goals.Every free moment was spent kicking a ball around.
After a few months, Bob left the hospital and returned home, but the journey was far from over. Rehabilitation (康复) began a slow and painful journey. A year passed, and Bob stepped onto the field for the first time since the accident.
The game began. However, Bob quickly realized that he was no longer the best player on the team. Others were faster, smoother, and more skilled with the ball. It only took one match for everyone to see that Bob was a hindrance (造成阻碍的人) to the team. He ran slowly and often tripped and fell, That night, Bob was very sad and refused any comfort.
The next day, his grandfather insisted on (持) taking him somewhere. They ended up at the same park where Bob had played the game just the day before, There was a group of young children wanting to play football.

Lily complained as she struggled to remove a mark on her dream California Spirit T-shirt. Lily was not feeling any sort of California Spirit at all. Moreover, she was not in high spirits at all. Her annoying twin sister, Polly, had completely ruined her nice weekend.
Maybe Lily had pushed Polly unintentionally, causing her to spill(洒出)juice everywhere onto the floor, and mom had blamed Polly without letting her explain. Polly, in a stormy mood, spilled a cup of coffee onto Lily, ruining the new T-shirt. Polly was so angry that she avoided Lily all through the weekend, not feeling like responding to Lily.
As Lily thought about all this, she couldn’t help feeling a bit sorrowful, remembering their joyful childhood when she and her sister helped each other and explored the unknown world around them together. She sighed and gave up trying to clean her shirt. Perhaps it was time to stop having a world war with her sister.
So, Lily changed into a clean T-shirt, set the dirty one aside, took a deep breath and knocked on her sister’s door. “What?” A mad shout came in from the room. Lily hesitantly entered the room. “I’m not Mom.” Polly looked confused for a second wondering why her sister was there. “Since when did you learn to knock?”
Lily ignored her sister’s comment, sat down heavily on the bed, and asked, “Do you want to conquer(征服)the world?” She didn’t actually mean to conquer the world, but when they were small, they liked to challenge themselves to climb a pretty high rock at the back of their house inside a small wood The sisters hadn’t actually managed to do that yet, and they gave up trying after a while since it looked a bit stupid for teenagers to climb a rock. After that, they basically forgot about the whole thing.

Andy rode slowly on his way to school, daydreaming about the fishing trip that his father had promised him. He was so busy dreaming about all the fish he would catch that he was unaware of everything else around him.
He rode along until a strange sound drew him to the present. He came to a stop and looked curiously up to the heavens. What he saw shocked and terrified him. A huge swarm of bees filled the sky like a black cloud and the buzzing mass seemed to be heading angrily towards him.
With no time to waste, Andy sped off in the opposite direction, riding furiously — but without knowing how to escape the swarm. With a rapidly beating heart and his legs pumping furiously, he sped down the rough road. As the bees came closer, his panic increased. Andy knew that he was sensitive to bee stings. The last sting had landed him in hospital — and that was only one bee sting! He had been forced to stay in bed for two whole days. Suddenly, his father’s words came to him, “When you are in a tight situation, don’t panic. Use your brain and think your way out of it.”
On a nearby hill, he could see smoke waving slowly skywards from the chimney of the Nelson family home. “Bees don’t like smoke,” he thought. “They couldn’t get into the house.” Andy raced towards the Nelson house, but the bees were gaining ground. Andy knew he could not reach the house in time. He estimated that the bees would catch up with him soon.

Before I thought I needed to get rid of my Southern accent, I was proud of my heritage. As a child, there was no sound I loved more than my grandmother’s accent: thick, sweet, warm. She used to tell me, “Girl, don’t forget where you come from.” My own voice reflected my family’s past and present — part northern Mississippi, part Tennessee delta, all southern.
As I grew up, I began to realize that outside of our region, southerners were often dismissed as uncultured and uneducated, ignorant and narrow-minded. I was ready to leave behind my tiny town and started a new life in some far-off big cities. I thought I would have to talk less country. So I killed a piece of myself. I am ashamed of it, but I am more ashamed that I tried to kill that part of someone else.
I met Emily in college, who was also a southerner. She worked for the student newspaper, where I spent most of my waking hours, and we became friends. Unlike me, she embraced her roots.
Emily was two years younger. I knew she cared about my opinion. I advised her to be more like me, abandoning her accent. During my senior year, Emily and I participated in a speech contest. After Emily, it was my turn, but I was fully confident about my accent. I took it upon myself to “help” Emily prepare for it, concentrating on training her pronunciation.
“I,” I said, firmly.
“Ahye,” Emily responded, helplessly. I could tell she tried her best to bite off the extra syllable, but she failed. Frustrated, she tossed aside her glasses. “I quit. I don’t think I have to get rid of my accent for the presentation. If they want to laugh, so be it!”
I had told myself I was helping her. Now I was not sure.

Two professional boxers were engaged in a thrilling match for championship: the older was called Kapa, 35; the younger Barce, 28. They played six rounds in the first half, ending in a tie for their equal strength. In the seventh round of the second half, the competition was still extremely fierce. The two sides exchanged blows and both were badly hurt.
During the halftime break, there was no longer the tension on the field. Instead, they both genuinely apologized and showed concern for each other. Barce thought about the intensity of the match and felt a sense of respect for Kapa’s persistent determination. He wiped the bloodstain off Kapa’s face with his clean towel bit by bit and then showered water on his head. He couldn’t help thinking of the sacrifices they both were making for this sport. Kapa also cared about Barce’s injuries and gently helped handle them. The audience, who had been watching intently, sighed with admiration at the sportsmanship of the two boxers when they saw this scene. Many people began to applaud them.
After the short break, they proceeded with their boxing. Barce accidentally fouled (犯规) and the referee (裁判) didn’t notice it. Barce’s heart skipped a beat. He knew he had made a mistake, panic and guilt surging through him. Should he let it go and grasp the chance of victory? But his inner sense of right and wrong wouldn’t allow it. Perhaps older and weaker, Kapa was knocked down over and over again. According to the rules, after the opponent was knocked down and the referee called three times in a row, if a boxer who collapsed couldn’t get up, he would be defeated. Kapa continually struggled to his feet but failed. The referee began to count, “One, two...”

【答案】Possible version:
The boy was about 25 yards away from the jetty. As I stood at the edge of the Jetty, my heart pounding in my chest like a drum. There’s no time for me to think about more. Sucking in a deep breath, I threw myself into the water. As soon as I jumped in, I felt like I was back in that pool, breathless, struggling, terrified. I tried to focus, but fighting the force of the water wasn’t easy. At some point, I even felt like I wouldn’t make it. I could feel my muscles burning.
“Jason, you can do it!” I heard Matt say on the jetty while I was desperate in the water. Feeling a new sense of determination welling up inside me, I pushed myself harder and finally I reached the boy. I swam with all my strength and fought to get us back to land. Matt jumped into the water. I felt strong arms lift me. And, as we made our way to safety I realized something incredible: I was no longer afraid. I turned my head and saw the boy was hugged tightly by his mother. I looked out to the sea. Weary as I was, the water had never looked so beautiful.

【答案】But then her expression changed. Trying hard not to laugh, she looked at me, with her eyes widening in disbelief, “Are you sure this is a cake? ” I immediately took a bite myself. The moment the flavor hit my tongue, my heart dropped. I know something had gone terribly wrong and the entire room went dead silent. “I - uh - I think I used salt instead of sugar! ” I stammered, with my face turning bright red. Then as if planned, everyone burst out laughing.
Emily, however, quickly regained her composure (镇定) . “Thank you so much for making this cake, which made this birthday the most memorable one.” She winked at me, trying to make me feel better. I smiled, feeling grateful for her kindness and understanding. At that point, everyone who had been eagerly waiting for the cake rushed to try the salty surprise, all full of curiosity and excitement. I was soon involved in the cheerful atmosphere, realizing that true friendship is about accepting and supporting each other, even when things go wrong.

【答案】Unfortunately, minutes later, it was pouring again with strong winds. The rain lashed at my face, and the wind made it difficult to keep my balance on the bike. I struggled to see through the sheets of rain, my heart sinking. My spirits were dampened as I pedaled on, feeling the cold seep into my bones. Doubts crept back in. Would I be able to finish this race? But then I thought of all the training I had put in and the determination that had brought me this far. I gritted my teeth and continued to battle against the elements.
I quickly put on dry socks, shoes, and the outfit before starting the 13.1-mile run. As I began to run, my legs felt heavy and tired from the previous events. But I pushed on, one step at a time. The crowd cheered me on, and their energy gave me a boost. With every step, I grew more confident. Despite the challenges I had faced throughout the day, I was determined to cross that finish line. As I neared the end, a sense of accomplishment washed over me. I had done it. I had completed the triathlon.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】The new sun rise brought new challenges and opportunities for Frank and John to prove their courage. They crafted fishing hooks from bent wires found among their scattered belongings, cleverly attaching them to flexible branches to catch fish in the running river. The day was also marked by tireless efforts to signal for help, arranging branches and rocks into massive arrows that pointed toward their location, hoping these markers would catch the eye of a passing aircraft. Frank, with his keen observation skills, noticed patterns in the helicopter search patterns, suggesting they move closer to the riverbank during flyovers, increasing their chances of being spotted.
The next day, as hope was beginning to fade, a rescue helicopter appeared. The bright clothes they had hung between trees and the persistent smoke from their controlled fire served as a signal in the wilderness. As they were airlifted to safety, Frank and John looked at each other, their eyes reflecting a newfound appreciation for life, friendship, and the power of preparation and quick thinking in the face of disaster. The adventure was also a reminder that even in the most unexpected and dangerous circumstances, there is always a way out — if one remains calm, resourceful, and never loses sight of hope.

【答案】Paragraph 1:
On reaching the infirmary, the school doctor greeted us with a surprised look. However, after listening to our earnest plea and the cat’s tragic situation, her expression softened. She quickly got to work, conducting a thorough examination. She told us the cat was severely malnourished and had a respiratory infection. While treating the cat, she patiently explained to us the care it needed. We listened intently, absorbing every word, grateful for her expertise. With the doctor’s professional treatment, the cat’s breathing gradually became more stable, and we felt a glimmer of hope.
Paragraph 2:
Over the next few days, we took turns to take care of the cat. We divided the tasks among us. I was in charge of bringing fresh food and water every morning, Tom cleaned the cat’s temporary shelter, and Lily monitored its health closely. As the days passed, the cat’s condition improved remarkably. Its fur became smoother, and its eyes sparkled with newfound vitality. It even started to play with a small ball we brought for it. This experience not only saved a life but also strengthened the bond between us classmates. We realized that with unity and compassion, we could make a difference.

【答案】Apparently, Jack didn’t like to play with me. Initially, I felt a little embarrassed and discouraged, thinking, “Why am I wasting my time here when he doesn’t even like me?” However, I reminded myself that I was there to help him and make him happy. So I made every effort to make friends with this boy, by patiently teaching him how to play baseball, how to overcome his physical limitations, and most importantly, by being nice and making him laugh happily.
To my great joy, my efforts paid off and Jack was beginning to accept me. As the weeks passed, a special bond developed between us. Sunday became Jack’s favorite time because he could play with me on the baseball field. And I loved spending time with him too, because watching him laugh brought me great pleasure. Sure enough, Jack has made me see the real value of life, which lies in helping and caring for others. The program has definitely turned out to be the best experience of my life — one that I look forward to every week.

【答案】
Finally, it was Jamie’s turn. He stood up, trembling slightly, but took a deep breath as Ethan’s advice echoed in his mind: “Think of it as telling a story.” Gripping his notes, Jamie began explaining solar panels, his voice shaky at first. Gradually, he focused on the diagrams he had worked so hard on. To his surprise, his classmates leaned forward, listening intently. When he mentioned wind turbines, he even gestured like spinning blades, drawing smiles. By the end, his voice grew steadier, and applause erupted. Relief washed over him — he had done it!
After the presentations, Jamie’s classmates came over to congratulate him. “Your passion really showed!” one exclaimed. Even the teacher praised his clear explanations. Ethan patted his shoulder, grinning, “See? They loved your story!” Jamie beamed, realizing his fear had faded once he shared his knowledge. That night, he felt proud — not because he was perfect, but because he had dared to try. The old oak tree seemed to whisper approval as he walked home, lighter than ever.

Bob’s mother watched him with a pained expression as he raised a shaking hand to touch the white sheet covering his legs. Bob broke down and cried. When the doctor entered the room, Bob had only one question on his mind, “How will I ever play football again?” Football was Bob’s life.

【答案】
Polly looked puzzled for a second, and then laughed, “OK, let’s do it.” They hurried to the small wood behind their house. Standing before the rock, they recalled their childhood attempts. Taking a deep breath, they began to climb. Polly led the way, showing Lily where to place her hands and feet. Lily followed closely, a bit nervous but excited. As they got higher, they encouraged each other. Polly’s strength and Lily’s determination combined, and they overcame every difficulty on the rock.
“Here we are.” Polly cheered, realizing it was time to apologize to Lily. “Lily, I'm sorry for what I did,” Polly said, looking at her sister sincerely. “I was too angry and took it out on you.” Lily smiled, “Me too. I shouldn't have pushed you.” They hugged tightly. The rock had not only been conquered physically, but also their misunderstanding and anger. From then on, they knew their sisterhood was more precious than any argument.

Suddenly, out of the corner of his eyes, he spotted a small pond shimmering beside the road. Water! Bees can’t sting underwater! Andy swerved sharply, racing toward it. He abandoned his bike and dived in just as the swarm neared. The cold water engulfed him; he held his breath, clutching a stone at the bottom. Above, bees buzzed angrily but couldn’t follow. After what felt like ages, the sound faded. Andy surfaced, panting, to find the coast clear.
Paragraph 2:
His mother laughed with relief. When Andy arrived home soaked, she hugged him tightly, tears of worry and joy in her eyes. “I heard about the bees,” she said, stroking his hair. His father nodded proudly, “You remembered what I said—stay calm.” Andy smiled, still shaky but proud. That night, as he dreamed of fishing, he realized: in danger, a cool head was his best weapon. The bees had taught him a lesson he’d never forget.

【答案】
Then came the day when Emily delivered her speech.
Emily stood on the stage, a bit nervous but with a determined look. As she started speaking, her southern accent was evident. Some in the audience seemed to sneer at first. Yet, as she poured out her love for her hometown, the unique stories and the warmth of her community, everyone was captivated. Her words carried the weight of her roots. When she finished, there was a moment of silence, followed by hearty applause. I watched in awe, realizing the power of her authenticity.
Suddenly, my grandmother’s words hit me.
“Girl, don’t forget where you come from.” I felt a deep sense of shame. I had been so wrong to try to change Emily and myself. Our accents were not flaws but symbols of our rich heritage. From that moment on, I decided to embrace my southern identity with pride. After the event, I apologized to Emily. She smiled and forgave me. We hugged, and I knew our friendship would be stronger, built on the foundation of self-acceptance and mutual respect.

【答案】
Before “three” could be counted, Barce stepped forward resolutely and stopped the referee. “I fouled,” he said loudly, pointing to his own punch. The referee paused, then changed the call. Kapa, on the mat, looked up in surprise. Barce helped him stand, saying, “We fight fair.” The crowd erupted in cheers for his honesty. Though exhausted, both boxers nodded at each other, ready to continue.
With an extra round, Barce defeated Kapa at the score of 110 to 108. As the bell rang, Kapa smiled and hugged Barce. “You won with honor,” he said. Barce replied, “You taught me what real sportsmanship is.” The audience stood, applauding their courage and integrity. Leaving the ring, they knew the true victory was in respecting each other, far more than any score.
