I entered a university after years of hard study. I thought my life would be full of happiness and knowledge. But my life in the university was not as what I had expected. Then I became lazy and silent, even puzzled (困惑的), I didn’t know what my future would be like.
Four years in the university is only a short period. And a half of it has passed already. This year, many people, such as my parents and my friends, asked me what I wanted to do and they all told me to make a plan for my life with their thought. I don’t want to take their advice. I want my own style. So I think carefully.
I have been a young volunteer for five years. It has been a happy time and it is a big thing for me. Then I have a dream of joining the University Student Volunteer Go West Program. I think I can be a teacher in the west. I would like to try my best to help them. I want to see the world clearly. To make it come true I will work harder in the next two years. There is an old saying “Where there is a will, there is a way”. I think my dream will come true in the near future.
At last, I want to say something to everybody, “Never give up your dreams, no matter how big or small they are. The path to dreams may not be smooth or wide. Even there are some difficulties you will face. But hold on to the end, and you can find there is no greater happiness than making your dream come true.”

Soon, it was time for their afternoon math class. Their teacher wrote a difficult problem on the blackboard. No one was able to work it out. Only the boy with the note on his back could.
After solving the problem, the teacher took the note off his back. She told him, “It seems that you didn’t care anyway.”
Then the teacher looked at the rest of the class and said, “First, all of you might be put a note by other people. All you have to do is no caring about that. Just learn to grow and improve.”
“And it seems that none of you were kind enough to tell this boy about the note. If that’s true, then you’d better hope that you have some good friends yourself. Otherwise (否则), you might be the one with a note on your back someday with no one to tell you.”

Many Chinese mothers are afraid of that their children will fall behind their classmates, so these mothers are becoming “tiger mother”. They believe the harder their children study, the happier life they will have in the future. Is it true? Lulu and her sister Sophia may have a say.
Lulu and Sophia have a “tiger mother”. She pushed them a lot when they were young. For example, they were not allowed to get grades lower than A. They had to practice the piano or violin for several hours a day. There were no games or TV. The tiger mother, Amy, is a Chinese-American professor (教授) at Yale Law School (耶鲁法律学院) in the USA. Several years ago, she wrote a book named Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother and shared her strict parenting style (育儿方式) in it.
Many people don’t like Amy’s style of parenting. They once worried that her daughters would not be happy. However, the two girls have grown up and they are thankful to their mother. Sophia just graduated from (毕业) Yale University (耶鲁大学). She is hard-working, friendly and helpful. Not long ago, she shared some useful studying methods online. Lulu is also a warm, smart and popular girl in her friends’ eyes. She said tiger mothers believed that a child could succeed by being pushed to go all out. Still, not everyone agrees with the tiger mother’s parenting style. In fact, there isn’t a parenting style that fits everyone. What’s the best parenting style for you? Maybe you should work it out together with your parents.

Helen used to get angry very easily. The whole family was troubled by her habit. Because of this, there was always an unhappy air over the family.
One day, her son’s teacher Johnson came to visit. She told him about her problem and asked for advice. Johnson took out a bottle of medicine, “Whenever you feel like you are angry, you should put four drops of medicine in your mouth for 10 minutes. Don’t open, or it won’t work well.”
From that day, Helen started using medicine and in ten days she changed her problem successfully. After ten days, when the teacher came again, Helen was very thankful, “Thanks to your medicine, my anger disappeared. What medicine was it?”
Johnson smiled, “In that bottle, it’s just water. Anger can only be solved by remaining silent, because you can’t talk with the water in your mouth. An angry person speaks without thinking and the trouble must increase because of this. A good way to solve anger is the silence.”

Dear Scott,
How is it going? These days we had a discussion about if students should do volunteer work. Here are the results.
Some students say it not only helps us to learn about life out of class, but also helps develop our life skills while doing volunteer work. It’s helpful for us to grow up. However, others disagree. They think we should spend more time on schoolwork. What more, there is too much stress in school.
As for me, I think we should do some volunteer work when we have free time. It not enough for us to just get good grades at school, and we should also learn how to help others.
What’s your opinion? Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours,
Li Hua
