【原文】
Good morning, everyone! Before our class, I’d like to share a story I’ve read recently. It’s about a couple named Scott and Shayna who became the third and fourth deaf people in the world to get to the top of Mount Everest.
For Scott, his passion for mountain climbing began when some of his friends tried to take climbing lessons near Mount Rainier. When he arrived for the lessons, he was told to pay a lot of money, So he refused. He turned to the videos on YouTube and he tried to learn as much as he could while watching them online. It was a very long, hard journey.
There were a lot of different barriers they had to go through to get to Everest. When they reach the top, they were really proud of themselves. I was moved by their spirits. When there are difficulties, we should face them bravely. We may suffer a lot in senior high school, but we must believe hard work can bring us a bright future.

You really can make free phone calls using the Internet.
Google Meet
Google Meet is an app-to-app calling service that works across desktop and mobile platforms. Video meetings are encrypted (加密), it also supports audio calls, and you can form massive group calls with up to 100 people. What’s more appealing is that Google Meet displays real-time captions (字幕) as the other person is speaking.
Signal
Signal lets you send and receive texts, make voice and video calls (including group calls), and share your location and files. It was developed with a focus on privacy and security; it uses end-to-end encryption to protect your messages and calls, so only you and the recipient can see or hear what you’re exchanging.
Google Voice
Google Voice is one of the best ways to make a call over the Internet. You get a real phone number, so you can make free calls to an actual phone number. Free calls you make with Google Voice must be to numbers in the United States or Canada, and they’re limited to three hours. However, you can continue to make a free call to the same number over and over again.
WhatsApp
Meta-owned WhatsApp is a popular texting app with hundreds of millions of users. However, you can also call your WhatsApp friends right from the app using only your Internet connection. You just need to confirm your phone number to get started. Once you’re using the app, you can start a new conversation to clearly see which of your contacts are also using WhatsApp, and then you can call them for free no matter where in the world they’re located. Group calls can include as many as 32 people.
21.What is a feature of Google Meet?
A.You can see what the speaker says.
B.It can be used for free anywhere in the world.

In the field of artificial intelligence, a new breakthrough player, DeepSeek, has recently gained significant attention on social media. It is an AI assistant developed by a Chinese company called DeepSeek.
Earlier in January 2025, DeepSeek released its AI model, which competes with leading models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT o1. What sets DeepSeek apart is its ability to develop high-performing AI models at a significantly lower cost. It’s built to assist with various tasks, from answering questions to generating content. However, unlike the American AI giants, which usually offer free versions but charge fees for access to higher-performing models and more responses, DeepSeek is entirely free to use.
DeepSeek operates as a conversational AI, meaning it can understand and respond to natural language inputs. It offers two large language models: DeepSeek-V3 and DeepThink (R1). They can be accessed via web pages or apps. DeepSeek-V3 works like the standard ChatGPT model, providing fast responses, generating text, rewriting emails and summarizing documents. DeepThink (R1) provides an alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT o1 model, which requires a subscription, but both DeepSeek models are free to use. What sets the DeepThink (R1) model apart from other AI tools is that it lays out the complete thought process and indicates the time it takes to generate the answer before providing a detailed reply.
AI models require large amounts of data to be trained effectively, sometimes including sensitive personal information. The use of personal data carries a risk of data leaks or misuse. DeepSeek’s privacy policy allows it to collect user data, such as text inputs, chat history, and device details, for training purposes. This has raised concerns about the potential misuse of personal information.
DeepThink (R1) is open-source (源代码开放的), allowing researchers and developers worldwide to access and improve the model. This challenges the market position of Western tech giants and encourages more innovation and collaboration in the AI field. Smaller companies and individual developers can now use advanced AI technology without the high costs of proprietary (专有的) models. The rise of DeepThink (R1) has forced well-established AI companies to reconsider their strategies. If they don’t innovate quickly, they risk becoming outdated in the changing market.
24.How does DeepSeek differ from American AI giants in terms of cost?
A.It charges for high - performing models.
B.It offers free access to all its models.
C.It has a more complex fee-charging system.
D.It provides free basic versions.
25.What is the unique feature of DeepThink (R1) compared to other AI tools?
A.It is open - source for worldwide use.
B.It can generate content quickly.
C.It can be accessed via both web pages and apps.
D.It shows the thought process and answer - generation time.
26.What concern has been raised about DeepSeek according to the passage?
A.Its models may not be as accurate as others.
B.It might disclose user’s privacy.
C.It is too expensive for small companies.
D.Its open - source nature may cause security issues.
27.What impact has DeepThink (R1) had on the AI market?
A.It has forced established AI companies to combine.
B.It has made Western tech giants dominate the market more.
C.It has motivated the creation and cooperation in the AI field.
D.It has increased the cost of using advanced AI technology.

Medha Pappula, an eighth-grader at Brambleton Middle School, is using her skill set to solve a problem — bullying(霸凌). She recently earned an award (获奖) from National Bullying Prevention Center (NBPC) for her anti-bullying efforts in software development and animation (动画).
Pappula, 13, said she discovered that a classmate had experienced cyberbullying(网络霸凌), which was painful for her to learn about. “Even though I didn’t experience it, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, even my worst enemy,” Pappula said.
Then she developed a program that recognizes when digital and text-based messages include bullying language. The program takes a message, and then recognizes signs of bullying and gives a rating to the cyberbullying, the teen said. If the rating is high, she said, “the program can be used to carry out things like removing that message or reporting it.”
Pappula first designed and tested the program for Discord, a popular community-based messaging platform (平台), and said she plans to develop it for even bigger platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
In addition to this program, the NBPC awarded Pappula for a three-minute animated video about Unity Day, which she created and shared on YouTube last October. Unity Day, according to the video, was started by the NBPC in 2011 to raise bullying awareness among school-age children. Schools encourage their students to wear orange on Unity Day, as it is “a color that is connected with safety,” the website reads.
Pappula visited different websites to develop her animation skills several years ago. She spent more than a month creating her 2-D animated video using an animation software called Krita. The effort paid off, as nearly 6,000 people have already viewed the “Unity Day” video on YouTube. Along with being posted to the NBPC webpage, her animation was also shared by Cartoon Network. Moving forward, Pappula hopes to continue to work with the NBPC and to use her skills to lift those around her.
28.How did Pappula feel about bullying?
A.It upset her life a lot. B.It could be stopped easily.
C.It happened online most often. D.It shouldn’t happen to anyone.
29.How does Pappula’s program work?
A.By sending voice messages.
B.By removing useless messages.
C.By sending its users important reports.
D.By grading messages according to the language used.
30.What did Pappula do to make the animated video?
A.She asked the NBPC for help. B.She taught herself animation.
C.She learned from an expert. D.She created Krita.

Lynn Jenner quickly packed up and drove to higher ground as Hurricane Hone approached in 2024. However, he wasn’t relocating his family; he was shifting snails.
Jenner works with some of the rarest endangered species on the planet — Hawaii’s native tree snails. Once abundant like Christmas ornaments on trees, these colorful, jewel-like snails are now mostly extinct with more than half of the 750 species vanishing within the span of a human lifetime. Jenner and his team with Hawaii’s Department of Land and Natural Resources face the monumental task of saving what’s left.
To beat extinction, 40 species of snails, each about the size of a dime, are being cared for by humans in an unremarkable trailer near Honolulu. “Most people think of pandas and tigers when they think of endangered species going extinct, but imagine having 40 different species that are all as rare as pandas.” Jenner says.
This winter, one species of snail will reach a significant milestone. It will be released in a special enclosure in the mountains of Oahu, which has been painstakingly prepared to give the snails the best chance of survival in their natural habitat.
However, the outlook for Hawaii’s snails remain uncertain. Around the globe, plants and animals are being brought into enclosure as a last-ditch effort against extinction. But with climate change and the spread of invasive species, many have no clear path back to the wild in the near term. This could mean they will remain under human care. In light of the biodiversity crisis, many wildlife biologists believe there’s no other option. “These are irreplaceable biological treasures,” Jenner says. “It is now or never. What we manage to preserve on Earth will be what the next generation can reintroduce.”
32.What does the text say about Hawaii’s tree snails?
A.They live as long as humans. B.Over 375 species have disappeared.
C.Their population has increased. D.They are close to extinction.
33.How does Lynn Jenner help endangered snails?
A.By restoring their habitats. B.By studying their behavior.
C.By reducing invasive species. D.By moving and caring for them.
34.What is the purpose of Paragraph 4?
A.To compare snails to pandas. B.To explain snails’ survival in nature.
C.To stress a key snail release event. D.To describe why snails are in a trailer.
35.What can be concluded from the last paragraph?
A.Popular species should be prioritized. B.Human care is vital for endangered species.
C.Biodiversity conservation faces uncertainty. D.Climate change alone causes snail extinction.

第二节 (满分25分)

续写的词数应为150左右。
When I was young, I lived on an island in the north of Scotland, but I attended a music school in Edinburgh. The school was a boarding school, and I studied the violin. Every day, we practiced for six hours. At the end of each term, all the students packed their bags and instruments to go home for the holidays. Most of the kids went by train, bus, or their parents picked them up by car. But not me! I went home by ferry (渡船) — 14 hours overnight on the open sea. I loved the adventure!
One summer, I packed my suitcase and violin and said goodbye to my friends. I took the train to the ferry station, excited to head home. As the ferry started moving away from the dock (码头) , I suddenly remembered something terrible — I had left my violin on the train! Panic flooded me. What should I do? What would my dad say when I told him? He would definitely be angry! I went to ask a crew member for help, but he said the ferry couldn’t turn back. I felt even worse.
That night, I couldn’t sleep. I spent hours worrying about my dad’s reaction and whether my violin would be lost forever. The violin was so important to me, and I couldn’t imagine what would happen if I lost it. I tried to convince myself that it was only an instrument and that I would somehow figure it out, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the mistake I had made.
The next morning, when I stepped off the ferry, I still didn’t feel ready to face my dad. He was waiting for me, and I was afraid of his reaction. I walked up to him and explained what had happened, feeling terrible. To my surprise, he started laughing! I was confused. Why was he laughing? I had made a huge mistake, and he was laughing about it?
注意:
(1) 续写词数应为150左右;
(2) 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
My dad explained everything with a smile.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
That evening, as I sat by the window playing my “lost” violin, I couldn’t help but reflect on the whole experience.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
My dad explained everything with a smile. “When you called the ferry crew, they immediately contacted the train station,” he said, his eyes twinkling with amusement. “The conductor found your violin still on the seat and kept it safe at the lost and found. I picked it up this morning when I got the message.” He pulled my violin case from behind his back, its familiar blue surface slightly scuffed but otherwise unharmed. Relief washed over me like a warm wave, and I hugged the case tightly to my chest. Dad patted my shoulder, adding, “Everyone makes mistakes, but what matters is how we handle them. You tried to solve the problem, and that’s what counts.” His unexpected reaction taught me that parents’ love often outweighs their disappointment.
That evening, as I sat by the window playing my “lost” violin, I couldn’t help but reflect on the whole experience. The moonlight danced on the strings as my bow moved across them, producing a melody that seemed sweeter than ever before. I realized how much I had taken both my instrument and my father’s understanding for granted. The panic of losing the violin and the fear of facing Dad had been overwhelming, but the resolution had brought unexpected warmth. Through this adventure, I learned that mistakes don’t define us — it’s our honesty in admitting them and others’ compassion in forgiving them that truly matter. The music flowing from my violin that night carried not just notes, but a newfound appreciation for responsibility and family.

31.Which word can best describe Pappula?
A.Honest. B.Caring. C.Polite. D.Proud.

C. Their population has increased.

Dear David,
How is everything going? Since you like exploring new things, I’m writing to invite you to visit the Sky Farm, a smart-tech farm organized by our school next Friday.
The farm combines advanced technology with traditional farming methods. It is known for its eco-friendly practices and latest systems like automatic watering and machine picking. It was fascinating to see how technology made agriculture more efficient and environmentally friendly. The visit was not only educational but also inspiring, as it opened my eyes to the potential of modern farming techniques. I can't wait to see how these advancements will shape our future.
I’m really excited about this trip because it combines science with nature. It’s a perfect chance to learn about sustainable farming and bond with classmates. I believe it’ll inspire us to think creatively about future challenges.
Let me know if you can join us! Looking forward to your reply.
第二节(满分25分)
【参考答案】

Hello everyone, it's now seven o'clock in the morning time for our radios, hardly weather report. If you're just about to leave your house, don't forget to take your umbrella with you. The rain is expected to start in the early morning, so prepare to protect yourself. However, the sky will clear this afternoon, and the temperature will be twelve degrees south, as IT will be a much cooler day tomorrow, with the hight of only five degrees south as the coldest day in several months. So you need a warm coat when you head out in the morning. Now for the traffic report on highway fifty five going east, traffic is moving slowly. So if you're heading east, we recommend taking highway twenty five. But remember that highway repair is about to begin tomorrow along highway twenty six from number fifteen street up to the road exit. You may want to avoid that area for the next few weeks. Now after a break, we will be with tony for the sports updates, so please stay with us. Hello everyone, it's now seven o'clock in the morning time for our radios, hardly weather report.
C.No password is needed to attend online meetings.

31.Which word can best describe Pappula?
A.Honest. B.Caring. C.Polite. D.Proud.

C. Their population has increased.

That evening, as I sat by the window playing my “lost” violin, I couldn’t help but reflect on the whole experience.
