Leonardo da Vinci Often referred to as a “Renaissance man”, Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) not only left behind notebooks filled with scientific observations and illustrations, but was also known for his works of art such as Virgin of the Rocks, Lady With an Ermine, Vitruvian Man, the Last Supper, the Mona Lisa. The last one still remains as the most visited work of art in the world. Michelangelo Buonarroti Known for his attention to detail and his knowledge of human body, Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) is celebrated as one of history’s finest sculptors. During his lifetime, the Florentine artist created several masterpieces admired for their lifelike details. These works include the iconic David (1501-1504) housed in Florence’s Galleria dell’Accademia, the monumental Pieta (1513-1515) in the Vatican, and his series of Dying Slaves (1513-1515) located in the Louvre. Tiziano Vecelli Among the great names of the Italian Renaissance — Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino — there is also Tiziano Vecelli (1488-1576), the master of color. Sacred and Profane Love(1514) is one of the artist’s early paintings, which was made to commemorate (纪念) the marriage of the man who bought it. This work is an excellent example of Tiziano’s mastery of color. 1. Which is probably Leonardo da Vinci’s most popular artwork? A. Vitruvian Man. B. The Mona Lisa. C. The Last Supper. D. Virgin of the Rocks. 2. Where is Pieta permanently displayed? A. In the Louvre. B. In Sistine Chapel. C. In the Vatican. D. In Galleria dell’Accademia. 3. Who is best known for his skillful use of color? A. Tiziano Vecelli. B. Michelangelo Buonarroti. C Leonardo da Vinci. D. Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino. B 2. C 3. 根据Leonardo da Vinci部分中“Often referred to as a “Renaissance man”, Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) not only left behind notebooks filled with scientific observations and illustrations, but was also known for his works of art such as Virgin of the Rocks, Lady With an Ermine, Vitruvian Man, the Last Supper, the Mona Lisa. The last one still remains as the most visited work of art in the world.(达·芬奇常被称为“文艺复兴时期的人”,他不仅留下了充满科学观察和插图的笔记本,而且还以他的艺术作品而闻名,如《岩间圣母》、《抱银鼠的女子》、《维特鲁威人》、《最后的晚餐》和《蒙娜丽莎》。最后一个仍然是世界上参观人数最多的艺术品)”可推断,《蒙娜丽莎》是他最流行的作品。故选B。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据Michelangelo Buonarroti部分中“These works include the iconic David (1501-1504) housed in Florence’s Galleria dell’Accademia, the monumental Pieta (1513-1515) in the Vatican, and his series of Dying Slaves (1513-1515) located in the Louvre.(这些作品包括收藏在佛罗伦萨学院美术馆的标志性作品《大卫》(1501-1504)、梵蒂冈的纪念性作品《圣母怜子》(1513-1515)、卢浮宫的《垂死的奴隶》系列(1513-1515))”可知,Pieta是由梵蒂冈博物馆永久收藏的。 根据Tiziano Vecelli部分中“Among the great names of the Italian Renaissance — Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino — there is also Tiziano Vecelli (1488-1576), the master of color.(在意大利文艺复兴时期的伟大人物中——列奥纳多·达·芬奇、米开朗基罗·博纳罗蒂、拉斐尔·桑齐奥·达·乌尔比诺——还有色彩大师蒂齐亚诺·维切利(1488-1576))”可知,Tiziano Vecelli以其对色彩的熟练运用而闻名。故选A。 B In recent years, there has been a noticeable change in the attitude towards animal welfare here in the Philippines, a movement that I hope will lead to lasting, systemic change. Among the many inspiring and pioneering animal welfare advocates doing the good work here in the country is Rina Ortiz, founder of Biyaya Animal Care, who has a strong understanding of the popular landscape here in the country. While other animal welfare programs are dependent only on donor funding or government support, Biyaya Animal Care serves as a model on sustainable animal welfare advocacy — operating a pet clinic and using earnings to support over a thousand pets housed in an animal shelter in Alfonso, Cavite. This, of course, was made possible because Ortiz understands the challenges caused by limited resources — both from the government and the private sector—in supporting animal welfare, prompting her to find sustainable solutions to support this important cause. The Biyaya Animal Care model proves the importance of adaptability and resourcefulness. Through a self-sustaining mechanism, Biyaya Animal Care shows that animal welfare doesn’t have to be a zero-sum game but rather a cooperation where the private sector can play a more active role in pushing for the cause. I share Ortiz’s passion for sustainable animal welfare advocacy; which is why I introduced the cause to my own workplace, Meralco, and went a step further by institutionalizing it. Through Meralco, employees are able to contribute to efforts to address the overpopulation problem of homeless cats with neutering (绝育) programs.. By doing so, it also contributes to improving public health conditions since controlling the growth of the homeless animal population through neutering helps minimize the risk of rabies (狂犬病). Thus that would not only benefit animals but also contribute to the improvement of community life, public health and safety. 4. How does Biyaya Animal Care support animal rescues? A. By asking for government funding. B. By full reliance on public donations. C. With the help of other welfare programs. D. Through operating a pet clinic and using its profits. 5. What does the underlined word “prompting” in paragraph 4 mean: A. Inspiring. B. Inviting. C. Promising. D. Helping. 6. What is the author’s attitude towards Rina Ortiz’s business model? A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. indifferent. 7. What can be inferred about animal welfare in the Philippines? A. People’s concern is decreasing. B. Positive changes are taking place. C. Resources are plentiful for related work. D. The private business plays the leading role. D 5. A 6. C 7. 根据第三段“While other animal welfare programs are dependent only on donor funding or government support, Biyaya Animal Care serves as a model on sustainable animal welfare advocacy — operating a pet clinic and using earnings to support over a thousand pets housed in an animal shelter in Alfonso, Cavite. (当其他动物福利项目只依赖于捐赠资金或政府支持时,Biyaya动物护理是可持续动物福利倡导的典范——经营一家宠物诊所,并利用收入支持住在Cavite Alfonso动物收容所的1000多只宠物)”可知,Biyaya Animal Care通过运营宠物诊所,利用所得收益来支持动物救助。故选D。 【5题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第四段“This, of course, was made possible because Ortiz understands the challenges caused by limited resources — both from the government and the private sector — in supporting animal welfare, prompting her to find sustainable solutions to support this important cause. (当然,这一切之所以成为可能,是因为奥尔蒂斯明白,在支持动物福利方面,政府和私营部门的资源有限所带来的挑战,……她寻找可持续的解决方案来支持这一重要事业)”可知,奥尔蒂斯明白资源有限带来的挑战,这促使她去寻找可持续的解决办法来支持这项重要事业。可知,prompting在此语境中有“推动、促使某人去做某事”的意思,与Inspiring 意思相近。故选A。 根据倒数第二段“I share Ortiz’s passion for sustainable animal welfare advocacy; which is why I introduced the cause to my own workplace, Meralco, and went a step further by institutionalizing it. (我和奥尔蒂斯一样热衷于倡导可持续的动物福利;这就是为什么我把这项事业介绍给我自己的工作场所,Meralco,并进一步将其制度化)”可知,作者不仅赞同Rina Ortiz的经营模式,还将其引人到自己的工作场所并制度化,说明作者对 Ortiz的经营模式持支持态度。故选C。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据全文,尤其是首段“In recent years, there has been a noticeable change in the attitude towards animal welfare here in the Philippines, a movement that I hope will lead to lasting, systemic change. (近年来,菲律宾对动物福利的态度有了明显的变化,我希望这一运动将带来持久的、系统性的变化)”可推断,菲律宾动物福利方面态度有明显转变,暗示积极的改变正在发生。故选B。 C New Curtin University-led research has uncovered what may be the oldest direct. evidence of ancient hot water activity on Mars, showing the planet may have been habitable at some point in its past. The study analyzed a 4.45 billion-year-old zircon (锆石) grain from the famous Martian meteorite (陨石) NWA7034, also known as Black Beauty, and found geochemical “fingerprints” of water-rich liquids. Study co-author Dr Aaron Cavosie from Curtin’s School of Earth and Planetary Sciences said the discovery opened up new approaches for understanding ancient Martian overheated-liquid systems associated with magmatism (岩浆), as well as the planet’s past habitability. “We used nano-scale (纳米级) geochemistry to detect elemental evidence of hot water on Mars 4.45 billion years ago,” Dr Cavosie said. “Overheated-liquid systems were essential for the development of life on Earth and our findings suggest Mars also had water, a key factor for habitable environments, during the earliest history of surface formation.” Through nano-scale imaging, the team identified element patterns in this unique zircon, including iron, aluminum, yttrium and sodium. These elements were added as the zircon formed4.45 billion years ago, suggesting water was present during early Martian magmatic activity. Dr Cavosie said the research showed that even though Mars’ surface suffered massive meteorite strikes that caused major surface change, water was present during the early Pre-Noachian period, prior to about 4.1 billion years ago. “A 2022 Curtin study of the same zircon grain found it had been ‘shocked’ by a meteorite strike, marking it as the first and only known shocked zircon from Mars,” Dr Cavosie said. “This new study takes us a step further in understanding early Mars, by way of identifying tell-tale signs of water-rich liquids from when the grain formed, providing geochemical markers of water in the oldest known Martian surface.” 8. How does the author mainly present the research findings in the text? A. By comparing Mars with Earth. B. By giving examples and explanations. C. By quoting the words of the researchers. D. By listing a series of scientific experiments. 9. What did the nano-scale imaging find in the zircon? A. Ancient life forms. B. Hot water’s location. C. Mars’ formation time. D. Specific element patterns. 10. What can we learn about Mars from the research? A. Its surface has never changed. B. It has always been uninhabitable. C. It might have been life-friendly early. D. Water only existed on it before 4.45 billion years ago. 11. Where can the text be found? A. In a science magazine. B. In a novel. C. In a tourist guidebook. D. In a history book. 8. C 9. D 10. C 11. To improve or even remove this condition, research has given rise to many promising technologies. Among these is non-invasive (无创的) brain stimulation: a term covering a set of techniques that can affect brain functions non-invasively from the outside, without the need for surgery. One such promising technique, in particular, is anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (atDCS). Now, scientists have identified an important factor affecting an individual’s responsiveness to atDCS. The team looked at how native learning abilities determine the effect of brain stimulation applied while learning a motor task. Their findings suggest that individuals with less efficient learning mechanisms benefit more from stimulation, while those with optimal (最优的) learning strategies might experience negative effects. The researchers employed 40 participants: 20 middle-aged adults (50 — 65 years old) and 20 older adults (over 65). Each group was further divided into those receiving active atDCS and those receiving placebo (安慰剂) stimulation. Over ten days, participants practiced a finger-tapping task designed to study motor list learning at home while receiving atDCS. The task involved copying a numerical list using a keyboard, trying to be as fast and as accurate as possible. The team then used a machine-learning model to classify participants as either “optimal” or “sub-optimal” learners, based on their first performance. The study found that sub-optimal learners who were seemingly less efficient at completing the task at the early stages of learning, experienced a quick accuracy improvement while performing the task when receiving atDCS. This effect was not limited to people of a certain age, with sub-optimal learners being found among younger individuals as well. In contrast, participants with optimal learning strategies, regardless of age, even showed a negative tendency in performance when receiving atDCS. This difference suggests that brain stimulation is more beneficial for individuals who firstly struggle with motor tasks. As such, atDCS seems to possess a restorative rather than a strengthening quality, with important significance for recovery. 12. What is atDCS? A. A technique only for older adults. B. A way to transfer something into the brain. C. A non-invasive brain stimulation technique. D. A surgical method to improve cognitive functions. 13. What can we conclude from the study about atDCS? A. It is only useful for older adults in improving motor tasks. B. It has different effects on people with different learning strategies. C. It has no significant effects on the performance of any participants D. It has a positive effect on the participants who are good at logical thinking. 14. What’s the main idea of paragraph 4? A. The result of the experiment on different age groups. B. The way to classify participants as different learners. C. The importance of the finger-tapping task in the study. D. The introduction of the participants and the experimental process. 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. The Influence of Learning Abilities on the Effect of atDCS B. The Importance of Motor Tasks in Cognitive Improvement C. The Development of Non-invasive Brain Stimulation Technologies D. A Comparative Study of Motor Task Completion in Different Age Groups 【答案】12. C 13. B 14. D 15. 根据第二段“Among these is non-invasive (无创的) brain stimulation: a term covering a set of techniques that can affect brain functions non-invasively from the outside, without the need for surgery. One such promising technique, in particular, is anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (atDCS).(其中有一种技术称为无创脑刺激:这是一种涵盖了一系列技术的术语,这些技术可以从外部以非侵入的方式影响大脑功能,无需进行手术。特别是,有一种非常有前景的技术叫做阳极经颅直流电刺激(atDCS))”可知,atDCS是一种无创脑刺激技术。故选C。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“Their findings suggest that individuals with less efficient learning mechanisms benefit more from stimulation, while those with optimal (最优的) learning strategies might experience negative effects.(他们的研究结果表明,学习机制效率较低的个体从刺激中获益更多,而那些拥有最优学习策略的人可能会经历负面效果)”可知,研究发现atDCS对不同学习策略的人群有不同的效果:学习机制效率较低的人受益更多,而拥有最优学习策略的人可能会受到负面影响。 根据第四段开头“The researchers employed 40 participants: 20 middle-aged adults (50 — 65 years old) and 20 older adults (over 65).(研究人员招募了40名参与者:20名中年人(50至65岁)和20名老年人(65岁以上))”介绍了实验参与者的情况,后面“Each group was further divided into those receiving active atDCS and those receiving placebo (安慰剂) stimulation. Over ten days, participants practiced a finger-tapping task designed to study motor list learning at home while receiving atDCS. The task involved copying a numerical list using a keyboard, trying to be as fast and as accurate as possible. The team then used a machine-learning model to classify participants as either “optimal” or “sub-optimal” learners, based on their first performance.(每个小组进一步分为两组:一组接受活跃的阳极经颅直流电刺激(atDCS),另一组接受安慰剂刺激。 故选A。 Starting new healthy habits can seem challenging at first. Last Friday, he and his coworkers started their team-building trip to Mount Shavano, which is one of the peaks in Colorado at an altitude (海拔高度) of 14,000 feet. Although it was very challenging to climb, they reached the top of the mountain at 11:30 in the morning. They spent a wonderful time admiring the amazing scenery and then decided to go down the mountain. In the afternoon, they took different paths down the mountain. Brady’s coworkers started making their way down the mountain first and chose a route directly to the foot of the mountain, where they planned to meet Brady. Brady, believing he could go down the mountain alone, chose another path. Unfortunately, as he continued to move forward, he got lost. Brady found himself trapped in a pile of rocks, unable to find a safe path forward or backward. The sun was starting to set, and he was a little scared. He realized that he couldn’t find a way out, so he sent his GPS location to a coworker on his phone. The coworker suggested that he turn back to the original path and try the direct route. Following the coworker’s advice, Brady attempted to return to the main path. About 40minutes later, Brady sent a text message to the coworker saying that he was approaching the original path but still far from the foot of the mountain. However, just as be was about to reach the main path, Brady’s foot caught on a hidden rock. With a sharp pain shooting through his leg, he fell hard. He knew immediately that he had injured his leg badly; it ached with every small movement he made. Panic began to set in as he realized that his already difficult situation had just become much worse. Thankfully, Brady’s coworkers, who had grown worried after not hearing from him for a while, had already started making their way up the mountain to look for him. When they finally found Brady, he was pale and sweating from the pain. One of the coworkers used to be a first-aid helper. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The way down was very dangerous, especially with an injured person. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: One of the coworkers used to be a first-aid helper. He quickly knelt down to check Brady’s injury. Gently touching the swollen part, he couldn’t help but feel sorry for Brady. Two of them tore their jackets into long strips to make a simple splint. They tied it tightly around Brady’s leg to keep the broken area still. When they picked Brady up, he said sorry softly for being so careless. “Don’t worry,” a coworker said. “We’re all in this together now.” Then, they started the tough trip back, and Brady’s weight really tested their strength. The way down was very dangerous, especially with an injured person. Every few minutes, they had to pause. The person carrying Brady needed to catch his breath. The uneven terrain added to their struggle, but they didn’t give up and took turns to shoulder Brady. Finally, they saw their cars. Everyone felt so relieved. Brady, even in pain, looked at his friends with wet eyes. He knew he’d been really silly, regretting his impulsive choice deeply, which would always remind him to stay together during adventures. 词汇激活 行为类 ①查看:check/examine/view ②撕:tear/rip ③系,扎:tie/string 情绪类 ①冲动的:impulsive/impetuous ②懊悔的:sorry/regretful/repentant 【点睛】【高分句型1】Gently touching the swollen part, he couldn’t help but feel sorry for Brady. C. Leonardo da Vinci. D. Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino. B In recent years, there has been a noticeable change in the attitude towards animal welfare here in the Philippines, a movement that I hope will lead to lasting, systemic change. C New Curtin University-led research has uncovered what may be the oldest direct. evidence of ancient hot water activity on Mars, showing the planet may have been habitable at some point in its past. D As we age, our cognitive and motor (运动) functions worsen, which in turn affects our independence and overall quality of life. The study found that sub-optimal learners, who were seemingly less efficient at completing the task at the early stages of learning, experienced a quick accuracy improvement while performing the task when receiving atDCS. C It has no significant effects on the performance of any participants D. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
