With their long necks, big eyes and thick fur, the camel family is like a big group of camel cousins. Today, we’ll meet three members of the big family.
Bactrian camel (双峰驼)
Bactrian camels have two humps (驼峰). The humps store fat and the fat can be turned into water and energy. This allows Bactrian camels to live for weeks without water, even while carrying heavy things in deserts.
Llama (美洲驼)
Llamas don’t have humps. But they’re also good at carrying heavy things. They’re smart enough. If you try to give them too much to carry, they’ll just stand there and not move at all. Llamas spit (吐口水). Their spit smells bad.
Alpaca (羊驼)
Alpacas look cute. So they become the favorite animals when children visit the zoo. Alpacas get a haircut once a year to help keep healthy and happy. Their wool (驼毛) is soft and can be used to make warm clothes, hats or gloves. But they can’t help people carry heavy things.
1. What allows Bactrian camels to live without water for weeks?
A. Humps. B. Spits. C. Wool.
2. Why do children love Alpacas?
A. They are smart. B. They are happy. C. They look cute.

Imagine a smart city as a big, clever robot that can “think” and make decisions to make everything work in a smart way! For example, the rubbish bins “tell” the garbage trucks when they are full. The buildings can “talk” to computers to help save energy. All of this happens because of technologies which can make the city smart.
Internet of things (IOT, 物联网)
Picture this: as you get close to your home your smartwatch tells your home to turn on the lights. IOT can help to do this. It connects everything to the Internet. It’s like having lots of little smart helpers. They “send messages” to things in the city and let them work together.
Online maps
We all use online maps like Baidu Map to find our way from one place to another. But did you know some maps can even show cities in 3D? These maps show much information of a city, such as streets and buildings, so we can avoid busy roads.
Big data (大数据)
Big data works like the brain of the city, helping it make decisions. For example, data from cars on the road can tell us where traffic jams are happening.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
AI helps to deal with the data. More importantly, it learns from the data and becomes smarter. In fact, AI can help with almost everything—it can work as a delivery man (快递员), or even help to design cars.
4. How many technologies are mentioned in the article?
A. 3. B. 4. C. 5.
5. What can online maps help do?
A. Turn on lights. B. Design 3D cities. C. Avoid busy roads.
6. Which technology is described as “the brain of the city”?
A. IOT. B. Big data. C. AI.
7. Where is the article most probably taken from?
A. A science magazine. B. A history novel. C. A travel guide.
C
Have you ever experienced this? You hear a song you used to sing as a child, and suddenly, the words come back to you as clearly as if you were singing them just yesterday. It feels like the memory isn’t from long ago—it’s as fresh as ever!
Researchers at the University of Edinburgh explored the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. They found that music can aid foreign language learning. They took 60 adults and divided them into three groups. Then they gave the groups three different types of “listen-and-repeat” learning conditions. The first group simply spoke the words, the second spoke them to a rhythm (节奏), and the third sang the words. All groups learned Hungarian (匈牙利语) words for 15 minutes. Hungarian was chosen because it is unfamiliar to most people and unrelated to common languages, making it a challenging new language to learn.
After the tests were over, the singers came out on top. The people who learned these new Hungarian words by singing them showed a higher overall performance. They did the best in four out of five of the tests. They performed twice better than those who simply learned the words by speaking them. The rhythm group did better than the speaking group but not as well as the singing group.
Dr. Katie Overy says singing can lead to new ways to learn a foreign language. The brain likes to remember things when they are in a catchy or memorable tune (曲调). Dr. Ludke says the findings can help those who have trouble learning foreign languages. He believes this study suggests that a listen-and-repeat singing method can support foreign language learning.
8. How does the writer begin the article?
A. By introducing a famous song.
B. By describing a common experience.
C. By talking about childhood memories.
9. Why was Hungarian chosen for the study?
A. Because it is easy for people to learn.
B. Because it is unfamiliar to most people.
C. Because it is a popular language worldwide.
10. Which is close to the underlined word “catchy” in meaning in Paragraph 4?
A. 易使人上当的 B. 抓住眼球的 C. 悦耳易记的
11. What’s the purpose of the article?
A. To describe how to speak with rhythm.
B. To explain why learning is important.
C. To suggest a language learning method.

第一节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

Plogging is a fun and environmentally-friendly activity that combines jogging with picking up rubbish. It’s becoming increasingly popular because it is good for both your health and the environment. People of all ages can join in plogging, making it a great way to exercise while doing something good for the planet.
One of the main advantages of plogging is that it is a more effective (有效的) workout than regular jogging because picking up rubbish increases physical activity. At the same time, plogging helps cut down pollution. For example, plastic waste can harm animals and nature, and by picking it up, you protect wildlife and the environment.
Additionally, plogging brings people together. You can invite friends, family, or neighbors to join, turning it into a group activity. Many communities organize ploggings where groups clean up parks or streets while exercising. These activities help people have a better understanding of teamwork.
Plogging also encourages people to be responsible for protecting our Earth. Small efforts, like picking up some rubbish during a jog, can lead to amazing changes. If everyone took part, our cities would become cleaner and more pleasant.
All in all, plogging is a simple yet meaningful way to stay active and care for the environment. Next time you go jogging, bring a bag and try plogging. My Healthy Diet
A healthy diet means eating different kinds of food that help our body grow and stay strong. For breakfast, I usually have a bowl of oatmeal with some fresh fruits like bananas and strawberries. Oatmeal gives me energy, and fruits provide vitamins. For lunch, I often have rice, some stir-fried vegetables, and a little bit of lean meat. It’s a balanced meal. For dinner, I prefer soup and steamed buns. To improve my diet, I will try to eat more fish because it is rich in protein and good for my brain. Also, I will drink more water instead of sugary drinks. I think my diet is mostly healthy, but there is still room for improvement. I believe a healthy diet is the key to a healthy life.
