记叙文
1.(23-24高二下.天津滨海新区塘沽一中.期中)
Technological progress has transformed every aspect of my life. I bank online and learn online. Just like other young people, when I’m hungry and busy, I will order food through a food delivery app, especially during the pandemic. These apps are fast and convenient.
A survey of the food delivery service online conducted in the US shows that 26% of the people surveyed use food delivery service once a week, while 24% order food 2—3 times per week. Some have meals delivered even more often, with 8% ordering 6 times per week.
However, I deleted Uber Eats from my phone two months ago. Not because I didn’t like using it. I loved it. I can order precisely what I feel like eating. And I can have that hot meal delivered to my door within about 30 minutes with only a small fee. It’s the kind of on-demand service that used to be reserved for the ultra-wealthy. Now ordinary people, like me, lying on their couches, working late in their living rooms, or isolating themselves at home during the pandemic can enjoy it, too.
However, I was shocked when I knew that five delivery riders were killed in three months last spring. Some riders sometimes were paid at rates lower than the minimum wage or without much of the basic protection enjoyed by the rest of us. They were also doing their jobs in an unsafe working environment — our city streets. This is particularly the case in Sydney, where some major media organizations have complained about the construction of safe cycling infra-structure(基础设施)for decades and worse still, state governments have previously torn up bike paths.
So I deleted the app and haven’t used it, or any of its competitors, since then. I have no illusions that my standpoint will make a big difference. But I think our governments need to fight against the companies reshaping our lives and our communities for the worse to make our cities safer for everyone, including cyclists.
41. What does the survey conducted in the US tell us?
A. The use of food delivery apps. B. The quality of food delivery apps.
C. People’s preference for certain apps. D. Influences of the food delivery service on people’s life.
42. What can we learn about Uber Eats from Paragraph 3?
A. It used to deliver hot food. B. It can satisfy different users’ demands.
C. It favors a particular group of people. D It was the most popular app during the pandemic.
43. What’s the main reason for the author’s deleting Uber Eats?
A. The extra delivery fee. B. The attraction from other apps.
C. Delivery riders’ safety problems. D. Heavy traffic jams caused by delivery riders.
44. What’s the author’s purpose of writing the last paragraph?
A. To ask us to rethink the advantages of technological advances.
B. To call on us to play a role in the community development.
C. To state the problems of commercial companies.
D. To appeal to governments to make some changes.
45. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Why I gave up using food delivery apps B. The rise and fall of Uber Eats
C. My addiction to social apps D. How I can live with apps

Many years ago, my mother read from the book Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey to me. I remember as if it were yesterday, hearing her voice at my side on a cold wintry night. My mother’s voice changed my world.
Long before I could read on my own, she shared with me the strength and beauty of McCloskey’s language in a story of a little girl and her mother out in nature, co-existing with a mother bear and its baby. The power of the story, of language and of my mother all came together. And it happened many times after that, over and over. The read aloud made me a reader.
Years later, I was reading aloud a picture book to a small child in a classroom. His life, so far, had not been easy. His childhood was troubled by poverty and loneliness. In that moment, in the joy of the read aloud, he had an idea that started something big.
What he said was this: “Mrs. Allyn, let’s make sure everyone knows how good this feels. Let’s have a holiday for the read aloud.” Therefore, my organization, LitWorld, created a grassroots movement World Read Aloud Day in 2010 to honor this young boy’s wish for everyone to be able to have a read aloud every day.
Since the day he shared that good idea with us, World Read Aloud Day has become a worldwide event, reaching over one million people in more than 65 countries around the world. This year we are over 600 cities strong, a number that is growing every day.
Children who grow up as readers become engaged citizens of the global world, and every child deserves the right to read. When I say that reading aloud will change the world, I know it sounds simple. But one of the many great things about giving kids access to the power of stories and sharing them together is that it is simple. It is also cheap and easily done. And the impact is huge.
41. What did the author’s mother do when she was a child?
A. She read aloud to her. B. She listened to her reading.
C. She bought many books for her. D. She encouraged her to read aloud.
42. According to Paragraph 3, the relationship between the author and the little boy was probably ______.
A. mother and child B. teacher and student
C. boss and worker D. writer and reader
43. What does the small child’s idea in the passage refer to?
A. To reduce poverty. B. To overcome loneliness.
C. To have a holiday for the read aloud. D. To create a World Read Aloud Day.
44. What can we infer from Paragraph 5?
A. World Read Aloud Day has developed quickly.
B. This year World Read Aloud Day are over 600 cities strong.
C. World Read Aloud Day has become a worldwide event.
D. World Read Aloud Day has reached over one million people.
45. What conclusion can we draw from the last paragraph?
A. Sticking to reading isn’t easy. B. Reading aloud isn’t actually simple.
C. Reading can benefit children easily. D. Kids should try to change the world.

Rob Shuter is a gossip columnist (漫谈栏作者), born partially deaf, with severely limited function in the one arm that is shorter than the other. Shuter’s own experience made him not only interested in what distinguishes people from one another, but also confident in his own differences.
Where does he gain such confidence? Shuter says that his family helps him grow up in spite of his special needs. “My mum taught me that being different wasn’t just fine, it was great,” he says. That opinion helped him handle many challenges that he faced.
Being a disabled child affected not just how he saw himself, but how Shuter saw other peopled who didn’t quite fit in. He says, “It made me really aware of how I look at people: I make eye contact; I really listen. I try not to judge a book by its cover and to find beauty in the strangest places.”
That’s why he never tucks away his arm and speaks so openly about his experience. “I have got a huge scar down my arm and if somebody asks or looks at it weirdly (怪异地), I don’t feel bad for myself or bad for them,” he says. “It’s true in beauty too when you notice things on your face or your body that nobody else does. The more out in the open my arm is the fewer people notice it.” He said again, “If you have a spot on your face, you really don’t need to cover it up. Just own it! If you are losing your hair, own it! The amount of effort and time people spend trying to cover something up, even their own personalities, is ridiculous.”
That candor (坦率) has worked well in his professional life. The gossip columnist refers to himself on his website as Naughty But Nice Rob. He’s honest about the stars’ faults, but he tries to do it through a lot of humor and kindness, in the same way he treats himself.
31. Rob Shuter is probably interested in ________.

C. He thinks it has a deep effect on him. D. He thinks bad things mean good ones.
33. What does the underlined phrase “tucks away” mean?
A. Covers up. B. Notices. C. Shows up. D. Explains.
34. Which is absurd in the opinion of Rob Shuter?

At the age of 17 years 64 days, Mack Rutherford has become the youngest person to fly around the world alone! Mack’s journey around the world lasted five months and he flew across 52 countries in total. His record-breaking flight began in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, on 23 March, 2022. He was 16 years old when he took off and celebrated his 17th birthday by himself in his plane.
Mack faced many challenges during his adventure. Because of his small-sized aircraft, he had to land whenever the weather got too rough. However, at some points he literally couldn’t land, such as when flying non-stop for 10 hours over an ocean. At other points, he faced extremely hot weather, such as in Dubai. In Sudan, a country in Africa, Mack also faced sandstorms which made it hard for him to see where he was going. Mack battled strong winds and pouring rain during his flight, but he never stopped smiling, joking and updating his flowers on his social media account along the way, and managed to expertly pilot his plane to safety.
And if Mack’s surname “Rutherford” sounds familiar, it’s because his elder sister Zara also flew around the world earlier this year, and still holds the female version of the record! The Rutherford siblings (兄弟姐妹) were inspired by their parents to become pilots. “I have known for certain I wanted to fly since I was eleven,” Mack said, “My dad Sam is a professional ferry pilot, my mum Beatrice is a recreational (娱乐的) private pilot.”
Mack hopes to inspire young people to begin working towards their own goals, “No matter what background you have, I believe it is never too early to work towards your dreams and you shouldn’t limit yourself by others’ expectations.” With both feet firmly back on the ground now, it’s time for Mack to turn his attention towards catching up on his schoolwork!

Joshua williams was five years old when something came into his heart that would change his life and the lives of thousands of others. His journey began with a $20 birthday gift from his grandmother. She said he could use it any way he wanted.
On his way to the mall that morning, the five-year-old began thinking about all the things he could buy with the money. Then, looking out of the car window, Joshua noticed a homeless man standing on the street corner. That moment changed his life forever. Joshua instantly gave the man his $20 bill in the hope that it would make a small difference.
With this gesture, Joshua discovered his life’s calling to help the needy. At just five years old, Joshua knew he would need help in order to make his dream — to wipe out hunger — a reality. He enlisted his family, and soon they were delivering meals to the homeless every Saturday. Joshua began to realize, however, that he needed a “bigger, better and easier way to distribute food.” He and his family came up with the idea to have the homeless community come to a centralized distribution point. On their first distribution day, Joshua and his team of helpers provided more than 300 families with food. They continued distributing groceries this way every month for two years.
With the success of his work, Joshua eventually created the Joshua’s Heart Foundation to continue his mission of feeding the homeless. Now, several years later, his foundation continues to provide food and cooking classes for needy families.
Joshua and his team have helped feed over 20,000 people over the past eight years and they’re still working to increase that number. I’m an 18-year-old pre-medical student, tall and good-looking, with two short story books and quite a number of essays to my credit. Why am I singing such praises of myself? Just to explain that the attainment of self-pride comes from a great deal of self-love, and to attain it, one must first learn to accept oneself as one is. That was where my struggle began.
Born and raised in Africa,I had always taken my African origin as burden. My self-dislike was further fueled when my family had to relocate to Norway, where I attended a high school. Compared to all the white girls around me, with their golden hair and delicate lips, I ,a black girl, had curly hair and full, red lips. My nose often had a thin sheet of sweat on it, whatever the weather was. I just wanted to bury myself in my shell crying “I’m so different!”
What also contributed to my self-dislike was my occasional stuttering (口吃), which had weakened my self-confidence. It always stood between me and any fine opportunity. I’d taken it as an excuse to avoid any public speaking sessions, and unknowingly let it rule over me.
Fortunately, as I grew older, there came a turning point. One day a white girl caught my eye on the school bus when she suddenly turned back. To my astonishment, she had a thin sheet of sweat on her nose too, and it was in November! “Wow,” I whispered to myself, “this isn’t a genetic(遗传的) disorder after all. It’s perfectly normal.” Days later, my life took an-other twist(转折). Searching the internet for stuttering cures, I accidentally learned that such famous people as Isaac Newton and Winston Churchill also stuttered. I was greatly relieved and then an idea suddenly hit me—if I’m smart, I shouldn’t allow my stuttering to stand between me and my success.
Another boost to my self-confidence came days later as I was watching the news about Oprah Winfrey, the famous talk show host and writer—she’s black too! Whenever I think of her story and my former dislike of my color, I’m practically filled with shame.
Today, I’ve grown to accept what I am with pride; it simply gives me feeling of uniqueness. The idea of self-love has taken on a whole new meaning for me: there’s always something fantastic about us, and what we need to do is learn to appreciate it.

A. Great minds speak alike.
B. Stuttering is no barrier to success.

A. Pride comes before a fall.
B. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Godfrey Hounsfield’s early life did not suggest that he would accomplish much at all. He was not a particularly good student in the teachers’ eyes—he neither observed the school disciplines nor worked hard enough at school lessons. His teachers described him as “thick”.
He joined the army during the Second World War, but he wasn’t much of a soldier. However, he was a wizard with electrical machinery—he would use the newly invented radar to help pilots better find their way home on dark, cloudy nights.
After the war, Hounsfield followed his commander’s advice and got a degree in engineering He practiced his trade at EMI, a company with a focus on electronics and electrical engineering.
Hounsfield’s natural talent for engineering made him lead the team building the most advanced mainframe computer available in Britain. But by the 1960’s, EMI wanted out of the competitive computer market and the brilliant engineer wasn’t sure what to do in the future in the company. Therefore, the company gave Hounsfield a long holiday.
During the holiday, Hounsfield met a physician who complained about the poor quality of X-ray of the brain, which looked like fog. This got Hounsfield to make a move into the new field.
Hounsfield returned to EMI and talked about the idea with his boss. Then he used a new way to appoach the problem of imaging what was inside the skull. By working backward and using the fastest computers, he could work on the mystery of each brain layer. But there was a problem: EMI wasn’t involved in the medical market then. The company allowed Hounsfield to work on his product, but provided no funding.
Luckily his boss, Bill Ingham, saw the value of Hounsfield’s proposal and struggled to ask EMI to keep the project run. Finally, Hounsfield built a safe and effictive human scanner.
Hounsfield’s innovation transformed medicine. He shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1979 and was knighted by the queen in 1981. He continued his invention career until his final days in 2004, when he died at 84.

⑤Seek beauty
Focus on the small details of everyday life. Look for the beauty found in blooming wildflowers, the fluttering wings of a hummingbird, a bird building a nest, shifting clouds or a full moon.

“No one can promise that life will be fair,” but no matter what happens, follow the example set by Rehan Staton, and never lose sight of your goal.
Staton, a 24-year-old former sanitation (环卫) worker in Maryland, US, recently celebrated his acceptance into Harvard Law School.
Staton’s life was relatively normal until a series of setbacks impacted his family life and studies. “Things were pretty good until I was 8 years old. My mom abandoned my dad, my brother and me when she moved back to Sri Lanka.” he said.
When he was in seventh grade, a teacher even recommended that he be placed in special education classes. His brother Reggie then brainstormed ways to help boost his grades. An aerospace engineer also offered to tutor him free of charge. Staton’s grades did improve and he became an honor student.
However, he was rejected by every college he had applied for. So to help support himself and his family, Staton began working at a sanitation company. He spent his days transporting trash and cleaning dumpsters (垃圾箱), waking up every morning to get dressed around 4 am.
“The sanitation workers were the only people in my life who told me I could be somebody,” Staton said, “They would say, ‘You’re too young to be here. Go to college, and come back if it doesn’t work out’”.
The son of the company’s owner helped Staton contact a professor at Bowie State University, and the university eventually accepted Staton.
Things began to look up. Two years later, he transferred to the University of Maryland to continue pursuing his undergraduate degree. But Staton still struggled to pay for his father’s medical bills. He’d work in the morning and take classes in the afternoon.
After graduation, Staton worked at a national consulting firm while applying for law school. He plans to start at Harvard this fall, where he will major in sports law to pursue his dream of becoming a sports agent.
“For Rehan, the sky is truly the limit. Whatever he chooses to do in the future, he will definitely achieve,” said a chief operating officer of Staton’s firm.
For anyone looking for inspiration during difficult times, Staton recommends to “love yourself enough to get what you want out of life,” he told news outlet ABC. “You can always see the light in any dark situation, and you need to hold on to that light.”

When Jack Prelutsky was a kid in New York more than fifty years ago, he didn’t know he would grow up to write poetry for children.
Neither of his parents read poetry to him when he was little. When his fourth-grade teacher read poems in class, he thought they seemed boring. To nine-year-old Prelutsky, poetry seemed like serious business. And Prelutsky was anything but serious. “I wanted to hear poems about myself — about outer space and sports and music,” he says. “So I started to think of poetry as punishment.”
Prelutsky had always taken voice and piano lessons, but when he attended New York’s High School of Music and Art, his love for music grew deeper. “I liked the way songs said what they had to say — the simple, direct, ordinary language they employed. I really think that’s what made me see poetry in a new light.”
Then Prelutsky took a drawing class in his early twenties and found he wasn’t very good at life drawing. But he was good at drawing imaginary animals.
In six months, Prelutsky drew a lot of imaginary animals with strange characteristics. He loved each one, but felt something was missing. “Then one evening, I looked at them and said, ‘They need poems.’ I still don’t know why I thought of it, but within half an hour, I had all the poems written.”
Publishing the poems never crossed Prelutsky’s mind in those early days. But when friends fell in love with his poems, he agreed to share them with a children’s book editor.
“She didn’t think much of my illustrations (插图),” he says, “but she told me that I was a natural poet and encouraged me to keep writing.”
At the time, Prelutsky was surprised at the editor’s encouragement. But more than forty books later, he’s still making friends and fans laugh. From monsters to frogs, Prelutsky has turned silly into an art form.
41. What can we learn about Prelutsky when he was a kid?
A. He hated poetry. B. He took sports seriously.
C. He found it hard to read poems. D. He developed an interest in business.
42. What did Prelutsky think of music?
A. It was a kind of punishment. B. It was something serious.
C. It was simple but indirect. D. It helped him to love poetry.
43. How did drawing influence Prelutsky?
A. It drove him to love music. B. It brought out his poetic skills.
C. It raised his confidence in writing. D. It helped him become a famous painter.
44. How did the editor feel about Prelutsky’s poems?
A. She gave them high praise. B. She was surprised by them.
C. She refused to publish them. D. She showed no interest in them.
45. What is a characteristic of Prelutsky’s poems?
A. They are funny. B. They are encouraging.
C. They are person-centered. D. They are family-friendly.

Live with roommates? Have friends and family around you? Chances are that if you’re looking to live a more sustainable lifestyle, not everyone around you will be ready to jump on that bandwagon.
I experienced this when I started switching to a zero waste lifestyle five years ago, as I was living with my parents, and I continue to experience this with my husband, as he is not completely zero waste like me. I’ve learned a few things along the way though, which I hope you’ll find encouraging if you’re doing your best to figure out how you can make the change in a not-always-supportive household.
Zero waste was a radical lifestyle movement a few years back. I remember showing my parents a video of Bea Johnson, sharing how cool I thought it would be to buy groceries with jars, and have so little trash! A few days later, I came back with my first jars of zero waste groceries, and my dad commented on how silly it was for me to carry jars everywhere. It came off as a bit discouraging.
Yet as the months of reducing waste continued, I did what I could that was within my own reach. I had my own bedroom, so I worked on removing things I didn’t need. Since I had my own toiletries (洗漱用品), I was able to start personalising my routine to be more sustainable. I also offered to cook every so often, so I portioned out a bit of the cupboard for my own zero waste groceries. Perhaps your household won’t entirely make the switch, but you may have some control over your own personal spaces to make the changes you desire.
As you make your lifestyle changes, you may find yourself wanting to speak up for yourself if others comment on what you’re doing, which can turn itself into a whole household debate. If you have individuals who are not on board, your words probably won’t do much and can often leave you feeling more discouraged.
So here is my advice: Lead by action.
45. What do the underlined words “jump on that bandwagon” mean in the first paragraph?
A. Share an apartment with you. B. Join you in what you’re doing.
C. Transform your way of living. D. Help you to make the decision.
46. What was the attitude of the author’s father toward buying groceries with jars?
A. He disapproved of it. B. He was favorable to it.
C. He was tolerant of it. D. He didn’t care about it.
47. What can we infer about the author?
A. She is quite good at cooking. B. She respects others’ privacy.
C. She enjoys being a housewife. D. She is a determined person.
48. What is the text mainly about?
A. How to get on well with other family members.
B. How to have one’s own personal space at home.
C. How to live a zero waste lifestyle in a household.
D. How to control the budget when buying groceries.

【答案】41. A 42. B 43. C 44. D 45. A

Now ordinary people, like me, lying on their couches, working late in their living rooms, or isolating themselves at home during the pandemic can enjoy it, too.(我可以点我想吃的东西。
根据倒数第二段中“However, I was shocked when I knew that five delivery riders were killed in three months last spring. Some riders sometimes were paid at rates lower than the minimum wage or without much of the basic protection enjoyed by the rest of us. They were also doing their jobs in an unsafe working environment — our city streets.(然而,去年春天,当我知道3个月内有5名快递员死亡时,我感到震惊。有些骑手的工资有时比最低工资还低,或者没有我们其他人所享有的基本保障。他们也在一个不安全的工作环境中工作——我们的城市街道)”以及最后一段中“So I deleted the app and haven’t used it, or any of its competitors, since then.(所以我删除了这款应用,从那以后再也没用过它,也没用过它的任何竞争对手)”可知,作者删除Uber Eats的主要原因是送货员的安全问题。故选C项。
【44题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“I have no illusions that my standpoint will make a big difference. But I think our governments need to fight against the companies reshaping our lives and our communities for the worse to make our cities safer for everyone, including cyclists.(我不幻想我的立场会产生重大影响。但我认为,我们的政府需要与那些让我们的生活和社区变得更糟的公司作斗争,让我们的城市对每个人都更安全,包括骑自行车的人)”可知,作者写最后一段的目的是呼吁政府做出一些改变。故选D项。
【45题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“Just like other young people, when I’m hungry and busy, I will order food through a food delivery app, especially during the pandemic. These apps are fast and convenient.(就像其他年轻人一样,当我又饿又忙的时候,我会通过外卖app订餐,尤其是在疫情期间。这些应用程序又快又方便)”可知,作者本来和其他年轻人一样,也喜欢用外卖APP,再根据第三段“However, I deleted Uber Eats from my phone two months ago.(然而,两个月前,我从手机上删除了优步外卖)”以及最后一段“So I deleted the app and haven’t used it, or any of its competitors, since then.(所以我删除了这款应用,从那以后再也没用过它,也没用过它的任何竞争对手)”可知,本文之后是在讲作者为什么删除外卖APP,所以A项“Why I gave up using food delivery apps(为什么我放弃了用外卖软件)”是本文最好的标题。故选A项。

【答案】41. A 42. B 43. C 44. A 45. B

A. Covers up. B. Notices. C. Shows up. D. Explains.

41. What can we know about Mack’s flight?

Each bag of groceries represents a brighter day in the lives of these individuals and families, and it all began with one young person who saw a need and decided to make a difference.

1.(23-24高二下.天津重点校联考.期中)

推理判断题。由文章第二段“Neither of his parents read poetry to him when he was little. When his fourth-grade teacher read poems in class, he thought they seemed boring. To nine-year-old Prelutsky, poetry seemed like serious business. And Prelutsky was anything but serious. “I wanted to hear poems about myself — about outer space and sports and music,” he says. “So I started to think of poetry as punishment.”(在他小的时候,他父母都没有给他读过诗。当他四年级的老师在课堂上朗读诗歌时,他觉得诗歌很无聊。对9岁的Prelutsky来说,诗歌似乎是一件严肃的事情。Prelutsky一点也不严肃。“我想听到关于我自己的诗歌——关于外太空、体育和音乐,”他说。“所以我开始认为诗歌是一种惩罚。”)”可知,Prelutsky小时候讨厌诗歌。故选A。
