Nowadays, more and more schools in China make rules making students wear school uniforms to school. Parents and teachers think it will make a better learning environment at school, but some students don’t like their school uniforms. So, what are school uniforms like in other parts of the world?
In Japan, boys in middle school wear uniforms called “gakuran” which have dark jackets with stand-up collars and pants. Girls, on the other hand, wear uniforms called “sailor fuku”, which look like European naval (海军) uniforms.
Most schools in England require students to wear school uniforms. Boys need to wear long grey or black pants, white shirts and school ties. Girls have the same clothes as boys, but they can wear skirts or summer school dresses during the summer term.
In the UK, uniforms were the custom throughout most of the 20th Century, but now more and more public schools stop requiring students to wear uniforms. They think uniforms make students lose their personalities (个性).
For children in many African countries, school uniforms can be a kind of pride, or a huge financial burden (经济负担). Many children have only one uniform, and that may be all the clothes they have.
In a word, love it or hate it, school uniform is a part of growing up for children around the world so you’d better enjoy your school uniform and your school life.
根据短文内容,判断下列句子正(T)误(F)。
21. The author introduces school uniforms of different countries to prove it is a part of growing up for children.
22. In Japan, teenagers all wear uniforms which liik like European naval uniforms.
23. Neither Chinese students nor students in other countries like their school uniforms.

Bags of Love
Last year, I worked in a middle school near my mother’s house, and I stayed with her for a month. During that time, I helped her do some housework and buy some food.
After the first week, I noticed that the food was eaten up very quickly. Then I began keeping an eye on my mum. To my surprise, I found that she would put some of the food into a paper bag and go out with it at about nine every morning. And finally, I decided to follow her. I saw her taking the food to the street children. She would also spend a lot of time talking and playing with them.
One day, I talked to a neighbour and found out that my mum was well-known in the area. The children were very friendly with her and even thought of her as their own mother. Then it hit me—why wouldn’t she want to tell me about it? Was she worried that I would stop buying food if I found out?
When my mum got home, I gave her a big hug(拥抱). I told her she didn’t need to keep it a secret from me. And she told me something about the children. Some of them lived with an old lady in a small house. Others slept on the street. For years, she was helping the poor street children by giving them food. After she told me everything, I was so moved by how selfless(无私的) she was. She helped others in need. As her son, I was so proud of my mum.
I continued to buy food for my mum after that. But I always added one more bag for her other children.

A young woman turns around and around quickly, and jumps high. In the background, a young girl reads a rejection (拒绝) letter from a ballet school. “You have the wrong body for ballet,” it says, “and at thirteen, you are too old.” This was one of the most popular advertisements (广告) of 2014 and it describes American Ballet Theatre’s principal (主要的) dancer Misty Copeland.
This was not a real letter. But Copeland says it is very similar to letters from her childhood. While many dancers start at the age of three, Copeland only began to study ballet in 1995 as a thirteen-year-old. People often told her that she was too old, or that she didn’t have the perfect Body type (She is only 157cm tall) . Her family moved a lot, and it was sometimes difficult for her to attend ballet classes. But Copeland loved dancing and did not want to give up. She stayed with her ballet teacher during the week and spent time with her family only at the weekend. This was a difficult life, but she worked hard and won her first national competition when she was fourteen years old. Copeland joined the American Ballet Theatre in 2000 and performed in many ballets over the next few years. In 2007, she became a solo (单独的) performer, and in 2015 she became its principal dancer.
Copeland is now a dancer, author and Broadway performer. She also starred in the 2015 film A Ballerina s Tale. So what’s next? According to Copeland, anything is possible :“My career (职业) really is just now beginning.”
30. How old was Copeland when she became the principal dancer?
A. 13. B. 14. C. 25. D. 33.
31. Why was it difficult for Copeland to attend ballet classes?
A. Because her family moved a lot. B. Because she was not a good dancer.
C. Because she had no invitation letter. D. Because she had the wrong body type.
32. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Copeland became successful because of the advertisement.
B. Copeland had to spend a lot of time away from her parents.
C. Copeland won her first national competition as a solo performer.
D. Copeland has ended up her career as an actress on Broadway.

Indonesia is my mother’s homeland and one of my favorite countries. Since I was young, I have learned a lot about the country and become interested in it. For a long time I had wanted to do something for the country and people there, and I thought volunteering would be a good and fun way to do so.
I received the greatest pleasure from being with the children. Teaching my first English class in Aceh was exciting but I was rather nervous. As time passed by, I learned how to be a better teacher. Teaching was actually the most enjoyable of my many responsibilities (责任).
Many children were shy at first. But when they relaxed, they would start talking and telling you a lot of funny things. I believed we were helping them build up their confidence.
For the children who are more in need, The Education Program (TEP) will collect donations (募捐) to help them.
As a volunteer, I had to visit the TEP children at home once a month and help them write a thank-you letter to their sponsors. This was a way for the children to communicate with their sponsors. Sometimes the sponsors would write back to the children. Seeing the children’s happy faces, I had a great sense of pleasure.
33. The writer believed volunteering would be a good way to ________.
A. play outdoors B. get the greatest pleasure
C. learn more about Indonesia D. do something for Indonesia
34. The writer visited the TEP children ________.
A. to help them write a thank-you letter B. to play with them
C. to help them with their study D. to help them build up their confidence
35. According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE?
A. When I was young, I wanted to be a teacher.
B. I learned how to be a better teacher at first.
C. I learned a lot from my experience as a volunteer.
D. The children in the poor area were brave and easy to talk to.

The first Memorial Day was started on May 30th ,1868, by General Logan. He tried to unite (统一) the country after the American Civil War fought between the Northern and Southern States.
By 1890, all the Northern States had joined in to celebrate this important day. However, the states in the South refused and instead they chose other days to honor (纪念) their fallen heroes. After World War I ended, the purpose of the holiday was changed from honoring just the fallen soldiers from the Civil War to honoring all Americans that had given their lives for their country.
Although Memorial Day was understood throughout the country, it was not until 1971 that it was publicly fixed to be a national holiday. In order to make sure that Americans could enjoy a three-day weekend, the government moved the date from May 30th, to the last Monday of May.
Though allowing another holiday was a great idea, it has made the day become less important. Kids think of it as die day that marks the “beginning of summer” or the “first day when swimming pools open”, while adults think it as a time to have dinner parties or go shopping.
To make people know the importance of the day, in December 2000, the US Congress passed and the President signed into law, The National Moment Remembrance Act. The law requires (要求) all Americans to keep a minute of silence at 3:00 p.m. to honor the heroes that have given their lives for the safety and freedom of the country.

A. 13. B. 14. C. 25. D. 33.

Ⅶ.任务型阅读(共5小题,计10分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容完成下列各题。

【答案】Learn to Smile
I remember a song by Westlife, the first sentence of it is “Just a smile and the rain is gone.” Do you like smiling? I think you should learn to smile.
First, learn to smile at yourself when something unpleasant happens in your life. If you fail an exam or you are misunderstood by your friends, don’t be sad. Just smile at yourself. Smiling at yourself brings back your confidence. Sometimes the one who beats you is not others, but yourself. And smile can also keep you healthy.
Second, learn to smile at others. It will make you communicate better with people. Smiling at others makes yourself happy as well.
In a word, smile is a kind of language belonging to everyone. It passes love and friendship and helps shorten the distance between you and other people. Living with a smile, every day will be shiny.
