B It is halfway through October. The sun arrives early and I stare out my window, feeling shame for invading the privacy of the homeless woman who has settled across the street. I am not sure when she first appeared, maybe a month ago. Each morning I watch as she gets out from the narrow space between the two large buildings across from mine. She wears the same dirty, badly torn dress every day. I can see she fights to pull herself up into a standing position. She fails on the first two or three tries, but determination always wins out. She remains leaning against the wall for several long minutes, appearing to gather the necessary strength needed to pick up her possessions — all packed into five plastic bags. With tears in my eyes, I watch as she places her feet pointing outward to avoid falling. Her steps are measured and cautious as she slowly makes her way to the corner and disappears. When I first noticed this woman, I went across the street and offered her 20 dollars, but she turned her back to me and pretended not to see me. The expression on her face was one of shame, causing me to feel guilty for invading her privacy. The next night I bought a hotdog and a Coke, and left them in the spot when she was not there. Feeling like a spy, I watched as she ate the hotdog like a starving cat that had not eaten for days. I too often find myself complaining about life but when I look out my window and see the old woman, I feel the need to apologize for my foolish pride in not realizing how fortunate I really am. There are many poor people in my town. I have become familiar with many of their faces, and then suddenly they disappear. I know that one day the old woman will be gone and I will have no idea where she is. I fear that day. 4. What is the main idea of paragraph 2? A. Life is tough for the homeless woman. B. Poverty causes the woman’s poor health. C. The woman doesn’t care about her appearance. D. Possessions mean much to the woman. 5. Why did the woman refuse the author’s 20 dollars? A. The money didn’t help much. B. She didn’t like the author. C. Accepting money was guilty. D. She felt her dignity was hurt. 6. What lesson does the author learn from the homeless woman? A. Complaints can sometimes make life worse. B. He should appreciate his present life more. C. More is to be done to make life meaningful. D. We should all apologize for ignoring the poor. 7. Which of the following words best describes the author of the text? A. Optimistic. B. Sympathetic. C. Determined. D. Easy-going. C Media literacy (素养) is finally getting some late-arriving attention. Whether it’s the increasing awareness of political disinformation or the threat of AI, discussions about media literacy are on the rise. The adoption of media literacy in the classroom, however, stagnates. The driving force for providing kids with media literacy skills often gets lost in the moral panic over technology and kids. Fear has overrun reason, and people can’t decide whether to blame social media, mobile devices, tech companies, or the Internet. They are concerned with claims that technology and social media are the causes of teenage mental health issues despite the weak associations. In response, too many solutions are “ostrich policies (鸵鸟政策)” that want to ban devices and shut down social media but don’t address more fundamental issues. Policies that set age limits on social media access and restrict devices during school to minimize disturbance can be helpful but are incomplete solutions. Social media didn’t invent bullies (霸凌) or the enormous effect of peer pressure. Social media platforms may be a new battleground, but they are not the source. Unfortunately, many current policies ignore the need to teach kids how to manage these challenges. There is frighteningly little attention paid to preparing kids to make good decisions when they will, unavoidably, get online. On the bright side, the rapid development of AI and increasing attention to the amount of misinformation online have helped normalize the acceptance of media literacy as a core skill. While suggestions to limit inappropriate device use, increase face-to-face socialization, and engage in outdoor play are beneficial, they do not build the core skills that will keep kids safe offline and are fundamental to well-being and life success: good citizenship, self-awareness and self-control. Those things take teaching, whether you are online or outside. Media literacy is an essential life skill that, once learned, can be applied to any content. While waiting for public education to catch up, parents and educators can build media literacy skills at home with numerous resources, ranging from family technology contracts and discussion guides to easy activities that can be done at home with kids. 8. What does the underlined word “stagnates” in the first paragraph probably mean? A. Advances significantly. B. Collapses abruptly. C. Underperforms substantially. D. Initiates officially. 9. What factors contribute to people’s moral panic over technology and kids? A. Widespread use of technology and social media. B. Inability to provide kids with media literacy skills effectively. C. Concern about the lack of parental control over tech devices. D. Fear of the impact of technology on teenage mental health. 10. What does paragraph 3 of the text focus on? A. The importance of banning social media. B. The shortcomings of existing policies. C. The limitations of social media platforms. D. The necessity of managing online challenges. 11. Which of the following belongs to media literacy? A. Minimizing social media usage. B. Evaluating media content critically. C. Increasing in-person interactions. D. Recognizing the risks of social media. D While sending gifts, we naturally make choices based on the receiver. But what if we have been wrong all along and that we could turn things around, which not only made gift buying easier, but the receiver happier? In 2015, a psychologist Lauren Human did an online survey which suggested that when buying gifts, people preferred to choose something based on the receiver’s personality and tastes. Most people also said they preferred receiving gifts bought with them in mind: gifts for them. But Human wondered if this method of giving failed to take advantage of the way we connect as people. So he sent 78 volunteers into a shopping centre before Mother’s Day. Half were told to buy a card that “shows your knowledge of the receiver” while the others bought a card that “shows your true self”. After shopping, the givers who had thought partly of themselves reported feeling closer to their mothers. To study how the method is received by receivers, he did another test, asking 100 students to choose a song to a friend, partner or family member. Each half of the group followed the same instructions as the card buyers. Results suggested that the receivers of songs which showed something of the givers felt closer to them than those who received gifts bought only with them in mind. Human suggests it might apply to all gifts. “If building stronger social connections is the goal” of a gift and surely it should be — then we “may well be advised to offer gifts showing ourselves more”. In short, for a present to be meaningful, you need to give away a bit of yourself, even if there is a risk that the gift might not so closely satisfy the receiver’s practical needs or tastes as one gift gained simply with that in mind. Moreover, giving something of oneself can be a safer act because it decreases the risk of showing poor knowledge of a receiver by trying to buy something that fits their character — and failing. 12. What’s the usual consideration of gift giving? A. The cost and luxury of the gift. B. the recipient’s character and preferences. C. Practicality and usefulness of the gift. D. The giver’s individuality. 13. What can we learn from the Mother’s Day card test? A. Most people choose gifts with the receiver in mind. B. Most people choose gifts based on their personal tastes. C. Gifts chosen with the giver in mind work well on the giver. D. Gifts chosen with the receiver in mind work well on the receiver. 14. What matters most in gift giving according to the text? A. Making the giver’s life happier. B. Meeting the receiver’s practical needs. C. Showing one’s knowledge of the receiver. D. Building and strengthening social connections. 15. Which of the following is Human’s advice to givers on gift giving? A. Choose gifts that express more of yourself. B. Be careful not to signal your true personality. C. Just focus on your own tastes when choosing gifts. D. Buy something that fits the receiver’s character most. In modern society, many retired people are lonely and lack life purpose while many young people have their own problems. ___16___ Or they may wish to live independently but be unable to pay the high rents in their area. ___17___ It involves bringing older and younger people together to support each other. The clock survived several years packed away in the attic (阁楼) of my grandparents’ house. Gradually, life got better. Slowly. Mom had taken the clock out of the box once after she and Dad had bought their first home. She had dusted it off, placed it on top of a bookcase in the new living room, and wound it. The clock would not tick (滴答响). It would not chime(报时). “Maybe,” she said with tears in her eyes, “it's been too long.” She placed it back in the box,and stored it in her attic. There, in the attic, the clock sat. Not ticking. Not chiming. For years. In those years I had finished high school, then college. I had gotten married. I was blessed with the two most beautiful children, almost 2 and 4. I had bought a house with a fireplace and a mantle(壁炉架). Mom came over to our new house with a box. “I had the clock fixed. Oh, you’ll love it!” she said to my wife. “It had the most beautiful chime.” Mom took the clock out of the box and placed it on our mantle. She wound the clock. The chime of my childhood was back. And the chime really was beautiful. There, on the mantle, the clock sat. Ticking. Chiming. For months. Then, one day, the clock stopped ticking and chiming. With tears in her eyes, Mom wanted to store the clock in the box. “No,” I said, “We’ ll leave it sit right there. That clock is too beautiful to live in a box.” I offered up a lame joke:“And, anyway, at least it will be right twice a day.” There, on the mantle, the clock sat. Not ticking. Not chiming. For more than a year. Now it was late. Very late. It was Christmas time. I continued to be busy helping Saff to the parent Christmas gifts. Then, something strange happened. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On Christmas morning my wife noticed it first. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2025届高三年级第一次模拟考试 英 语 第一部分 听力 (共两节,满分 30 分) 做题时,先将管案标在试卷上,录音内容结束后,你将有两分钟的时间将试卷上的答案转涂到答题卡上。 1. I too often find myself complaining about life, but when I look out my window and see the old woman, I feel the need to apologize for my foolish pride in not realizing how fortunate I really am. C. Determined. D. Easy-going. A 5. D 6. B 7. 根据第二段“She wears the same dirty, badly torn dress every day. Her steps are measured and cautious as she slowly makes her way to the corner and disappears.(她每天都穿着同一件又脏又破的衣服。我能看到她挣扎着站起来。前两三次她都失败了,但决心最终战胜了一切。她靠在墙上好几分钟,似乎在积蓄捡起她所有财物——都装在五个塑料袋里——所需的力气。我含着泪看着她把脚向外撇以避免摔倒。她迈着缓慢而谨慎的步伐,慢慢走到街角,然后消失了)”可知,这段描述了老妇人每天起床、起身、拿东西、走路等一系列艰难的动作,体现出她生活的艰难。故选A项。 根据第三段中“When I first noticed this woman, I went across the street and offered her 20 dollars, but she turned her back to me and pretended not to see me. The expression on her face was one of shame, causing me to feel guilty for invading her privacy.(当我第一次注意到这个女人时,我穿过街道给了她20美元,但她背对着我,假装没看见我。她脸上的表情充满了羞愧,这让我为侵犯了她的隐私而感到内疚)”可知,老妇人假装没有看到作者递过去的钱,且脸上充满了羞愧。由此推知,她觉得接受金钱的帮助让自己的尊严受到了伤害。故选D项。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“I too often find myself complaining about life, but when I look out my window and see the old woman, I feel the need to apologize for my foolish pride in not realizing how fortunate I really am.(我经常发现自己在抱怨生活,但当我望向窗外看到那位老妇人时,我觉得有必要为自己愚蠢的骄傲而道歉,因为我没有意识到自己实际上是多么幸运)”可知,作者通过与老人对比发现自己实际上是多么幸运。 根据文中作者给老妇人钱、买食物,看到老妇人艰难生活还流泪等行为,如第二段中“With tears in my eyes, I watch as she places her feet pointing outward to avoid falling.(我含着泪看着她把脚向外撇以避免摔倒)”、第三段中“When I first noticed this woman, I went across the street and offered her 20 dollars(当我第一次注意到这个女人时,我穿过街道给了她20美元)”和“The next night I bought a hotdog and a Coke, and left them in the spot when she was not there.(第二天晚上,我买了一个热狗和一杯可乐,趁她不在的时候放在了那个地方。)” C Media literacy (素养) is finally getting some late-arriving attention. C 9. D 10. B 11. 根据文章第一段“Media literacy (素养) is finally getting some late-arriving attention. Whether it’s the increasing awareness of political disinformation or the threat of AI, discussions about media literacy are on the rise. The adoption of media literacy in the classroom, however, stagnates.(媒介素养终于在姗姗来迟后得到了一些关注。 根据文章第二段“The driving force for providing kids with media literacy skills often gets lost in the moral panic over technology and kids. Fear has overrun reason, and people can’t decide whether to blame social media, mobile devices, tech companies, or the Internet. They are concerned with claims that technology and social media are the causes of teenage mental health issues despite the weak associations.(为孩子们提供媒介素养技能的驱动力,常常在对科技和孩子的道德恐慌中消失殆尽。 根据文章第三段“Policies that set age limits on social media access and restrict devices during school to minimize disturbance can be helpful but are incomplete solutions. Social media didn’t invent bullies (霸凌) or the enormous effect of peer pressure. Social media platforms may be a new battleground, but they are not the source. Unfortunately, many current policies ignore the need to teach kids how to manage these challenges. There is frighteningly little attention paid to preparing kids to make good decisions when they will, unavoidably, get online.(制定政策,对社交媒体的使用设定年龄限制,以及在学校限制使用设备以尽量减少干扰,这些措施可能会有帮助,但并不足以解决问题。 根据文章第四段“While suggestions to limit inappropriate device use, increase face-to-face socialization, and engage in outdoor play are beneficial, they do not build the core skills that will keep kids safe offline and are fundamental to well-being and life success: good citizenship, self-awareness and self-control.(虽然限制不当使用设备、增加面对面社交以及参与户外活动的建议是有益的,但它们并不能培养出那些能让孩子们在现实生活中也保持安全的核心技能,而这些核心技能对于孩子们的幸福和人生成功至关重要,比如良好的公民素养、自我认知和自我控制能力)”可知,媒介素养是指人们面对各种媒介信息时,所具备的选择、理解、质疑、评估、创造和生产等能力,以及使用媒介信息为个人生活、社会发展所用的能力。 B。 D While sending gifts, we naturally make choices based on the receiver. 12. B 13. C 14. D 15. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Then, something strange happened. The clock began to chime — on the hour. I stopped. Finally realizing I was hearing my own small Christmas miracle early, I stopped preparing the gifts. I sat on my couch and I listened. I listened to the seconds and minutes tick by. I listened to my Christmas miracle ticking away. Afraid that the magic of Christmas morning would die, I reluctantly went to bed striving to hear the ticking. The next morning, there, on the mantle, the clock sat. Ticking. Chiming. On Christmas morning, my wife noticed it first. “What? How? Did you have it fixed? What did you do?” I smiled with tears in my eyes and told her I tried to fix it not long ago but failed. It was really a miracle that it worked again at Christmas! My children noticed the ticking and chiming and told me all about how Santa must have come and fixed the clock as he came down the chimney. Later that day, my parents came over for Christmas dinner and marveled at the miracle. The Christmas miracle was trying to tell me to cherish every moment and to tell me that it is never too late for hope. 词汇激活 行为类 ①意识到:realize/be aware of ②修理:fix/mend ③珍惜:cherish/treasure 情绪类 ①不情愿地:reluctantly/unwillingly ②害怕的:afraid/frightened 【点睛】[高分句型1] Finally realizing I was hearing my own small Christmas miracle early, I stopped preparing the gifts.(运用了现在分词作状语和省略that的宾语从句) [高分句型2] My children noticed the ticking and chiming and told me all about how Santa must have come and fixed the clock as he came down the chimney.(运用了how引导的宾语从句和as引导的时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
