B English playwright Arthur Wing Pinero said, “Where there\s tea, there's hope.” Similarly, a Chinese saying goes that “Firewood, rice, cooking oil, salt, sauce, vinegar and tea are the seven necessities to begin a day.” Tea is, without doubt, welcomed all over the world. According to Statista, a German online portal for statistics; global tea production reached approximately 5.8 million tons in 2018. It has become the most consumed beverage in the world — after water, of course. In order to celebrate the popular drink, the United Nations General Assembly has designated May 21 as International Tea Day. According to the UN, tea is much more than just a hot drink. It's a big part of many cultures around the world. You probably know that people in China use top-grade tea to show respect when receiving important guests. Meanwhile, the British tradition of afternoon tea is an important part of that country's identity. Making Malaysia's pulled tea has become a sort of art form, where drinkers take pride in its entertainment aspects. As an expression of Moroccan hospitality and tradition, mint tea — a mix of green tea, spearmint leaves and sugar — is served during gatherings and negotiations. Apart from its cultural significance, tea is also a medicine, used from ancient times to modern day. “Tea is cold and lowers the fire,” Chinese Ming Dynasty herbalist Li Shizhen once said. The health benefits of tea are still being discovered today: preventing heart disease, obesity and cancer have all been linked to drinking green tea, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information in the US. The mania for healthy tea products continues into a new decade as it's used in moisturizers, lip balms and other beauty products. Hot or cold, bagged or loose-leaf, tea is more than a drink — it's a social custom and also a magic medicine, a link to the past and a way of life. 4. Why did the author mention the two quotations in the first paragraph? A. For they are famous. B. To show the significance of tea. C. For enriching the readers’ knowledge. D. To show tea has a long history. 5. According to the passage, people consume most in the world. A. tea B. coffee C. water D. wine 6. What does the underlined word “moisturizers” mean in the fifth paragraph? A. medicine. B. drinks. C. art form. D. cream. 7. What is the main idea of the whole passage? A. Tea has a long history in China. B. Tea has many health benefits. C. Tea is a big part of many cultures around the world. D. May 21 is celebrated as International Tea Day. C From Mozart to Metallica, tons of people enjoy listening to various types of music while they paint, write, or draw. Most believe that music helps increase creativity, but an international study conducted by English and Swedish researchers is challenging that view. The study results were echoed by scientists from Lancaster University, and the University of Gavle, saying their findings show music actually weakens creativity. To reach their conclusions (结论), researchers had volunteers complete verbal (口头的) problems designed to inspire creativity while sitting in a quiet room, and then again while music played in the background. They found that background music significantly weakened the volunteers’ ability to complete tasks connected with verbal creativity. The team also tested background noises like those commonly heard in a library, but found that such noises had no influence on subjects’ creativity. The tasks were simple word games. For example, volunteers were given three words, such as dress, rise, and flower. Then, they were asked to find a single word connected with all three that could be combined (结合) to form a common phrase or word. The single word, in this case, would be “sun” (sundress, sunrise, sunflower). Volunteers completed the tasks in either a quiet room, or while listening to two different types of music: rock music or light music “We found strong evidence of weakened performance when playing background music in comparison to quiet background conditions,” says co-author D. Neil McLatchie of Lancaster University. He and his colleagues find that music negatively influences the verbal working memory processes of the brain, preventing creativity. Also, as far as the library background noises having seemingly (似乎) no effect, the study’s authors believe that was the case because library noises create a “regular state” environment that doesn’t affect concentration. “To conclude, the findings here challenge the popular view that music increases creativity, and instead show that music, whatever type it is, is always a disadvantage for creative performance in problem solving,” the study reads. 8. What does the underlined word “echoed” in Paragraph 1 mean? A. Challenged B. Accepted C. Doubted D. Heard 9. What were the volunteers asked to do in the study? A. To play music. B. To combine given words. C. To create new words. D. To connect words with music. 10. What can we infer from the study? A. Quiet background inspires creativity best. B. Library noise does no harm to creativity. C. Music has a bad effect on language ability. D. Music types matter in creative performance. 11. Which is the main idea of the passage? A. Quiet Environments Prevent Concentration. B. Background Noise Affects Concentration. C. Composing Music Weakens Creativity. D. Listening to Music Reduces Creativity. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Be a Good Tourist Tourism can be both good and bad. 4. 【答案】8. B 9. C 10. B 11. The only way to solve the problem of the terrible tourist is to make sure that you are not one!(来自游客的问题数不胜数。解决这个问题的唯一方法就是确保你不是一个可怕的游客!)”所以下文应该是提出建议,A项“Be the best, kindest, most polite tourist possible.(尽可能做最好、最善良、最有礼貌的游客)”是对前文的总结。故选A项。 第三部分 语言运用(共七节,满分75分) 第一节 完形填空(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Mark was a typical high school student.
