第一都分 阅读(共两节,满分 50分)
第一节(共15小题:每小题2.5分,溝分 37.5分)
闵读下列短文,从每题所给的 A、B.C 和D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
These days having a best friend seems so important to girls. However I have learned that having one best friend is not the way to go. It’s so much better to have many great friends.
As I was coming into Middle School, I was really excited because my friend Jennifer was going to be in the same Middle School! At first things were great, she introduced me to her friend Amy and we had lots of fun together. Then things started to change. Jennifer was very controlling: I couldn’t make new friends, and pretty soon being Jennifer’s friend was a struggle.
Jennifer wanted to be the “leader” of our little group. Amy and I were never partners with each other in class projects or gym; it was always, “Who gets the privilege (特权)of being Jennifer’s partner.” Amy and I both wanted to be Jennifer’s number one.
I always waited for Jennifer and Amy after classes. They chatted by Jennifer’s desk as Jennifer packed her books up and I waited by the door. Sometimes when they left, they’d walk right past me. No “Thanks for waiting.” No “Sorry we took so long.” It was as if they couldn’t even see me.
After months of living through school this way, I had really changed. I was moody, depressed, lonely. I spent lots of days trying not to cry, I felt so left out.
Finally, near the very end of the school year, I was so incredibly sick of having to battle for friendship. I stopped sitting with Jennifer at lunch and stopped waiting for her after class.
It was tough at first, but now, I have tons of friends. We have fun and happy times together and I love them all to bits. It amazes me how easy our friendship is. There’s no struggling to be on top. I wish Jennifer could understand. Maybe one day she’ll look back at what happened and she'll change, but even though I lost a friend, I am a happier person.
1. What is the purpose of the writer writing this passage?
A. To describe her school life
B. To talk about the way Jennifer treated her friends
C. To advise girls to make many friends instead of one
D. To show her regret towards losing a friend.
2. What does the sentence Things started to change(paragraph 2) refer to?
A. The writer lost interest in study.
B. Being Jennifer’s friend became a struggle.
C. Lessons became more and more difficult.
D. The writer gave up the friendship with Jennifer.
3. What can be implied from the last paragraph?
A. All of the writer’s new friends are equal.
B. The writer regretted a lot about losing a friend.
C. Jennifer has changed herself.
D. The school life is always difficult for the writer.
【答案】1. C 2. B 3. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,作者通过讲述与Jennifer之间的故事告诉我们不应该只有一个最好的朋友,而应该有很多好朋友。
【1题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段“These days having a best friend seems so important to girls. However I have learned that having one best friend is not the way to go. It's so much better to have many great friends.( 如今,拥有一个最好的朋友对女孩子来说似乎很重要。然而,我明白了只有一个最好的朋友是行不通的。有很多好朋友真好。)”可知,作者认为我们不应该只有一个最好的朋友,而应该有很多好朋友。文章中列举了自己与Jennifer之间的故事来证明这一说法。故选C。
【2题详解】
词句理解题。根据划线句后两句“Jennifer was very controlling: I couldn’t make new friends, and pretty soon being Jennifer’s friend was a struggle.(詹妮弗控制欲很强:我交不到新朋友,很快成为詹妮弗的朋友就变得很困难)”可知Jennifer控制欲很强,导致我无法交新朋友。最终和她做朋友变得很困难。由此可知,划线部分指的是“做Jennifer的朋友变成了一件难事”。故选B。
【3题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段前两句“It was tough at first, but now, I have tons of friends. We have fun and happy times together and I love them all to bits.(一开始很艰难,但现在,我有很多朋友了。我们在一起有快乐的时光,我非常喜欢。)”可知,后来作者有很多朋友,而且作者对他们的喜爱是同样的。由此推知,作者对所有的朋友都是平等的。故选A。

Scientists have recently discovered that animals that live in groups such as elephants, foxes, and wolves, are more likely to follow rules. If they don’t, and each does its own thing, the group will probably break apart. Group members would be forced to live alone, and would have a harder time hunting and raising their young. That’s probably why a traveling wolf pack was seen stopping and waiting for its limping leader to catch up. Similar social ties are believed to be responsible for an elephant saving her friend from drowning.
Sometimes, though, animals try their best to do what’s right, even when there’s nothing in it for them. Nobody knows exactly why. “It might simply feel good to be kind, just as it does for humans.” says Bekoff. If your friend wasn’t nice to you, what would you do? Maybe you would just walk away. That’s exactly what a wild red fox did when she was playing boxing with another fox.
Toby was a generous cat. For ten years, the kind kitty shared his food with a spaniel named Katie. After supper, owner Linda Gustafson always divided the food. She’d drop some in Katie’s bowl on the floor and some in Toby’s dish on the kitchen counter. Gustafson kept the cat’s dish up high to keep Katie from stealing Toby’s treats. As it turned out, Katie didn’t need to steal; she only had to beg. Every night, the spaniel ate her food in a few seconds. Then she’d sit and stare at the cat and every night, Toby would be nice. Using his paw, he’d get several pieces of tasty food down to the waiting dog. Apparently, Katie appreciated it, because whenever she was curled up in her beanbag bed and the cat walked over, she would give up her nice, warm spot. “Toby would then lie down in the center of the beanbag.” says Gustafson, “and Katie would lie on the floor.”
4. The reason why some animals prefer to live in groups lies in that ________.
A they have to follow natural rules B. they are afraid of staying alone
C. they cannot find food by themselves D. living alone would make their lives harder
5. According to Bekoff, animals try their best to do what’s right because ________.
A. it feels good to be kind B. animals are friendly by nature
C they have learned to do so for a long time D. they want their owners to like them
6. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that _________.
A. Linda always lets the animals eat together B. Katie sometimes gets her food by stealing
C. Toby is generous but Katie isn’t D. Katie and Toby help each other
7. The passage mainly tells us that ________.
A. we should protect animals and live with them peacefully
B. animals, like humans, can be connected by friendly social ties.
C. rules only exist in human societies and not in animal societies
D. animals will make the world more beautiful and peaceful
【答案】4. D 5. A 6. D 7. B

Every year more people recognize that it is wrong to kill wildlife for “sport”. Progress in this direction is slow because shooting is not a sport for watching, and only those few who take part in it realize the cruelty and destruction.
The number of gunners, however, grows rapidly. Children too. young. to develop proper. judgments through independent thought are led a long way away by their gunning parents. They are subjected to advertisements of gun producers who describe shooting as good for their health and gun carrying as a way of putting redder blood in the veins (静脉). They are persuaded by gunner magazines with stories honoring the chase and the kill. In school they view motion pictures which are supposedly meant to teach them how to deal with arms safely but which are actually designed to own a gun.
Wildlife is disappearing because of shooting and the loss of wild land habitat. Habitat loss will continue with our increasing population, but can we slow the loss of wildlife caused by shooting? There doesn't seem to be any chance if the serious condition of our birds is not improved.
Wildlife belongs to everyone and not to the gunners alone. Although most people do not shoot, they seem to forgive shooting for sport because they know little or nothing about it. The only answer, then, in to bring the truth about sports shooting to the great majority of people.
Now, it is time to realize that animals have the same right to live as we do and that there is nothing fair or right about a person with a gun shooting the harmless and beautiful creatures. The gunner like to describe what they do as character building, but we know that to wound an animal and watch it go through the agony of dying can make nobody happy. if, as they would have you believe, gun - carrying and killing improve human character then perhaps, we should encourage wars.
8. According to the text, how many reasons cause the wildlife to disappear?
A. 1. B. 2. C. 3. D. 4
9. Why do most people not seem to be against hunting?
A. They have little knowledge of it.
B. It helps to build human character.
C. It is too costly to stop killing wildlife.
D. They want to keep wildlife under control.
10. What does the underlined word “agony” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A. Form. B. Condition. C. Pain. D. Sadness.
11. What can be inferred from the text?
A. The author seems to blame the majority of people.
B. The author seems to worry about the existence of wildlife.
C. The author seems to be in favor of wars.
D. The author seems to be in support of character building.

【10题详解】
词句猜测题。由最后一段中的“The gunners like to describe what they do as character-building, but we know that to wound an animal and watch it go through the agony of mortality can make nobody happy.”(枪手们喜欢描述他们的性格塑造,但我们知道,伤害动物,看着它经历死亡的agony,不会让任何人感到高兴。),结合“to wound an animal”和“watch it go through the agony of mortality”可知,伤害动物,动物要死亡,被伤害的将死的动物肯定很痛苦,agony在此处意为“pain(痛苦)”。故选C。

Like all big cities, Paris has a traffic problem: lots of cars, lots of traffic jams and lots of pollution from exhaust fumes (废气). So the city began a scheme (计划) to improve the situation.
Under the Velib project ('Velib' comes from vélo liberté, or 'bicycle freedom') people can take a bicycle, use it for as long as they want, and then leave it at the same or another bicycle station. The first half-hour on the bike is free, but if you don't return it after 30 minutes, you have to pay. But it's only €1 a day or €29 a year! The bicycles are heavy (25 kg), and they are all grey and have baskets. There are about 20,000 of them in the city, and around 1,450 bicycle stations. So there are a lot more Velib stations than the 298 subway stations!
Paris is not the first city to have a project like this. But not everybody thinks it's a great idea. One Parisian said, "These bicycles are only for short journeys. If people want to travel across the city, they won't use a bicycle — they'll still use their cars."
A city spokesman said, 'The bicycle project won't solve all our traffic problems, of course. But it might help reduce air pollution. Traffic, together with factory fumes, is a big problem. There aren't any simple answers to traffic problems and pollution in cities. But unless we do something now, there will be more traffic jams and temperatures will continue to rise, so the problems in our environment will get worse. The bikes might help people to lead a healthier life, too.'
12. What can we learn about the Velib scheme?
A. Its bikes have no baskets. B. Its bikes are light and colorful.
C. It aims to make traveling easier. D. It owns more stations than the subway.
13. If you use a Velib for 1 hour, you should pay _______.
A. €l B. €30 C. €29 D. no money
14. Why do some people disagree with the Velib scheme?
A. The cost is rather high.
B. It's hard to find a Velib station.
C. It's not suitable for a long journey.
D. The distance between two Velib stations is long.
15. What's the city spokesman's attitude towards the bicycle scheme?
A. Doubtful. B. Positive.
C. Uncaring. D. Worried.
【答案】12. D 13. A 14. C 15. B

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填人空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
What Is Emotional Eating?
Emotional eating is when people use food as a way to deal with feelings instead of satisfying hunger.____16____ Have you ever finished a whole bag of chips out of boredom or downed cookie after cookie while preparing for a big test? But when done a lot — especially without realizing it — emotional eating can affect weight, health, and overall well-being.
Not many of us make the connection between eating and our feelings. ____17____
One of the biggest myths about emotional eating is that it’s caused by negative feelings. Yes, people often turn to food when they’re stressed out, lonely, sad, anxious, or bored. But emotional eating can be linked to positive feelings too, like the romance of sharing dessert on Valentine’s Day or the celebration of a holiday feast. Sometimes emotional eating is tied to major life events, like a death or a divorce. ____18____
Emotional eating patterns can be learned: A child who is given candy after a big achievement may grow up using candy as a reward for a job well done. ____19____ It’s not easy to “unlearn” patterns of emotional eating. But it is possible. And it starts with an awareness of what’s going on.
We’re all emotional eaters to a degree. But for some people emotional eating can be a real problem, causing serious weight gain or other problems. The trouble with emotional eating is that once the pleasure of eating is gone, the feelings that cause it remain. ____20____ That’s why it helps to know the difference between physical hunger and emotional hunger.
Next time you reach for a snack, wait and think about which type of hunger is driving it.
A. Believe it or not, we’ve all been there.
B. If a crying boy gets some cookies, he may link cookies with comfort.
C. One study found that people who eat food like pizza become happy afterwards.
D. And you often may feel worse about eating the amount or type of food you like.
E. Understanding what drives emotional eating can help people take steps to change it.
F. Boys seem to prefer hot, homemade comfort meals, while girls go for chocolate and ice cream.
G. More often, though, it’s the countless little daily stresses (压力) that cause someone to seek comfort in food.
【答案】16. A 17. E 18. G 19. B 20. D

B
Scientists have recently discovered that animals that live in groups, such as elephants, foxes, and wolves, are more likely to follow rules.
A. they have to follow natural rules B. they are afraid of staying alone
C. they cannot find food by themselves D. living alone would make their lives harder
5. According to Bekoff, animals try their best to do what’s right because ________.
A. it feels good to be kind B. animals are friendly by nature
C. they have learned to do so for a long time D. they want their owners to like them
C
B It helps to build human character.
D
A The cost is rather high.
B. It's hard to find a Velib station.
C. It's not suitable for a long journey.
D. The distance between two Velib stations is long.
15. What's the city spokesman's attitude towards the bicycle scheme?
A. Doubtful. B. Positive.
C Uncaring. D. Worried.
