When you hear the word hero, you may think of someone like Mahatma Gandhi or Nelson Mandela. But there are also “everyday” heroes—they may not be well-known to the public, but they do what they can to help improve people’s lives as well. Everyday heroes are normal people who are working to make the world a better place. Among them is Robert Lee.
Lee grew up in New York City. As his family was not rich, he learned from a young age the importance of avoiding the waste of food. When in college, he was part of a student group that gave out leftover (剩余的) food to homeless people. This experience made him realize how serious the problem of food wastage actually was.
After he left university, Lee and a friend set up an organization called Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC). Its purpose is to collect unsold food from restaurants and send it for free to shelters (收容所) and food kitchens. Volunteers pick up the food from restaurants around the city and hand it out to those in need.
RLC operates simply. Using an app developed by Lee’s team, restaurants report how much leftover food they have each day. Then volunteers are sent to fetch it. The distance is usually short, so volunteers can just do their deliveries (递送) by walking from the restaurants to the shelters. Lee believes this is a quick way of delivery.
So far, Lee and his team have successfully saved over 150000 kilograms of food, serving almost 300000 meals to people who need them. Lee has shown that a small action can help people around us greatly. It may have a greater influence than we imagine. When Lee is asked what his next plan is, he says there’s still a lot to do. It’s just the beginning. With more restaurants, who knows how much more we can do.
31. What is the best title of this passage?

D. It’s an organization that was set up by Lee and his friend to help people get food for free.
33. Who may mostly get the help from the Rescuing Leftover Cuisine?
A. Shelters. B. Restaurants. C. Deliverers. D. Volunteers.
34. According to the passage, what did Robert Lee do after he graduated from the university?
① set up RLC ②develop an app ③open a restaurant ④ save a lot of food ⑤ deliver food in person

Blue light blocking glasses have been popular over the past few years with the idea that they protect our eyes from the use of screens. But a new study shows they might not be as good for our eye health as expected.
Researchers analyzed (分析) the information from 17 tests and reported the results. They found that the glasses filtering (过滤) out blue light on the market probably make no difference to eye strain (眼疲劳) or sleep quality.
“We found there may be no short-term advantages in using blue light filtering lenses (镜片) to reduce eye strain that is connected with computer use,” said Laura Downie, a main member of the study. “It is also unclear whether these lenses affect vision quality and sleep-related results, and no conclusions could be drawn about any possible effects on retinal (视网膜) health in the longer term,” she added. “People should understand these findings when deciding whether to get these glasses.”
The tests are different in size and length. The number of the people taking part in a test could be from as few as 5 to as many as 156. Some of the tests were finished in one day, while others even lasted five weeks. And the researchers said further research in more groups of people is needed to better learn about any other possible effects.
Dr. Sumeer Singh, a researcher in the Downie Lab, said more studies should be done to find out whether the results change when different groups of people use different types of lenses, advising for future research.
Blue light from computer screens and smartphones does influence our eyes, and it can cause sleeping problems. But instead of paying for special glasses, experts advise taking screen breaks.
41. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. The eyes. B. The researchers.
C. Blue light blocking glasses. D. Different groups of people.
42. From the text, we can learn blue light blocking glasses ________.

C. make people see things far away clearly D. may have no clear advantage in the short term
43. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?
A. The researchers did 8 tests.
B. The tests remained the same in length.
C. There were 156 people taking part in the tests in total.
D. Further research on the glasses is needed to learn more.
44. According to the last paragraph, the experts suggest ________.
A. using screens less. B. taking screen breaks.
C. changing glasses often. D. buying special glasses.
45. Which can be the best title for the text?
A. Can screen time influence our eye health? B. How can we avoid the harm of blue light?
C. Where does blue light come from? D. May blue light blocking glasses not actually help?

A. Homeless People. B. Heroes in the World.

A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ②③⑤ D. ②④⑤
35. Which of the following is true?
A. Robert doesn’t know what he can do next year.
B. Restaurants may have more leftover food in the future.
C. The problem of food wastage has been solved by Robert and his team.
