They took matters into their own hands and started a GoFundMe campaign. A longtime friend of the family was cofounder of a group named Praynksters, known for random acts of kindness. The friend decided to use their own group to help the family. The group came up with the creative idea to spread the word and invite families, friends, and strangers who wanted to help to take part in a donation activity. The event induced the enormous assistance from the local community. Clint and Amanda were moved as the crowd passed by and the donations poured in. The generous act of kindness gave the family a comforting, and optimistic feeling during a time when all hope seemed lost. Clint said that Amanda struggled with the idea of asking for help. She felt guilty and undeserving compared to others who are also struggling. She is still humbled by it all. C The World Health Organization (WHO) recently addressed loneliness as a pressing health threat and called for countries and organizations to make social connections a priority. Loneliness is a state of mind marked by feelings of isolation despite wanting social connections. So, people who are lonely usually experience the emotional pain of not being connected with others. Isolation, on the other hand, is voluntary. People who enjoy spending time by themselves continue to maintain positive social relationships that they can return to when they want connection. Social isolation impacts the health and well-being of all age groups across the world. According to the WHO, one in four old people experience social isolation. Among adolescents, between 5 and 15 percent experience loneliness, but the numbers are likely to be underestimations, said the organization. In terms of teenagers, social disconnection can lead to poorer education outcomes since young people who have experienced loneliness in high school are more likely to drop out of university. Lack of social connection carries a risk of early death equivalent (与……相等的) to other better-known risk factors such as smoking, obesity and air pollution, or potentially even greater. Loneliness has a far-reaching impact comparable to smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day, according to a 2017 study. Previous studies have shown that loneliness has been linked to anxiety and depression and can increase the risk of heart disease by 30 percent. A 2015 study looked at the immune systems of its participants who were identified as lonely. It showed that they tend to have more inflammation (炎症) and less immunity, which can be a result of feeling stressed due to loneliness. To tackle this crisis, the WHO launched the Commission on Social Connection, which held its first leadership meeting from Dec.6 to 8 to outline solutions to build social connections at scale. 8. What do we know about people experiencing loneliness from the passage? A They prefer isolation over social interaction. B. They feel lacking in social connection. C. They feel other people isolate them on purpose. D. They struggle to maintain social relationships. 9. How does loneliness affect people of different ages according to WHO? A. It is harder for older people to get rid of it. B. Teenagers are most influenced by it. C. The effects of it on adults are often underestimated. D. People can suffer from it regardless of their age. 10. How does the author explain the impact of loneliness on health? A. By quoting lonely people. B. By asking the readers some questions. C. By citing previous studies. D. By comparing it with other diseases. 11. What is the author’s purpose in writing this article? A. To raise awareness about loneliness. B. To give advice on how to prevent social isolation. C. To stress the need for mental health evaluations. D. To warn people of diseases related to loneliness. D The UK government has promised to cut the country's greenhouse gas emissions (排放) by at least 68% by 2030 compared with 1990 levels, marking a significant increase from its current goal. The new goal comes nine days ahead of the UK hosting a“climate action summit (峰会)”to encourage other countries to declare tougher climate plans, known as Nationally Deter-mined Contributions (NDCs), under the Paris Agreement. Current NDCs will raise temperatures by 3℃. And stronger plans are needed to meet the Paris deal's goal of limiting global warming to 1. 5℃. "This is the most significant NDCs announcement so far from any major economy," said Richard Black at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit, a UK-based think tank, in a statement. The new goal is exactly in line with what the government's official climate adviser, the Climate Change Committee, called for in a letter published earlier today. The group said 68% would be "“world-leading" compared with existing plans of governments. The UK had previously promised a 53% cut in emissions as part of a joint (共同的) effort with the rest of the European Union, but the UK is determined to produce a new NDCs. Separately, the UK had also promised a 57% cut by 2032 domestically. It is clear that far more action will be needed if the UK is to meet the new goal. The government's own analysis last week showed that recent major methods, such as banning newoil-fueled car sales by 2030,had failed to do enough to put the UK on track even for the old goal of 57% by 2032. The new goal obviously widens that gap further. 12. Why did the UK declare its new goal before “climate action summit”? A. To show its former plans are based on facts. B. To blame other countries for their low goals. C. To call on other countries to take bigger steps. D. To take the lead in controlling greenhouse gas emissions. 13. What is the UK’s new goal for reducing emissions? A. 15%. B. 68%. C. 57%. D. 53%. 14. What's the author s attitude to the UK's new goal? A. Disapproval. B. Doubtful. C. Unconcerned. D. Subjective. 15. What can be the best title for the text? A. A new goal will be put forward on“climate action summit" B. UK came up with a common goal under the Paris Agreement C. UK's recent major policies are far from its predetermined goal D. UK sets an ambitious climate goal of 68% emissions cut by 2030 第二节(共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。 The latest assessments of the health effects of coffee and caffeine (咖啡因), its main active ingredient, are comforting indeed. ___16___ They include Parkinson’s disease, heart disease, depression and all sorts of cancers. ___17___ They showed consuming four or five eight-ounce cups of coffee a day has been associated with reduced death rates. I was at the departure gates of the airport, reading a cartoon book to pass the time while waiting for my parents to check in. A sea of people filled the airport and loud chatter echoed (回响) throughout the vast terminal (航站楼) halls. People were coming in and out of countless doors. The cartoon shop caught my eye, for it was filled with cartoon figurines (小雕像). I caught sight of a new figurine from my favourite cartoon, “One Piece” it was an action figurine of my favourite character, Luffy! My jaw dropped to the floor and my eyes brightened like diamonds. Without thinking twice, I ran towards the store. Holding the action figurine carefully in my hands, I imagined the scenes I could come up with using my action figurines at home. Filled with excitement, I hugged the toy and jumped for joy. Unfortunately, I did not have any money on me. Without doubt, I knew I had to share this newfound discovery with my parents! After returning the action figurine to its shelf, I darted (飞奔) out of the store, retracing my steps back to where I had left my parents. When I reached the location where I had last seen them, I realised that they were nowhere to be found. I tried to look for the terminal departure gate my parents were supposed to be waiting at, but the gates all looked the same. As I stood rooted to the ground, my excitement started to die down. Anxiety enveloped me and my heart started pounding in my chest. Tears rolled down my hot cheeks like a waterfall as I blamed myself. Why did I have to get distracted and leave my parents without informing them? There were thousands of people at the airport! It would be impossible to find them! Regretting my actions, I blamed myself silently. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 Suddenly, my mother’s advice echoed in my mind: “If you are ever lost, don’t panic! C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇应用文。介绍了几个为跑步者规划路线,避开繁忙地方的app。 【1题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章 Strava 部分“Just put in whether you’re running or cycling, how far you’d like to go and whether you’re keen to avoid hills, the app will then suggest a number of routes near you, based on where other runners have been.(只需输入您是跑步还是骑自行车,您想走多远以及您是否热衷于避开山丘,该应用程序就会根据其他跑步者去过的地方建议您附近的一些路线。)”可知,Strava的特别之处在于它可以规划自行车路线,比较其它三款Apps,都中没有为骑行者规划路线的功能。故选C项。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章 Map my run 部分中的“Map my run gives runners the option to plan their own route, or the ability to search through popular running routes near you, which is even more helpful for beginners.(Map My Run为跑步者提供了规划自己路线的选项,或者搜索您附近的热门跑步路线的能力,这对初学者更有帮助。)”可知,Map my run是初学者规划自己路线的最佳选择。故选A项。 【3题详解】 推理判断题。根据首段中的“Whether you are a beginner or already a regular runner, these apps will come in handy for planning routes that avoid busy places on your next run.(无论您是初学者还是已经是常规跑步者,这些应用程序都可以派上用场,以规划路线,避开下次跑步的繁忙地方。)”可知,本文的目的是介绍几款帮助跑步者规划路线的app,以避免下次跑步时遇到繁忙的地方。故选C项。 B One day, Amanda was diagnosed (诊断) with cancer of an early stage. A. They prefer isolation over social interaction. 【答案】8. B 9. D 10. C 11. The government's own analysis last week showed that recent major methods such as banning newoil-fueled car sales by 2030,had failed to do enough to put the UK on track even for the old goal of 57% by 2032. A Disapproval. B. Doubtful. C. Unconcerned. D. Subjective. 15. What can be the best title for the text? A. A new goal will be put forward on“climate action summit" B. UK came up with a common goal under the Paris Agreement C. UK's recent major policies are far from its predetermined goal D. UK sets an ambitious climate goal of 68% emissions cut by 2030 【答案】12. C 13. B 14. B 15. Stay calm, and ask for help!” _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A few minutes later, my parents, extremely breathless, appeared at the information counter. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 Suddenly, my mother’s advice echoed in my mind: “If you are ever lost, don’t panic! Stay calm, and ask for help!” Now I got into this mess, so I must get myself out of it! I wiped away my tears and looked for the signs which could lead me to the information counter. Following the signs, I reached the information counter. I nervously asked the lovely staff to help me find my parents. The lady reassured me with a kind smile, before beginning her announcement into the speaker, “Attention, there’s a missing child at the information counter at Terminal D...” A few minutes later, my parents, extremely breathless, appeared at the information counter. My face lit up as soon as I saw them. “Mum! Dad!” I called out. I ran as fast as my little legs could carry me and jumped into my mother’s welcoming arms. With tears streaming down her face, my mother praised me for staying calm. Excitedly, I filled my parents in on my little adventure, from realising I had gotten lost to finally reuniting with them. After listening to my tale, they enveloped me in a warm hug. 词汇激活 行为类 ①惹麻烦:get into mess/get into trouble ②意识到:realise/be aware of ③到达:reach/arrive 情绪类 ①紧张:nervously/concernedly ②安慰:reassure/comfort/ 【点睛】[高分句型1] Following the signs, I reached the information counter.
