W:Those are healthy things you have in your basket—fresh cabbage, fresh tomatoes ... oh, and fresh bacon. That's the only thing that might not be good for you.
M:Hey, sis, we're not children any more. You don't need to look after me like you did in my childhood. Even wives don't worry so much over their husbands.
W:Well, if we want to reach the age of our grandparents', we need to stay healthy. When I queue at the checkout behind some people, I am amazed at the unhealthy things they have in their baskets. No wonder they are overweight, unfit and always feeling ill.
M:I think you have to keep a balance. I try to buy mostly healthy things, but I don't get stressed if I sometimes feel like something less healthy, like the bacon. If I don't feel cheerful, sometimes I have a bar of chocolate.

M:Mom, can we get a dog?
W:Dogs need a lot of attention, Jeffrey. Do you think you can handle that kind of responsibility? It's harder than you think.
M:Of course I can. I'll take it for walks every day, and clean up after it.
W:Do you know what kind of dog you want?
M:Yes, I've been looking at some pictures on the Internet. This one with the long golden hair is named Lion.
W:He's very cute, but we don't have enough room for a dog that big. Those dogs need space to run around, and we live in an apartment. I think we should get a small one.
M:OK, then what about this one? My friend has one like this, and everyone likes it.
W:Those kinds of dogs always have health problems. Plus, they bark a lot. We don't want to annoy our neighbors.
M:So what do you suggest?
W:First, we aren't getting one from a pet store. They are too expensive. I know a place that saves dogs and gives them away for free.

Text 10
As a young child, I always enjoyed physical challenges more than mental ones. I liked to run and build swings. At that stage I hadn't yet learned to climb or swim, but that is something I would also have loved to do. One day we had a physical education class at school. We did the long jump and handstands, but it was when I had to do a forward roll that disaster struck. Somehow, I twisted my neck in an extremely painful way. I screamed loudly and the teachers were very concerned. An ambulance was called and I was taken to hospital. The doctors fitted me with a collar and I was told to do no exercise and stay away from school for eight weeks. At first, I was very bored. Having to keep still all day was no fun. So I started to read. I looked at books on the shelf at home. I wasn't interested in love stories—I avoided those—but crime and adventure did appeal. From those eight weeks I developed a lifelong love of reading. When my collar was removed, the doctors told me not to exercise for another four weeks. Instead of being disappointed, I was happy to devote more time to my new love—reading.

I used to be the most determined resolutionmaker. Even as a child, I was always goalcentered and loved the feeling of accomplishing things, and every January 1st, I would sit down and write out my resolutions (目标) for the upcoming year. And what resolutions they were! I always picked big goals, like: In the New Year, I will lose 50 pounds! And run a marathon! And study scripture (圣经) every day!
The problem? I'd start out strong, but by February or March, I'd be out of willpower and I'd slide quietly back into my old habits. Every winter, I'd feel guilty and ashamed, looking back at all of the amazing things ... I think one of my biggest problems with New Years resolutions was wanting to “dream big” but not having the skills and ability to do those things.
Now I take the opposite approach I'm all about the little goals. First, little goals are easy to set. Instead of saying I'm going to run a marathon, I've decided I'm going to run 20 minutes three days a week. Second, little goals are easier to accomplish. Every time I check one of my mini goals off my list, I feel a burst of pride and accomplishment. It's a great feeling, and I don't have to wait until the end of the year to enjoy it!
The other great thing about making small goals instead of resolutions is that you can build small goals on top of each other, adding the achievements together. For instance, recently I decided to make sure I ate five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. After a few months, this became a solid habit.
篇章导读:本文是一篇记叙文。“我”从儿时起就开始在每年的1月1日写下新年愿望,但定下的愿望太大,没有能够完成,于是就改为设定小目标,还讲述了设定小目标的好处。

When I first catch sight of Greta Thunberg, it is eight in the morning, and a small crowd has already gathered. It is a Friday, her day of protest, and the 16yearold is standing outside the parliament (议会) building, next to a sign saying “School strike for climate” in Swedish.
This is the 26th week of her protest, which has taken place every Friday since school started last August. Her goal is to bring Sweden in line with the 2016 Paris Agreement, which promises to limit global warming to below 2 ℃, compared with preindustrial levels.
Over the past six months, Greta has rocketed to a level of fame and influence that pretty much nobody, including herself, expected. Her protest was quickly highlighted by the media. Then came a TED talk and an invitation to address last December's UN climate talks in Poland.
While Greta may seem an unlikely climate activist, it was not entirely accidental that she became one. Like many children, Greta watched educational films about the melting Arctic and the fate of the polar bears and the marine mammals bloated (肿胀) with plastic. But unlike other children, she couldn't let them go. “I became very affected. I began thinking about it all the time.” said Greta.
Greta began researching climate change and has been staying on the topic for six years. She has stopped eating meat and buying anything that isn't necessary. In 2015, Greta stopped flying on airplanes, and a year later, her mother followed her example, giving up an international performing career. The family has started growing their own vegetables on his own garden outside the city. To meet me in central Stockholm, Greta and her father rode their bikes for about half an hour, although the family has an electric car that they use only when necessary.

A.She was expected to be famous.
B.She was invited to the TED talk.

答案:C 细节理解题。根据第四段最后一句可知,Greta深受影响并且开始一直思考气候变化问题。由此可知, Greta非常关注气候变化,因此投身于气候活动。故选C。

Many people say that looking back is meaningless because it can neither change the past nor bring it back to life, but I disagree as I enjoy the sense of nostalgia (怀旧感), which can remind me of how life used to be when I was younger. Don't get me wrong, however. I'm not one of those who love to talk ad__nauseam about “the good old days”.
As we know, there are moments when the past springs into the present. It's often a smell that will remind me of a particular place or person. A perfume, the scent of a flower, baking bread, bonfires ... they all create an instant picture. For me it is the smell of a freshly painted room. We moved so many times when I was younger and each time the first thing my parents would do is decorate our bedrooms. The windows would be kept open to get rid of the smell of the paint but it would always linger on (留存) for days. Even today it fills me with a sense of new beginnings.
Those memories are fleeting (飞逝). But when I visit the seaside resort where we used to spend many of our family holidays, I can replay entire days in my head. I can vividly remember the weather, the salty smell of the sea, our dogs playing in the water, an ice cream and that feeling of exhaustion after a day in the fresh air.
Although having many photos of those days, I rarely look at them as I prefer to allow my memory to create the pictures. Today we can so easily capture (捕捉) the present with phones and cameras, upload the images and share that moment with our friends online. But, for me, that somehow takes away the unique connection.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a hot summer day. My dad and I were getting ready to go out for a ride on the boat. That's when the phone call came, the call that made the bright, beautiful day a cold, dark, gloomy one.
I had just put on my suit, shorts, and tank top, and packed my bag with sunscreen and everything else I would need for that day. I ran into my parents' room to find dad. When I saw him on the phone, he was crying. I'd never seen my dad cry before. What possibly could have happened?
“Max, I'm so sorry,” I heard him say. That's when it hit me. I knew that Suzie had died.
Max has been my dad's best friend for years. Suzie, his daughter, had a rare disease that mainly affected her body. Her brain was OK. She knew what was going on; she knew that she had problems and was different from other kids. Once she told her dad that she wished she could die and be born in a different body. Yet although she couldn't live a normal life, she was still happy.
When Suzie and I were little, we spent quite a bit of time together. As we grew up, we grew apart. She lived in New York, and I lived in Midwest. When Suzie was ten, she had to live in hospital. I sent her a Beanie Baby and she sent one back to me. About eight months before she died, Max gave us her number at the hospital and we talked at least twice a week until the end. Suzie was always so excited to talk to us and wanted to know every detail about my life. She wanted to know everything I did and everything I ate. In a way, she lived through me.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;

[精彩范文]
After we found about her death, we made our plans to go to New York for the funeral. When she was alive, I had bought another Beanie Baby but never had the chance to send it to her, so I took it with me, hoping that I could put it in her casket. When I was on the plane, I just couldn't help thinking about the time we had spent together.
Her funeral was very different from any funeral I'd ever been to. I remembered crying so hard, I felt weak. I thought about the talks we had when she was in hospital. She was always curious about my life and optimistic about everything she faced though she had a rare disease. I recalled her words of having a different body and I absolutely knew she would do better than I could. I now know that I must never take anything for granted, especially my health and the gift of life.

Having to keep still all day was no fun. So I started to read. I looked at books on the shelf at home. I wasn't interested in love stories. I avoided those, but crime and adventure did appeal from those eight weeks, I developed a lifelong G. G. Love of reading.
